Ceardchumann altraí le gníomhaíocht thionsclaíoch a phlé. The Irish Nurses and Aides Association is to allow its members to take industrial action in light of the health crisis in the country's hospitals. Tá Cumann Altraí agus Ban Cabhrach na hÉireann leis na baill a cheadú faoi ghníomhaíocht thionsclaíoch i bhfianaise na géarchéime sláinte in ospidéil na tíre. The union will hold information and consultation meetings with the members from now on for the next month to investigate the situation. Reáchtáilfidh an ceardchumann cruinnithe eolais agus comhairlithe leis na baill as seo go ceann míosa chun an scéal a chíoradh. The union says this week has been the worst week ever in terms of hospital overcrowding. Deir an ceardchumann go raibh an tseachtain seo ar an tseachtain ba mheasa riamh i dtaca le róphlódú sna hospidéil de. It is necessary, say the nurses, to introduce new legislation and also establish other structures to ensure that the appropriate number of staff will be on duty in the hospitals and that the staff will have the appropriate mix of skills, especially in times of emergency. Ní mór, a deir na haltraí, reachtaíocht nua a thabhairt isteach agus struchtúir eile a bhunú freisin lena chinntiú go mbeidh an líon cuí foirne ar dualgas sna hospidéil agus go mbeidh an meascán cuí scileanna ag an bhfoireann, go háirithe in am na héigeandála. General Secretary of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association Phil Ní Sheaghdha claimed that - without any hesitation - the number of falls in hospitals this week could have been avoided. Mhaígh Ard-Rúnaí Chumann Altraí agus Ban Cabhrach na hÉireann Phil Ní Sheaghdha go bhféadfaí - gan agó ar bith - ar thit amach sna hospidéil an tseachtain seo a sheachaint. Nurses have been warning for a long time that it would be a disaster in hospitals this month if action was not taken, she said. Tá foláireamh á thabhairt ag altraí le fada fada an lá go mbeadh sé ina chíor thuathail sna hospidéil an mhí seo mura ndéanfaí beart, arsa sí. Her colleague, Nurses Association President Karen McGowan, said it was impossible to safely care for patients in overcrowded hospitals, especially with widespread respiratory disease at present. Dúirt a comhghleacaí, Uachtarán Chumann na nAltraí Karen McGowan, dúirt sí go raibh sé dodhéanta cúram a dhéanamh go sábháilte d'othair in ospidéil atá plódaithe, go háirithe agus galair riospráide fairsing mar atá faoi láthair. She claimed that nurses and midwives are deeply disturbed by what they have seen in hospitals every day this week. Mhaígh sí go bhfuil altraí agus mná cabhrach suaite go mór de bharr a bhfaca siad sna hospidéil gach uile lá an tseachtain seo. Their anxiety, however, is not visible in the shadow of the patients' anxiety, said Karen McGowan, and she drew attention to the delay caused by the rush of work and the chaos in the hospitals on the healing of patients. Ní léir a n-anrósan, áfach, ar scáth anró na n-othar, arsa Karen McGowan, agus tharraing sí aird ar an moill a chuireann an bhroid oibre agus an t-anord sna hospidéil ar chneasú othar. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ cab.clickify(); }); Original Podcast with clickable words https://tinyurl.com/2pgufm28 Contact: irishlingos@gmail.com Hospitals across the State under tremendous pressure today - Union. Ospidéil ar fud an Stáit faoi bhrú as cuimse inniu - Ceardchumann. Hospitals across the State are under immense pressure, says the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association. Tá ospidéil ar fud an Stáit faoi bhrú as cuimse, a deir Cumann Altraí agus Ban Cabhrach na hÉireann. The Association says they have never seen so much overcrowding at this time of year. Deir an Cumann nach bhfaca siad an oiread seo de róphlódú ariamh ag an tráth seo 'bhliana. The union said that all hospitals, large and small, are struggling as it becomes difficult for them to provide safe health care to patients. Dúirt an ceardchumann go bhfuil na hospidéil uilig, idir bheag agus mhór, ag streachailt agus é ag dul dian orthu cúram sláinte sábháilte a chur ar fáil d'othair. The Association wants private and public hospitals to function as one system in order to reduce the pressure and ensure that the situation does not get worse. Tá an Cumann ag iarraidh go bhfeidhmeoidh ospidéil phríobháideacha agus phoiblí mar aon chóras amháin ar mhaithe leis an bhrú a laghdú agus chun a chinntiú nach rachaidh an scéal chun donais. The Society's General Secretary Phil Ni Sheaghdha said that any emergency policy "must be implemented immediately because it will not be possible to deal with the emergency in a safe way if the conditions in the hospitals get worse." Dúirt Ardrúnaí an Chumainn Phil Ni Sheaghdha go gcaithfear aon bheartas éigeandála "is gá a chur i bhfeidhm láithreach bonn mar nach mbeifear in ann plé leis an éigeandáil ar bhealach sábháilte má éiríonn cúrsaí sna h-ospidéil níos measa." It is not normal for the number of patients in hospitals to be this high that 570 people would be so ill that they would need hospital care and there would not be enough beds for them, said Phil Ní Sheaghdha. Ní gnáthach leis an líon othair in ospidéil a bheith chomh hard seo go mbeadh 570 duine chomh tinn sin go mbeadh gá acu le cúram ospidéil agus nach mbeadh dóthain leapacha ann dóibh, a dúirt Phil Ní Sheaghdha. Early in the new year the hospitals get busy but the Association says they have never seen this much overcrowding. Go luath san athbhliain a éiríonn na h-ospidéil gnóthach ach deir an Cumann nach bhfaca siad a oiread seo de róphlódú ariamh. "Sick people have no choice but to go to the Emergency Departments of hospitals because they are unable to get an appointment with their family doctor," said the leader of the union. "Níl aon rogha ag daoine tinne ach dul chuig Rannóga Éigeandála na n-ospidéal mar nach bhfuil siad ábalta coinne a fháil lena ndochtúir teaghlaigh," a dúirt ceannaire an cheardchumainn. The Health Executive has decided to help GPs provide additional clinics to attend to patients to ease the pressure on the health system. Tá sé socraithe ag an Fheidhmeannacht Sláinte go gcabhróidh siad le dochtúirí teaghlaigh clinicí breise a chur ar fáil le freastal ar othair chun an brú ar an chóras sláinte a mhaolú.

Míshásamh faoi neamart an Rialtais i leith íocaíochtaí bónais. Health organizations have criticized the Government for the delay in bonus payments promised to health workers who were on duty during the Covid Crisis. Tá an Rialtas cáinte ag eagraíochtaí sláinte faoin moill atá le híocaíochtaí bónais atá geallta d'oibrithe sláinte a bhí ar dualgas le linn Ghéarchéim an Chovid. The Irish Nursing Homes Association says the way the Government is treating the staff who were promised payment for the work they did during the pandemic is a shame. Deir Cumann Thithe Altranais na hÉireann gur mór an náire an bealach a bhfuil an Rialtas ag caitheamh leis an meitheal foirne ar gealladh íocaíocht dóibh as an obair a rinne siad i rith na paindéime. 8 months ago the Government announced that health workers who were working on the front line would receive a recognition payment for as long as the outbreak lasted. 8 mí ó shin d'fhógair an Rialtas go mbeadh íocaíocht aitheantais le fáil ag oibrithe sláinte a bhí ag obair ar an líne-tosaigh an fhad is a mhair an oll-ráig. But the Nursing Homes Association and the Irish Alliance of Healthcare Assistants say many have not received the bonus payment fraudulently. Ach deir Cumann na dTithe Altranais agus Comhghuaillíocht Chúntóiri Cúraim Sláinte na hÉireann go bhfuil go leor nach bhfuil an íocaíocht bhónáis fáighte acu go foill. In a statement from the Nursing Homes Association they say that it is a great shame that the Government is now saying that a tender process must be undertaken. I ráiteas ó Chumann na dTithe Altranais deir siad gur mór an náire é gur anois atá an Rialtas ag rá go gcaithfear tabhairt faoi phróiseas tairisceana. The statement said that it is an insult to the workers in private nursing homes and voluntary homes who have given so much support to the community during the pandemic that the payment they say they deserve has been delayed. Dúradh sa ráiteas gur masla atá ann do na hoibrithe in árais altranais phríobháideacha agus árais dheonacha a thug an oiread tacaíochta don phobal le linn na pandéime go bhfuil moill curtha ar an íocaíocht a deir siad atá tuillte acu. Phil Ní Sheaghdha from the Irish Nurses and Aid Women's Association tells the Newsroom that the association is in contact with the Department of Health to make it easier for them to provide the allowance tax-free. Deir Phil Ní Sheaghdha ó Chumann Altraí agus Ban Cabhrach na hÉireann le Seomra na Nuachta go bhfuil an cumann i dteagmháil leis an Roinn Sláinte chun go mbeadh sé nios fusa dóibh an liúntas a chuir ar fáil saor ó cháin. Phil Ní Sheaghdha said that they have been told that the Department is now looking for a private company to ensure that the allowance is paid to those who deserve it. Dúirt Phil Ní Sheaghdha go bhfuil sé ráite leo go bhfuil an Roinn anois ag lorg comhlacht príobháideach le cinntiú go n-íocfar an liúntas leis an dream a bhfuil sé tuillte acu. The department says they will have it before Christmas. Deir an Roinn go mbeidh sé acu roimh an Nollaig. "We think they should have done it at the beginning of the Summer but now we are telling them they have to do it as quickly as they can." In a statement this evening the Department of Health says that most of the people entitled to it have received the payment. I ráiteas tráthnóna deir an Roinn Sláinte go bhfuil an íocaíocht fáighte ag formhór na ndaoine atá ina theideal. jQuery(document).ready(function(){ cab.clickify(); }); Original Podcast with clickable words https://tinyurl.com/ygcu2zc8 Hospital overcrowding is again a concern. Plódú na n-ospidéal ina údar imní arís. Secretary General of the Irish Nurses and Midwives Association Phil Ní Sheaghdha has said that the Health Service Executive is not tackling hospital overcrowding. Tá sé ráite ag Ard-Rúnaí Chumann Altraí agus Ban Cabhrach na hÉireann Phil Ní Sheaghdha nach bhfuil Feidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte ag dul i ngleic mar is cóir le plódú na n-ospidéal. Phil Ní Sheaghdha said that Covid-19 spreads rapidly in a large crowd and that there is currently a risk of hospitalization. Dúirt Phil Ní Sheaghdha go scaipeann covid 19 go rábach san áit a bhfuil slua mór agus go bhfuil baol ag baint le dul chuig an ospidéal faoi láthair dá bharr sin. According to figures released by the Association, there are 317 people waiting for hospital beds today. De réir na bhfigiúirí atá eisithe ag an gCumann, tá 317 duine ag fanacht le leapa in ospidéil inniu. There are 275 in emergency units and 42 in wards. Tá 275 acu in aonaid éigeandála agus 42 i mbardaí. The situation is worst in Limerick, with 51 people waiting for a bed. Is i Luimneach is measa atá an scéal, mar a bhfuil 51 duine ag fanacht le leaba. The Association is to write to Health Minister Stephen Donnelly about the situation. Tá an Cumann chun scríobh chuig an Aire Sláinte Stephen Donnelly faoin scéal. Speaking on RTÉ, Phil Ní Sheaghdha pointed out that more beds are needed in the health system as a whole. Ag labhairt di ar RTÉ, thug Phil Ní Sheaghdha le fios go bhfuil níos mó leapacha ag teastáil sa chóras sláitne trí chéile. She also recommended shifting some of the workload of public hospitals to private hospitals to alleviate the pressure on staff in public hospitals. Mhol sí freisin cuid d'ualach oibre na n-ospidéal poiblí a aistriú go dtí ospidéil phríobháideacha leis an mbrú ar an bhfoireann sna hospidéil phoiblí a mhaolú. She has been asking the Health Service Executive for this for three weeks, she said. Tá sí á iarraidh seo ar Fheidhmeannacht na Seirbhíse Sláinte le trí seachtaine, a dúirt sí. Phil Ní Sheaghdha also said that working conditions in hospitals are very harsh at the moment with nurses and other workers wearing masks all the time during the summer rush. Dúirt Phil Ní Sheaghdha chomh maith go bhfuil coinníollacha oibre in ospidéil an-dian faoi láthair agus maisc á gcaitheamh an t-am ar fad ag altraí agus oibrithe eile le linn bhrothall an tsamhraidh. She believes, she said, that ventilation in hospitals is bad and she wants an independent review of the situation. Creideann sí, a dúirt sí, go bhfuil cúrsaí aerála in ospidéil go dona agus tá sí ag iarraidh go ndéanfaí athbhreithniú neamhspleách ar an scéal.
