The “day people” may make the rules, but it doesn't mean ZG Smith is going to follow them… although you probably could have guessed that from his t-shirt collection. If his name sounds familiar, it might be because of one of the other Zack Smiths that come up in your search results. Or it may be because a song from the former Smooth Hound Smith frontman's debut solo EP, Nighttime Animal, is still stuck in your head. The LA-born, Nashville-based singer-songwriter sits down with Drew to discuss his transition to a solo career and the sounds that inspired the EP - and you can't go wrong with a few good tour stories! Stick around after the interview as Erin joins Drew to discuss their thoughts on the Nighttime Animal music video.
L’Shanah tovah! Let’s dig deep into an extra-large episode of blues, punk, rock, pop, and country music. Why is it longer? Because I can! Also, some good news! Don’t forget to back the Rainbow Rodeo Kickstarter! Album of the Week: Daniel Romano -- How Ill Thy World Is Ordered This is a stunning album, with dense prophetic lyrics. Romano’s delivery is eerie and damning, songs that speak truth to power with Dylan-esque poetry -- but none of his vagaries. This album has genuine power, an electrifying energy that will send chills up your arms. And it’s Romano’s 10th of the year. Clearly he’s not running out of steam. An absolutely classic MCR from July of 2015. This memorable night featured Nashville's deepest electric blues and one of the nation's most important new acoustic folk duos. The former is legendary guitarist and songwriter - icon of the Bluebird Cafe - Mike Henderson, with new music. The latter is the Woodstock NY power couple Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams. Also on the bill, we'll hear head turning juke joint funk from his and her duo Smooth Hound Smith. Plus the remarkable voice and complex torch songs of breakout artist Emily West. Peter Cooper's the guest host.

The power duo has met its match in Nashville’s Smooth Hound Smith. The duo consisting of guitarist/multi-instrumentalist Zack Smith and singer/percussionist Caitlin Doyle makes a righteous noise with a boot-stompin’, tear-in-your-beer fervor that earned them a spot opening for the Dixie Chicks last summer. Drawing comparisons to everyone from fellow power duos the White Stripes and Shovels & Rope to Little Big Town and Jack Johnson, Smooth Hound Smith credit the eclectic musical soundtrack of their youths for the genesis of their unique approach.
