Name a genre, and you can bet that Luis Garban has tried his hand at it once or twice. Once a staple of the mid-'00s IDM and breakcore scene—think Tigerbeat6—as Cardopusher, Garban found a temporary home in the dubstep scene afterwards, before shooting off in what felt like a million directions. He might be the only artist to release on both Hyperdub and Boysnoize Records. He makes music that can sound like the future or the past, sometimes both at once, and the Venezuelan-born, Spain-based producer's name is shorthand for musical adventurism and variety. Last year, things got even wilder with the debut of Safety Trance, a new alias that explores pan-Latin club music, with a focus on collaboration and shorter, structured songs. (Artists he's worked with include Arca, Iceboy Violet and Virgen Maria.) It's some of the best and most creative work of his career, riding a larger Latin techno wave producing some of the best music around these days. If that weren't enough, returning to Cardopusher, Garban has a career-best EP on the way for EVAR Records, pulling together the various strands of the project into a multi-genre, Gen-Z-friendly raveathon. Loaded with original tracks from both projects, RA Podcast could be billed as Cardopusher vs. Safety Trance, with highlights coming from Atari Teenage Riot, VTSS and Venetian Snares, which should give you an idea for the kind of controlled chaos you're in for with this one. @cardopusher Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/867

Jace Clayton is a music writer and musician who records as DJ /rupture. His book is Uproot: Travels in 21st-Century Music and Digital Culture. “What does it mean to be young and have some sound inside your head? Or to be in a scene that you want to broadcast to the world? That notion of the world is changing, who you’re broadcasting to is changing, all these different things—the tool sets. But there’s this very fundamental joy of music making. I was like, ‘Ok. Let’s find flashpoints where interesting things are happening and can be unpacked that shed different little spotlights on it, but do fall into this wider view of how we articulate what’s thrilling to be alive right now.’” Thanks to MailChimp for sponsoring this week's episode. @djrupture jaceclayton.com [04:15] Uproot: Travels in 21st-Century Music and Digital Culture (Farrar, Straus and Giroux • 2016) [05:00] Wax Poetic [05:30] "Slow Burn" (The Fader • Jul 2008) [06:00] "Past Masters" (The National • Mar 2009) [15:30] "Pitch Perfect" (Frieze • May 2009) [23:30] Mudd Up! PIMMON is arguably Australia’s most well known and most successful experimental music producers, having recorded for various labels around the world (including Tigerbeat6 and Fat Cat) and collaborating with the likes of FENNESZ and OREN AMBARCHI.Over the preceding eighteen months, PIMMON released five albums of new material, from 2009’s ‘Smudge Another Yesterday’ to his forthcoming split cassette on Spanish Magic, which comes backed with one of his earliest recordings from 1983 under the name YCLEPT DINMAKERS.Stu Buchanan talks with Pimmon about  this productive patch and discovers whether his early 80s material is really worth a listen, and whether any of the so-called chillwave cassette bands actually sound any good with the hiss removed.

Well it has been a while, hasn't it? Our heartfelt apologies for leaving you without your fix for so long. But the Memekast is officially back in action, and to kick off 2009, we brought the HEAT. Representing Daly City Records in California, we're delighted to present 40 minutes of all new, unreleased material from Mochipet. If you haven't heard of Mochipet through his work with artists like Spank Rock, Kid606, Ellen Alien, and Otto Von Schirach (on such labels as Tigerbeat6, Bpitchcontrol, or his own Daly City imprint), then perhaps you've read about him in the Village Voice, URB, XLR8R, or SF Bay Guardian. Or heard his tracks while you were watching Tony Hawk, Lance Mountain, or Ray Barbee on Fuel TV. Yeah, we didn't exactly discover this guy. But we're honored to share this exclusive set with our listeners.

Hailing from Detroit, Michigan, Todd Osborn aka Soundmurderer has gained a reputation as one of most exciting junglists to emerge from the US. Owner of the sought-after Rewind Records imprint, Todd set up the first ever drum 'n' bass store in Detroit, Dubplate Pressure. He was finally given the props he deserves through his colossal Wired For Sound mix CD, released on Tigerbeat6 sub-label Violent Turd in 2003, and has spent recent years dropping ballistic ragga-charged jungle sets from his laptop to crowds pretty much all over the place. Anyone following his musical trajectory will also know of his acid, house, booty, Detroit techno and experimental works on labels such as Spectral, Throw, TNT, Databass and ~scape. This set was recorded at Bashout in Bristol on 9 December 2006, when Soundmurderer played alongside DJ Hidden, Parasite and a host of other acts. Rising from the ashes of Bristol's mentalist Toxic Dancehall jams, Bashout dishes out a thunderous dose of bottom end therapy every few months at the city's legendary Black Swan venue.
