In this special collaborative episode with Dance or Die, I'm talking to Derrick Estrada, better known in the worlds of breakcore, hardcore, jungle and sonic synthesis as Baseck. Baseck was raised in Lancaster, California halfway between the Angeles National Forest and the Mojave Desert. As a youth he became intoxicated by car bass test CDs, scratch records, jungle mixtapes, gangster rap, and illegal raves. Put this all in a blender with DIY punk, Chicano subculture and a battle mentality and you get halfway to what Baseck is about. Sometimes Baseck is playing wild shows that combine turntablism, live hardware, modded gameboys and thrash vocals; sometimes he is throwing raves, designing clothes, doing noise shows at the museum, or making synth modules. He's collaborated with Boys Noize, Charli XCX, A.G. Cook and Zach de la Rocha and recorded for too many labels to name. He calls in from his current home in Tulsa, Oklahoma to talk about cutty L.A. raves, Midwest hardcore, sonic transformation and how he became a warrior of the breaks. Coretex【TOKYO, JAPAN】 Hong Kong Violence Coretex started his career as a DJ in 2017. His style of play is based on extreme hardcore, mixing various hard sounds such as Hip Hop, Hard Techno, and Breakcore, which always overwhelms the floor. He is also active as the leader of RADICAL, a party centered on hardcore. The first event invited Terrorcore, the king of UK Industrial, Akira, and Hellfish, and led to the success of Fish and Rice's first live show in Japan. He started creating music in 2020. He has released Tokio Phonk EP and The Suicide Soda EP from his Dutch Hardcore Techno label, Hong Kong Violence, and has also released tracks on Nekrolog1k Recordings, Prototypes Records, Sealand Recordings, Prototypes Records, and Sealand Recordings. In 2023, he released BODY BAG EP with Japanese producer unit OVER KILL (FUJI TRILL & KNUX), rirugiliyangugili, and 042ghxst. He also officially remixed songs by Red Eye, Jin Dogg, YuruFuwa Gang, jinmenusagi, SANTAWORLDVIEW, and Yokai Jaki produced by OVER KILL and included them on the EP, creating a huge buzz in the Japanese Hip Hop scene. In 2024, they also performed at the world's largest outdoor hardcore festival, DOMINATOR, held in the Netherlands. Enfant de la techno hardcore et de la jungle des années 90, ce rejeton malformé s'épanouit en échantillonnant les rythmes à leur paroxysme, le tout en dépassant régulièrement les 180 bpm. Malgré le fait que ça breake dans tous les sens de manière hallucinatoire, le manque de sérieux en surface cache à peine la réalité d'une production de lapidaire par ces artistes un peu fous. S'ensuit une expérience d'écoute évidemment exutoire et maximaliste, mais aussi une plongée dans des territoires bien plus riches et complexes qu'une première écoute pourrait, à juste titre, le laisser penser. Born in 1985. Sylek started to mix Detroit and Jungle in 97' with his Stepbrother. Then he discovered Hardcore and Breakcore. After meeting Dj Elgrin and Mc Stone in a DnB party, they decided to join their forces to create Neurocide Records. They organized a lot of parties with famous artists like Dj Hidden, Donny and Enduser to name a few, until 2019. DBI-CORP has always been passionate about electronic music. Starting his career by mixing DnB, Jungle and Breakcore with his best friend Hichem a.k.a. MC Ddm when they were 16 years old, he managed to play at RKC Club for the parties “Chaise electrique” by Organik Crew, which he joined in 2003 and left in 2011 when they decided to stop the organization.
