I've been wearing Altra shoes for years - I absolutely love the roomy toe box that leaves extra room for my feet to move more naturally. And these shoes look distinct compared to other shoes: they're shaped like actual feet. They can give your feet just what they need, especially if you want a roomier toebox because of bunions or a hammer toe, or just wanting more comfort. Altra shoes aren't just zero-drop anymore, either. They have 4mm heel-toe drop models and I've found that this is my personal sweet spot. I love shoes that have between 4 and 8mm so the FWD Via 2 are quickly becoming my favorite pair. And plus, I do actually like the 0 drop Altras for walking and casual wear - like a quick trip to the grocery store. They're a training tool to help me build foot strength, promote a more natural gait, and give my foot the room it needs to expand naturally. I've partnered with Altra to get new customers 10% off your next order. Go to Altrarunning.com and use code jason10 to save 10% today. Stay out there! Thank you LMNT! Their newest flavor Lemonade Salt is now permanently available (it's now my favorite). They're also offering 12oz cans of sparkling LMNT water that has half the sodium concentration of a packet. Check them out. LMNT's products have some of the highest sodium concentrations that you can find. Anybody who runs a lot knows that sodium, as well as other electrolytes like magnesium and potassium, are essential to our performance and how we feel throughout the day. LMNT is my favorite way to hydrate. I'm now in the habit of giving away boxes of LMNT at group runs around Denver and Boulder and everyone loves this stuff.

Caffeine is one of the most researched performance enhancers in endurance sports, yet most runners know surprisingly little about how to use it effectively. In this conversation, Stone Creek Coffee founders Eric Resch and Amy Balestrieri separate the science from the myths, discussing when caffeine actually helps performance, why timing matters more than quantity, and how too much can hurt your sleep and recovery. They also explore why that morning cup of coffee is about far more than caffeine, touching on the rituals, psychology, and community that make coffee such an important part of endurance culture. Along the way, you'll learn about caffeine tolerance, race-day strategies, common misconceptions like dehydration, and even what goes into producing a truly great cup of coffee. You'll come away with a better understanding of how to make caffeine work for you and a new appreciation for the cup of coffee that starts so many great adventures. Marc Hopkins, author of Hard Things, set out to write a book about running the Bigfoot 200, but what emerged was something much deeper. In this conversation, he shares how endurance running became the lens through which he uncovered old stories about self-worth, fear, identity, and the belief that one more finish line would finally make him enough. Together, we explore why runners chase hard things, the difference between simply enduring life and living with purpose, and how the trail can expose what's really driving us. Marc also opens up about surviving a 99% heart blockage, learning when grit is a strength and when it's time to stop, and why vulnerability may be the toughest skill endurance athletes ever develop. If you've ever wondered why you run, or found yourself learning more about your life than your splits during a long run, this conversation will stay with you long after the episode ends. What if getting older doesn't mean doing less, but doing it better? In this installment of the Aging as an Athlete series, legendary ultrarunner Krissy Moehl welcomes longtime climber and Patagonia ambassador Kate Rutherford for a conversation about longevity, purpose, and evolving with age. Kate shares how decades of climbing taught her that technical skill, efficiency, and joy can eventually outweigh youthful strength and endurance. The discussion explores everything from body awareness and recovery to nutrition, community, and why learning to focus on what truly matters becomes one of the greatest athletic advantages. Whether you're a runner, climber, or simply hoping to stay active for life, this episode offers a refreshing perspective on growing older without giving up adventure. Kate is a long time professional climber, artist, advocate for wilderness, eater of leafy organic greens, president of Farm To Crag, and product line manager at Patagonia. Her passion for climbing has taken her all over the world including first ascents on Fitz Roy in Patagonia, Kenya, Iran, and Venezuela, a free ascent of El Capitan's Free Rider. She has had the opportunity to work with some amazing organizations, including Patagonia, La Sportiva, Edelrid, Black Diamond, Clif Bar, the Access Fund, and the American Alpine club. The combination of climbing, a biology degree from the Colorado College, rural homesteading in Alaska, subsistence hunting and fishing, carrots from Mom's garden, and watching organic regenerative agriculture's ability to combat climate change, has led me to co-found Farm to Crag. It is the perfect blend of climbing, stories, farms, maps, organic greens, environmental activism, and dinner parties. Are you looking for the ultimate trail running shoe that fixes the flaws of previous models? The Altra Olympus 275 might just be the best shoe Altra has ever made, offering a massive upgrade over the standard Olympus 6.In this video, I am sharing my honest review of the Altra Olympus 275 after three months of testing and several races. If you were disappointed with the Olympus 6 like I was, you will be happy to see how these modifications have transformed the shoe into a top tier performer. The standout feature is the new Matrix upper which provides incredible breathability and allows water to drain quickly. Combined with the TPEE sock liner and a specialized CMEVA foam, this shoe offers a level of comfort and performance that surpasses previous iterations. I also dive into the classic zero drop design and the spacious forefront that Altra fans know and love.We also discuss the reliable Vibram outsole and its lug pattern, the price point you can expect to pay, and a sneak peek at the upcoming Olympus 275 Hilo model. This shoe is a huge improvement in terms of cushioning and design, making it a strong contender for shoe of the year.#altra #trailrunning #olympus275 #runningshoes #geartest

See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Wild Card time! No prompts, no script, and no rules! Expect the unexpected as this jam-packed episode swings from the bizarre to the profound. You'll hear wild field updates featuring a 1:37 AM wake-up call by sheriff deputies in a cemetery, a chaotic mid-day standoff between a coyote and a turkey, and the pure joy of a trail angel loaning out a truck packed with ice cream. But it's not all crazy stories; the crew gets incredibly vulnerable about the logistics and psychology of thru-hiking, tackling everything from heavy pack weights and physical conditioning to the therapeutic escape from corporate "joyless urgency," the beauty of forming an all-female "girl band" trail family, and a completely transparent financial breakdown of a $24,000 thru-hiking budget.
