Send us a textA few days before ars ad hoc presents the Portuguese premiere of his String Quartet 2.5 "Playing with Seeds" [2017] at the Serralves Museum, American composer George E. Lewis (Chicago, 1952) shares some reflections on his long-standing fascination with the classical trope of depiction in American music. A professor in Columbia University's Department of Music and the Edwin H. Case Professor of American Music, Lewis is also the Artistic Director of the International Contemporary Ensemble, as well as co-editor and co-author of "Composing While Black: Afrodiasporic New Music Today." While pondering the question, “If we get what we want, what will it sound like?”, Lewis has been creating a series of musical meditations on the sound of decolonisation. If you follow this music page, you've probably noticed that my voice has been deteriorating over time...basically there's a mystery something or other that's negatively impacting my health and giving my cats health issues too, and it's a bad thing. That, combined with lack o' sleep did a number on my dumb voice this week. Bleh. I think I know what the mystery something-or-other is - well, lemme take that back. I don't know what the mystery something-or-other is, but I know where it came from. And even though I got rid of the thing that contaminated the house, the badness is sticking around. Lots and lots of badness.

When it comes to the Holy Spirit, most of us have questions we're a little unsure about asking:Is His voice audible or more like a nudge? How do I know it's Him and not just my own thoughts? And what happens if I ignore what He's saying? In this episode, we talk honestly about what it means to hear and engage with the Holy Spirit. We'll unpack how God speaks, why slowing down matters and how to recognize the difference between conviction and condemnation.Whether you've been following Jesus for years or you're still figuring out what all this means, this conversation will remind you that the Holy Spirit isn't distant or mysterious - He's deeply personal, always present, and still speaking.

You don't sound like you anymore. AI didn't just take over content—it took over how we talk about ourselves. We've started trusting the machine's version of our voice more than our own. The Jay Franze Show: Your backstage pass to the entertainment industry
Nashville's songwriting community suffered a devastating loss with the passing of Brett James, a prolific songwriter who gave up medical school to pursue his passion for music. With 27 number one hits among his 500+ released songs, Brett's legacy includes classics like "Jesus Take the Wheel" by Carrie Underwood and "When the Sun Goes Down" by Kenny Chesney. His story reminds us how the unexpected paths we choose can lead to extraordinary impact. We dive into the ongoing story of Farm Aid, Willie Nelson's fundraiser supporting farming communities facing economic pressure. The recent Minneapolis concert featured legends like Neil Young, John Mellencamp, and Bob Dylan, continuing a tradition that has responded to agricultural crises since the 1980s. Similarly, Luke Bryan's Farm Tour celebrates a decade of bringing music to rural America while collecting food donations for those in need. The conversation takes a fascinating turn as we explore artists who sound like others or from different eras. From Lainey Wilson echoing Miranda Lambert to Harry Connick Jr. channeling Frank Sinatra, these musical connections reveal how influence travels through generations of performers. Listeners share their own observations, creating a compelling tapestry of how country music continually evolves while honoring its roots.Current artist updates include Lainey Wilson canceling a show due to vocal issues, Brett Eldredge announcing his holiday Glow Live Tour, and Thomas Rhett expecting his fifth child. We also track both commercial and independent country charts, highlighting newcomers making waves alongside established stars.Whether you're a dedicated country fan or just curious about the genre's current landscape, our blend of news, artist spotlights, and chart updates offers something for everyone. It's frightening! It's rapturous! It's beautiful! And what we are referring to, of course, is the vulnerable concept of today's show! In this episode, your hosts continue a beloved Taylearning tradition as they guess what each of the tracks on “The Life of a Showgirl” will sound like. For centuries, the primary way that astronomers studied outer space was through sight. But just ten years ago, scientists successfully established a way to ‘listen' to our cosmos – detecting gravitational waves created by huge cosmic events that took place billions of light years away. While your competitors are stuck in voicemail purgatory, a small group of top performers has unlocked a secret pipeline of qualified sales leads. They've discovered how to stop chasing and start attracting, all by generating warm leads through podcast interviews. Not by starting their own shows, but by treating every podcast appearance as a lead generation machine built on conversation and credibility. As Molly Ruland, CEO of Heartcast Media, puts it, "You don't need a hundred new clients tomorrow. Two people who really like you and understand your business talking about you in rooms you're not in can change your pipeline." This mindset shift transforms how you approach every conversation so that it compounds into trust, referrals, and revenue. The Real Problem with Your Pipeline You're sending out hundreds of emails, making dozens of cold calls, and hoping something sticks. It's exhausting—and it rarely produces the kind of relationships that lead to real opportunities. Your prospects don't want to be sold to. They're sick of transactional relationships. They want genuine conversations and solutions from people they trust. This is where most salespeople fail to find a qualified sales lead. They're focused on the sale, not the connection. So what's the alternative? It's learning to treat every podcast appearance as more than just an interview. Done right, podcasts become a warm stage where you can demonstrate expertise, build credibility, and start relationships that turn into pipeline. To make this work, you need a simple, repeatable system—a four-step process that transforms a single podcast conversation into a flow of qualified leads. Step 1: Finding the Right Stage The process is about being smart, not getting famous. You don't need to get on the biggest podcast in the world. You need to get on the right podcast. The right podcast is where your ideal customer profile (ICP) is already gathered, listening, and learning. A show with 50 listeners who are all in your target market is a thousand times more valuable than a show with 50,000 listeners who will never buy from you. How do you find the right podcasts? Ask your best clients what they listen to. Research key influencers in your space. Look for shows that specifically address the problems you solve. Your goal is simple: Find and get on shows hosted by industry connectors, aggregators, and experts who have already earned the trust of your prospects. This allows you to skip the cold outreach and get a warm introduction to your next qualified sales lead. Step 2: The Introduction That Doesn't Sound Like a Pitch Once you've identified your target shows, the next step is getting invited. This is a crucial moment. A generic email won't cut it. You have to craft a message that offers value, not asks for a favor. Your outreach needs to be personalized and direct. Don't talk about how great you are. Talk about the host's audience. Explain why your expertise, insights, or unique perspective will provide undeniable value to their listeners. Reference a specific episode or a past guest to prove you've done your homework. And don't limit yourself to email. LinkedIn is one of the most effective platforms for securing podcast invitations. Sending a thoughtful, personalized LinkedIn message—paired with a strong profile that showcases your expertise—positions you as a credible guest. When a host sees you consistently sharing relevant insights on LinkedIn, your ask feels natural instead of opportunistic. When you offer to help them provide a great episode, you position yourself as a partner. You're not begging for airtime. You're offering a valuable conversation. This approach immediately sets you apart and begins the relationship-building process that is essential to finding a qualified sales lead. Step 3: Mastering the Conversation The interview itself is not a sales call. Your goal is to be a helpful,

Feel like summers are hotter than they used to be? It's not just your imagination. Climate researchers say that average annual temperatures around the country have been trending upwards for the past 50 years — and are still on the rise. But it can be hard to represent those numbers in a way that makes sense to everyday people. So Gulf States Newsroom reporter and New Orleans resident Drew Hawkins wondered: What if he could help people hear those changes for themselves? Turn temperatures into tunes? This episode is part of Nature Quest, a monthly Short Wave segment that answers listener questions about their local environment.Got a question about changes in your local environment? When Your Copy Evolves, So Does Your Business In this episode, I share how shedding "safe" copy transformed my business. From sharpening your brand message to showing up as your unapologetic self, I dive into the copywriting strategies that helped me write with more clarity, confidence, and connection. You'll learn how to channel bold, emotionally resonant messaging that doesn't just attract your audience—it moves them to act. I break down lessons from standout copywriters and marketers like Marie Forleo, Gary Vee, and Veronica Romney, and explain how to apply these proven strategies to your emails, social posts, sales pages, and beyond. Whether you're still writing all your own copy or managing a team, this episode is your guide for developing a voice that feels authentic and sells. HERE ARE THE 3 KEY TAKEAWAYS FROM THIS EPISODE: 1️⃣ The Copy That Works Is the Copy That Feels Risky – If your message feels neutral, it's likely you're playing it too safe. The copy that truly resonates often feels vulnerable to write—and that's what makes it powerful. 2️⃣ You Don't Need More Ideas, Just More Ways to Say What Matters – Inspired by Gary Vee, I explain how repeating your core messages in creative ways builds trust, visibility, and connection across platforms. 3️⃣ Identity Marketing Beats Feature-Driven Copy Every Time – Veronica Romney's concept of identity marketing reframes your messaging to reflect who your audience is becoming, not just what you're selling. It's a subtle shift that drives deeper resonance and more conversions. RESOURCES MENTIONED IN THIS EPISODE: If you're not seeing the sales you expected, there's a good chance it's your copy.
