Det här är berättelsen om den skotska sångerskan med den stora rösten, som både provocerade och hyllades för sin androgyna image. December 1980, högt över Indiska oceanen. Nedsjunken i flygplansstolen sitter en förtvivlad sångerska från Skottland. Hennes korta frisyr är blonderad och kindbenen höga. Det som är mest framträdande just nu är dock dom mörka ringarna under ögonen.Annie är helt slutkörd, men tankarna som snurrar i hennes huvud hindrar henne från att somna. Trots att hon bara är 26 år gammal oroar hon sig för att hennes artistkarriär är över, innan den knappt hunnit ta fart. Turnén i Australien har varit en mardröm. Annie inser motvilligt att rockbandet The Tourist, som sjunger i, fullständigt har kollapsat.  Fastspänd i det trånga sätet, i den lilla kabinen, förstår Annie att hon behöver göra en radikal förändring. Innan hon hinner ångra sig vänder hon sig till sin pojkvän som sitter bredvid. Dave och Annie har varit ett passionerat kärlekspar i fyra år, lika länge som dom spelat musik ihop. 12 000 meter upp i luften förstår dock dom båda att det inte längre funkar. Dom är överens om att deras kemi är en kreativ urkraft som - om den får blomma fritt utan hinder - är ostoppbar. Men för att det ska bli möjligt, måste dom offra något. In January of 1983 Eurythmics released their second studio album. It became the record that broke them out on both sides of the pond. Let's talk Eurythmics, Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)!

Mike Gormley Presents...Doug Legacy! Doug Legacy is a musician and one of the founding members of the Zydeco Party Band. He has puppeteered background characters on Muppets Tonight and his band was featured as the house band for the show (with Legacy playing accordion). Doug is also known for The Bucket List (2007), Gilmore Girls (2000), and Muppets Tonight (1996). Doug wound up in Los Angeles in 1977 where he immediately won the Gong Show playing steel drums. He then went on to play them with Rod Stewart (a significant vocal influence on Doug), where he met Jimmy Z, playing great blues harp and tenor sax on this album. Jimmy Z went on to play with Jeff Beck and the Eurythmics. Doug had the honor to back up Paul McCartney on background vocals and accordion. He also sang for Brian Wilson, Todd Rundgren and Oingo Boingo. Oingo Boingo bassist John Avila plays on the first track of this album. Doug founded the Zydeco Party Band over 20 years ago and has released several albums. King Cake Party (1990) was produced by Jim Keltner and Freebo and had guest artists Ry Cooder and David Lyndley on it. It was released on Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe's label Demon in Europe and Japan. Doug also made an album with the Oingo Boingo band in 1996 called Doug and the Mystics “New Hat” released in Europe on Colosseum Records. Doug has worked on many projects with Van Dyke Parks as a musician and engineer. Van Dyke introduced Doug to Grant Geissman who plays great guitar on this project. Long-time friend and collaborator Gary Ferguson play solid drums and percussion. Gary has played for artists such as John Hiatt and Eddy Money. Dave Eastly has been the 1st chair bassist for the Zydeco Party Band for the last five years. He also leads his own big band and has been a multi-instrumentalist at Disneyland for over twenty years! https://zydecopartyband.com

Vor fast genau 40 Jahren gelang dem britischen Pop-Duo Eurythmics mit ihrem zweiten Studioalbum "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" der kommerzielle Durchbruch. Dave Stewart und Annie Lennox machen einiges mit, bis sie sich beruflich als Duo "Eurythmics" wiederfinden und mit melodiösem Synthie-Pop zu Weltstars werden. Zu Beginn ihrer Karriere mussten Dave Stewart und Annie Lennox einige herbe Enttäuschungen wegstecken. Sie waren verheiratet, haben sich in einer Kneipe kennengelernt und zunächst die Punk-orientierte Band "The Tourist" gegründet. Doch die internen Spannungen wurden immer schlimmer, sodass schon 1980 – nach nur drei Jahren – die Band wieder aufgelöst wurde. Und das ist der Punkt, an dem Lennox und Stewart buchstäblich am Scheideweg standen und sich auch als Liebespaar trennten – mit dem Entschluss, beruflich weiter zusammenarbeiten zu wollen. Anfang der Achtziger ließen sich die beiden dann scheiden und gründeten die Band "Eurythmics". Die unermüdliche Geduld zahlt sich aus. Nach fünf mühseligen Jahren sind die beiden plötzlich weltberühmt. Our guest for this episode of Sharing the Mic is Dr. Paul Sanho Kim, an associate professor at Old Dominion University. He directs the ODU Symphony Orchestra, teaches conducting and violin, and coordinates the strings area. He is the music director of the Orchestra of the Eastern Shore and the symphony orchestra conductor of the Czech Music Camp for Youth. Kim led performances with the Virginia Symphony, Roanoke Symphony, and university orchestras across the U.S. and China. He was the conductor for Eurythmics star Dave Stewart and his Rock Fabulous Orchestra. He was also the conductor and producer for the album Carl Roskott: Works for Violin, released by Centaur Records.Kim is the composer of nearly thirty original works. Where Darkness Meets Light, a multimedia composition for violin and cello, was performed at the Chrysler Museum of Art and the 2017 Glass Art Society Conference to critical acclaim, and a digital music album (with Kim on violin) is available on iTunes and CD Baby. His arrangements of Radiohead songs for string quintet Sybarite5 have been performed on NPR's Performance Today as well as at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center and have been released on Sybarite5's album Everything in Its Right Place. Clem talks about his formative years playing snare drum and later bass drum in The Bridgemen Drum & Bugle Corps, playing in rock bands as a teenager, the New York club scene in the 70s and joining Blondie in 1975. Blondie's recent sold-out tour and newly released archival box set, “Against The Odds.” John and Clem do a deep dive into Clem's signature drum parts on several Blondie tracks, as well as Clem's style, technique and influences. My guest on this episode is the absolute legend that is Gered Mankowitz - he is the photographer who created the enduring and defining image of the rock star as we know it today. Inspired to take up photography by the comedian Peter Sellers, Gered opened his first studio in 1963. Finding himself at the centre of Swinging London, he soon established himself as one of the most prominent music photographers on the scene. His portfolio showcases striking and beautiful photographs from the 1960s to the 2000s, encompassing the Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix , Small Faces, Marianne Faithfull, P.P. Arnold, Led Zeppelin, Eurythmics, Kate Bush, Oasis and many others. Check out his collection here. There are two links with Paul Weller.
