It's at The Word Barn in Exeter, N.H., and it will feature conversations with Flight House Gym's Jay Collins, Live Freely's Alyssa Pine, and Cup of Joe's Joanna Kelley. For tickets, click here. The Seacoast as we know it today? It nearly never existed. That's because, in the 1970s, the world's then-richest man, Aristotle Onassis of Greece, wanted to build a $600M oil refinery in Durham, N.H. Its size and output (400,000 barrels per day) would have made it the largest refinery in the world, and thereby putting the entire Seacoast ecosystem and natural beauty at risk. But the residents of Durham, led by three women in particular, refused to let it happen. From the West End of Portsmouth, Professor David W. Moore, a senior fellow at UNH's Carsey School of Public Policy and author of "Small Town, Big Oil: The Untold Story of the Women Who Took on the World's Richest Man-And Won" joins host Troy Farkas to spill the tea on the relationship between Onassis and Jackie Kennedy (JFK's widow), and to discuss how the world's richest man had landed upon Durham Point, the state government's push for the refinery, the citizens' opposition to it, and why the Seacoast would look drastically different had Onassis succeeded.CHAPTERS:6/19 live podcast details (00:00)Aristotle Onassis' dream of building an oil refinery (01:07)Jackie Kennedy's odd marriage to Onassis (05:25)Why Durham, N.H., was the ideal spot for the refinery (13:00)SPONSOR: Meconi Financial Management & Advisory (24:32)SPONSOR: Holistic & Hormonal (25:58)Why the citizens were opposed to the refinery (27:28)How the media cozied up to Onassis (35:11)What if the refinery had been built? When the Gemstone Files surfaced in the early 1970's it painted a picture of JFK's assassination being masterminded by shipping magnate Aristotle Onassis as part of a corporate mafia conspiracy. But did JFK get assassinated because he wouldn't toe the elite's line? Did the Mafia help Onassis get JFK out of the way so he could take control of future presidents? And why did he marry JFK's widow? Daniel Ludwig was the richest man in the world and no one knew his name. I've read almost 400 biographies of history's greatest founders and this book is one of my all time favorites. Daniel Ludwig started his company at 19 and was working on it well into his 90s. He built a massive conglomerate of over 200 companies operating in more than 50 countries. Spending the time to learn how he did this is a great investment. This episode will tell you what I learned from rereading The Invisible Billionaire: Daniel Ludwig by Jerry Shields. ----Ramp gives you everything you need to control spend, watch your costs, and optimize your financial operations —all on a single platform. Make history's greatest entrepreneurs proud by going to Ramp and learning how they can help your business control your costs and save more. ----Founders Notes gives you the ability to tap into the collective knowledge of history's greatest entrepreneurs on demand. Use it to supplement the decisions you make in your work. Get access to Founders Notes here. ----Join my free email newsletter to get my top 10 highlights from every book----EPISODE OUTLINE 1. Obsessed with privacy, Ludwig pays a major public relations firm fat fees to keep his name out of the papers.2. An associate speaks of his unlimited ingenuity in dreaming up new ways of doing things.3. Ludwig's most notable characteristic, besides his imagination and pertinacity, is a lifelong penchant for keeping his mouth shut.4. I'm in this business because I like it. I have no other hobbies.5. Pertinacity: Holding strongly to an opinion, purpose, or course of action, stubbornly or annoyingly persistent.6. Risk Game: Self Portrait of an Entrepreneur by Francis Greenburger (Founders #243)7. At his peak, he owned more than 200 companies in 50 countries.8. War makes the demand for Ludwig's products and services skyrocket.9. Hard Drive: Bill Gates and the Making of the Microsoft Empire by James Wallace and Jim Erickson. (Founders #290)10. He did not mellow as he grew richer and older.11. Some years later, the captain of a Ludwig ship made the extravagant mistake of mailing in a report of several pages held together by a paper clip. He received a sharp rebuke for his prodigality: "We do not pay to send ironmongery by air mail!"12. Ludwig's tightfistedness, however, persisted after the Depression, putting him in sharp contrast to such free spenders as Onassis and Niarchos. It also was largely responsible for many of his innovations in the shipbuilding industry.13. Onassis: An Extravagant Life by Frank Brady. (Founders #211)14. Ludwig's ridding his ships of any feature that did not contribute to profits pleased his own obsessive sense of economy and kept him a step ahead of the competition. When someone asked why he didn't put a grand piano aboard his ships, as Stavros Niarchos did, Ludwig snapped, "You can't carry oil in a grand piano."15. Stay in the game long enough to get lucky.16. The world is a very malleable place. If you know what you want, and you go for it with maximum energy and drive and passion, the world will often reconfigure itself around you much more quickly and easily than you would think. The Pmarca Blog Archive Ebook by Marc Andreessen (Founders #50)17. The yacht was as much a business craft as any of his tankers and probably earned him more money than any of them.18. Like the Rockefeller organization, Ludwig had mastered the practice of keeping his money by transferring it from one pocket, one company to another, while appearing to spend it.19. He had learned something by now. Opportunities exist on the frontiers where most men dare not venture, and it is often the case that the farther the frontier, the greater the opportunity.20. The way to escape competition is to either do something no one else is doing or do it where no one else is doing it.21. Much of Ludwig's success was due to his willingness to venture where more timid entrepreneurs dared not go. ----Founders Notes gives you the ability to tap into the collective knowledge of history's greatest entrepreneurs on demand. Biopics …

What a week! In this latest installment of Onassis and his lovely ladies, we return the focus back to Christina, and her doomed marriage to Joseph Bolker, mostly because Aristotle wants it that way. But that is not Ari's only problem. His ex-wife Tina is scheming too and will enter her next marriage shortly, leading everyone to anger. But Ari has even bigger problems. He cannot seem to leave Maria Callas alone, and Jackie is not down for that plan. Want early, ad-free episodes, regular Dumpster Dives, bonus divorces, limited series, Zoom hangouts, and more? This week, in the sixth in our series of Aristotle Onassis and His Lovely Ladies, the ladies are plentiful. Maria Callas is full in love with her Aristo, but she is not the only lady in Aristotle's life. He does frequent brothels and will begin an affair with Princess Lee Radziwill – both enrage Maria. Also included, so many spiderwebs – Prince Rainer, Richard Burton, JFK, Marilyn Monroe, and Elsa Maxwell all make an appearance. But no one comes faster at Onassis than Lee's sister, The First Lady, Jacqueline Kennedy. Y si no… 1. Fiat 600 Jolly-Ghia (1955). El coche de Onassis. 2. Trabant Tramp Cabrio (1963). Otra oportunidad. 3. Mini Moke (1964). Caído del cielo. 4. Dune Buggy VW (1966). ¡Nace un mito! 5. Citroën Mehari (1968). El 2 CV más “guapo”. 6. Renault 4 Plein Air (1968). Alegría de vivir. 7. Renault 6 Rodeo (1970). Un R6 “informal”. 8. Simca 1200 Campero (1973). El Mehari de Simca. 9. Seat Samba (1978). Fiat Scout a la española. 10. Rinspeed BamBoo (2011). Era inevitable. Willys Surrey (1968). Bonus track.

Emmy Award Winning Actor and Daytime TV's favorite villain, Thaao Penghlis, recently released his cookbook: "Seducing Celebrities One Meal at a Time." This Australian-born Renaissance Man has traveled the world and hosted memorable dinner parties in his Hollywood Hills home with high profile celebrities. While this cookbook imagines the perfect meals for celebrities he has met, his actress friend Doris Roberts once wrote a thank you note praising his meticulous detail to the ambiance, food, and presentation. Kourabiedes literally changed his life. While Thaao was working as an apprentice at an art gallery in Manhattan, Jacqueline Kennedy knocked on the door. The gallery owner was out to lunch so Thaao invited then Mrs. Kennedy to have some tea and kourabiedes which he had baked. How ironic that the son of Greek immigrants would serve Greek wedding cookies to the future Mrs. Onassis. Of course the featured entree that Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis inspired was Thaao's Moussaka. recipe. He shares his delicious touches to this Greek dish including shiitake mushrooms and peeling the eggplants to remove any bitterness. Thaao also highlights delightful stories about other celebrities during our Kitchen Chat. Thaao hosts a podcast called "Thaao Penghlis' Lost Treasures," a thrilling detective story-style exploration of Greece's greatest contribution to the world's literature, the poet Homer. Here is Thaao's great wisdom for life and success. Never allow people to be the leaders of your life or tell you what's next. I believe you plant your own seeds and trust. If someone's not opening the door, it's meant that you look elsewhere. Don't let them be your dominant in the ways they've taken you away from something. Out create them. Make your life great. Don't shortchange it. Don't let people dismiss you. If they do it means that you have just been blessed by someone who has let you go onto another side of your track. Be the cause and not the effect. Enjoy the great recipes and stories in Seducing Celebrities One Meal at a Time. Savor the day! For more Celebrity Chef interviews and recipes visit Kitchenchat.info

In The Wheel World, comedian Jason Sáenz tells the story of when he fell through a skylight onto a flight of stairs during a third date six years ago. This accident and the subsequent month-long battle against spinal meningitis in the ICU left Sáenz paralyzed. The Wheel World presents all the grim and intimate details of becoming a paraplegic in Hollywood. Last week, on April 18 and 19, the woman formerly known as Grace Kelly and, after marriage, Princess Grace of Monaco, would have marked 68 years of marriage to Prince Rainier III, had either lived to see it. Grace died at just 52 years old from injuries sustained in a car accident in 1982; Rainier died in 2005, 23 years later. Born in Philadelphia, Grace had just won the Academy Award for Best Actress for The Country Girl when she met Rainier in April 1955. It all started as a publicity gimmick while she was in Europe attending the Cannes Film Festival that, somehow, turned into what would become a 26-year marriage, but before their three children Princess Caroline, Prince Albert, and Princess Stephanie, and before her work as Princess of Monaco, and before her tragic death, there was the dress—one of the most elegant, memorable, and famous wedding gowns of all time. On her wedding day, Grace was 26 years old and was retiring from acting to marry a literal prince. Grace was arguably at the height of her Hollywood career when she met Rainier, and by the end of 1955, they were engaged; Rainier was already the monarch of the small principality of Monaco in the French Riviera and had been on the throne since 1949. He was 32 years old when they married, and reportedly being pressured—as all who are on the throne or who will be on the throne are—to produce an heir to ensure the continuation of the monarchy. As per Monegasque tradition, on April 18, 1956, Grace and Rainier were married in a civil ceremony in the throne room of the Royal Palace in front of just 80 guests. The ceremony was performed by Monaco's Minister of Justice and was the precursor to the next day's religious ceremony—that one watched by over 30 million viewers. Grace's $60,000 religious ceremony wedding dress was a gift from MGM to its star and was a worthwhile investment: is has become one of the most iconic wedding dresses of all time. The timeless look has gone on to inspire brides like Kate Middleton, whose 2011 Alexander McQueen gown bore a close resemblance to the gown worn by Grace, another royal bride that walked down the aisle 55 years before her. Grace and Rainier's religious ceremony on April 19 was held at the St. Nicholas Cathedral, and the high mass was conducted by the bishop of Monaco. A mixture of high society and Hollywood stars gathered for the occasion, including Ava Gardner, Cary Grant, Gloria Swanson, Aristotle Onassis, Conrad Hilton, and Egypt's former King Farouk. Tatler reports that “During the wedding breakfast, guests were treated to lobster, caviar, and a six-tier wedding cake by the Hotel de Paris' pastry chefs, from which two live turtle doves were released after Rainier sliced through it with his sword.” The couple left in a Rolls-Royce—a gift from their subjects—and sailed away on a seven-week honeymoon onboard Deo Juvante II, a gift from Onassis; by the time the newlyweds returned to Monaco, Grace was pregnant with her first child, Princess Caroline, who was born nine months and four days after her royal wedding in January 1957. Today on the show we welcome back author J. Randy Taraborrelli and induct him into the elite I'd Rather Be Reading second timers club. He was on the show way back in February 2022 discussing his book Jackie, Ethel, Joan, about life as a Kennedy wife. In addition to writing extensively about the Kennedys—Jackie in particular—he has also written biographies on Frank Sinatra, Marilyn Monroe, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce, the Hiltons, the Bushes, and more. He's endlessly interesting to talk to, and today we're digging into his book Once Upon a Time: Behind the Fairytale of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier, which I think is the definitive book on not just Grace, but her marriage, too. It turns out the story of Grace and Rainier is a fairytale, but maybe not in the way you might think. Once Upon a Time: Behind the Fairytale of Princess Grace and Prince Rainier by J. Randy Taraborrelli

Milena Jesenská, Etty Hillesum, Marina Cvetaeva, Ingeborg Bachmann, Cristina Campo (2013), Empatie. Esperanza and Irwin were surprised to learn Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis' formative years were spent on eastern Long Island. Born in 1929 at Southampton Hospital, the center of the Bouvier family life was at "Lasata", (meaning place of peace) the Further Lane estate adjacent to the Maidstone Club, where the family also had a cabana. When the Bouvier's first arrived in East Hampton in 1912, the place was far simpler than neighboring Southampton, a landscape primarily dominated by farm fields and simple salt boxes. Fast forwarding to 1953, Jackie married Jack Kennedy, and you know the story line over the next 10 plus years. Returning the story to East Hampton, we tie in the story of Grey Gardens, of Big Edie and Little Edie. Jackie and her sister Lee Radziwill literally rescued their Aunt and Cousin from the squalor they were living in, the subject of the cult classic "Grey Gardens" by the Maysles brothers.

Today's show will focus on the Onassis Family. We will be diving into all 13 families over several podcasts. The Illuminati has long been a conspiracy theory. But that does not mean its not true. This is about the fascinating conspiracy theory that claims these most powerful families in the world own 99% of the wealth, leaving 1% for the rest of the world to fight over. These are families that have a hold in almost every sphere of life, be it politics, business or entertainment. The 13 bloodlines are said to have connections to wealth and power that are simply unimaginable. And these families span from Europe to China. The leading researcher behind the Illuminati families is a man named, Fritz Springmeier, an author and educator, and he has presented some of the most compelling details about the Illuminati bloodline. Before you read the following article about Illuminati families, it is imperative that you realise that all these are popular points of view and remain just a conspiracy theory, unless proven otherwise. But goddamn, is it a great conspiracy theory!

What I learned from rereading The Invisible Billionaire: Daniel Ludwig by Jerry Shields. This episode is brought to you by: Tiny: Tiny is the easiest way to sell your business. Tiny provides quick and straightforward exits for Founders. ----Follow one of my favorite podcasts Invest Like The Best !----[2:00] Obsessed with privacy, Ludwig pays a major public relations firm fat fees to keep his name out of the papers.[4:00] An associate speaks of his unlimited ingenuity in dreaming up new ways of doing things.[5:00] Ludwig's most notable characteristic, besides his imagination and pertinacity, is a lifelong penchant for keeping his mouth shut.[5:00] I'm in this business because I like it. I have no other hobbies.[6:00] Holding strongly to an opinion, purpose, or course of action, stubbornly or annoyingly persistent.[8:00] Risk Game: Self Portrait of an Entrepreneur by Francis Greenburger (Founders #243)[10:00] At his peak, he owned more than 200 companies in 50 countries.[23:00] War makes the demand for Ludwig's products and services skyrocket.[25:00] Hard Drive: Bill Gates and the Making of the Microsoft Empire by James Wallace and Jim Erickson. (Founders #290)[28:00] He did not mellow as he grew richer and older.[28:00] Some years later, the captain of a Ludwig ship made the extravagant mistake of mailing in a report of several pages held together by a paper clip. He received a sharp rebuke for his prodigality: "We do not pay to send ironmongery by air mail!"[29:00] Ludwig's tightfistedness, however, persisted after the Depression, putting him in sharp contrast to such free spenders as Onassis and Niarchos. It also was largely responsible for many of his innovations in the shipbuilding industry.[29:00] Onassis: An Extravagant Life by Frank Brady. (Founders #211)[30:00] Ludwig's ridding his ships of any feature that did not contribute to profits pleased his own obsessive sense of economy and kept him a step ahead of the competition. When someone asked why he didn't put a grand piano aboard his ships, as Stavros Niarchos did, Ludwig snapped, "You can't carry oil in a grand piano."[31:00] Stay in the game long enough to get lucky.[32:00] The world is a very malleable place. If you know what you want, and you go for it with maximum energy and drive and passion, the world will often reconfigure itself around you much more quickly and easily than you would think. The Pmarca Blog Archive Ebook by Marc Andreessen (Founders #50)[37:00] The yacht was as much a business craft as any of his tankers and probably earned him more money than any of them.[40:00] Like the Rockefeller organization, Ludwig had mastered the practice of keeping his money by transferring it from one pocket, one company to another, while appearing to spend it.[42:00] He had learned something by now. Opportunities exist on the frontiers where most men dare not venture, and it is often the case that the farther the frontier, the greater the opportunity.[43:00] The way to escape competition is to either do something no one else is doing or do it where no one else is doing it.[43:00] Much of Ludwig's success was due to his willingness to venture where more timid entrepreneurs dared not go.----Subscribe to listen to Founders Premium — Subscribers can ask me questions directly and listen to Ask Me Anything (AMA) episodes. ----Join my free email newsletter to get my top 10 highlights from every book----I use Readwise to organize and remember everything I read. #OnassisParungao #UFC #UFCHistoryWe found Onassis Parungao in Connecticut, teaching Kung-fu and Tai-Chi, arts that he has dedicated his life to. In the world of traditional martial arts, Parungao is set apart and associated with MMA because of the following:In 1995, he fought an alternate fight at UFC 7, defeating Francesco "Fang" Maturi. The tournament held together and was won by Marco Ruas, but Parungao was standing by to jump in.In those days, traditional martial artists were known to shun the UFC. You can count on just 1 or 2 hands the number of traditional martial artists who stepped up to test themselves. Parungao is undefeated in the UFC at 1-0. Though it is one fight, very few can make that statement. Before deciding to discontinue in his fighting career, Parungao also traveled to Russia and participated in the notorious 32-man Absolute tournament that was won by Renzo Gracie student Ricardo Morais.
