Offscreen, Karen Huger was sentenced to one year in prison, five years probation plus fines, and immediately was taken into custody. What happened in the courtroom? We have a first-person account from a Cocktailer. Southern Hospitality - if you're not watching it, start now. Is Shep's sad one-sided relationship just a "redemption arc" storyline? On Summer House, the boys had to dunk into a tank full of weiners and B doesn't want to talk about it. And what's up with Jesse and Lexi's whirlwind romance?

This year marks the 51st anniversary since the Supreme Court handed down its decision in Roe v. Wade, protecting the constitutional right to abortion in 1973. Unfortunately, this anniversary is marred by the overturn of Roe by the Supreme Court in 2022, resulting in the continued denial of the power to make personal medical decisions during pregnancy for millions of people in states across the country. In 2024, our fight for reproductive freedom continues. In the last several weeks, the Supreme Court announced that it would hear two abortion-related cases this term, potentially impacting access to medication abortion and whether people can receive care when facing medical emergencies. This fight requires all of us, and today we're excited to speak with two advocates about what we can all do to advance reproductive rights in our communities. First up, we have actor and writer Busy Philipps, who is joining the ACLU as an artist ambassador for reproductive freedom. You may recognize Busy from shows like “Freaks and Geeks,” “Girls 5Eva,” and “Busy Tonight,” and the new remake of the movie “Mean Girls.” Offscreen, Busy has engaged in years of advocacy with the ACLU in states like Ohio and Texas. She joins us today to share her journey as an activist alongside J.J. Straight, the ACLU's national campaigns director for reproductive freedom, who has led many of our state and nationwide fights for abortion access and been busier than ever since the overturn of Roe. Together, we'll discuss what the new year has in store for reproductive freedom and our continued fight for bodily autonomy at large.

Tv and film legend Carol Burnett joins The Art of Kindness with Robert Peterpaul for our 100th episode extravaganza! The Carol Burnett Show powerhouse calls in to discuss all things kindness: including life-changing acts of kindness throughout her life and career, and what her golden advice for the world. What can be said of the beloved icon Carol Burnett that hasn't been said? Carol is, of course, an award-winning actress, producer, comedic genius and best-selling author, widely recognized for her work in Broadway shows like Once Upon A Mattress, films like Annie and television, most notably The Carol Burnett Show. Named in 2007 by TIME magazine as one of “100 Best Television Shows of All Time,” The Carol Burnett Show ran for 11 years, averaged 30 million viewers per week, and received 25 Emmy Awards, making it one of the most honored shows in television history. It put Carol and her friends opposite legendary guest stars like Lucille Ball, Betty White, Cher, and her good friend Julie Andrews.  Carol's remarkable journey to stardom started with humble beginnings. Born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1933, she was predominantly raised by her mother and grandmother. The family moved to a less-than-glamorous part of Hollywood in the late 1930s, seeking a better life and eventually putting Carol in the halls of Hollywood High School. As time went by, the family's modest means made going to college a far away dream for Carol. However two acts of kindness soon intervened and changed her path forever… which, of course, we discuss in today's conversation. Carol now has a permanent steak in the grounds of Los Angeles, with the intersection of Highland Ave. and Selma directly adjacent to Hollywood High School, named Carol Burnett Square. This is merely one accolade the star has racked up over the years. As a highly acclaimed actress, Carol has been honored with Emmys, Golden Globes, People's Choice Awards, the Peabody, a Grammy, a SAG Lifetime Achievement Award. and many more. She is a Kennedy Center Honoree, the recipient of the Kennedy Center Mark Twain Prize for Humor and the Presidential Medal of Freedom; was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2019, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association created The Carol Burnett Award which is an honorary Golden Globe to celebrate outstanding contributions to television on or off the screen. Offscreen, Carol enjoys spending time with her husband Brian, her two daughters Jody and Erin, her grandsons, and her cat, Nikki. As a passionate supporter of the arts and education, she established several scholarships around the country, including the Carol Burnett Musical Theatre Competition at her alma mater, UCLA, and the Carrie Hamilton Foundation, to honor her daughter's memory. New York Times best-selling author, TV producer, actor, and screenwriter Tembi Locke has a passion for connecting with an audience both on the page and on the screen. After going through a monumental rollercoaster life experience, Tembi put pen to paper and began the cathartic experience of writing down her personal story. This turned into Simon and Schuster's' New York Times-bestselling memoir, “From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home,” which was chosen as a 2019 Reese's Book Club pick, and was quickly scooped up by Reese's Witherspoon's Hello Sunshine and Netflix as a limited series. Inspired by the memoir, From Scratch is a cross-cultural love story that follows Amy (played by Zoe Saldana, based on Tembi) an American student studying abroad in Italy, as she meets and falls in love with Lino, a Sicilian chef. Their whirlwind romance faces many unforeseen challenges, including their very different cultural backgrounds of which Lino's family is not accepting of Amy's. But when Lino is faced with unimaginable health challenges and the couple's future is threatened, the two families come together to create an extended family unlike any they could have imagined, proving that love crosses all borders. Tembi is an accomplished actor with over sixty film and television credits, most recently recurring on Never Have I Ever. Offscreen, Tembi is a nationally recognized speaker for her keynotes on resilience, loss, and motherhood; her TEDX talk has been viewed by individuals and nonprofits worldwide. https://www.tembilocke.com

Let's have some fun! In this episode, Luxury Sai shares what states have to disclose if your dream home will give you nightmares because it's haunted. You may not believe in ghosts, ghouls, spirits, or lingering souls, but you've likely seen plenty of horror movies that start with an unsuspecting family moving into a haunted house. Offscreen, too, some actual houses are rumored to be haunted. While some people certainly are interested in haunted houses for sale, plenty might reconsider the purchase if this information was handy. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/luxurysai/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/luxurysai/support

“The Rachel Maddow Show” debuted in the interregnum between political eras. Before it lay the 9/11 era and the George W. Bush presidency. Days after the show launched in 2008, Lehman Brothers collapsed, and a few weeks later Barack Obama was elected president. And then history just kept speeding up. The Tea Party. The debt ceiling debacles. Donald Trump. The coronavirus pandemic. January 6th. The big lie. Maddow covered and tried to make sense of it all. Now, after 14 years, she has taken her show down to one episode a week and is beginning other projects — like “Ultra,” the history podcast we discuss in this episode. But I wanted to talk to Maddow about how American politics and media has changed over the course of her show. We discuss the legacies of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the cycle of economic crises we appear to keep having, Maddow's relationships with Pat Buchanan and Tucker Carlson, where the current G.O.P.'s anti-democracy efforts really started, how Obama's presidency changed politics, how Maddow finds and chooses her stories, the statehouse Republicans who tilled the soil for Trump's big lie and more.Book Recommendations:Hitler in Los Angeles by Steven J. Tembi Locke is an actor, an author, a screenwriter, and a producer who really knows how to connect with her audience. Her New York Times bestselling book, From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily, and Finding Home was Reese Witherspoon's 2019 Book Club pick. Reese loved it so much, she's executive producing the adaptation for a Netflix series where Zoe Saldana will star as Tembi.  Tembi's memoir, From Scratch, is a sweeping, autobiographical romance that follows an American woman as she falls in love with a Sicilian man while studying abroad in Italy and then builds a life with him in the United States. When she unexpectedly loses her young Italian chef husband to illness, she's challenged to pull herself through grief so she can raise their adopted daughter as they would have raised her together: with hope, joy, and infinite love. Cooking becomes a way for her to be close to Saro both in Los Angeles and in his mother, Nona's kitchen, and why mourning food (morning with a “u”) offers comfort and sustenance. It's why a bowl of pasta always makes us feel better. Tembi has over sixty film and television credits under her belt as an accomplished actor and is currently recurring on Never Have I Ever, a comedy created by Mindy Kaling. Offscreen, Tembi is a nationally recognized speaker for her keynotes on resilience, loss, and motherhood with her TEDx talk viewed by individuals and nonprofits worldwide. In turbulent times like these, fandom can prove a wonderful distraction and escape. Therefore I'm releasing my three Patreon specials for all my listeners in between the regular scheduled episodes. Attending a Shadowhunters convention with some of the lovely ladies from Jalec Squad, we tackled the controversial topic of Real Person Ships. Show notes on Patreon.

Rhonda has exited! Offscreen! Uh, bye! So Amanda has moved in (to Rhonda's old unit, which we know was a studio?) and is busily making friends with her female neighbours. Jo seems to enjoy hanging out until it becomes clear that, with Amanda finally moving on from Billy, she has taken notice of Jake -- and just in time for Jake and Jo to have moved in together, too. Why isn't Billy still on Amanda's menu? Well, Alison's stalker has started getting more aggressive. He's even gone after Keith with a tire iron, just like he did Billy! Surprisingly, Billy starts to get suspicious of this report since no one ever told him he was struck by a tire iron (and, of course, we know Keith just hit himself on the corner of his hotel room TV, so how he passed that off as a tire iron injury to anyone who examined him, we are sure we don't know). Billy digs into this new crime, "stalking," and finds out that the people who do it have usually experienced a romantic rejection. But will he be able to convince Alison? Jane is ready to exit her marriage with a minimum of hassle, but Michael the diva can't even agree to a no-fault divorce due to the injury it will cause his pride. After the ladies' squad end up out for dinner at the same restaurant as Michael and Kimberly, however, Jane reconsiders whether she does want to talk to a ruthless divorce lawyer Amanda (who else) knows and try to get a payout in the form of Michael's future earnings. We discuss it all in our podcast on "Much Ado About Everything"! JOIN THE AWT CLUB
