Channel 10 Climate Specialist, Meteorologist, and Weather Presenter Josh Holt joins the podcast for this exciting two-part episode. Josh helps break down the climate drivers across Australia, including ENSO, IOD, SAM, Rossby Waves, the MJO and how they affect the mainland.
Fans of David Bowie will know of his deep love of jazz. Though he never ventured into the genre in a literal sense, the inspiration is clear when you listen to his impressive body of work. The Metropolitan Jazz Octet, in partnership with Paul Marinaro, is reimagining some of Bowie's classics with a new show titled “The Bowie Project.” Paul and MJO Co-founder Jim Gailloreto join Reset to discuss their love of the psychedelic space explorer, adapting Bowie's work in a new medium, and how the MJO came to be.
In this episode we'll look at the will ahead, which will be mainly dry with changeable skies. We'll then take a look at our latest winter forecast, including the impacts of ENSO, the PDO, and the MJO.
Speaking at the Montana Grain Growers Association annual meeting. Always great to get up to Montana! Also, focusing on the MJO pattern for the last 3 weeks of December and what it could possibly mean.
I address the quiet pattern now, and a potential return to active weather late this month with a possible MJO pulse. Also, I talk about some things tied to El Niño that I think are VERY important in how we view the next several months.
The NAO, PNA, MJO, etc. You've probably heard of these buzzwords thrown around on social media, and especially if you're someone who follows the weather closely. These are what we refer to as "teleconnections" and they basically drive our patterns over a span of months. In this episode, we bring WeatherWorks Long Range expert, Kyle Leahy, to talk all about how we use teleconnections and why they're so important. Thanks for listening!

New around here? Welcome! Woops! I just tripped myself trying to curtsy for you in my schlepping boots (seriously, the html keeps kicking out my left arrow, curtsy, right arrow). No problem. I'm more flaming Bible teacher than Southern belle anyway, hence the “evangelista” moniker. Yes, I made up a word, but it's entirely applicable, since by definition an evangelist simply shares the good news of the Gospel from his own point of view. And honey I'm no “him,” but I always have a point of view, so I'm your evangelistaaaah. Speaking of good news, isn't holiness more domestic than cosmic (right?) — in the trenches of dirty bathrooms, fighting children, irritable spouses, the struggle to stop raging or overeating, crazy schedules, and overwhelming workloads? We're all sweating and dirty with the effort to love and lift all He's given to us (John 17) – those people, duties, callings, and longings that break our hearts and make them sing, sometimes at the same time. But most times, we need to be loved and lifted ourselves. So my Bible study media resources are created with you in mind, always with an emphasis on healing and rest. Bites of spinach that taste like cake, to help you make a space in your busy heart and schedule for God to love and lift you all the all the way up into His great lap, where all you've been given is loved and lifted too. My message is simple: Jesus literally loves you to death; let Him. I found that impossible once, myself – due to a deep, raw father wound – but I can't wait to show you what the Lord taught me in the Scriptures in the times I was hurting, guilty, enraged, lonely, discouraged, and exhausted. How about we get started? Take a listen, below, and let's find out where God wants to begin loving and lifting you through the Scriptures! Thank you to my newest Friends of the Show, Deborah B; Robin D; Carrie JH; Joanna C*; Silvia F; Dorothy G; Clara G; Jane M; Kim R; Christine Y; Genevieve M; Jamie R*; Marcie C; Jean A; MJO; Monica M; Gabriela M; Jill S; Kate H; Mary W; Michele Van W; and Norma C, for loving and lifting me! Thor: Love and Thunder is the much anticipated MCU film by Taika Waititi. With themes of love, heartbreak, and superiority, the story brings to life Gorr the God Butcher, a scorned father who wants to kill all the gods. When it seems that Thor might be next on the list, the God of Thunder must team up with Valkyrie and a surprisingly powerful Dr. Jane Foster, now wielding Mjölnir as the Mighty Thor. Jay and Josh give a review of the blockbuster of the summer and share all the news updates on Superhero Suite.
A quiet look to the tropics as we begin the week ahead - at least for the Atlantic Basin with suppressed phases of the MJO and CCKW moving through, helping to keep convection quite minimal from the coast of Africa all the way across the Caribbean and into the Gulf of Mexico. The east Pacific has a couple of areas of potential development well off the coast of Mexico and both features will remain offshore and move away from the Mexican coastline in the coming days. Thanks for listening, have a great week ahead!
The Madden–Julian Oscillation isn't a term commonly heard to most people, but to forecasters, it can be everything. Listen as Kailey and Dion use the MJO to forecast the coming month's temperatures and rainfall around North America. Our special guest speaker, Larry Heitkemper, is also here with us this week to analyze the market impacts of our meteorologists' forecasts!
Adam and Tyler are back to discuss: the SC Final (Dobby, Seguin/Benn, Stammer); NHL Award winners/Adam's Mid-Season winners; Staal for MJo trade; hirings (Boughner, Malholtra, Armstrong); Tyler plays a round of Career Laundry. Enjoy?
When heavy rain falls over the Indian Ocean, Southeast Asia and the eastern Pacific Ocean temperatures in California's Central Valley will reach 100 F (38 C) in 4 to 16 days, according to a collaborative research team from UC Davis, and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Climate Center in Busan, South Korea. Researchers, including UC Davis Department of Land, Air and Water Resources professor Richard Grotjahn, were able to link the heat waves to the phases of a large, traveling atmospheric circulation pattern called the Madden-Julian Oscillation, or MJO. In this episode, it takes MJO 14 tries to nail the intro and it's well worth your time listening to it. MORE IMPORTANTLY, he talks to The Guardian's Elle Hunt about her moving to London, Lorde, Jacinda, The Farming Show, and everything in between.
In this episode of the CLIMAS Southwest Climate Podcast, Mike Crimmins and Zack Guido talk about the last few months of weather in the Southwest, and how it doesn't quite look like we might have expected given borderline La Niña conditions. They also discuss the recent run of storms, and what this might mean for drought, as well as the decay of La Niña and what this might mean for the rest of the winter in the Southwest. They share their mix of optimism given the weak/decaying La Niña, and pessimism given how dry the Southwest can be even under normal conditions. They also dive into a discussion of other models that inform our perspective on regional weather and climate (PDO, MJO).
