It's News Day Tuesday! Sam breaks down the biggest headlines of the day. First, he runs through updates on the debt ceiling talks and whether Biden will cave, reports on the moral and political corruption of Rudy Giuliani, the release of the Durham report, the US Virgin Island's case against Elon Musk, Erdogan's election repression, the booming rejection of Cop City at Atlanta's recent city council hearing, the swearing in of Brandon Johnson as Chicago Mayor, Minnesota labor legislation, and the IRS' report on their own discrimination, before parsing through the Right-Wing spin on the empty Durham report. Next, Sam and the MR Crew dive into the debt ceiling debate and the leaked news of Democrats playing defense for Kevin McCarthy, and whether it actually foreshadows decent strategy from the Biden camp. Wrapping up, they preview today's special elections in Pennsylvania and tackle the expansive corruption of Rudy Giuliani recently released, from sexual assault to the sale of pardons, and the role of US intelligence. And in the Fun Half: Sam and the MR Crew discuss the ridiculous emphasis on work requirements after decades of their failure, the clear rejection of the multi-million dollar Cop City investment by Atlanta community members, and why the right is still screaming “Laptop!” Josh Hawley talks about his manhood, a Louisville caller dives into the barriers of tackling white supremacy exclusively through class analysis, and Carly from Philadelphia dives into the HD-163 race in Pennsylvania. The crew uncovers some information about Bari Weiss' UATX grift, Ben Shapiro rants about the biology of anthropomorphized beavers on Blue's Clues, Marily from Tucson dives into the threat to one's life that is being jailed in America, and Maya from Grand Rapids discusses the role of COVID funds moving forwards. BrownTown reflects on the 2023 Chicago municipal elections and the importance of disrupting dominant media narratives with Morgan Elise Johnson, filmmaker, publisher, and co-creator of the TRiiBE, an award-winning digital publication and production company dedicated to reshaping the narrative of Black Chicago.Local, community, and especially radical and movement-based actors in radio, film, podcasts, and documentation have greatly disrupted the broader media landscape in the past decade for the better. BrownTown and Morgan discuss all the things from her presence on the WGN run-off election panel, the history and spectacle of political punditry, the real meaning of "tough on crime" rhetoric and what it obscures, to the harmful journalistic myth of objectivity and the violent status quo it upholds. How do we use these mediums, skills, experiences, and analyses to challenge the false/misinformed dominant narratives and uplift radical politics while continuing to access mass audiences in the ever-changing, fast-paced digital ecosystem? Here's their take. Originally recorded April 27, 2023.GUESTMorgan (she/her) is an independent filmmaker and publisher based in Chicago who is creating and preserving Black history. She also associate produced a Virtual Reality exploration of abortion clinic harassment called Across The Line (2016) which premiered at Sundance Film Festival's New Frontiers exhibit. Her life and career evolved when she co-created The TRiiBE in 2018. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (04/20/2023): 3:05pm- On Thursday, the House of Representatives advanced legislation that would prevent biological males from competing in women's sports. Ari Blaff of National Review writes, “[t]he House measure seeks to amend federal law so that ‘sex shall be recognized based solely on a person's reproductive biology and genetics at birth,' in order to determine Title IX athletics compliance. Title IX mandates that institutions that receive public funding from the federal government cannot discriminate on the basis of sex.” The bill passed along partisan lines—"with 219 Republicans voting in favor and 203 Democrats voting against.” You can read more here: https://www.nationalreview.com/news/zero-house-democrats-vote-to-protect-womens-sports-from-male-intrusion/ 3:10pm- While appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher, Rep. Mr. Taibbi was told in a call with the agent that both his 2018 and 2021 tax returns had been rejected…the curious timing of this visit, on the heels of the FTC demand that Twitter turn over names of journalists, raises questions about potential intimidation.” On Wednesday, Sen. Hello from a 90-degree day in New York! This week, we're joined by Alex Han, executive director of In These Times and a longtime organizer based in Chicago. Alex previously worked for Bernie's 2020 campaign and SEIU Healthcare Illinois and Indiana. We get into the context behind the surprise mayoral win by former teacher and organizer Brandon Johnson, over “corporate reformer” Paul Vallas. We discuss [15:45] the values (neoliberal versus progressive) at stake in this race, [25:08] which strategies can, and can't, be reproduced by other candidates, and [1:01:30] the role of left-labor publications like In These Times in counteracting corporate media. In this episode, we ask: What made the Chicago Teachers Union become such a central player in city politics? How has “defund the police” evolved, rhetorically, on the left? How do you build a coalition that's led by progressives but populated by centrists? Joy Reid leads this episode of The ReidOut with the current state of chaos and confusion for women across the country spurred by a single judge's decision to invalidate the FDA's 23-year-old approval of one of the principal drugs used for abortions – mifepristone. We also expose the hypocrisy and extra-loud dog-whistling by Republicans and what it really means when they call Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg and others "Soros-backed." Plus, we are learning a lot of very interesting things about Cameron Sexton, the Tennessee House speaker who subjected his state to national ridicule over the expulsion of two young, Black legislators, including reporting that he might not even live in the district he represents. Finally, Chicago Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson joins Joy on successfully pitching President Biden to host the 2024 Democratic National Convention. All this and more in this edition of The ReidOut on MSNBC.
The Good News in the violent, demonics “trans” assaults on women and the special status given black insurrectionists. This is Brave & Stunning in 2023: “Peaceful” Red Guards “peacefully” beat and kidnap a woman but it's okay because “trans” (warning, language at the link!) Riley Gaines, a former elite swimmer who watched her friends and competitors have their medals stolen by a mentally ill man, has become a strange type of women's right's advocate. Why strange? Because, in the spiritually captured world of 2023, Riley Gaines takes the position that women exist. For saying so at San Francisco State University, a group of so-called “trans” people and their allies--their Red Guards or Khmer Rouge--assaulted, held her against her will and demanded payment to release her . . . while the police stood by and watched. The University bosses THANKED the ‘'students.” So magic is the meaningless, made-up word “trans” that men publicly beating women is suddenly okay in the eyes of the spiritual captives. So, where is the good news in this? It comes from John 11, when God used a corrupt, religious technocrat named Caiphus to conquer death and sin. I think God is using the clear demonic spasms in cases like this to once again have the evil cause a great revival. Across the Country, three legislators shut-down discussion and debate in the “people's house”, the exact action that has landed hundreds of people into federal custody for Jan 6 -- even people who simply walked through a lobby. In this case, Kammi Harris was sent to Tennessee to pretend to be a free speech proponentand to thank the black legislators who put their black bodies in to black action to save black children from black guns . . . in other words, to race-bait just weeks after a woman who demanded she be called a man murdered people in the same State. Kammi, by the way, didn't visit the families of the murdered people. It's spiritual blindness and it has a cure, the very best cure, the only permanent cure. What does God say? John 11: 47-5347 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin.“What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many signs. 48 If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our temple and our nation.”49 Then one of them, named Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, spoke up, “You know nothing at all! 50 You do not realize that it is better for you that one man die for the people than that the whole nation perish.”51 He did not say this on his own, but as high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus would die for the Jewish nation, 52 and not only for that nation but also for the scattered children of God, to bring them together and make them one. 53 So from that day on they plotted to take his life. Brave Women's Rights Advocate @Riley_Gaines_ details the terrifying ordeal she faced after being punched and held hostage for 3 hours by Trans Activists simply for speaking up about the need to protect women in sportSo-called “transgender” activists holding @Riley_Gaines_ hostage demanded money in exchange for her safe passage off of the San Francisco State University.Women's Swimming Star @Riley_Gaines_ has been violently assaulted by so-called “TRANS” Activists while giving a speech on women's sports at San Francisco State University. A so-called “Transgender ‘Male,'” wearing a dress, punched Riley repeatedly while the so-called “trans” mob chased and harassed her until she was forced to take shelter in a locked room. All because she was speaking about women's rights. SFSU Responds to Alleged Assault on Riley Gaines . . . By Praising the ProtestersNew Chicago mayor Brandon Johnson blames the city's poverty and crime on corporations not paying enough taxes. Chicago gets everything it deserves with this one. Voters had a chance, and they said, "Hey, let's get someone even crazier than Lori Lightfoot."Kamala yelling in Tennessee: "You don't silence people! You don't stifle people!”Would love to hear Justin Jones' opposition to the Trump arrest just 2 days ago. Surely he was as vocal about democracy, then, yes?As revenge for Democrats @brotherjones_ & @Justinjpearson being expelled from the Tennessee House for leading a direct action to shut down official proceedings in the state capitol, leftists on social media are urging arson attacks across the state. One of the people inciting violence is UNC Charlotte associate professor Anita Blanchard. There has been no House members who have ever been expelled for exercising their first amendment right to peaceful protest. This is a first in American history. And we are losing our democracy to white supremacy. We are losing our democracy to patriarchy.https://4patriots.comStock up on 4Patriots Survival Food Kits. It's Casual Friday! Emma hosts Alex Pareene, Contributing Editor at the New Republic and proprietor of the AP newsletter on Substack, to round up a CRAZY week in news. Then, Emma's joined by writer Jacob Silverman! First, Emma runs through updates on the threats to trans rights from the Supreme Court and Joe Biden, respectively, AOC on the impeachment of Clarence Thomas, Israel's attacks on Palestinians observing Ramadan, a death row conviction being vacated, unemployment increases, and the outrageous $15 donation from the Judge in Trump's NYC case, before parsing through the ousting of Justine Pearson and Justin Jones from the Tennessee statehouse for attempting to have a voice. Alex Pareene then joins as he and Emma walk through Donald Trump's ongoing case in New York, the charges he's facing, the impact it will (or won't) have on the 2024 election, and why it reinforces his desire to regain the presidency. They also tackle this week's results in Wisconsin's special elections, and Scott Walker perfectly represents the GOP's open warfare on the priorities and rights of young people, before they wrap up the interview by assessing Brandon Johnson's victory in Chicago and what urban progressives can learn from it. Jacob Silverman also walks through the collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried's FTX, and what it tells us about the worlds of crypto and Big Tech writ large, before he and Emma dive into Matt Taibbi's recent evisceration at the hands of Mehdi Hasan, and the absurdity of being a journalist that gets countless facts wrong and refuses to be critical with their sources. And in the Fun Half: Emma and Bradley dive into AOC's statements on Clarence Thomas' corruption, and how Congress will move forwards, Fox ignites a brand new culture war: now in Two-Ply! They also touch on the coverage of Israel's attacks on Al Aqsa mosque, plus, your IMs! Tuesday was quite the day in American politics. Former President Donald Trump was arraigned in Manhattan and pleaded not guilty to 34 charges of falsifying business records in the first degree. It was also Election Day in one of the country's purplest states and its third-largest city. In Wisconsin, voters chose the liberal state Supreme Court candidate Janet Protasiewicz by a double-digit margin, flipping the ideological orientation of the court. And in Chicago, voters chose progressive Brandon Johnson as their next mayor in a very close race, ultimately rejecting the tough-on-crime alternative. The crew covers it all in this installment of the FiveThirtyEight Politics podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
