"HOW DO YOU RESPECT YOUR PARTNER? R – Take Responsibility for your actions – they're your choice. Ask yourself, “If I was the kind of human I'd really like to be, what would I do?” Ask them how you can communicate better, and really take it on board. Do what you can to improve things for everyone. E – Treat your partner as an Equal. They are their own person, as important as you are. You don't need to have all the power – make decisions with them, not for them. S – Say how you feel. Share stuff, even the scary stuff. Talk about your worries and how you'd like things to turn out. Start sentences with “I feel…”. P – Listen to their Point of view. Value their views as much as you value your own. Think about what they say and take it on board. Ask questions; you'll learn new stuff. E – Empathize with your partner. Imagine how it feels to be in their shoes, and if you can do something to make it better, then do it. C – Challenge set beliefs. Question assumptions about how humans have to act, and what media or advertising keep reinforcing. Find your own way and let each person choose how they'll behave. T – Tell them you appreciate what they do for you. Notice how they improve your life and makes you a better person. Tell them." --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/antonio-myers4/support

So friends, Jade got a bit overwhelmed this week.    She is in a a wedding where the bachelorette party was rescheduled because of the snowstorm, she is starting a brand new job position she wasn’t expecting, she is applying for her Masters, and it is her and her husband’s first anniversary!! Because of the craziness, she read her book but she didn’t quite finish up her recording and editing. She’s going to delay it just a bit,  and she supremely thanks you for understanding!! In the meantime, here is a Science Fiction and Fantasy related episode, and also a fan favorite! We will see you soon for our next episode in our series of Season 2! Thank you, Lovelies, Jade will make it up to you, she promises, and she will be back for more!**** Episode Description*****In this episode, Jade continues her spooky and silly October reads with a summary and reaction to Twilight! A book that Jade has previously avoided reading, but actually enjoyed (SHH DON'T TELL). Jade also knows that Twilight isn't really a spooky story, but it is about vampires, AND she KNOWS you have all heard of it. Who Hasn't?! In case you don't know, listen to Jade as she tells you the story of 17 year old Bella Swan who moves to rainy Forks, and comes upon a mysterious family with devastating good looks with a penchant for saving damsels in distress. Unfortunately, things turn sour and Bella has to make some tough changes to hang onto her family, and her newfound, dangerous, sparkly love!! Expect Jade to talk about Pride and Prejudice, characters, and feminism. She also talks about steaks, creepy boys, suspense, and sucking venom from snake bites. She also learned, as long as you trip a lot, a mysterious and beautiful vampire might find you irresistible. But seriously, don't suck venom from a snakebite. So in writing one of the biggest tips that you start hearing starts in around third grade and it’s “SHOW DON’T TELL.” And it’s sound writing advice, but it’s pretty sound life advice, too. ‘A Teen’s Life: Looking At Teens Through Their Struggles’ is a book by Uchenna L. Umeh, MD, MBA, FAAP, also known as Dr. Lulu the Momatrician. Her book discusses the stressors faced by teenagers at present and how it interplays with their decisions that might have lasting outcomes, which affects the prevalence of suicide among the youth. Join host Adrian Sinclar and Uchenna L. Umeh as they discuss suicide and shed light as to why it also a life issue and not just a mental issue, what factors influence people to commit suicide, how we can help them.‘What happened?’ That is the question we ought to be asking suicidal people or those suffering from mental anguish and despair that may lead them to commit suicide. Asking them ‘why’ has a judgmental tone to it, like when we ask them why they attempted suicide, or why they were bullied, or why were they molested. It’s a question that doesn’t open a door for a suicidal person to engage in a conversation because it makes them hesitant to speak up, thinking that if they say something people would judge them. And that’s the thing. Most people have this perception that when a person is suicidal, they are labeled as ‘crazy,’ or that ‘they do not have enough faith in God,’ or that they are ‘sinful’ and ‘will end up in hell.’ Because of that alienation, suicidal people are left on their own until it is too late for any intervention. But if we ask them ‘what happened’ instead, we are being compassionate. By asking that question, we are giving them a message, an assurance that we are here to listen and to talk; that there is someone who is there for them, that they are not alone. In our podcast with Dr. Uchenna L. Umeh, author of the book ‘A Teen’s Life: Looking at teens’ life through their struggles,’ she shared that there are two simple ways to help prevent people from committing suicide. The first is to tune in with ourselves, our family, our friends, and other people. If we do, then we’ll notice their body language and allow them to talk, which is the second one. Uchenna defined ‘talk’ as the following: 1.) T - Tell someone that you don’t feel good; 2.) A - Allow people to help you; 3.) L – Love yourself into wanting to get better; and 4.) K – Knowledge and Kindness. Educate yourself about what’s going on and how did you get here, and be kind to yourself. Kindness is the most important trait any human can have. Depression, anxiety, and other forms of mental illness are commonly associated with suicide. But not all those who suffer from or are diagnosed with mental illnesses or disorders are the only ones who commit. Many happen to be victims of bullying, discrimination and racism, domestic violence, financial loss, and sexual violence, among many others. On the topic of bullying, Uchenna shared that studies showed that girls have a higher rate of suicidal behaviors, tendencies, or thought processes. However, boys have a higher rate of suicide completion and that is really heartbreaking. Worse still, some victims of bullying also become bullies themselves, and that the rate of suicide and incarceration among them is high. But why does bullying continue? Bystanders. Uchenna pointed out that because we chose to be bystanders - not associating ourselves, for example, with the victims because either it doesn’t affect you or you fear retribution from those oppressing the victim - is the reason why bullying proliferates. And it’s not just restricted in schools.Bullying also happens at home, at the office, or even from your community. We must understand that suicide isn’t just a mental issue – it’s a life issue. And that is what Uchenna pointed out in our podcast; that there is more to suicide than just depression or any mental disorder one may be suffering from. Apodcast.com - Listen, Learn, and Share. Click the follow button on the podcast page to get more content from us. R - Radical honesty about your current REALITY. ELEMENTS OF STORYTELLING  This episode reveals the 6 essential elements of storytelling. There are many kinds of storytelling. There are novels, short stories, parable, screenplays, to name a few. This podcast and episode focus specifically on persuasive storytelling for business and for personal influence. In this context, think of storytelling as sharply focused intentional communication that engages people, arouses their emotions, and inspires them to take actions that will improve their lives. Listen to this to learn the WHAT of storytelling. In future episodes, you learn the HOW by exploring each of the elements of storytelling in greater detail. Here are the… 6 ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF STORYTELLING IMMEDIATE ENGAGEMENT – Your goal as a persuasive communicator is to grab your audience’s full attention immediately. MYSTERY – You hold people’s attention by creating a mounting sense of mystery. VIVID – Always communicate with sensory language. Paint three dimensional word pictures by using your senses – all 5 of them. Make people hear, see, smell, taste, and feel what you are talking about. By doing that, you touch and move their emotions. CONFLICT – People identify with struggle. Learn to make your audience central characters in narratives that take them on a journey from a painful before state to a desirable after state. Along the way, they will face obstacles that you will help them overcome. This process involves tension and conflict. You are taking people on a hero’s journey in which they play the hero. SHOW, DON’T TELL – Showing is like lecturing; it speaks to people’s heads. “Show” storytelling bombards your audience with data. It does not touch them emotionally. Telling is example based storytelling that uses vivid sensory language that depicts human beings in struggles and actions as they move toward a desired goal. “Tell” storytelling speaks to the heart and moves people emotionally. UNIVERSAL – A universal story allows people to see themselves in the narrative. They identify with the character’s pain, struggle, and desired outcome. Universal stories create deep rapport, and they win trust. Listen to this episode more than once. Burn the 6 essential elements of storytelling into your memory. Use them when you speak to people every day. You communication will gain great clarity, confidence, and power.

Welcome back to the Presenting, Pitching & Public Speaking Podcast. In this episode, Toni takes a deeper dive into audience interaction and shares with you how to litter your presentation with interactions to keep your audience engaged and elicit a response. Toni looks are the different methods of interaction and gives you her top tips to interacting both verbally and non-verbally. Listen to the previous episode here: #010 Speaker Interaction KEY TAKEAWAYS Use sporadically throughout your delivery - Don’t allow interaction to become the focal point of your delivery. Simply allow yourself to litter interaction with your audience throughout your speech. Don’t make it too top or end heavy. It’s got to be relevant - Always consider the context of your interactions during your delivery and how that impacts on your content. Keep it relevant. Vary your responsiveness - Bring in and engage every type of listener with varied responses when interacting. Incorporate all of the different learner types by varying your responses. Lead by example - If you are asking people to raise their hand you need to lead by example. This will help to elicit a response and allow you to keep them engaged. Eye contact, smiling and your body language - These are all fabulous, non-verbal ways to interact with your audience and break down barriers. How To Interact With Questions Questioning within the room. - This can be one-to-one or one-many. Ask questions to groups within the room - Crowdsource your answers, get hand-raisers or ask them to shout out the answer. Ask your audience to write down their answers on a piece of paper - This is a non-verbal interaction but gets your audience thinkings and keeps them engaged. - There are two different forms of questions. Open and closed and you can use the T.E.D model to ask them. T: - Tell me. E: - Explain. D: - Describe - A great way to ask closed questions and gain audience interaction is to ‘Tag’ the answer on to the end of your statement. For example, Public speaking is a great way to grow your business, yes or no? the audience will answer yes or no. There’s verbal and non-verbal interaction you can employ to keep your audience engaged. It’s your responsibility as the speaker to identify how much of each type of interaction to deliver. It’s also your responsibility to ensure the environment is right within the room. Along with everything else you need to monitor the room to ensure it doesn’t detract away from the delivery of your presentation. BEST MOMENTS “If you’re doing a 30-second elevator pitch you might not use or need any interaction in your delivery. But if you’re delivering a half-day training session or an hour and a half presentation you’ll want to include interaction in your delivery.” “Always ensure your delivery is consistent but tailored to your specific audience.” “The amount of interaction you’ll look to use will depend upon the duration of your speech or presentation” “Bear in mind the context and content of your interactions” VALUABLE RESOURCES #010 Speaker Interaction ABOUT THE HOST Toni Gargan is a Double World Record-holding Public Speaker, Mentor, Entrepreneur, and Professional Property Investor.
