Two years ago, Shane McElrath was battling Chase Sexton for a 250SX Regional Championship. Today, Sexton is a bright shining star in the sport with multiple 450 wins and championship potential of the highest order. McElrath, meanwhile, has been battling just to get a ride, anywhere. He missed most of the '21 season with a back injury, riding for SmarTop/Bullfrog Spas MotoConcepts Honda. Then he ended up on four different teams in 2022, including one that folded, two fill-in rides, and then a a shot at building a team with Rick Ware Racing for the new World Supercross Championship. It was thrown together quickly, but Shane emerged with the SX2 Championship. Now, finally, he thinks he has some stability for the future, and a chance to show what he can do. Max Anstie found himself in a tough spot a few months ago. Supercross was a bit of a mess for the likable Brit, as crashes and injuries forced him to miss multiple rounds, but all of that seemed insignificant when BBMX released much of their staff, including Anstie, mid-season. Getting hired as fill-in for a factory team became the immediate goal for Anstie, though that too proved to be a challenge, as former co-workers Joey Savatgy and Shane McElrath were going after the same gigs Monster Energy Kawasaki and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing. Thankfully, things turned positive after Anstie talked to Martin Davalos, and soon the two charted a plan to join the Fire Power Honda team, line up for select rounds of Pro Motocross, and then commit to being a 250 Class rider in 2023. Anstie is one of the best interviews in the pits, and for an hour, he eloquently explained what it's like to join a new team, where the idea to drop to the small-bore bike class came from, and why most pros don't have a motorcycle of their own.

Why did Ryan Dungey come back? How are Eli Tomac, Dylan Ferrandis, and Ken Roczen feeling? Many, many questions were asked and answered during the preseason media conference for the 2022 Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship, hosted by Jason Weigandt. The riders included 250 Class contenders Jett Lawrence, Hunter Lawrence, RJ Hampshire, Jo Shimoda, Michael Mosiman, Max Vohland, and Derek Drake, and the 450 riders consisted of Dylan Ferrandis, Eli Tomac, Ryan Dungey, Tony Cairoli, Ken Roczen, Shane McElrath, Aaron Plessinger, and Brandon Hartranft.
