After over fifteen years of making and releasing music, Austin's David Ramirez considered hanging up his music career, but he rescinded that notion following the outcry from his fans and a prolonged tenure of soul searching. Every pastor or father who takes teaching the Bible seriously will eventually encounter difficult questions on tough topics. When this happens, we should be ready and lean into them not run away from them. In this series, we'll be looking at a framework for discussing these topics and walking through how best to answer them by 1) defining what it is and isn't, 2) how is it bad, 3) how is it good, 4) what are the counterexamples, 5) how is it applied (ratcheting). Zachary Scott Kline came into my consciousness thanks to an email from Nashville songwriter, Henry Conlon, a former guest on my Tasty Brew Music Radio Show and Podcast. Zachary's power trio that included Ray Akers on bass and Sam Hatfield on drums was coming to the Heartland including playing a show in Lawrence. It was a great honor to host what I believe to be Zachary's debut radio interview and performance. Zachary found his way to Americana via competitive football and the San Francisco punk scene. Apparently there is an inside joke that when they turn 30, punk rockers put a cowboy hat on and mutate into something completely different. Really? I duly note Zachary counts John Prine, Blaze Foley, Ryan Bingham, David Ramirez and Jason Isbell as strong influences. Well done. I find Zachary's songcrafting sincere and his lyricism and turn of phrase compelling. Zachary…keep working on that website...the music loving public at large needs to find you with ease. Enjoy the debut radio performance and interview of Zachary Scott Kline.

#53: Realism: The Religious Sense In this episode, Giuli, Adrianna, and Sofi talk about “realism,” a concept from Luigi Giussani's book The Religious Sense. We are joined by a special guest, Sofi and Giuli's father Paolo! If you're following along with the text, we're on Chapter 1. // Our media recommendation is the film The Truman Show. And the monthly challenge is to ask yourself why you live the vocation you live. If you are married, why do you stay with your spouse? If you are consecrated, why do you give your life completely to God? For everyone, why do you try to follow Christ? Why do you go to work? Why do you belong to your communities? // Other resources we mention: - David Ramirez's song “The Bad Days” - Julian of Norwich's revelations or “Showings” // Our theme music is Nich Lampson's “Dolphin Kicks.” We are part of the Spoke Street media network: check it out at www.spokestreet.com.
In this week's episode, we are joined by Brady Mclean of Go Fast Don't Die. Brady thought his life had essentially come to an end at age 28 after going through a divorce. This experience deeply shook Brady and forced him to reconsider his life's story and take stock of whether or not it was one he was proud to tell. One of the things that rose from the ashes of this time in his life was Go Fast Don't Die. Put simply, Go Fast Don't Die is a motorcycle brand that encourages those who don't think they fit into the motorcycle scene, or any other scene for that matter, to find instead their community where they do fit in or make their own. It embraces the idea that the best communities, scenes, tribes, or groups are not exclusionary based on something so innocuous as what kind of motorcycle you ride, what music you listen to, or almost anything else. Go Fast Don't Die is also a brand that promotes the idea of fighting against the "small deaths" that we all to often find ourselves living out in our own lives. We do not live up to our full potential because we are afraid of something, too lazy, or just stuck in the rut of what we've always done. All of the heart behind Go Fast Don't Die comes from Brady and his life experience, which is what we primarily dig into in this episode. Ensure you follow the links in the show notes below, get on Brady's Instagram and tell him we sent you, go to the Go Fast Don't Die website and sign up for their email list, maybe even buy a shirt. This past Sunday at Storyline's Gathering, our children sung Christmas carols! In addition, we continued our look at different aspects of the life of faith. The band performed songs by Roxette, David Ramirez and Echo Smith.
As we've discussed extensively over the past several months at the Gathering, Grace has the power to transform. When we resolve ourselves to respond to God's grace, that transformation occurs. However, how can we be sure that we've been transformed? How do we know the goal has been achieved? This past week at the Gathering, we discussed the process of transformation and what it takes to live the life of faith that Grace is calling us toward. Mike Koch and the band covered songs from Death Cab for Cutie, David Ramirez, Matthew Price, and more.

(As FV's first engineer interview, host Norman gets to nerd out a little with him a bit in the show!) David shares his story of conversion, growth in faith, and engineering journey. David believes in the power of serving others and putting their interests above his own, a principle we all believe is at the heart of human flourishing and God's design. He shares practical examples of how he has applied this mindset in his own business ventures and how it has affected his life deeply. Whether going above and beyond to serve a customer and make them whole, to enduring mistreatment, to embracing new opportunities, David's story is a testament to the faith-driven mindset and the impact it can have on both individuals and the marketplace.

The band performed songs by David Ramirez, Taylor Swift, Brooke Ligertwood, and more.

In a society which exults tolerance and indulgence of practically every vice imaginable, it is important to teach clearly and forcefully about the judgment of the Lord. They're not in our hymnals. But they're in the Bible. And so they should be in our hymnals. Thus, a great treasure has been stolen from Christians to learn how to pray in the way of the Imprecatory Psalms. We're trying to fix that. In this episode, Ramirez leads us through what imprecation is. Then he demonstrates from the psalms and examples in the Bible, where the saints of old imprecate God's enemies, and so their enemies also, so that we can follow in their train. Host: Fr. "The challenge is not to get addicted to the hardship." Soul family, we're back at it in full swing, and I'm happy as a kid to present today's guest: David Ramirez. David is one of my favorite singer/songwriters of all time, and his music has accompanied me through so many valleys and peaks of my life. Based in Austin, TX, David is truly one of a kind. A true artist, if you ask me. He wears his heart on his sleeve, and I'm beyond grateful for his willingness to delve into those "deeper" places of his personal history with me in this conversation. I know very few musicians today who put themselves out there as unapologetically as David does. This is a beautiful, tender, and honest conversation, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Christian Nationalism is all the rage in the media these days. By some it is used as a term of derision, a smear, in order to silence debate. By others it is a vision of what their nation should be and strive for. In this episode, Ramirez and I seek to clarify its meaning and ask the question if Christians should take up the smear in the same way our fathers in the faith took on the name “Lutheran.” Further Resources: Commentary on Psalm 82 by Martin Luther (Luther's Works Vol. 13) The Chief Theological Topics: Loci Praecipui Theologici (1559) by Philipp Melanchthon (esp. p. 430-431) "The Challenge of History: Luther's Two Kingdoms Theology as a Test Case" by Prof. Cameron MacKenzie http://www.ctsfw.net/media/pdfs/mackenziechallengeofhistory.pdf Peace, Order, and the Glory of God by Prof. James Estes Martin Luther and Religious Liberty by Pr. Today I’m honored to speak with Bruce Buckley (CEO) and David Ramirez (Home and Credit Financial Education Program Manager) from Soldier On, a private nonprofit organization committed to ending veteran homelessness. Since 1994, the organization has been providing homeless veterans with transitional housing and supportive services. In 2010, Soldier On opened the first Gordon H. Mansfield Veterans Community, a permanent housing cooperative that provides formerly homeless veterans with safe, sustainable, affordable housing – transitioning them from homelessness to homeownership. This housing model has now been replicated seven times, and currently comprises 300 apartments (and growing) in the Massachusetts and New Jersey region. Bruce and David talk with me about some inspirational success stories of veterans who started with nothing, on the streets, unsheltered and unaware of the many benefits and programs available to help them. From financial counseling to help them establish and build credit, to VA loans that can enable them to become homeowners, Soldier On continues to change the end of the story for homeless veterans throughout the country. Lending Forward is a weekly podcast hosted by Taylor Ellard and powered by Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group. We bring you raw stories from real people in the mortgage industry. We're covering what's next in lending, forward-thinking, and reflecting on lessons learned from Mortgage Bankers, Realtors, Financial Advisors, Coaches, and more! How are you lending it forward? Atlantic Bay has been recognized as a Top 100 Mortgage Company in America, Best Mortgage Company, Most Enjoyable Place to Work, and an Inc. 500 Fastest Growing Company. Host: Fr.
