Sometimes, life forces us to slow down in the most unexpected ways. Last weekend, I found myself in a hospital bed—completely unplanned, completely out of my control. And in those quiet, heavy moments, I was reminded of three powerful lessons that I could only learn, from spending the weekend in the hospital. In today's episode, I'm sharing the 3 lessons I learned and how my perspective has shifted in hope that these three lessons can make a difference in your life too.Looking for guidance to help plan your goals for the year: GET ACCESS TO YOUR GOAL PLANNING WORKBOOK FOR THE NEW YEAR! Welcome to The Times of Israel's Daily Briefing, your 20-minute audio update on what's happening in Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish world. Political correspondent Sam Sokol joins host Jessica Steinberg on today's show. Sokol discusses the political machinations in the Knesset as voting over the 2025 budget leads National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir and several ultra-Orthodox parties to threaten to oppose the bill, given some of the planned cuts. While Ben Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich have banded together in the past over their political aspirations, the two have been at odds for some time, which could possibly lead to a break in Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's coalition, explains Sokol. Sokol reviews the further political dramas that played out on Tuesday in the Knesset, as Netanyahu, recovering from a successful prostate removal surgery at the Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem, was forced to leave his hospital bed and return to the Knesset, in order to cast a decisive vote on the budget law, and thwart Ben Gvir. Another Knesset member, Likud MK Boaz Bismuth, who was in the midst of the seven-day mourning period for his mother, was also pushed to leave the shiva and come to the Knesset and vote in favor of the bill. Sokol also offers a brief description of the fragment of a Houthi missile that landed in his Beit Shemesh neighborhood late Monday night. For news updates, please check out The Times of Israel’s ongoing live blog. Discussed articles include: PM leaves hospital to cast decisive vote on a budget law, thwarting Ben Gvir revolt Coalition factions threaten to vote against key budget bill over cuts, Haredi draft In rare cross-aisle cooperation, MKs back bill to penalize ministers who snub oversight IDF downs ballistic missile from Yemen as sirens heard across central Israel Subscribe to The Times of Israel Daily Briefing on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, or wherever you get your podcasts. In China, shared bikes and power banks have proven to be successful, will 'shared hospital beds', which are now being tested in some hospitals, also be a success? Can this shorten the long waiting list for treatment? On the show: Heyang, Ding Heng & Yushun

In this episode of the Memoirs of an LDS Servant Teacher, Maurice Harker addresses a common struggle for women in relationships: Why do I feel pressured to fix everything while I'm hurting? Using powerful metaphors like the “Double Burn Victim Scenario” and the “Hospital Bed,” Maurice explains why it is unrealistic—and unhealthy—to expect someone who is emotionally injured to be responsible for the healing of others. Whether it's a spouse who demands validation while you're recovering from trauma or society's pressure to “bounce back,” this episode sheds light on how to protect yourself and focus on your own healing journey. You don't need to leave your own “hospital bed” to take care of others. Confidence is being expressed that a new allocation of hospital beds announced for the MidWest will be enough to meet future patient demand. Under new government plans, 156 new beds will be delivered in the region by 2028, including 48 new beds at Ennis General and 84 at University Hospital Limerick. Although UHL remains consistently the most overcrowded facility by far nationwide , the plans have pledged 34% fewer new beds to the MidWest than any other HSE health region over this timeframe. Mountshannon Fianna Fáil Senator Timmy Dooley though believes the new beds will make a substantial difference here.

Speaking at a visit to University Hospital Limerick this afternoon, Minister Stephen Donnelly has confirmed 20 permanent step-down transition and rehab beds will come on stream at Cahercalla Community Hospital between July and September of this year. Separately, the opening hours of the Medical Assessment Unit at Ennis Hospital will be extended to 8am to midnight by September while the service will be made 24/7 by December. With the first of two 96-bed blocks to be opened at UHL early next year, Minister Donnelly claims the new beds in Ennis will offset capacity issues for the time being.

After multiple, back-to-back surgeries, Mauricio was in the hospital for 5 weeks. But he had a law firm to run, and was working out of his laptop in his hospital bed. This proved to be unsustainable and unhealthy. But far too often, entrepreneurs think of their own abilities as the only way to get something done. When it comes to business, that's a fast-track to burnout and declining mental (and physical) health. There's too much to do. My story is similar, with being paralyzed over night and losing my job in the hospital. Both Mauricio and I had to get humble - we had no choice. We needed help. And we learned from that and apply it to our businesses every day. We're sharing the lessons we learned in this episode of Saving Capitalism.
