Sara, Allison's mother, "was all about lightness, air, love, encouragement and positivity," says Allison. "She let me live my life. She never really went out of her way to advise me or critique my life, and I respect her for that." Allison continues by saying "my mother cultivated independence in her children and she encouraged us to always tell the truth." "Honesty and integrity" were essential characteristics for her and her family. As Allison says "she walked the walk." However, as optimistic and lighthearted as she was, she was struggling with an unhappy and difficult husband who was an alcoholic. And as one can expect, the dad's drinking had an effect on the whole family, especially the kids.It wasn't until Allison's mother found Al Anon, the support organization for anyone who's concerned about someone with a drinking problem, that she found her new sense of self esteem. "My mom started standing up to my dad because of all that Al Anon taught her. Eventually, my day had to change. he had to adapt to her self confidence." Sara was a proud member of Al Anon for 35 years.I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Professor Allison and I look forward to continuing our conversation in the near future. Professor Scott Allison has authored numerous books, including Heroes and Heroic Leadership. His other books include Reel Heroes, Conceptions of Leadership, Frontiers in Spiritual Leadership, and the Handbook of Heroism. His work has appeared in USA Today, National Public Radio, the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Slate Magazine, MSNBC, CBS, Psychology Today, and the Christian Science Monitor. Bob Vincent is President of Reel Heroes Media in Dallas, Texas, and serves as the Communications Director for the Airpower Foundation. Bob founded the company in 2008 with a revolutionary online marketing product called VideoPilot360. Bob’s talents are rooted in his unique ability to create valuable relationships and produce high-quality productions. That skill has made him a trusted resource by some of the largest brands and entertainers across the United States, including Rascal Flatts, Gary Sinise, Tony Orlando, Lee Greenwood, Chef Robert Irvine, Billy Ray Cyrus, and Terry Fator, with accolades from corporate giants like Disney, American Airlines, DEKA Research & Development Corporation, MGM Resorts International, and Sears. His compelling and sensitive video productions for the Airpower Foundation, Sky Ball, American Airlines Veterans Initiatives, Snowball Express, The American Fallen Soldiers Project, The Gary Sinise Foundation, and many other organizations, have earned him praise from military family members who benefit from those philanthropies. His videos are credited for helping motivate patriotic Americans to donate millions of dollars in donations to those organizations and inspiring others to volunteer their time to help. One particular video produced by Bob was recently responsible for assisting the Independence Corps Foundation, along with inventor, and DEKA Corp. So many people believe the American Dream is a thing of the past, but here at American Snippets, we know the opposite is true. In fact, we believe there has never been a better time for Americans to find and achieve that dream. Thanks to the men and women who defend this country, the rest of us are free to fulfill our own goals and lives. Many of our guests share this view and today's guest is no different. Bob Vincent is the son of immigrants. His father fled Hungary to avoid capture by the Russians and he made his way to America where he joined the military. Through his parents stories and his own experiences when visiting Hungary, Bob realized from a young age how fortunate Americans are. When his path crossed with one very special Marine, Bob understood the debt we owe our military and his life changed forever. Today, Bob uses his company Reel Heroes Media to share stories of American Heroes and also helps non-profits that are veteran and military focused.
