Are you living under the constant pressure of feeling like you should be doing MORE? Or feeling like you should BE more? That you're always letting people down. Or letting GOD down. If guilt and overwhelm have become a big part of your life, I'm glad you found this episode! As my guest today writes in his new book, You Were Never Meant to Do It All: A 40-Day Devotional on the Goodness of Being Human, “God has not designed us to do everything, be everywhere, or know everything. We can value our work, our bodies, and our relationships without thinking we must have endless energy, always be strong, or have unending emotional reserves. God simply didn't create us in this way.” I'm excited to introduce you today to Dr. Kelly Kapic. Eric and I met Kelly and his wife, Tabitha, through mutual friends while our daughter was attending Covenant College in Lookout Mountain, Georgia, where Dr. Kapic is a professor of theological studies. Kelly is also a speaker and an award-winning author. His books have greatly impacted our family, so for this episode, I asked my husband Eric to join me in this helpful conversation about accepting and finding freedom in our limitations as humans. There is much to be gained by leaning into God's good design for us. To realize that we CAN'T “do it all”, not because something is wrong with us, but because we are created to be dependent on God and on others. Only God Himself is without limits and fully in control. As we more deeply settle into this way of thinking and living, we can experience greater growth, a deeper sense of community, and more peace, rest, and JOY! You can learn more about Dr. Kapic's work and writing here: https://www.covenant.edu/academics/bible/faculty/kapic.html Also, don't forget that as a Fighting for Joy listener you can receive 10% off of your first month of counseling services from BetterHelp, my podcast sponsor. It is said by some that Jesus never actually claimed to be God in the flesh. He only claimed to be a prophet of God. However, we see many places in Scripture, where His deity is quite obvious. Join us this Sunday, as we continue our series in the Gospel of John, where we'll find in verses 9:35-41, something amazing. We find Jesus accepting worship from a man he healed from blindness. Only God Himself can receive worship. If Jesus was not God, this would be a direct violation of the first 2 commandments! Instead, we find here, that Jesus is “The Son of Man, Worthy of Worship”.
The world tells you that self determination is the ultimate goal of life. The truth is that we exist in relationship to God whether we like it or not. Anything that steals us from God will always make us miserable. Only God Himself will bring us true joy. In this episode, Pastor Taylor Gabbert explores the despair of sin in Psalms 51. Over time, all the straining and striving doesn’t accomplish the work God gives us to do. Only God Himself can do the work through us. God's power in us is the fuel that not only gives us the will but the power to do what He has called us to do.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
As Pastor Johnny continues his teaching series through the book of 1 Samuel, he'll be exhorting you to repent of any sin you've been holding onto. The world, the flesh, and the devil are always at work trying to make you believe that carnal pleasures can satisfy your soul. This is a lie that has been told from the very beginning. Only God Himself can satisfy the longing of your soul, and only He can bring freedom from the bondage of that sin. As a Christian, sin no longer has dominion over you!

Luke 9 & Hebrews 12 Through the pain & heaviness of life, have faith. 1. Carrying your cross. (Luke9:23) 2. Heavy is the cross. 3. Whose cross is it anyway? (Hebrews 12:1-2) Know that we are a broken people. So own your brokenness and inability to live without Christ. Trust that Only God Himself can carry us through the darkest moments. Embrace the absolute dependence on our Messiah, and only in Him can we find true happiness.
Humans are at the center of everything God created. Only God Himself is more important. That is why the creation of the first man and woman—Adam and Eve—deserved its own session. As you prepare for this week's session, there are two words that might be unclear or even confusing. The first is our in Genesis... Moses was struggling to accept what God wanted him to do, which was return to Egypt and set the Israelites free from their slavery. In this conversation with Moses through the burning bush, God used the signs of turning the staff into a snake and Moses' hand to show Moses his power. Our Bible reading is Exodus 4:1-17. “Now therefore go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall speak.”Exodus 4:12 Signs from God God used signs in the Bible for various reasons. Sometimes signs were used to send a message or a warning, or in fulfillment of a promise. Only God Himself chose when He gave signs to His people. In our lives, we shouldn't “ask” God to give us a “sign” to show us His will for us; His will is revealed through His Word, the Bible! Intro When you comprehend the holiness of God, you can truly believe in Him; when you comprehend the holiness of God, you'll know the meaning of “God Himself, the Unique.” Verse 1 You'll no longer imagine you can walk other roads, no longer willing to betray God's plans. Because God's essence is truly holy, only through Him can you walk the right path. Chorus Because nothing created or non-created has the essence of God like this, no person or thing can save you or lead you. This is the importance of God's essence to man. Verse 2 Only through God can you know life's meaning and live out real humanity, possessing truth, knowing the truth. Only through God can you gain life from truth. Pre-chorus Only God Himself can help you shun evil, deliver you from harm and control of Satan. Chorus Because nothing created or non-created has the essence of God like this, no person or thing can save you or lead you. This is the importance of God's essence to man. Verse 3 None but God can save you from the sea of suffering. It's determined by the essence of God. Only God Himself saves you selflessly. He arranges all things for you. Bridge Only He's responsible for your future, for your destiny and for your life. This is something nothing created or non-created can achieve. Chorus Because nothing created or non-created has the essence of God like this, no person or thing can save you or lead you. This is the importance of God's essence to man. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. WHY? Mary had a little lamb His fleece was white as snow. John 1:29 NIV 29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! Revelation 5:1-5 NIV Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. 2 And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?” 3 But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. 4 I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. 5 Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.” The number 7 indicates totality and completeness. Only God Himself is worthy and has authority to be sovereign of His plans. Isaiah 9:6-7 NIV 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. Revelation 5:6a. NIV 6 Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, John uses the word anion 28X’s in revelation. It means sheep, lamb or little lamb. The Lamb was slain at a point in time, but the efficacy of His death is still present in all it’s power. Hebrews 9:11-14 NIV 11 But when Christ came as high priest of the good things that are now already here, he went through the greater and more perfect tabernacle that is not made with human hands, that is to say, is not a part of this creation. 12 He did not enter by means of the blood of goats and calves; but he entered the Most Holy Place once for all by his own blood, thus obtaining[b] eternal redemption. 13 The blood of goats and bulls and the ashes of a heifer sprinkled on those who are ceremonially unclean sanctify them so that they are outwardly clean. 14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death,[c] so that we may serve the living God! Revelation 5:6b NIV standing at the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. The Lamb had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits[a] of God sent out into all the earth. 7 Horns - totality of power 7 eyes/7 Spirits - fullness of God’s presence through the Spirit Revelation 5:7-8 7 He went and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. 8 And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of God’s people. Primary prayers for Jews - deliverance from bondage and restoration of the kingdom. Revelation 5:9a. NIV 9 And they sang a new song, saying: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, Through the cross the true purpose of God is revealed to us. Not just that Israel would be restored but that the whole of the created order would be restored. Psalm 8:4-8 NIV 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? 5 You have made them a little lower than the angels and crowned them with glory and honor. 6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their[e] feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. At the cross, Jesus Christ took back dominion for humankind by destroying the power of sin and death. Christians are not waiting to go to heaven. Christians are waiting for heaven to come to us. Revelation 21:1-4 NIV 1 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” ESV Study Bible - The earth will not always be tyrannized by satan and destroyed by his followers. The first heaven and earth, stained by the curse through human sin, will be replaced by a new heaven and earth in which Christ’s Saints will reign in righteousness. Revelation 5:9b NIV and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. Luke 2:10 NIV 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Genesis 12:1-3 NIV 1 The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. 2 “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. 3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” Revelation 5:10 NIV 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.” In this new Kingdom we will have unfettered and uninhibited access to God and He will be with us forever. Revelation 5:11-12 NIV 11 Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. 12 In a loud voice they were saying: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!” The Lamb here receives the same ascriptions of praise as well as other ascriptions normally reserved for God. If the Lamb is worthy of praise He must be God. The baby boy we celebrate the birth of at Christmas time is God incarnate. Bottom Line: Mary had a little lamb who is worthy of all praise because He is God! Where does worship of the Lamb rank in your life? Revelation 5:13 NIV 13 Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!” Bottom Line: Mary had a little lamb who is worthy of all praise because He is God!!!
Pastor Adam Burton concludes our series, Living in Light of Christ’s Return, preaching from 1 Thessalonians 5:23-28. The main idea is: Only God Himself can empower you to live a holy life as you anticipate the coming of Jesus Christ.
I The way of life isn't something anyone possesses; it's not something anyone can get easily. For life comes only from God, only God Himself has the substance of life, only God has the way of life. So only God is the source of life, and the ever-flowing wellspring of living water of life. From the creation of the world, God has done a lot of work that involves the vitality of life, that brings life to man; He has paid a great price for man to gain life. For God Himself is eternal life; He is the way by which man gets resurrection. II God has never been absent from the heart of man, He always lives among man. He is the driving force of their living, and the foundation of their existence; He is a rich deposit for man to live on. He causes man to be reborn, and makes them live strongly in their different roles. Only God Himself has the substance of life, only God has the way of life. So only God is the source of life, and the ever-flowing wellspring of living water of life. Because of His power and His unfailing life force, man has lived generation after generation. The power of God's life persistently supports man; God has paid a price that no ordinary man has ever paid. III God's life force prevails over all power; and it exceeds all power. His life is eternal, His power is extraordinary. No created being or enemy can overwhelm His life force, which exists and shines brilliant radiance at any time or any place, at any time or any place. Only God Himself has the substance of life, only God has the way of life. So only God is the source of life, and the ever-flowing wellspring of living water of life. Heaven, earth may change hugely, God's life never will. All things are gone, but God's life still remains, for God is the source and the root of the existence of all things, for God Himself is eternal life. IV Man's life originates from God, heaven exists because of God, and the earth exists because of the power of God's life. No object possessed of vitality can transcend the sovereignty of God, and nothing with vigor can break away from the ambit of God's authority. Only God Himself has the substance of life, only God has the way of life. So only God is the source of life, and the ever-flowing wellspring of living water of life. In this way, no matter who they are, all mankind must submit, must submit under the dominion of God, live under His command. No one can escape, no one can escape, escape from His control. from “Only Christ of the Last Days Can Give Man the Way of Eternal Life” in The Word Appears in the Flesh Recommendation: New Heaven and Earth Has Appeared "The Universe and Expanse Is Praising God"

In difficult circumstances, are we thankful? Only God Himself can enable us to be thankful for these kinds of situations.
Adam and Eve started a chain-reaction of unrighteousness. Neither Abraham, judges, or kings could lead God's people to recover the righteousness that was lost at the Fall. Only God Himself was up for such a task, so Jesus was born. Jesus came to make unrighteous people right before God. He came to live the life none of us could live, and in His advent we see the righteousness of God who wants His people to be like Him.
Caution: A lot of bosom discussion in this one. Last week we competed against Polygon.com's video game podcast The Besties and stole their halftime. This week? We review and compete against the Nerdist's Indoor Kids. Who will win? What will we permanently steal from their show? Only God Himself knows. Plus: a little newsie-woosie, Go For Retro review of Wabbit for the Atari 2600, Dishonored DLC, Elizabeth's increased bust size in the "Rapture" DLC, Elysium and more.
