Doug Pagitt says it's important to helping faith voters to detach from a republican voting identity if they wish to. Pagitt, a former Evangelical Pastor from the emergent church movement, feels his organization, Vote Common Good, was able to help shift 5 to 10 percent of Evangelicals away from Republicans. Can they do it again or more in 2024 from supporting a party that Doug says is about “policies of division, racism, selfishness, cruelty, and exclusion”? First of all, there is no party called "Christian Nationalists". That's why many conservative Christians are stymied by how to respond to the left's accusations of Christian Nationalism. So, with that in mind, it makes more sense to have two Christians representing each side of the debate, talk with each other about what Christian Nationalism is, and what it is not. The problem though is that it is a term created and defined by liberals and tends to strike fear for those on the political left. It describes what liberals believe Christian conservatives want to achieve politically for their faith, a theocracy where Christianity is the favored religion. On this episode of Lighthouse Faith podcast, Dr. Alex McFarland and Pastor Doug Pagitt, respectively challenge and debate each other. McFarland is a Christian evangelist, author and speaker on culture and religion. Pagitt is the founder of Vote Common Good and a self-described progressive on issues concerning faith and politics. If you're a liberal Christian who can listen to a conservative, or a conservative Christian who can listen to a liberal, then congratulations; you are part of the work crew who will help repair and rebuild the Body of Christ. Our guest this week recently traveled down to the border to confront the so-called “Army of God” as part of a larger project of providing alternative ideologies to Christian nationalism. Doug Pagitt is a pastor, author and the executive director of Vote Common Good, an organization aimed at influencing evangelical Christians. His group has been on a nationwide tour focused on directly engaging evangelicals in key swing states with the hope of swaying a critical percentage of them against former President Donald Trump. Pagitt believes a small portion of these voters are swayable and that if they are engaged, election outcomes can be flipped. He joins WITHpod to discuss the trajectory of evangelical politics, what he's learned on tour and what's at stake in this year's election.

She began performing for LGBTQ folks at the Over the Rainbow Bar in Downtown St. Paul in 1997. Since then, she and her team at Premier Entertainment have appeared regularly at a number of local venues in the Twin Cities. “Twenty years ago, I was a singer, and then the LGBTQ community welcomed me with open arms. That changed my life, and now I am an entertainer. These years have taught me how a chosen family comes together to support each other and rally together during times of adversity. I feel very fortunate to be able to perform as often as we do, and it's because of the people who spend their time at our shows, some on a weekly basis, and some once a month or so, who give us the opportunity to entertain and do what we love the most. The past 20+ years have been the blessing of my life, and I get weepy just thinking about it".DeDe "Dana" Pagitt, who is Mia's show producer and manager takes song requests during the Mia Dorr Show and banters with the audience. “The music at our shows is reflective of people who are in the audience. Mia was once referred to as ‘a passionate and energetic performer with a repertoire of unparalleled diversity.' I love this description, because it describes her so succinctly. Our favorite music is what moves audience members, either physically in their chairs or in the memories in their minds, or stirs them in their souls. Those are the best ones!”.We had an absolute BLAST getting to laugh and talk about real life with these two. Dede shares amazing wisdom and advice that she uses daily for her own personal growth. What motivates the Christian voter? How does faith influence politics? Pastor Doug Pagitt joins Ed & Perry to discuss these questions, and his organization Vote Common Good which inspires and mobilizes people of faith towards more civic engagement. Doug Pagitt is an American author, pastor, social activist and executive director of Vote Common Good. A leading voice for progressive Christianity, Doug makes frequent national media and speaking appearances. Pagitt, an early leader in the movement, founded Solomon's Porch, a “holistic missional Christian community” in Minneapolis. His new book, Outdoing Jesus, is available now from Eerdmans Publishing.
Schenck and Doug Pagitt explore the work Pagitt is doing with “Vote Common Good”. A non-partisan organization meant to give Evangelicals an allowance to think a bit out of the normal when it comes to politics.
Eliza Griswold spoke recently with Doug Pagitt, a pastor from Minneapolis who is a politically progressive evangelical Christian. Pagitt left his church to found an organization called Vote Common Good, which aims to move at least some religious voters away from decades of supporting conservatism, and toward messages of inclusion and tolerance that he identifies as Biblical. And the radio personality Lenard McKelvey, known professionally as Charlamagne Tha God, talks about why he wrote a book, “Shook One,” about his treatment for anxiety disorder. Charlamagne wants to reach black men, in particular, to try to remove a perceived stigma around mental-health treatment in the black community.

Serving the common good by barnstorming the country to move voters to flip Congress. It is up to the people to change the status quo. “When you live in a time when there's big social issues, you don't do nothin'.” Invoking traditionally Republican religious voters to vote their actual, bleeding-heart-conservative consciences, which tend to the charitable. The role of fashionable celebrity leaders in taking power from people. 31:00-36:00 Making a statement by running for President in every election to remind us that the President is just one of the By The People people. The body of Christ. Voting for the common good by writing in “common good” or simply not voting, or voting for the democratic candidate. In this episode we try something a little different. Since Ted co-authored a book several years ago called "Why We're Not Emergent" and since the key players in the Emergent movement keep rearing their heads we figured we'd do a "where are they now?" episode. We follow up on Rob Bell, Mark Driscoll, Doug Pagitt, Dan Kimball, and Brian McLaren to see what they're doing now, what are they teaching now, and what their current hair styles might be. We also get an important update from Ronnie on when the heck we'll get a new intro some we can lay the current one to rest with proper honors.
Doug Pagitt is a church planter, author, social media consultant, radio host, and all around good dude. This week he joins us for a conversation about his new book Church in the Inventive Age and we have a great time. It's sure to get your brain a flowing and your mouse a clickin' (to amazon through THIS link so I get credit and you get your Pagitt for the pooper plane reading).
