Matt Loszak is CEO and co-founder of Aalo Atomics, a startup designing 50-megawatt nuclear power plants made of pods of five 10-megawatt reactors each, targeting the data center market. Inspired by the MARVEL test reactor that his CTO Yasir Arafat led at Idaho National Lab, Aalo pursues parallel DOE and NRC pathways, betting that factory-built, pad-ready nuclear plants can slash cost, schedule, and grid-interconnection delays. Now 45 teammates strong and raising a Series B, Aalo aims to break ground on its first plant within 12 months and go critical the year after, powering the AI era with compact, clean, always-on fission. In this episode, we cover: [02:31] From SaaS to fission: Matt's founder journey[07:08] Yasir's path and the Marvel reactor at INL[08:56] How national labs help launch commercial nuclear[12:12] Aalo's dual regulatory path: DOE + NRC[13:45] Why Aalo is building reactors for data centers[17:19] Designing for mass manufacturing, not megaprojects[21:50] Security differences across nuclear facility types[25:03] Fuel and enrichment: what Aalo had to consider[28:02] Switching to LEU+ for supply chain resilience[31:04] Comparing XMRs, SMRs, and micro‑reactors[33:25] Inside the Aalo Pod: 5 x 10MW modules with built-in redundancy[37:15] Regulatory updates on NRC civilian licensing[38:43] Nuclear + AI: mutually transformative technologies[41:35] Hiring at Aalo: who they need nextEpisode recorded on April 23, 2025 (Published on May 19, 2025) Enjoyed this episode? We have to start today's show discussing the fantastic performance of Min Woo Lee at the weekend, it was wonderful to see, albeit a nerve-wracking finish with Scheffler coming hard at him. Nick and Mark have plenty of praise for Min Woo of course, and plenty of props for his caddy Brian 'Bo' Martin who they give credit to for remaining calm under the pressure on that final day in particular. Nick and Mark say that is the benefit of a great caddy and that Bo is a 'superstar'.Nick tells a story about ignoring his caddy and doing something that he said he would never do on the 15th hole at Augusta, and tells Mark that Min Woo originally was not going to play in Houston at the weekend...phew! Mark comments on Gary Woodland's performance only 18-months after undergoing brain surgery.Nick and Mark have conducted what Mark calls a '60-minutes style' investigation into the international feed and has some disappointing news, but notes that if that is what is provided for The Masters, reaction will go 'nuclear', and that this is what happens when you 'listen to people'.An Australian Open update. Mark has heard that their are some significant financial challenges, he explains what they are, and says that 'James Sutherland needs to call Greg Norman immediately' to set up a meeting with Yasir.Mark's Top 5 today and he talks through his Top 5 'Seve Chips on the final hole' of all time. It's a ripper with some great audio clips, and vision if you're watching on YouTube. And in the PING Global results we chat with trumpeter Anthony, who works in the pro shop at Woodlands Golf Club in Melbourne and is a pretty handy trumpeter - he plays trumpet off a 3-handicap. Is he any good? We find out live on the pod! After that Nick runs us through a huge week of results, with two big Aussie winners this weekend in Min Woo Lee and Steve Allan, we hear some audio of Steve, and Nick and Mark rave about him as a bloke and a golfer. A hugely popular win.Feedback - more on the international feed, we can't possibly read it all, the pod would go 5-hours, but we touch on a couple, and a few comments on Mark's Monty story from last week including a wolf packer who asks Mark about the rumour that Monty kicked Marks ball off the tee at Huntingdale is true or not.....Mark tells the story.Ripper masterclass from Nick today where he talks us through Min Woo's putt off the final green and what we can learn from it.We do the show from Titleist and FootJoy HQ, thanks to our great partners:Titleist, the #1 ball in golf;FootJoy, the #1 shoe and glove in golf;PING will help you play your best. Al Fadi and Dr Jay Smith continue their discussion about the interview that Muhammad Hijab had with Dr Yasi Qadi about the Quran preservation. Al and Dr Jay mention that most Muslims especially in the East do not cross the line of questioning the Quran. Dr Yasir Qadi had a crisis of faith "knowledge" when he went to Yale university. The interview caused a lot of Muslims to doubt and leave Islam. They also talked about Dr Brubaker's work on the early Quranic manuscript in his book" Corrections in Early Quranic Manuscripts" . In his work Dr Brubaker researched and found over 800 - 4,000 differences between the Hafs Quran of today and the early manuscripts. These corrections was made to fit the Hafs Quran of today. This research had a very damaging result to the belief that the Quran is perfectly preserved.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In his last days, knowing death was imminent, Prophet Muhammad called his uncle Abbas and Imam Ali. He asked his uncle to carry out his will and settle his affairs after the prophet's death. When the uncle demured, the prophet asked Imam Ali, who accepted. The Prophet also gave Imam Ali his sword, battle gear, and ring.Three days before his passing, the prophet went to the masjid and asked if anyone had a grievance against him, and offered to let them seek retribution. A man stepped forth saying that the prophet had accidentally hit him on the stomach once. The prophet said he could seek whatever retribution eh wanted. The man asked the prophet to remove his shirt and then kissed the prophet on his stomach. At one point Ammar bin Yasir asked the Prophet how his ghusul and burial should be conducted, and the propeht replied that it would be done by "Ali ibn Abi Talib, for no part of my body will he touch without the angels aiding him in doing so"Another time, when the prophet was weak, he woke up from sleep and asked for "my brother and companion." Aisha said to summon Abu Bakr, when when the prophet woke up again saw him sitting there he turned away from the man. After Abu Bakr's departure the prophet again asked for "my brother and companion." Usman's daughter Umm Salma had Usman summoned, yet he received the same treatment fromt the prophet. When the prophet called for "my brother and companion" a third time, Imam Ali was summoned and the Prophet spoke to him privately for a long time. When asked what they spoke about, Imam Ali replied "He taught me a thousand doors (of knowledge) and each door opens a thousand more. He also entrusted me with responsibilities that, God willing, I will fulfil"Lecture notes available at http://www.why-quran.org/?p=800.Subscribe at http://www.why-quran.org/subscribe to watch the lectures live and participate in the Q&A at the end of each class.Video recording of this lecture + Q&A available on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ojs3bdeq37o&list=PLpkB0iwLgfTat-Pgh4W3WFmupPamiC9UT.

Mark calls the Australian Open date 'poison' for the tournament and says it has to change. We chat about Tigers tournament, which Mark says is less about results, and more about Tiger. We chat about getting the legendary Ian Baker-Finch on the pod to outline his masterplan for Australian golf. How it will look over the next decade, how to get more Aussies on the DP World Tour, and Mark reckons IBF could pick up the phone and call Yasir at The PIF and get things done.Nick talks about the 23 page memo that the PAC have sent to members re: proposed 2026 changes, one proposed change Nick and Mark are blown away by, which has to do with pace of play. We discuss the proposal to move from 125 to 100 players, and Mark believes that we will lose some 'poster boys' if that change goes through.A great win by Phoenix Campbell over Jak Carter in Queensland at the weekend in a playoff, the tournament was a cracker and Nick and Mark saw it all as they were commenting on Kayo, and discuss the playoff and how it went. They raise a ruling about relief for Phoenix on the 9th hole which they believe the rules official got wrong, so we call our rules guy Stu McPhee to explain the rule. Stu hadn't seen the incident itself, so can't comment on that, but he does explain to us how the rule is applied.Last week Mark predicted 65, Nick 69, for themselves in the Box Hill ProAm. What went wrong? We discuss. And we have a chat to the Director of Golf at the Warragul Country Club, Heath Jones, about their fantastic junior program. It should be replicated, it's wonderful and getting results.A hilarious Top 5 from Nick today - the Top 5 moments from Q School. We're scattered all over the place today. Nick is at home in his daughter's bedroom, Mark is at 3AW in Melbourne, and Dan is in Wollongong. The wonders of technology, but the nature of it is that the pod does sound a touch different.But....Mark has come in all excited, he has a new putter that he bought on eBay, and he is showing it off and tells us the backstory. Leads to a chat about Nick and Marks putting techniques - and Mark reckons you should 'roll' putts, not 'hit' putts. Big news as well, Mark is like a kid in a candy shop ... he is off on Wednesday night to play Tara Iti, his dream course! Nick gives him some tips.Mark tells Nick about seeing what he calls the 'craziest decision from a golfer he has seen in his life' this week. He explains. Nick is in vigorous agreement. It has to do with the Asia-Pacific Amateur Champion Wenyi Deng. Nick explains why he turned down a chance to play Augusta early in his career, and reminds Mark of the one chance he had to play it but skipped it to go to a party. Ouch.Mark thinks that the PIF boss Yasir Al-Rumayyan and Jay Monahan are appearing to break bread, saying that they are getting very cosy at the moment. Is something happening? Are discussions progressing? And if the Grand Prix of golf gets up, how could the Australian leg look? Nick and Mark discuss, and Mark gives his idea to create an Amateur Sandbelt Classic. And just before the turn, we put a question to Nick O'Hern from pod Wolfpack member Nick about his 2005 Dunhill playing partner. Another ripping story from Nick O'Hern. Speaking of Nicks playing partners, he names the Top 5 celebs that he has played with, who he has not told us about before. The Top 5 for the great team at Southern Golf Club. Into feedback, for Flinders Golf Club, plenty of it, and we discover Nick has never seen the Ned Flanders Leftorium episode of The Simpsons. It's a beefy Friday episode, as Brendan is joined by Mr. Tron Carter of No Laying Up to discuss topics from across the world of sports. The show begins with Brendan picking Ball Knower Tron's brain about his various football teams, with the two going back and forth about the state of the Falcons, Jaguars, Commanders, and Boston College, before transitioning into a discussion about the potential for private equity to invest in college football like it has with golf. This then leads the two to the big golf news of the week, Jay Monahan and Yasir Al-Rumayyan's pairing at the Dunhill Links. Brendan and Tron recap Thursday's round for the two, Rory McIlroy's comments about a PGA Tour-PIF deal being wrapped up by year's end, and Matt Fitzpatrick's quotes about his belief that the DP World Tour should not have strategically partnered with the PGA Tour. With plenty of LIV players in the field at the Dunhill, Brendan then presents Patrick Reed's latest musings, a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that Reed believes describes himself. From there, it's a whiparound through the rest of the schedule, touching on 71-year-old Reed Hughes' participation in the Sanderson, the Thursday round of the KFT Finals, and Tron's apathy toward the Champs Tour, much to the dismay of Producer PJ. To wrap things up, Brendan and Tron get into some unsubstantiated rumors before answering a few Golf Advice emails, offering help on "golf penance," a round with Ian Poulter, and some parenting issues.

Then they get to the news that PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Saudi PIF's Yasir Al-Rumayyan are playing together in the Dunhill this week alongside their pro partners, Billy Boy and Mean Dean. This leads to a lengthy digression on the ability to get a deal done on the golf course, as well as an exploration on some of the many other amateur/celebrity names in the field. Then they get to some minutiae on the Furyk and Friends Champions Tour weekend. The Sanderson marks the return of Cutthroat Corner, as well as a chat on Monday Q's report about the reduction of fields and cards memo that was sent out. They close with a discussion on the KFT Championship at French Lick, who is in, who is out, and where cards are on the line and some argue it is the purest moment in sports. As they try to leave, Brendan pans the notion of a 5-part documentary series on the Ballfrogs.
