Vse se laže preboli kot krivico. Odpustiti povzročeno zlo pomeni spravo, odpuščanje. To svetopisemsko stališče je prastaro, a težko uresničljivo. Tudi nam povzroča težave. Meni omenjanje sprave v zaporedju vrine v spomin tri dogodke. Vojna. Vsak večer zagrnjena okna. Strel v gluho noč. Zjutraj leži v sadovnjaku mrtev človek. Partizan, ki se je bil vračal od tam, kamor je bil poslan kot »terenska zveza«. Ni padel pod okupatorjevim strelom, kar daje misliti. Francetov France ga je na hitro pokopal ob jablano. Ni se razvedelo. Pokojnik ima svoje spominsko obeležje. Na njem je zapisan kot Nace, a da je bilo njegovo pravo partizansko ime Cene. Čudna pomota. Še ista vojna. Blizu hiše straži nemški vojak. Zelo mlad človek. K sebi vabi kodrolasega dečka: Komm her, Pöblein. Komm! (= deček, pridi sem; pridi!). Otrok zbeži k hišnim vratom. Vojak povesi glavo. Ta človek zagotovo ni moril. Vzet je bil družini in poslan na bojni ples. S kom naj se spravi, če še živi? Po vojni. Nenadoma zmanjka nekaj ljudi. Včeraj je mizar Jože še bil, naslednji dan ni prišel v delavnico. Ni ga bilo nikoli nikamor več. »Pa tak funkcionar je njegov brat,« so se nekateri čudili, drugi pa namigovali. Na nobeni spominski plošči ni njegovega imena. Trije dogodki iz zgodovinskega časa, ki se dotikajo moje kože. Kaj pa vsi drugi, zdaj že znani, in vsi neznani na obeh straneh ideološke črte! Sprava. Ta je doma na sredi srca, sicer je prevečkrat le bolj ali manj bobneča beseda. Spravni spomeniki pa so opomniki. Eden je komaj dovolj. »Pa se ne moreta spravit,« so kdaj modrovali starejši ljudje na račun sovaščanov, ki sta se bodla zaradi drevesa, posekanega na meji, in jih »tud sodnija ne more poglihat«, so rekli. Stara zaveza pozna spravne darove, navadno živali. A ne samo teh; modri Sirah pravi: »Gospodu po volji je odstopiti od hudobije, sprava je odstopiti od krivice.« Nobenega zaklanega vola, ampak - odpuščanje. Pa pravimo: tudi če bi odpustil, ne bi mogel pozabiti. Saj ravno spominjati se je treba, da ne bi ponavljali znanih grozot. Svet se razpenja čez Vzhod in Zahod, Sever in Jug. Kar niso le strani neba, so pomenljiv obraz današnjega sveta.
