This one happened fast. A week ago, a publicist reached out to ask if I'd possibly be interested in helping to promote a documentary about a guy (a white guy) who thinks he's supposed to bring together the native people of South and North America — whose combined teachings will then spread across the planet and save us all. My first impression was that this one sounded crazy, possibly racist, and not something I really want to spend time on. But the fact that the director had worked with Werner Herzog caught my attention. (I love me some Werner Herzog.) So I agreed to check out a screener, and last night, Anya and I sat down to watch at least the first few minutes — reluctantly. WTF?! We were hooked immediately, watched the whole thing in amazement, and this afternoon, less than 24 hours later, Gabe Polsky and I sat down to talk about his film. If it's playing anywhere near you, trust me, go see it. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll get a little confused and grossed out … but you will not — guaranteed — get bored.Intro music “Brightside of the Sun,” by Basin and Range. “I Saved the World Today,” by The Eurythmics. Outro: “Invocation (A Prophecy),” by Richard Bona.Follow the film on Instagram. If you buy from Amazon, my link is here. Fáilte ar ais chuig eagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo ar an 9ú lá de mí Dheireadh Fómhair, liomsa Lauren Ní Loingsigh. I 1981 tháinig sé amach go mbeadh sé 60 punt gach seachtain chun dul chuig an ollscoil an bhliain sin. I 1992 dúradh go raibh dhá imreoir san fhoireann Éireannach Sacar ag streachailt chun sáraigh na gortuithe agus iad ag fáil réidh dá gcluiche leis an Danmhairg. I 2005 tháinig sé amach go raibh an daonra san Aonach Urmhumhan ag méadú agus bhí siad ag labhairt faoi scoil nua a thógáil. Dúirt Paddy Heffernan go mbeadh Tyone áit mhaith chun scoil nua a thógáil de bharr tí nua a bheith ann. Dúirt sé leis na comhairleoir go raibh 600 tí nua á thógáil san áit agus bhí éileamh do scoil nua ann. I 2010 tháinig na Gardaí san Aonach Urmhumhan amach ag rá go mbeidís chun rud a dhéanamh dá mbeadh tine ealaíne ag daoine go mídhleathach ar Oíche Shamhna. Dúirt siad go mbeadh sé ciontach dá mbeadh tine ealaíne ag aon duine gan ceadúnas a bheith acu. Sin Kylie Minogue le Can't Get You Out Of My Head – an t-amhrán is mó ar an lá seo I 2001. Ag lean ar aghaidh le nuacht cheoil ar an lá seo I 1993 shroich Nirvana uimhir a haon sna cairteacha lena halbam In Utero agus bhí sé a tríú halbam agus a albam deireanach. Tháinig sé amach go raibh Kurt Cobain ar iarradh an teideal a bheith I Hate Myself And I Want To Die. I 1999 chan Eurythmics, George Michael, David Bowie, Robbie Williams agus Bono ag Netaid – imeacht a bhí ann chun airgead a bhailiú do bochtaineat timpeall an domhain. Agus ar deireadh breithlá daoine cáiliúla ar an lá seo rugadh Sharon Osbourne sa Bhreatain I 1952 agus rugadh aisteoir Chris O'Dowd in Éirinn ar an lá seo I 1979 agus seo chuid de na rudaí a rinne sé. Beidh mé ar ais libh amárach le heagrán nua de Ar An Lá Seo. Welcome back to another edition of Ar An Lá Seo on the 9th of October, with me Lauren Ní Loingsigh 1981: Exactly £60 a week is what the latest estitmated cost of keeping a student in university or other 3rd level college this year. 1992: The Irish Soccer team face 2 players struggling to overcome injuries in the lead up to their world cup match with Denmark 2005 - Nenagh was growing so fast that a new school was being talked about. The Town Manager, Paddy Heffernan said Tyone would be one area where a site for a new school should be considered due to the housing boom. Mr Heffernan told councillors that up to 600 new homes were being built in Tyone and there was a demand for a new Nenagh school 2010 - Gardai in Nenagh warned that action would be taken against any persons found in possession of illegal fireworks in the run-up to Halloween. Gardai in Nenagh have pointed out that it is now an offence for any person to possess a firework with the intent to sell or supply without a licence. That was Kylie Minogue with Can't Get You Out Of My Head – the biggest song on this day in 2001 Onto music news on this day In 1993 Nirvana entered the US album chart at No.1 with 'In Utero', their third and final studio album. Kurt Cobain had originally wanted to name the album 'I Hate Myself and I Want to Die.' 1999 Eurythmics, George Michael, David Bowie, Robbie Williams and Bono all appeared at 'Netaid' an event to raise money for global poverty. And finally celebrity birthdays on this day – Sharon Osbourne was born in the UK in 1952 and actor Chris O'Dowd was born in Ireland on this day in 1979 and this is some of the stuff he has done. I'll be back with you tomorrow with another edition of Ar An Lá Seo.

In this episode of Seeing Them Live, Charles and Doug welcome back Andy, a school teacher and avid live music fan, to share his an After Show Report on the 2025 Bonnaroo Music Festival. Despite carefully planning his trip with his friend Teddy and driving nine hours to the festival, Andy faced a series of unexpected challenges and adventures. The trip kicks off with a tense interaction with law enforcement when they are pulled over by a Kentucky State Trooper, escalating as a K-9 unit arrives. Fortunately, they are allowed to proceed to Bonnaroo without any legal troubles.Upon arrival, Andy and Teddy set up their elaborate campsite, which included modern amenities like a solar generator and 42-inch TV. The first night involved acclimatizing to the youthful crowd and loud electronic dance music that played until the early hours. Things took a dramatic turn when Teddy experienced a sudden medical emergency and had to leave, promising to return later to pick Andy up. Later, a severe storm brought torrential rains and flooding, leading to the cancellation of the entire festival due to infrastructural failure. Despite disappointment, Andy encountered numerous acts of kindness from fellow festival-goers and eventually managed to get back home safely, albeit with a vivid, unforgettable experience.BANDS: Dogs in a Pile, Eurythmics, Foster the People, Goose, Insane Clown Posse, King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Lemon Twigs, Luke Combs, Marcus King, Miranda Lambert, Parisi.VENUES: 2025 Bonnaroo Music Festival. Get ready for an unforgettable conversation with Shelly Clark, the powerhouse singer, dancer, and actress who helped shape the sound of 1970s R&B as a founding member of the chart-topping girl group Honey Cone.Born in Brooklyn and performing professionally by the age of six, Shelly Clark's career began on Broadway before she went on to tour with legends like Cab Calloway and work as an Ikette in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. But her real breakthrough came in 1968, when she co-founded Honey Cone with Edna Wright and Carolyn Willis. With Holland-Dozier-Holland behind them at the Hot Wax/Invictus label, Honey Cone shot to stardom. Their smash hit “Want Ads” hit No.1 on both the Billboard Pop and R&B charts in 1971 and sold over a million copies. Follow-up hits like “Stick-Up,” “One Monkey Don't Stop No Show,” and “The Day I Found Myself” cemented their place in music history. Honey Cone weren't just about catchy hooks — their lyrics spoke to female empowerment and independence, making them trailblazers in the girl-group era. After the group disbanded, Shelly turned down an offer to join The Supremes and instead found a new path in television, solo work, and later in her personal life. The multi award-winning singer songwriter Annie Lennox has been part of the musical landscape for almost 50 years, from her days in The Tourists, to the Eurythmics and then going solo. Now at the age of 70, Annie has brought out a book of photographs called Annie Lennox: Retrospective, and talks to Nuala McGovern about her life and career.President Trump has said that pregnant women should avoid paracetamol because of the risks of autism and that US doctors will soon be advised not to prescribe Tylenol, as paracetamol is known in the US, to pregnant women. However he didn't provide any scientific evidence for this. UK health officials have stressed that paracetamol remains the safest painkiller available to pregnant women, and Health Secretary Wes Streeting has told women to ignore Trump's comments. Nuala is joined by Dr Alex Tsompanidis, senior research associate at the Autism Research Centre at Cambridge University and the BBC's Health reporter, Jim Reed. It's a year since the death of Alice Webb, the first woman in the UK to die from complications after a liquid Brazilian butt lift, a non-surgical procedure injecting filler into the buttocks. You don't need to have any medical qualifications to carry out the procedure. We talk to Sasha Dean who had terrifying complications after a liquid BBL and to David Sines from the JCCP, which runs a voluntary regulator for practitioners. Are you guilty of ‘phubbing'? It's the process of snubbing the person you are with in person by looking at your phone. New research shows that these phone snubs can have a huge impact on relationships. Dr Claire Hart, Associate Professor of Psychology at the University of Southampton, tells us about her findings and Dr Kaitlyn Regehr, University College London and author of Smartphone Nation, discusses the impact parental phubbing can have on children.

Send us a textThis week on Third Eye Roll, Dr. Justine Lemos and Scarlett Trillia dive into a potent eclipse season packed with major transits: Venus struts into Leo, Mars slips into Libra, and the Sun and Mercury shift into Virgo—right in time for a partial solar eclipse in Uttara Phalguni. We unpack what all this means for love, breakups, contracts, and karmic audits. From tangled wigs and drag queen Venus vibes to Mars demanding couples counseling (or speed dating), the astro-weather has us questioning what's ending, what's sustainable, and what vows we're really bound to.Along the way, we honor the passing of Robert Redford, explore Virgo's filing-cabinet fashion sense, spin music picks from Eurythmics to Lauryn Hill, and share the Vedic myth of Ariaman, guardian of oaths—reminding us how broken contracts blind both heart and society.Expect astro insight, mythic storytelling, pop culture flair, and a lot of laughter as we navigate endings, beginnings, and the cosmic contracts that hold us together.Support the show

For the week ending August 27, 1983, the Billboard Hot 100 was loaded with some of the most iconic songs of the decade. At the top, The Police were wrapping up their legendary run with “Every Breath You Take” before yielding to a new wave of contenders. Hot on their heels, Eurythmics' synth-driven “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” was climbing fast, while Michael Sembello's “Maniac” was burning up the charts thanks to the Flashdance craze. The rest of the Top 10 offered a mix of pure 80s variety: Donna Summer's “She Works Hard for the Money”, Men at Work's “It's a Mistake”, and Taco's quirky “Puttin' on the Ritz” stood alongside classic rock staples like Stevie Nicks' “Stand Back” and Billy Joel's “Tell Her About It.” Further down the list, radio was buzzing with Lionel Richie, Culture Club, Duran Duran, Def Leppard, and Journey—all proving that pop, rock, R&B, and new wave were all thriving together. On this week's podcast, Rob and Dave will dive into the chart and each pick a personal favorite. The fun twist is in their contrasting styles: Dave leans into the big anthems and timeless pop moments, while Rob often digs a little deeper, spotlighting tracks that might not have hit No. 1 but still capture the spirit of the era. Together, they'll break down what makes these songs stand out—whether it's the infectious hooks, the MTV-ready videos, or the way the tracks still hold up decades later. By the end, listeners will get not only a countdown snapshot of late-summer '83, but also two very different perspectives on which hits truly defined that moment. Record Store Day 2025 is April 12th. For the most up-to-date news about all things RSD, including The List, visit RecordStoreDay.com) In the last installment of our month-long Record Store Day 2025 preview series, we meet the members of L.A. band, Wallows (Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters, and Cole Preston) in anticipation of their RSD First Release, the MORE EP (Atlantic Records). The trio share their backstory, how they came to work with producer John Congleton, and duet with Clairo. And 25 years after the band Harvey Danger released their sophomore LP, King James Version, Barsuk Records is releasing a deluxe two-album gatefold reissue as an RSD First Release, with new liner notes by singer and lyricist Sean Nelson, who joins us to unpack the emotional baggage behind the making of the album, and why their previous album's biggest hit ("Flagpole Sitta") became something of a mixed blessing. But first, Paul takes a moment to pay his respects to two of his musical heroes who left us this past week; bassist Dave Allen (Gang Of Four, Shriekback), and celebrated drummer Clem Burke (Blondie, Eurythmics, and more.) The Record Store Day Podcast is a weekly music chat show written, produced, engineered and hosted by Paul Myers, who also composed the theme music and selected interstitial music. Executive Producers (for Record Store Day) Michael Kurtz and Carrie Colliton. Please consider subscribing to our podcast wherever you get podcasts, and tell your friends, we're here every week and we love making new friends.
In this episode of the Behind The Song podcast, Janda explores the fascinating backstory behind Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' hit "Don't Come Around Here No More." Discover how a late-night argument between Stevie Nicks and Joe Walsh inspired the song, co-written by Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics, and take a dive down into the rabbit hole of controversy that its Alice In Wonderland-theme video caused when it was released in 1985.
