You know it. I know it. There is a lot of information out there when it comes to email marketing, list building and sales funnels. Everyone seems to be saying the same thing – which isn't surprising considering many online entrepreneurs learnt from the same couple of people or from people who learnt from those people and so on. There is an epidemic out there of misinformation which can make even the most astute business owner confused about what you “should” be doing when it comes to email marketing. There are a lot of well-meaning educators and course creators out there who, yes, some of which have had significant success. But many only understand the online course creation or membership world. They just don't understand how to translate these strategies into real life business. Or even online businesses that are selling things other than digital products. How could they? They haven't had the experience or education to know the difference. If you provide services digitally or in person or if you sell products in a physical store or online, the way you market your business and use email marketing specifically should be different than those online educators. And we need to understand that distinction. In this episode, I'm sharing some of the most common things those online gurus teach and how it is only part of the picture. Take this as your permission to think outside of the box of what everyone seems to be teaching and instead think about it through the lens about what you know about your industry, business and audience. Andy Crestodina Show Notes Andy Crestodina is a co-founder and CMO of Orbit Media, an award-winning 38-person digital agency in Chicago. Over the past 18 years, Andy’s provided guidance to 1000+ busi-nesses. He speaks at national marketing conferences, writes for big marketing blogs and hosts a little podcast. Andy has written hundreds of articles on content strategy, SEO, in-fluencer marketing, conversion and Analytics. Top 10 Online Marketing Experts, Forbes Top 50 Marketing Influencer, Entrepreneur Magazine Top 25 Content Marketers, Express Writers/Buzzsumo Top 10 Social Media Influencers, Social Media Explorer He is also the author of Content Chemistry: The Illustrated Hand-book for Content Marketing. Most passionate about I love the human side of being an entrepreneur, marketing, and business in general. So, I’m really excited about live events, especially since yesterday was our annual conference, called ContentJam, which is kind of a mini version of some of the other conferences that you and I know and love; maybe 1/10th the size of San Diego Social Media Marketing World. As a tactic, and as a marketing strategy, live events are great for us because the service we offer is web design, which is very high touch, lots of subtlety and nuance. You want to have face-to-face meetings with clients when possible. The sales process involves a lot of trust, so it’s good to meet with people face to face prior to beginning projects. Our focus has always been local; we’re in Chicago. So, live events have been a great strategy for us because it’s a chance to meet so many people and to build trust and awareness, as well as teach and be an educational program. So, for 8 years, we’ve had a monthly event. For 7 years, we have an annual conference. For the last 2 years, we’ve added a quarterly event, so it works really well as a demand gen approach. It’s not super fast, but it’s very durable and powerful in the long run. Andy’s best advice about approaching customers Well, listening and empathy are the two greatest skills. I think that is why we drive business, because we are empathetic and understanding, and we care deeply about the experience that these customers have, even before they are customers, where they ware, what they’re struggling with, their frustrations, their triggers, their hopes. What sends that person to Google to search? In other words, what are they looking for? When they land on a page, what are their top questions? And in what order are those questions prioritized? What evidence would make them trust that our answers are legitimate? So, web design and digital marketing are tests of empathy and the marketer who best understands the customer is best suited to build pages that attract those visitors and use language that helps those visitors. We are the answerers, we are the providers of clarity, we’re the givers of hope, we’re helping these people solve some problem in their lives, sometimes just through information and content and articles, or videos, or events or whatever; the format. And other times through a service which creates a business transaction but we do so with the goal of helping them first; if we do a good job of that, everything seems to work out. Biggest failure with a customer I’m sensitive to this; I’m open about it, it’s obvious, and I get a lot of feedback, so this is ongoing. We are a web design company. To be relevant for that and to attract traffic, leads, and demand, we talked about digital marketing because we wanted to be relevant to people who need web design. If we’d just talked about web design, probably the only people who listened would be web designers. But after 10 years of publishing and teaching so many things about digital marketing, there has grown this gap between what people want from us and what we do as a service. I’m in a strange position because you could easily say my biggest failure is not helping my clients more,

"The quality of our sex life is a direct reflection of our internal health."-Bob Schwenkler On this week's podcast, trained life coaches and founders of Sex the Podcast, Natalie Vartanian and Bob Schwenkler, join me to talk about relationships, sex, and wellness. Since joining forces as a power couple in 2015, Natalie and Bob have been the secret sexual weapon for successful men from all walks of life. They’ve helped many people from former Army Sniper Instructors, Online Marketing Experts, to Corporate Airline Pilots from across 3 continents unlock the next level of joy and confidence in their sex lives and relationships. Meeting someone new and beginning a romantic relationship with them can create one of the most exhilarating feelings that you will experience during your lifetime. However, your emotional wellness plays a huge part in not only your health and fitness, but also your sex life. Past relationships and experiences can really effect new relationships, who you are, and who you want to become. Each time you begin a new relationship with someone, it's important to address anything that's going on with yourself. If you're emotionally unsteady because you have bottled up feelings of anger, sadness, and trauma on the inside, not only will it show up in your daily fitness and wellness health, but in your personal relationships and sex life as well. To have a healthy sex life, you need to be healthy on the inside by addressing any hidden issues or baggage that you may be carrying with you. How to Recognize and Share Your Personal Feelings In a relationship, it's important to recognize how you feel and not to ignore those feelings. Ask yourself, what do you want in a relationship? What do you want for your sex life? What do you want for your career and the rest of your life? For you to be able to recognize your feelings and open up to your partner about your wants and desires, you should first become intimate with yourself. You can do this by giving yourself self-care and self-love. Begin by slowing down and taking a moment to understand what is going on with you. Try to be in the present and recognize what emotions you're feeling right now. Come back to yourself and be honest with what you want and need. Learn To Understand Your Partner's Love Language When you understand yourself better, you can learn to listen to your partner better as well. However, miscommunication or no communication can still happen throughout a relationship. Fortunately, coaches like Natalie and Bob can help you can fix that by using strategies and tools to help open up and improve communication with your partner. These communication tools can help you both to understand each other's love language, what your desires are, and how you can recreate something in your relationship. To understand your partner's love language, it may mean unpacking any baggage and talking about issues that you haven't even discussed about in the past. How to Get Out Of A Shame Spiral Something that can keep us back from having a fulfilling relationship and sex life is the shame that we feel for ourselves. This shame spiral can happen to us when we don't feel good in our own bodies or the person that we are. If you're feeling shameful, it could be happening because you're in a constant pattern of avoidance. This pattern occurs when we're stuck in an unhealthy routine that doesn't allow us to find out what's really going on with ourselves. This pattern of avoidance could include having lots of unfulfilling sex, drinking, working a lot, spending time on social media, or even just rational thinking. Rational thinking mode is a thought addiction and surprisingly enough, over-thinking will keep you from having connected, fulfilling relationships. To have a better sex life, you should look deep inside yourself and have an internal inquiry. Ask yourself what's holding you back from having great sex and even other experiences such as an amazing life or career? To help you truly escape this shame spiral and begin having fulfilling relationships and great sex, reach out to sources of support and help if you must do so. Don't Be Afraid To Reach Out For Help If you're struggling with your emotions and your shame spiral is keeping you from connecting with your partner, don't be afraid to reach out for help. Because we're only human, we can't take this journey all by ourselves. Talk to close friends about what you're going through and maybe they've been through the same obstacles. Ask someone to be your accountability partner to help hold you responsible for the goals that you want to accomplish. Spend time with like-minded people in person or virtually online with different communities. Seek professional help by reaching out to therapy groups such as the ManKind Project or life coaches like Natalie and Bob. They can give you the support, strategy, and the tools that you need to help you live a fulfilling sex life with your partner.
