L'Afrique du Sud passe à la vitesse supérieure sur l'exportation de son manganèse. C'est le premier fournisseur mondial de ce minerai, essentiel pour la sidérurgie, notamment pour traiter et renforcer l'acier. Et il y a quelques jours, le consortium des producteurs de manganèse sud-africains a annoncé son intention de s'associer à la construction d'un nouveau gigantesque terminal d'exportation. Le terminal portuaire aura une capacité d'exportation de 16 millions de tonnes de manganèse par an et devrait améliorer la logistique, aujourd'hui talon d'Achille du réseau portuaire sud-africain. Transnet, l'opérateur public des ports et chemins de fer, noue d'ailleurs des partenariats stratégiques pour régler ces problèmes d'efficacité logistique. Le dernier en date remonte à février avec Anvers-Bruges, le deuxième port européen. Actuellement, le plus important terminal de manganèse en vrac du pays est à Gqeberha, anciennement Port Elizabeth, sur la côte sud-est. Il traite environ 5,5 millions de tonnes par an, mais il doit être démantelé. La raison : trop de nuisances environnementales et sanitaires liées aux poussières de minerai dispersées par le vent depuis les stocks à ciel ouvert. Un projet mené par Transnet avec l'appui de groupes privés C'est donc à une vingtaine de kilomètres du port de Ngqura que devrait se construire ce nouveau terminal trois fois plus grand. L'opérateur public de fret ferroviaire et portuaire lancera un appel d'offres en avril pour ce terminal d'exportation. Longtemps confronté à des problèmes de gouvernance et de corruption, Transnet ouvre certaines parties de son réseau aux entreprises privées. Avec toujours cet objectif de restaurer ses capacités qui ont fortement diminué ces dernières années et qui ont freiné les exportations de minerais. C'est particulièrement le cas du fer. L'Afrique du Sud a d'ailleurs perdu sa place de troisième exportateur mondial au profit du Canada, il y a deux ans.  Le manganèse est un minerai stratégique pour l'Afrique du Sud Ce minerai est un pilier important du commerce extérieur sud-africain. Le pays représente à lui seul environ 40% des exportations mondiales. L'année dernière, l'Afrique du Sud a même atteint un niveau record d'exportations, avec près de 26 millions de tonnes de minerai de manganèse expédiées à l'étranger, selon les estimations de la principale organisation professionnelle du secteur minier du pays. Sylane's Keelyn Mangan is the IABA National Intermediate 60kg boxing champion following a split decision victory over Corpus Christi's Ella McDonald at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday (29th November 2025). It was the second big bout for the Celtic Eagles boxer after she had a unanimous decision win over Emerald's Catriona Moore the previous evening. The result is a reward for the hard work and sacrifice put in by Keelyn, who'd lost three national semi-finals in previous years but has been showing signs of a change in fortune in 2025. On her way home, National champion Keelyn Mangan and her coach Pawel Popko popped into studio on 'Saturday Sport' to chat to Galway Bay FM's Darren Kelly.
