Pastor claims he miraculously cured a man hospitalized due to voting for DemocratsThe Friendly Atheist, By Hemant Mehta, on September 26, 2024https://www.friendlyatheist.com/p/pastor-claims-he-miraculously-curedI Went to a Pro-Trump Christian Revival. It Completely Changed My Understanding of Jan. 6.Slate Magazine by Molly Olmstead on September 25, 2024https://slate.com/news-and-politics/2024/09/donald-trump-2024-president-election-shooting-christians.htmlIn the first story, a pastor named Robert Henderson claims that a man he knew got sick after voting Democrat. Henderson suggests that the sickness was caused by the man's political choice, implying that changing political affiliations could lead to healing. He promotes the idea that spiritual well-being is directly tied to partisan politics. According to Henderson, this man was cured after switching political sides, making the case that voting Republican could be a remedy for illness. In the second story, another pastor argues that people fulfilling God's divine assignments are protected from death. This pastor uses spiritual rhetoric to blend religious faith with political motives, creating fear among his congregation. By connecting political choices with spiritual consequences, these pastors pressure their followers to conform to a specific political ideology, framing alternative views as morally or spiritually wrong. The conversation explores how religious leaders like these use fear and anecdotal stories to manipulate their congregations. Congregants are often scared into silence, afraid of being ostracized or labeled as evil for holding different political beliefs. This tactic of dehumanizing others by associating them with demonic forces not only justifies harmful actions but also deepens divisions in society.Ultimately, the discussion points out the dangers of such narratives. When religious leaders weaponize spiritual beliefs for political gain, they contribute to societal harm, violence, and division. These manipulative tactics can lead followers down a path of intolerance and misunderstanding, with long-term negative consequences for both individuals and communities. In today's episode, Dahlia Lithwick, the Senior Legal Correspondent for Slate Magazine, discusses President Biden's proposed reforms to the Supreme Court. Lithwick believes that Biden's efforts this time are more meaningful and that it is important to have a conversation about potential changes to the court. She highlights the need for term limits for justices, stating that it would keep ideas fresh and depoliticize the institution. Lithwick also emphasizes the importance of a binding code of conduct for justices, as it would hold them accountable for ethical issues. She mentions that there are bills in Congress to address these issues. However, Biden did not mention increasing the number of justices, which Lithwick believes is outside of what he is willing to support. Bill and Dahlia also briefly touch on ongoing cases involving Stormy Daniels, the January 6th attack on the Capitol, and the documents case. Today Bill highlights the work of The Constitution Accountability Center, preserving the rights and freedoms of all in America and protecting our judiciary. More information at TheUSConstitution.org. The enemies of faith are taking notice: people of faith are standing up for their beliefs and winning back their constitutional freedoms. And they don't like these victories one bit. Because we win, the attorneys and staff at First Liberty along with our brave clients draw a lot of attention… both positive and negative. You see, anti-faith Leftists in the media choose to mischaracterize and misrepresent our work and the people of faith we help. That's why I've asked First Liberty's Chief Legal Office to clear up the misconceptions generated by recent articles like Slate Magazine's “The Religious Right Isn't Hiding What It's Doing in the Courts.”
30 years ago, the Stanley Cup playoffs ignited a rumour that has been messing with Jane Macdougall's life ever since. It was June 14, 1994, and the Vancouver Canucks had made it all the way to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals against the New York Rangers. The Canucks were magic on ice, so when they lost by just one goal, fans expected the team to come back blazing the next year. Instead,1995 was a total letdown. The team seemed to have lost its chemistry and when a popular defenceman was abruptly traded, stories started swirling. The rumour became that the defenceman was having an affair with the goalie's wife, destroying team morale and leaving the franchise flailing. For nearly 30 years, Jane Macdougall (the goalie's now ex-wife) has been dealing with the fallout of that rumour. She says she's harangued about it constantly from all directions—strangers at parties, kids at her son's school, even her accountant—they all have something to say about her “affair”. But not only is the rumour false, it's not even possible. On this week's Storylines, Acey Rowe tracks the Canucks rumour from locker rooms to chat rooms to NHL legends to figure out how a story like this snowballs, how it survived for 30 years, what really happened to the Canucks way back when, and what it is about sports fandom that makes rumours like this so common—because Jane Macdougall is far from alone. Reported and produced by Acey Rowe. Story Editing by Willa Paskin and Evan Chung from the podcast Decoder Ring by Slate Magazine. Storylines is part of the CBC Audio Doc Unit.
Title: "Hunter Biden's Defense Initiates With A Note of Optimism compared to Trump's - An In-depth Analysis"Slate Magazine reports on an ostensibly positive start compared to earlier cases involving high-profile individuals, as Hunter Biden, the son of the incumbent President Joe Biden, finds himself in the midst of ongoing criminal charges. The controversy hails from an alleged falsification on a federal form - the younger Biden stands accused of lying about his widely publicized struggle with drug addiction during a firearms purchase. When compared to the highly publicized defense proceedings involving former President Donald Trump, early analysis reports suggest that Hunter Biden's defense has kicked off in a rather more promising light. This comparison across the political spectrum indicates the constantly fluctuating dynamics of political and legal circumstances at the very heights of American society. The focus on Hunter Biden has not been a sudden development. As the second son of President Joe Biden, his personal crises, especially his acknowledged struggles with substance addiction, have been the subjects of public scrutiny for a noticeable period. The incriminating charges now hinge upon his reportedly dishonest declaration on a federal form when acquiring a firearm, obscuring his battle against his addiction. The impetus of the legal proceedings thus revolves around Hunter Biden's candidness regarding his addiction battles. The law necessitates full honesty and disclosure on federal forms, particularly when it involves firearms and substance abuse. As such, the charges carry significant weight, shedding light on the national discourse about mental health, addiction, and the possession of firearms in the United States.Contrasting Hunter Biden's current predicament to former President Trump's legal quandaries, the start of the latter's defense in his cases witnessed a more demanding and unfavorable public and legal response. While it remains to be seen how the proceedings against Biden will ultimately unfold, as per Slate Magazine's early analysis, his defense seems to have had a softer landing, kicking proceedings off to a more optimistic start. The comparison between the two high-profile figures underlines the constantly evolving nature of the sociopolitical landscape and the importance of the legal uprightness of public figures. As these legal proceedings progress, they will certainly impact not only the individuals involved but could also have far-reaching implications for American politics and society at large. As in all democracies, the accountable rule of law stands resolute and shall certainly provide clarity on these pending charges.
In this episode of "Sharing My Truth," Mel and Suzie delve into a story recently featured in Slate Magazine titled "We Left Our Child With His Grandpa and a Teenage Babysitter. I Wish I Didn't Have to Say the Rest." A they begin discussing the article, shock and disbelief ripple through their conversation. Mel and Suzie are taken aback by the babysitter not thinking about how inappropriate this is. She is at her place of work in a home looking after a child! This is nothing to say of the father-in-law's behavior and not acting like a grownup! They laugh at the situation, but what were they thinking? They are looking after a child; this is not the time or place! The mother is right to be shocked, horrified, and confused about the whole situation. Mel and Suzie are almost speechless. Bread might seem like the boring food, the backdrop for the stuff you put in the sandwich. But actually, in a world of strange foods, bread may be the strangest, most unlikely substance that humans have ever ingested. The story of what bread is and how we came to eat it, is one of alien biology and lost civilizations. It turns out that we only have bread because of a long chain of bizarre and unlikely coincidences. ReferencesArranz-Otaegui, A., Gonzalez Carretero, L., Ramsey, M. N., Fuller, D. Q., & Richter, T. Today we chat with Mark Putnam, a national media strategist and ad maker for over three decades, and founder of the media firm Putnam Partners. His work bridges the political and non-political worlds, serving as one of President Obama's lead ad makers and the lead ad maker for President Biden's "Unite the Country" super PAC, as well as helping elect 11 governors, 10 U.S. senators and dozens of members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Mark has created some of the most talked-about political advertising campaigns of the last decade, including the "Background Checks" TV ad featuring U.S. Senate candidate Jason Kander assembling an AR-15 assault weapon while blindfolded that Politico called "the most memorable ad of 2016." Mark's viral video for congressional candidate and former CIA operative Valerie Plame was likened to a "spy thriller campaign ad" by Slate Magazine. Mark also produced advertising to help elect Doug Jones in the 2017 Alabama special election for U.S. Senate. Mark's advertising for breakout congressional candidate and Internet phenomenon Amy McGrath set the standard for viral political advertising in 2018 - earning millions of YouTube views and sparking dozens of national news stories. Mark's firm also helped elect 16 new members of the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 – more wins than any other Democratic media firm - and helped re-elect 12 incumbents in 2020, ranging from 10 U.S. Representatives, the Governor of North Carolina and the Mayor of Richmond, VA. Mark's highest profile project was creating Barack Obama's 2008 election eve 30-minute television special that aired simultaneously on seven networks and was viewed by over 35 million people. The Washington Post television critic Tom Shales called it "somehow both poetic and practical, spiritual and sensible... a montage of montages, a series of seamlessly blended segments." https://www.putnampartners.net/ https://www.vimeo.com/putnampartners

In the midst of a precarious truce, Amy and Dor ride the waves of a particularly tumultuous week, marked by the terror attack in Jerusalem that morning, heartwarming reunions and the tense, piece-meal release of some hostages. As Hanukkah approaches, they unpack the stark contrasts of violence and poignancy, darkness and light. The hosts delve into recent developments, from the last-minute truce extension that morning to the ongoing release of the hostages and the increasingly ominous tactics employed by Hamas. They shed light on the harsh realities faced by the 136 individuals still in captivity, under conditions that are anything but “reasonable,” contrary to dangerously misinformed conceptions circulating online. Amy scrutinizes the UN Women agency's grossly belated and negligible acknowledgment of sexual violence. With Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, looming on the horizon, Amy presents two readings. One, Christopher Hitchens' critique of celebrating Hanukkah as a triumph of tribal Jewish backwardness in “Bah, Hanukkah,” (2007, Slate Magazine). The other, a touching overnight message from a dear friend, Jerusalem-based artist Judith Margolis. Judith's meditation on moon gazing unveils a delicate dance between caution and luminosity in the roots of the Hebrew words for these terms, offering a profound insight: “The word for light itself urges us to take heed.” Acknowledging the non-linear nature of grief and its cyclical movement, they reflect on hurtling through and navigating its stages—denial, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance. Amy opens up about drawing lines, letting go, and moving forward. Reflecting on evolving views on relationships, she emphasizes the importance of moral clarity as friendships strain and expire. Prioritizing well-being, they stress the need to strike a balance between staying informed and succumbing to information overload. Offering a touch of lighter fare and a reprieve from the relentless news cycle, they explore M-I-A's recent glitchy Instagram ditty and Cynthia Nixon's uniquely timed hunger strike for a ceasefire. Recorded on November 30 (Day 55).Thanks for tuning in!

Today, I am blessed to have here with me Dr. Alexandra Sowa. As the daughter of a hand surgeon, Dr. Alexandra Sowa was exposed to medicine at a young age. She loved how her father could transform people's lives by giving them back the use of their hands. Check out SoWell: https://lddy.no/13m4s Use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off your entire order. In her internal medicine residency, she saw that same sort of transformation for patients who lost weight and drastically improved their health. Once she knew weight loss medicine was a specialization she could pursue, she never considered anything else. Now Dr. Sowa is a board-certified physician of Internal Medicine, specializing in preventive health, nutrition and obesity medicine. Through her New York City practice, she has helped thousands of patients lose weight and live healthier lives. Dr. Sowa also holds an appointment as a Clinical Instructor in Medicine at the New York University School of Medicine. Outside of her practice, she enjoys communicating health messages to the public through print and television. She has published original articles on health-related topics in publications like The Atlantic, NPR, Slate Magazine and the New York Daily News. She has also served as an on-air health expert for national media outlets like Fox News, CBS News, NPR, and The Doctors. Her medical opinions have been featured in print publications, from the New York Times to U.S. News and World Report to Glamour and Parents Magazine. She is a regular weight-loss expert on SiriusXM radio. She is passionate about optimizing health through food. You can often find her making healthy meals (and a mess!) for her husband and two young sons in the kitchen. In this episode, Dr. Sowa talks about how she got involved in the health space and her passion for preventing metabolic dysfunction. Unfortunately, 88% of Americans are metabolically inflexible; however, Dr. Sowa says there are easy ways to reverse that. Plus, Dr. Sowa talks about the importance of data and your optimal markers. Tune in as we chat about supplements, intermittent fasting, and the importance of quality sleep. [00:40] Why Dr. Sowa Got Involved In The Health Space Even before Dr. Sowa went to college, she had discovered the field of public health. Plus, the idea of prevention always was very attractive to her. Sowa always wondered why doctors want to treat the disease if they could prevent it. At college, she really started to understand a holistic view of what it means to be healthy. Eventually, Dr. Sowa realized a lot of problems in health boils down to metabolic dysfunction. [04:40] Why Are 88% of Americans Metabolically Inflexible? So, Dr. Sowa says the solution is actually pretty straightforward. You can reverse type 2 diabetes; again, it is reversible! Many people think a low-carb and high-fat diet will give you a heart attack or a stroke; that's simply not true. The three macronutrients are carbohydrates, protein, and fat. Out of those three macronutrients, carbohydrates will spike glucose and insulin the most. It makes total sense that we should eat more protein and fat to reverse high insulin. [16:45] What Is An Optimal Range For Fasting Insulin? Optimal is usually under five. Even up to eight is okay for fasting insulin. Anything higher than eight means your body is making too much insulin in response to carbohydrates. When Dr. Sowa does bloodwork, she's looking for metabolic syndrome. Plus, Dr. Sowa wants to look for vitamin deficiencies. Learn more about the kits that Dr. Sowa offers here: https://lddy.no/13m4s Use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off your entire order. [20:50] How Often Should Someone Retest Their Markers? You should test once a quarter. If you are embarking on a new lifestyle change, Dr. Sowa says to test right away. That way, you have the data. Once you start eating keto, then you can see what improves. Your markers are a better victory than what you see on the scale. [24:20] How Dr. Sowa Wants To Help People With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome PCOS is a disease of insulin resistance in the majority of cases. For years, the medical community has gone about treating this in the wrong way. Up to 50% of women with PCOS will go on to develop type two diabetes by the time they're 40. Women with PCOS can make themselves feel better by following a low carbohydrate diet. Sowa developed a kit to help women get a diagnosis. It usually takes women five years and three doctors to understand their diagnosis. [28:10] Why Dr. Sowa Is A Big Fan of Intermittent Fasting Fasting will reset your hormones. Plus, fasting is a great way to understand your relationship with food and hunger. Remember, you don't have to eat every two hours. In the beginning, it's not necessarily about eating less; it's just about eating less often. [31:10] Why Dr. Sowa Loves Walking After A Meal Walk after a meal, so your muscles have the ability to take up any glucose. We should be moving right after we eat to take up any free glucose and use it for energy instead of fat storage. Five minutes will make a difference! The sweet spot would be fifteen to twenty minutes. [34:10] How Important Is Quality Sleep Each Night? If you don't get good sleep, sleep, you will be hungry and crave carbohydrates. Good quality and consistent sleep will keep your cortisol levels down. When cortisol spikes from poor sleep, the hunger hormone will also spike. Plus, you will get a spike in insulin. When insulin is high, it will drive hunger. One of the silent epidemics in our country is sleep apnea, where people cannot get good sleep no matter how hard they try. Luckily, Dr. Sowa will screen for sleep apnea. [40:30] The Supplements That Dr. Sowa Recommends Sowa is a fan of her GetSoBalanced supplement. This formula is great for a number of things: Weight management Healthy metabolism Blood sugar regulation Insulin sensitivity Healthy cholesterol levels PCOS symptom relief Gastrointestinal microbial balance Check out GetSoBalanced here: https://lddy.no/13m4s Use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off your entire order. Also, Dr. Sow loves myo-inositol; it is a natural alternative to Metformin. It's great for both men and women. [46:05] What To Do Before You Take A SoWell Test First, chug water! Next, warm up your hands. Run them under warm water and get the circulation going. Sometimes, you have to massage the finger to get blood to come out. Once you prick your finger, trust the process. AND MUCH MORE! Resources from this episode: Check out SoWell: https://lddy.no/13m4s Use ketokamp at checkout for 10% off your entire order. Take a look at a historic photograph of New York from the 1930s and you'll see automats, newsies, elevated trains and men in fedoras. What you won't see -- dozens and dozens of automobiles on the curb.In a city with skyrocketing real estate values, why are most city streets still devoted to free car storage? It's a situation we're all so used to that we don't think twice about it. Whatever happened to the curb?Long-term and overnight parking used to be illegal in the early 20th century. The transition from horse-drawn carriages to gas-powered automobiles transformed neighborhoods like Times Square and reconfigured everyday life on the street. But before the 1920s, parking those glamorous new Model Ts on the street was tolerated only in short-term situations.By the 1940s, however, New Yorkers were simply too reliant on the automobile, and the city's parking lots and garages were simply not adequate. (For many New Yorkers, like Seinfeld's George Costanza, they're still not acceptable).Street parking was de facto legalized with the advent of alternate-side parking rules, and soon parking meters and 'meter maids' were attempting to keep a handle on the chaotic situation.Eventually the car took over. Will it always be this way?In this special episode, Tom and Greg are joined by Slate Magazine writer Henry Grabar, author of Paved Paradise: How Parking Explains The World, who exposes some shocking parking violations and even offers a few couple solutions for the future.Visit the website for more images

Sara, Allison's mother, "was all about lightness, air, love, encouragement and positivity," says Allison. "She let me live my life. She never really went out of her way to advise me or critique my life, and I respect her for that." Allison continues by saying "my mother cultivated independence in her children and she encouraged us to always tell the truth." "Honesty and integrity" were essential characteristics for her and her family. As Allison says "she walked the walk." However, as optimistic and lighthearted as she was, she was struggling with an unhappy and difficult husband who was an alcoholic. And as one can expect, the dad's drinking had an effect on the whole family, especially the kids.It wasn't until Allison's mother found Al Anon, the support organization for anyone who's concerned about someone with a drinking problem, that she found her new sense of self esteem. "My mom started standing up to my dad because of all that Al Anon taught her. Eventually, my day had to change. he had to adapt to her self confidence." Sara was a proud member of Al Anon for 35 years.I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Professor Allison and I look forward to continuing our conversation in the near future. The politics of six day creation establishes the authority and sufficiency of God’s Word for all of life: from what is a man or a woman, when does human life begin, and how is human society best organized? Come hear Ken Ham, Pastor Doug Wilson, Dr. Ben Merkle, Dr. Gordon Wilson, me and more, and of course a live CrossPolitic show! Mark your calendars for October 11th-14th, as we fight, laugh, and feast, with beer & psalms, our amazing lineup of speakers, our Rowdy Christian Merch, and a Sabbath Feast to wrap up the occasion. Maybe an infant baptism while we’re at it! Visit fightlaughfeast.com for more information! Now ladies and gentleman… I have some audio for you to listen to. Listen to this exchange between Elon Musk, and a BBC reporter. A warning… Elon slaughters this “journalist”. Seeing as this is audio, just know I use air quotes when I say journalist. 'You Just Lied': Elon Musk Slaughters BBC Reporter In Live Interview-Play Video That ladies and gentleman, is the state of journalism these days. Now, let’s get to the news: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/farmers-score-victory-biden-admin-judge-pauses-controversial-eco-rules Farmers score victory over Biden admin as judge pauses controversial eco rules A federal judge granted a request Wednesday from a coalition of 24 states and several industry groups to block environmental regulations redefining how water sources are protected. Judge Daniel Hovland of the U.S. District Court for the District of North Dakota ruled that the so-called Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule announced by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in late December poses "great" risks to states. The judge also ruled that the federal government should wait until the Supreme Court soon rules on a related case pending before it. On Dec. 30, the final working day of 2022, the EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers quietly announced they had approved the WOTUS regulation and that it would be implemented in March. After announcing it, EPA Administrator Michael Regan said the rule "safeguards our nation’s waters." The rule ultimately opens the door for the federal government to regulate wetlands, lakes, ponds, streams and "relatively permanent" waterways, largely mimicking a pre-2015 environmental rule set during the Obama administration which implemented the changes in an effort to curb water pollution. The regulation is a broad interpretation of which water sources require protection under the Clean Water Act. However, in its lawsuit filed in February, the 24-state coalition — led by West Virginia, Georgia, Iowa and North Dakota — argued the regulations were an example of federal overreach and an attack on their sovereign authority regulating bodies of water and surrounding land. A series of industry groups — including the American Farm Bureau Federation, American Petroleum Institute, National Association of Realtors, National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, National Corn Growers Association and National Mining Association — also entered the lawsuit as intervenor-plaintiffs. Meanwhile, the Senate and House both passed a bipartisan resolution earlier this year overturning the WOTUS regulation. President Biden vetoed the bill on April 6. https://www.theepochtimes.com/biden-admin-unveils-rule-to-force-67-percent-of-cars-sold-to-be-electric-by-2032_5189758.html?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport US Unveils Toughest-Ever Car Emissions Rule in Bid to Force Surge in EV Purchases President Joe Biden further accelerated the nation’s switch to electric vehicles by announcing two proposed federal rule changes aimed at reducing greenhouse gases and other pollutants in motor vehicle emissions. The changes, announced on April 12, would affect virtually all gasoline-powered vehicles on U.S. highways, save consumers an estimated $12,000 in fuel and maintenance costs over the life of a vehicle, and avoid almost 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide emissions through 2055, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The move aims to further the president’s goal of having 50 percent of all new cars and light trucks and 30 percent of new medium- and heavy-duty trucks sold in 2030 be zero-emission vehicles. Electric vehicles (EVs) are considered zero-emission vehicles. The EPA estimates that approval of these rules would result in 67 percent of new passenger vehicles and light trucks being EVs by 2032, along with 50 percent of buses, 35 percent of short-haul freight tractors, and 25 percent of long-haul freight tractors. Critics have claimed that the move, which will increase the price of new cars, was made without consideration of the ability of the nation’s supply chain to meet the demand. The Biden administration has spent roughly $31 billion on the development of so-called clean transportation over the past two years, including the development of a network of EV charging stations, improving the supply chain for materials needed to produce EV batteries, and making loans to companies that manufacture EVs and EV components in the United States. General Motors, Ford, and Stellantis—the maker of Chrysler, Fiat, Ram, and Jeep brands—stated in 2021 that they would aim to reach EV sales of at least 40 percent of all their new vehicle sales by 2030. The rule change comes 10 months after six major automakers pledged to stop selling gas and diesel-powered cars worldwide by 2040. Speaking of hemoraging money… https://thepoliticalinsider.com/federal-government-borrowing-astronomical-6-billion-per-day/ Federal Government Borrowing Astronomical $6 Billion Per Day The U.S. Congressional Budget Office said Monday the federal government has accumulated more than a trillion dollars in debt only six months into the fiscal year. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget released a report pointing out that those figures amount to an average of $6 billion per day so far in fiscal year 2023. The data figures come as Republicans and Democrats approach a deadline to raise the debt ceiling or face defaulting on the national debt, an unprecedented event that would have huge ramifications for the U.S. and global economy. Republicans have pointed to those figures as proof of the need for spending cuts. President Joe Biden, though, has shown no interest in negotiating. Democrats argue the fiscal deadline is too risky to play with in negotiations. The CRFB said if nothing changes, the annual deficit will hit $3 trillion by the end of this decade. Down to Florida we go… https://www.dailyfetched.com/florida-lawmakers-prepare-to-pass-measure-to-permit-death-penalty-for-pedophiles/ Florida Lawmakers Prepare to Pass Measure to Permit DEATH PENALTY for Pedophiles The House will consider its version of the bill (HB 1297) after (SB 1342) was cleared on Tuesday by the Rules Committee, as it readies for the bill to be presented to the full Senate. For decades, the U.S. Supreme Court and Florida Supreme Court rulings have prohibited the execution of child rapists and sexual abuse cases. The last time someone was executed for a non-murder offense in the U.S. was 1964, according to a Senate staff analysis. However, the House and Senate bills argue that a Florida Supreme Court case in1981 and a U.S. Supreme Court case in 2008 were both “wrongly decided.” The Senate version declared the cases represent an “egregious infringement of the state’s power to punish the most heinous of crimes.” The bill’s sponsor, former prosecutor turned Republican state senator Jonathan Martin, said the legislation would allow for “constitutional boundaries by providing a sentencing procedure for those heinous crimes.” “If an individual rapes an 11-year-old, a 10-year-old, a 2-year-old or a 5-year-old, they should be subject to the death penalty,” Martin said Tuesday. As Red State reports: The legislation inevitably has drawn criticism, with Aaron Wyat of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers pointing out that although people want “vengeance” against pedophiles, the death penalty would represent an overturning of decades of legal precedent. “This bill invites a longer, costlier (legal) process for the victim and their family that they will endure,” Wayt said. “While this crime, anyone convicted of it is vile, heinous, the Constitution itself, the case law, the Supreme Court demands a maximum of life in prison. And so while it’s not the vengeance we all want, it’s the justice that the Constitution demands,” Wayt added. Meanwhile, left-leaning Slate Magazine argued a “sentence of life without parole is a harsh and severe punishment,” even for pedophiles. Despite the media pushback, the bill has attracted support from some Democrats, including Senate Minority Leader Lauren Book, who suffered sexual abuse as a child and founded the advocacy organization Lauren’s Kids. Gov. Ron DeSantis is expected to sign off on this legislation after voicing support for the death penalty for pedophiles. https://www.foxnews.com/politics/trump-sues-michael-cohen-for-500-million Trump sues former attorney Michael Cohen for $500 million Former President Donald Trump is suing his ex-lawyer Michael Cohen for more than $500 million, alleging a breach of his attorney-client relationship, unjust enrichment, and more, Fox News Digital has learned. Trump’s legal team filed the more-than 30-page federal lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida on Wednesday. The lawsuit alleges Cohen breached his attorney-client relationship by "spreading falsehoods" about Trump that were "likely to be embarrassing or detrimental, and partook in other misconduct," while also breaching contractual terms of a confidentiality agreement he signed as a condition of employment with Trump. The lawsuit alleges Cohen spread falsehoods about Trump "with malicious intent and to wholly self-serving ends." The lawsuit details Cohen’s "myriad of public statements, including the publication of two books, a podcast series, and innumerable mainstream media appearances," while ignoring "cease and desist" orders. It claims Cohen has, in recent months, "increased the frequency and hostility of the illicit acts" and "appears to have become emboldened and repeatedly continues to make wrongful and false statements" about Trump through various platforms. The lawsuit comes a week after the former president pleaded not guilty in Manhattan court to 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in New York, related to alleged hush money payments made ahead of the 2016 presidential election. https://www.breitbart.com/sports/2023/04/11/nc-state-senator-moves-to-ban-participation-trophies/ NC State Senator Moves to Ban Participation Trophies Coffee is for closers, and if a state senator in North Carolina has his way, trophies at state-sponsored events will be for winners and winners only. North Carolina State Senator Timothy Moffitt (R) introduced the “Eliminate Participation Trophies Act” on Thursday, known in the legislature as SB 430. If passed, the bill would ban the awarding of trophies to children at state-sponsored athletic events simply for participating in the event. “Youth sports or other youth recreation activities operated under the authority of a local government shall not include awards for participants based solely on their participation in the sport or other activity,” the proposed law states. “Awards provided in connection with the activity, if any, shall be based on identified performance achievements.” Moffitt and the bill’s co-sponsors, Republican Senators Bobby Hanig and Eddie Settle say the bill will apply only to state-sponsored youth events. Though, no ages are listed explicitly in the bill. Many argue that participation trophies aren’t that big of a deal. After all, awarding trophies for merely showing up tends to fade out once kids progress past pee-wees and enter the junior high ranks. However, proponents of laws such as Moffitt’s will point to things like the Colts’ 2014 AFC Finalist Banner: Clearly, the participation trophy culture has made its way past pee-wees. Is it worth passing a law? The North Carolina legislature will soon decide.

Throughout history, pioneers have blazed trails for new ways of life. Lewis, Clark, and Sacajawea headed out west, Thomas Edison lit up our lives, and Rosa Parks showed everyone that it doesn't matter where you sit on the bus. Today's show subject is one of the pioneers of the entertainment world and changed the template of TV forever, Jerry Springer. Love him or hate him, Jerry Springer was must see TV back in the late 90's and early 2000's. Kids rushed home from school to tune in to the latest hair-pulling, clothes-ripping fistfight as parents everywhere cringed once they realized what their kids were watching. With Jerry's past primarily in law and politics, how did the former Mayor of Cincinnati become one of the most hated men on TV? Did he know the impact he would have on society as a whole? Would you try to get Jerry Beads if you went to a taping of the show? We'll dive into all this and more in the Jerry Springer episode of AHC Podcast. “There's nothing more American than baseball and apple pie”… if you throw in today's show subject, you may just have the ultimate American trio. Dolly Parton has been in the music industry for over 50 years and has sold millions and millions of albums. She's worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment and has made a resurgence over the past 10 years or so (probably doesn't hurt to be Miley Cyrus' godmother either). Usually show subjects will have some dirt on them or at least something negative to talk about. Dolly has seemed to dodge the headlines with any nonsense over the years, but is there more to the story of the big-boobed beauty? Check out this rootin' tootin' good time on the latest episode of AHC Podcast. Before I started this podcast, I listened to podcasts. But I had never really thought about all of the jobs that go into making those podcasts possible. In this episode, I speak with Elena Schwartz, a producer for Slate Magazine's daily news podcast "What Next." In college, Elena thought that she might want to go to law school. Much of what she did in college, both academically and extracurricularly, was geared towards examining the intersection of race, class, and the criminal justice system. But during her junior year, she got an itch to do something in the audio-journalism world. She was worried that she was "behind" her peers, but managed to graduate with a temporary role with WGBH. She decided to give herself a year to test out this alternative career path, and now she's been at it for over three years. The Daily Beast reporter who broke the story of Herschel Walker paying for a girlfriend's abortion has provided behind-the-scenes details and thoughts on the case. Politics reporter Roger Sollenberger pointed to the key detail in the cobweb of Walker stories to host Andy Levy on this week's episode of political podcast The New Abnormal: the woman behind the allegations. Speaking of the potential political ramifications for Walker, guest podcast host Josie Duffy Rice, who writes about prisons and prosecution at The Unnamed, told Levy that while the abortion bombshell could swing the vote, it is unlikely to make Republicans switch. Then, Mark Joseph Stern, senior writer at Slate Magazine who covers court and law, describes how the Supreme Court is blowing up Law School too. “The court has become, in many ways, corrupted by the political process and so just delivers these decisions that fall perfectly in line with the platform,” he says.
