Digital transformation isn't just for Silicon Valley companies or young startups. It's a way of life for any creative expecting to survive in the next decade. Jeff Bezos (the founder of Amazo) said, "in today's era of volatility, there is no other way but to re-invent. The only sustainable advantage you can have over others is agility, that's it. Because nothing else is sustainable, everything else you create, someone else will replicate". Many young people are always complaining about the complexity of life today, and because of this, most end up unmotivated to learn. This is the same mentality that drowns our black communities deeper into the poverty pit. On this session of W.O.R.D podcast, we want to tell you that anything is learnable. Do you still remember when you struggled to write your three-letter name in first grade? Look at you now. Programming is no different. Not only is a relevant skill to have, but it is a learnable skill too. Sbonelo Mkhize shares his inspiring journey as a self-taught programmer with the hope that it fuels you to chase your dreams, relentlessly. Because he is a generous 'tech-dude', he also suggested courses and tools to leverage as you continue on your quest to empower yourself and others. 1. Free Code Camp - Their to help people learn to code for free. We accomplish this by creating thousands of videos, articles, and interactive coding lessons - all freely available to the public. 2. Harvard cs50 Course - This is CS50x, Harvard University's introduction to the intellectual enterprises of computer science and the art of programming for majors and non-majors alike, with or without prior programming experience. We love hearing from you. Tell us what you think about our podcast, like and subscribe. My morning routine involves reading a list of statements, this list anchors who I am and what I want to live everyday. I want to live THE MOST AWESOME LIFE POSSIBLE. But to do this our environment must be just right to live the life we want to live. People, places, your bed, what's in your fridge, in your ears, on your phone, EVERYTHING contributes to how we feel and act daily. I hope you decide to create your own AWESOME morning list, please tag me in it when you post it on social media, if you do (feel free to keep it personal, but I want to inspire others to do the same). I think this will help improve your motivation and momentum daily.
From the hills of Scranton to the shores of Patchogue Bay, Bill Edwards pursued a career in radio driven by his love of music. As program director at WALK on Long Island, he helped build the sound of the station through the 1980s and 90s. On today's episode he takes us through the evolving history of music programming, from gut-level decisions to precise polling data to non-stop Christmas music (for which he may or may not be responsible). Last year, shortly after visiting New Zealand, Taiwanese political activist and civic hacker Audrey Tang was appointed as a Cabinet Minister with special responsibility for solving communication quandries within and outside government - making her the first transgender person appointed to Taiwan's executive. Audrey's background includes helping design Apple's Siri technology's voice recognition abilities, and creating social media that helps organisations learn about how employee's work flow and institutional knowledge. Audrey was closely involved with Taiwan's Occupy movement, and was a key player in helping democratise decision-making after the unpopularity of the previous government. Taiwan is a young democracy going through rapid changes - many of them facilitated by an attitude of 'open government' - that would've have seemed impossible a short time ago. After her rapturously received talk at the tech focused Open Source//Open Society conference Audrey spoke to The Weekend producer Shaun D Wilson.
