Moon is back from California and Mexico, Rizz is out, and naturally the captain's chair immediately becomes a command center for delayed flights, stale cereal, deviled eggs, celebrity nonsense, video games, and a surprisingly passionate takedown of Gladiator 2. Welcome to another funny podcast where we somehow start with Southwest Airlines and end up debating whether a Steve Perry look-alike can spiritually become Steve Perry if the crowd believes hard enough.Moon kicks things off with the glamorous realities of modern air travel after seemingly every flight on his trip decided that “on time” was more of a suggestion. A canceled connection, rerouting through Dallas, delays into Los Angeles and another delay getting back to St. Louis gave him plenty of time to catch up on movies. Unfortunately, that included The Mandalorian and Grogu, which gets a very enthusiastic C-minus review. Somewhere, a Star Wars fan just felt a disturbance in the Force. Then we discover that Americans apparently hit an energy wall around 2:48 in the afternoon, which explains basically every email you've ever received after lunch. Rafe's sleep schedule is wrecked, Lern is fighting afternoon cravings with hard-boiled eggs, and that leads to perhaps the most important culinary advice ever delivered on a funny podcast: if you've already hard-boiled the egg, you're halfway to a deviled egg.“Scoop and gloop,” America. That discussion somehow turns into stale cereal confessions. Lern admits to eating old strawberry vanilla Chex after band practice while Rafe reveals that he knowingly ate stale Pops AND stale Golden Grahams. This is less a morning show and more four adults slowly admitting things that should probably stay between themselves and their pantries. Then it's time for Crap on Celebrities, where things get appropriately ridiculous. A woman is accused of stealing and crashing an ambulance outside an Avenged Sevenfold and Good Charlotte concert. Sevendust drummer Morgan Rose gets some love. Gibson is releasing an extremely limited Billy Gibbons “Pearly Gates” Les Paul. Sean Ono Lennon welcomes his first child, making John Lennon and Yoko Ono grandparents for the first time. There's also a Matthew Perry documentary on the way, more Tulsa King, and the crew tries to understand the enormous world of people watching other people play video games.Speaking of gaming, Grand Theft Auto gets everybody talking about Twitch, streaming communities, gameplay fandoms, and the strange realization that watching someone else play a game can become an entire entertainment ecosystem. Scott even admits he made “multiple dollars” streaming, so please respect the media mogul.Hollywood keeps the nonsense rolling with Emmy gift bags, Marvel's mysterious Secret Wars casting, Hamnet, and Ridley Scott reportedly having some thoughts about Paul Mescal and Gladiator 2. That opens the floodgates because Rafe and Moon are more than happy to discuss just how much they hated that movie. Sharks in the Coliseum are put on trial. The verdict is not favorable. There's also a live-action Street Fighter movie coming with a completely unhinged cast, including Jason Momoa, 50 Cent, Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Eric André and more. Apparently somebody looked at the casting board and selected “yes.”Finally, Journey brings Steve Perry look-alike Hugo Valenti onstage during shows in Japan, causing some fans to apparently wonder whether the real Steve Perry had returned. The crew listens to the results, and that goes exactly as respectfully as longtime listeners would expect.Throw in birthdays, Terry Bradshaw, Keanu Reeves, Salma Hayek, Rafe's increasingly dangerous wordplay, and all the other nonsense that somehow qualifies as broadcasting, and you've got another funny podcast from The Rizzuto Show.Delayed flights. Moon kicks things off with the full report from the Cali Country Cruise, sailing from Long Beach to Ensenada, Mexico. The lineup included Tracy Lawrence, Gretchen Wilson, Jo Dee Messina, Chase Rice and plenty more, while Moon performed with Sullivan. There were some musical highs, some musical... let's call them learning opportunities... and the revelation that Jo Dee Messina may have discovered the ultimate cruise hack: perform before the ship leaves and then GET OFF THE BOAT.Gretchen Wilson, meanwhile, delivered one of Moon's highlights of the entire trip with a killer performance and band. Unfortunately, the actual cruise experience wasn't getting the same review. We're talking pricey Wi-Fi that barely worked, a balcony-room mix-up, limited excursion options, fake Cuban cigars, a stage built over the pool and a tiny backup pool populated by people who apparently had no interest in ever getting out. From there, this funny podcast turns into a tour of America's most overrated attractions. Four Corners gets roasted. Mount Rushmore gets called smaller than expected. Times Square takes a hit. The Las Vegas Strip lands at the top of the list. Lern also reveals she once got emotional seeing Chicago's Bean, proving once again that public art can be powerful when it looks like a gigantic piece of silver produce.A swimmer at Lake Tahoe reportedly gets attacked by an otter and requires 38 stitches, prompting Rafe to immediately begin defending the otter because apparently wildlife now has legal representation on The Rizzuto Show. Then there's a possible shark attack near the Massachusetts location associated with Jaws, followed by the deeply upsetting story of a woman waking from a dream about a mouse crawling toward her mouth... only to discover there was actually a BAT near her mouth. We also discover a Hawaiian shirt designed to confuse AI-powered surveillance cameras, which means Weird Al may have been preparing for the surveillance state this entire time.Missouri and Illinois get dragged into America's "worst vibes" rankings before the crew investigates which states hate each other the most. Missouri's answer? Kansas. Obviously. Centuries pass, civilizations rise and fall, and Missouri will apparently still find time to be annoyed by Kansas.Moon kicks things off with the glamorous realities of modern air travel after seemingly every flight on his trip decided that “on time” was more of a suggestion. Derek Pacqué drove three hours from Manhattan to The Haussman Resort, Pool Club and Smokehouse on Long Island for Friday Night Audit. In LIE traffic, you know it's bad when the cars start passing you, then a horse and buggy passes you, then an elderly woman with a walker passes you. That's Friday in the summer on Long Island. Derek made it anyway.   He runs Chexology, the bag and valet check company you'll find at 1,200+ venues — the Mets, MoMA, Barclays Center, TD Garden, the O2 in London. It started as a coat check hustle in Indiana college bars, because drunk people are bad at holding onto tickets. Then he went on Shark Tank ABC and turned down the investors.   Somewhere in there, my cat made a break for the front door. Breaking news, as we called it on air.   His colleague Neil Upadhyay joined from #Vegas with the best line of the night: after a rival's bag-check system fell apart so badly staff walked off and police started holding people's Birkin bags, Chexology got the call. Nothing sells a hospitality product like "the last guys lost custody of designer handbags to the LVPD."   We closed, as one does, with me cannonballing into the pool and someone threatening to throw the laptop in after me.   #FridayNightAudit. Happy hour, hospitality news, zero dignity.   Want the weekly roundup of news, videos, and what you might've missed from #NoVacancyNews? Text HOTEL to 66866.

Yesterday, I talked about all of the grocery store displays of Chex cereals around the holidays so people can make homemade Chex Mix. Of course, there's something else people make with the Chex cereal this time of year, and that's Muddy Buddies. You might also know them as Puppy Chow or Reindeer Chow. Sure, they may be known by a few different names. But anytime you mix chocolate, peanut butter, and powdered sugar with Chex cereals, you get a tasty treat. The only downside is the fact that they're so messy. They're delicious, but you'll definitely need to keep plenty of napkins on hand... If you've been to the grocery store lately, I'm sure you've seen the displays of all the Chex cereals. It happens every year around this time because so many people like to make Chex Mix for the holidays. You can buy it prepackaged in a bag year-round, but we all know it's not the same thing. And while I don't mind the Chex Mix, I actually still prefer it as a breakfast cereal. I've been eating Wheat Chex, Corn Chex, and Rice Chex for a long time. In 1952, Ralston Purina first published a recipe for its now-famous Chex™ party mix as an advertisement in Life magazine. Although few people now make Chex™ mix (or any party mix) from scratch — especially since the advent of a pre-packaged version in 1985 — in this Iron Ladle Challenge, Erin, Sarah and Rachel are bringing back homemade party mixes.   With fun add-ins like Goldfish crackers and Sriracha, a preponderance of butter, and cups (and cups) of dry cereal, these fresh takes on classic recipes will inspire both nostalgia and creativity — just in time for the holiday season.  Erin's Spicy Sweet Tropical Party Mix Makes enough to fill 1 extra-large jade green Tupperware container (274-12) from the 80's. Combine in a very large bowl: 9 c assorted Chex™ cereals 3 c Bugles 2 c lightly salted peanuts 1.5 c small pretzels 2 c banana chips Heat in a small saucepan: 12 T butter 6 T Worcestershire sauce ½ c honey ½ c sriracha 1 t garlic powder 2 t salt When the butter is melted, transfer to a jar with a secure lid and shake well to fully combine the WORSHUSHER and sriracha with the melted butter. Pour the about a third of the liquid gold over the dry ingredients and stir gently, but thoroughly. Pour another portion of the tasty goodness over the cereal and such and stir. Finally, pour the last of the molten flavor over the crunchy bits and stir well, but don't crush the mixture. Spread the buttery mix onto two large cookie sheets. Bake at 275° for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes. After 45 minutes, stir once more and increase to 325° and bake for 15 minutes. Remove from oven and let cool. The mix will crisp up as it cools. It will fit perfectly in your grandmother's big green Tupperware container. Optional: if your party people enjoy spice, you can sprinkle on some chili powder or cayenne when it finishes baking. But use caution. There are no takebacks with cayenne. Rachel's Kid-Friendly Party Mix View this image of the original Chex™ Mix on the Wheat Chex™ box!  The Original Chex™ Party Mix | Nuts and Bolts Snack Mix Recipe  Adjustments:  Remove peanuts and/or mixed nuts. Half of my kids don't see the point. Replace with Goldfish crackers.   Add 1 cup parmesan crisps. (So good, especially when baked with Worcestershire sauce.)  Replace bagel chips/rye chips with oyster crackers (regrettably), since my local grocery doesn't sell these items separately from premade party mixes.*  Note for next time: Increase the butter. Maybe even double it.   *This wasn't as tasty as I thought it would be. If I do this again and still can't find bagel chips, I'll just swap in an extra cup of Chex™, or try a different add-in altogether.    Sarah's Puppy Chow Party Mix My inspiration is from this recipe from Bon Appetit: bonappetit.com/recipe/puppy-chow-party-mix   Yield Makes about 5 quarts (YES FIVE QUARTS)  Ingredients  1 12-ounce box Rice Chex™ cereal (about 10 cups)  7 ounces bittersweet chocolate (70% cacao), chopped (about 1¼ cups)  ¾ cup creamy peanut butter  ¼ cup (½ stick) unsalted butter  1½ teaspoons kosher salt  1 teaspoon vanilla extract  2½ cups powdered sugar, divided  Add-ins 2 cups rye chips 2 cups butterscotch chips 2 cups thin pretzel sticks  Directions Place cereal in a large bowl. Heat chocolate, peanut butter, butter, and salt in a medium heatproof bowl set over a saucepan of barely simmering water (do not let bowl touch water), stirring, until chocolate is melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla. Pour chocolate mixture over cereal and toss with 2 spoons or spatulas until coated. Let cool slightly, about 10 minutes.  Transfer cereal mixture to a large clean bowl (so powdered sugar doesn't absorb into chocolate coating from original bowl). Sift ½ cup powdered sugar through a fine-mesh sieve onto cereal, coating entire surface. Toss to coat. Repeat 2 more times.  Transfer cereal mixture to 2 parchment-lined sheet trays, spreading evenly. Sift ½ cup powdered sugar over both trays (do not mix). Chill 2 hours or let sit at room temperature overnight (break into individual pieces, but leave some clumps, if sitting out overnight).  Transfer cereal mixture and powdered sugar from sheet trays to a large clean bowl and toss to coat. Sift remaining ½ cup powdered sugar over and toss to coat again. Add rye chips, butterscotch chips, and pretzels; toss to combine.  Do Ahead: Puppy chow can be made 2 days ahead. Store in an airtight container at room-temperature.  Connect with the Lutheran Ladies on social media in The Lutheran Ladies' Lounge Facebook discussion group (facebook.com/groups/LutheranLadiesLounge) and on Instagram @lutheranladieslounge.
