The Lord Is a Witness (Part 4): Why Doesn't God?

Life After Sunday

Why does God allow evil to continue? Why does it feel like prayers go unanswered? Why doesn't God do something? These are some of the most honest and painful questions a believer can ask, and they are not new. The people of Israel asked the same thing in the Book of Malachi, and their struggle led them to a dangerous place where they began to question not just God's actions but His character. This message from Malachi 2 and 3 tackles the theological concept known as theodicy, the question of how a good and just God can exist alongside evil and suffering. Rather than offering easy answers, it provides four biblical anchors to hold onto when you are in a season of waiting, confusion, or pain. First, remember who God is. His character does not change based on your circumstances. He is holy, just, all-knowing, and all-loving. What you know about Him is enough to carry you through what you do not understand. Second, remember how God works. God is never early and never late. He is always right on time. Just as Jesus arrived at the tomb of Lazarus with purpose and precision, God's timing in your life is never a mistake. Third, remember what God is doing. Malachi 3 describes God as a refiner sitting close to the fire. He does not walk away while you are in the furnace. He is near, watching, and working. Sometimes God does not remove the fire because He is using it to refine something in you. The goal of that refining is that His image becomes visible in your life. Fourth, remember what God will do. Malachi 3:5 promises that God will come as a swift witness against injustice. Every wrong will be addressed. Every pain will be removed. God has not forgotten, and He is not indifferent. His ultimate answer to the world's deepest questions is Jesus Christ, the messenger of the covenant, who is coming again to make all things right. Whether you are struggling with unanswered prayer, unexplained suffering, or the silence of God, this message offers hope grounded in Scripture. Topics covered include the meaning of theodicy, the story of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego, the refiner's fire in Malachi, trusting God in suffering, and how to wait on God with faith.

What kind of faith do you have? Is it an “only if” faith that trusts God only when life goes the way you hoped? Or an “even if” faith that worships Him no matter the outcome? In Daniel 3, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego face an impossible choice: bow to King Nebuchadnezzar's idol or be thrown into a blazing furnace. Their response has inspired believers for generations: “Our God is able to deliver us… but even if He does not, we will not serve your gods.”This message explores what genuine faith looks like when obedience comes at a cost. God doesn't always rescue us from the fire, but He always promises His presence through it. The greatest gift isn't always deliverance from suffering, but experiencing Christ in the middle of it.Whether you're facing hardship, temptation, uncertainty, or pressure to compromise, this message is a reminder to remain faithful, abide in Christ, and trust that God is worthy of worship regardless of the outcome. May we become people whose faith is built not on circumstances, but on the unchanging character of God.

This powerful exploration of Daniel chapter 3 takes us into the fiery furnace alongside Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—three young men whose unwavering convictions challenge us to examine our own. What makes their story so compelling isn't just their miraculous deliverance, but their willingness to die rather than compromise. The distinction drawn between preferences and convictions cuts to the heart of modern Christianity: preferences change under pressure, but true convictions remain steadfast regardless of circumstances because they're rooted in what God requires of us. Ridgecrest exists to reach the lost, build the believer, and connect the people of God to the mission and purpose of God. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, young men of nobility from the tribe of Judah, had been taken captive when Babylon conquered Israel. They had studied for 3 years in the king's school alongside Daniel; "to these 4 young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and learning" ....to the king they were found superior to all others; "ten times better than all the magicians, and enchanters in his whole kingdom." (1:17, 20) They rose to high levels of government in Babylon, set as administrators over the province of Babylon. As captives in a pagan land, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's ability to trust in God and obedience to worship and serve Him only is remarkable to be sure. The hero of this story is God, who miraculously protected Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego from the king's wrath and punishment of death by fiery furnace. God had been with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, giving them wisdom and courage as they navigated life in Babylon's culture and false religion. It is challenging to trust God and worship Him only when we are surrounded by a culture who neither acknowledges God nor honors our commitment to Him. We may never face such brutal consequences for our loyalty to God, but like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego's we need Jesus to help us cultivate wisdom in navigating our current culture and to grow our trust in and love for Him. Jesus is able to keep us from falling and to present us before His glorious presence without fault and with great joy! To Him be all glory!
