This week's topic is the God Hates Us All cycle. Two weeks ago, all listeners learned about drummer Paul Bostaph's return to the band. Jon Dette got the boot. Spoiler: We haven't seen the last of him. And y'all learned about "No Remorse," their collaboration with German digital hardcore group Atari Teenage Riot. Last week, Patreon supporters heard all about the album Dee-ah-BOL-us in Musica, Slayer's polarizing foray into nü metal, which still rips pretty hard. This week: God Hates Us All, Slayer's remarkably timed first album of the 21st century. Ferris is an award-winning writer. He has worked for Rolling Stone, Alternative Press, The AV Club, and Decibel magazine. He is a fan. He has opinions. He is the author of something like nine books, depending how you count them. Two are about Slayer. The first one is an entire book about the classic thrash album Reign in Blood, which is part of the fairly prestigious 33 1/3 book series. His bigger Slayer book, though, is the 2023 update of the full-on band biography "Slayer 66 & 2/3: A Metal Band Biography, POSTMORTEM Edition." (This is the third edition; it was previously known as "Slayer 66 & 2/3: The Jeff and Dave Years...."). And that book is mostly what he'll be talking about when we're talkin' Slayer. Most episodes are audio adaptations of chapters from that book. Some have original and/or bonus material. Thank you for checking it out. Learn more at... Today's topic — today's five topics — are 1. Paul Bostaph's quick return to the band, and 2. Slayer's collaboration with German digital hardcore/techno band Atari Teenage Riot. Then because those are short, you get a little taste of two episodes that are exclusives for Patreon supporters: 3. Learn about some early album artwork. 4. And learn what Slayer and Minor Threat dudes had to say about each other. 5. THEN a long, sludgy, sexxy, siren-call co-ed cover of "War Ensemble" by all-star stone squad SLOWER. Thomas Meyer-Falk is Free! We're sharing here a recent conversation that I had with Thomas Meyer-Falk, an anarchist who just finished a 27 year prison stint in Germany to speak about his life, his incarceration and his hopes now that he's out. Thomas was involved in a bank robbery in 1996 as a young RASH anarchist skinhead who hoped to fund above ground and underground leftist organizing and continued to be incarcerated for the threats he made upon his capture. While inside he toned it down a bit, became a jailhouse lawyer of sorts and built connections with publishing projects, support groups and a radio station on the outside. He's now out and working at that radio station in Freiberg, RDL, and hopes to be come involved in helping immigrants navigate the legal system in Germany. You can find his blog, mostly in German, at https://freedomforthomas.wordpress.com. You can also find some of his writings in Fire Ant Journal. Announcement Fundraiser for Zolo Azania A quick reminder, there's a fundraising effort ongoing to help former Black Liberation Fighter and political prisoner, Zolo Agona Azania (who we've featured a couple of times on this show) could use some support. Since he's been out of prison after 35 years inside, he's been an active community organizer on projects including re-entry for formerly incarcerated folks and offering pro bono legal help to folks still behind bars. He's in need of some support with car repair payments to help him keep his wage job and keep doing his support work. You can donate to him on cashapp via the handle $ZoloAzania5, on zelle using azaniazolo5 at gmail dot com or on venmo using @zolo-azania To find more anti-repression fundraisers needing support and boosting, check out the column on ItsGoingDown.Org called In Contempt, where you can also find info on prisoners who've just been moved, have upcoming birthdays or who are in need of other help. . ... . .. Atari Teenage Riot - Speed (Delete Yourself, 1994) Sample: Powermad - Slaughterhouse Disciples of Annihilation - NYC Speedcore (DOA Muthafucking New York Hardcore, 1996) Sample: Type O Negative - Summer Breeze Lenny Dee - Fucking Hostile (The Outside Agency remix) (2012) Sample: Pantera - Fucking Hostile Deformer & Ice-T - Metal Breakdown (Inner Outcast, 2020) Igorrr & Bong-Ra - Pallbearer (2013) Counterstrike - Extreme Mutilation (VIP, 2011) Samples: Hatebreed, Godflesh TDC Inc - The Blackest Plague (2023) Zwaar Aanbevolen Von Mollestein - Zwartnacht (The order of the Fist, 2023) ‘Aggrotech meets black metal'. Ja. Hier zit potentie in.
Mike Sarkisyan of Spineshank joins Toomey and Ro to discuss all aspects of The Height of Callousness. The guys start the show with a trip down memory lane of how each other met one another and Spineshank being on Roadrunner Records. Mike talks about the album cover artwork, the actors and models in the photos and Fear Factory comparisons. Ro discusses a video treatment that he had and Mike shares his own video treatments. Was this album "cyber kids mainlining Jack Daniels"? Mike talks the writing process, the story of stolen gear that forced them off the road to start the album process and Atari Teenage Riot influences. He discusses what he was listening to at the time, why they went with GGGarth Richardson and playing tons of Goldeneye. Funny tour stories from OzzFest, wrestling Wedge and people thinking Santos' name was Spineshank. The guys go track for track on the album and Mike tells stories for every song. They finish the episode talking about Mike's Dore Vodka.

Name a genre, and you can bet that Luis Garban has tried his hand at it once or twice. Once a staple of the mid-'00s IDM and breakcore scene—think Tigerbeat6—as Cardopusher, Garban found a temporary home in the dubstep scene afterwards, before shooting off in what felt like a million directions. He might be the only artist to release on both Hyperdub and Boysnoize Records. He makes music that can sound like the future or the past, sometimes both at once, and the Venezuelan-born, Spain-based producer's name is shorthand for musical adventurism and variety. Last year, things got even wilder with the debut of Safety Trance, a new alias that explores pan-Latin club music, with a focus on collaboration and shorter, structured songs. (Artists he's worked with include Arca, Iceboy Violet and Virgen Maria.) It's some of the best and most creative work of his career, riding a larger Latin techno wave producing some of the best music around these days. If that weren't enough, returning to Cardopusher, Garban has a career-best EP on the way for EVAR Records, pulling together the various strands of the project into a multi-genre, Gen-Z-friendly raveathon. Loaded with original tracks from both projects, RA Podcast could be billed as Cardopusher vs. Safety Trance, with highlights coming from Atari Teenage Riot, VTSS and Venetian Snares, which should give you an idea for the kind of controlled chaos you're in for with this one. @cardopusher Read more at https://ra.co/podcast/867

For the eleventh episode, Aaron takes us to Eswatini, an African country bordered by South Africa and Mozambique that was known by a different name until just a few short years ago. Parallels to the story of Lesotho (Episode 7) abound in this nearby nation, which was the dominion of a king who set several records in at least the modern world, if not all of history. di Francesco del Gratta | Dal krautrock alla classica contemporanea, in un Paese dove la musica è sistema.
Singer/Songwriter Violent Vickie and Comedian/Actor Jamie Gendron joined Mark for quite a spirited and dance-able show. Vickie talked about growing up as a nice church going girl who even studied opera until she found the riotgrrrl movement when she went to college in Santa Cruz. She started with an 80s drum machine she got from ebay for $40 and has since flourished with a sound which combines punk, goth, Industrial, EDM, shoegaze, trip hop and dream pop and a career that has led her to open for Hanin of Atari Teenage Riot (leading Mark to unwittingly and hilariously misidentify her gender) and Missing Persons and perform at Occupancy Portland. She plays her new song "Serotonin" and a VV classic "Men". Jamie is always the life of the party and reflects on seeing her ex-lover Eddie Murphy EVERYWHERE the last year due to his comeback. Last time she was on the show she beat a submissive mercilessly only to have that submissive thank her by giving her an extravagant photo shoot too sexy to use as head shots. Jamie is about to shoot her part in a new sitcom where she will portray a bikini model alongside actresses half her age. This show is brought to you byAudible. New York writer Charlie Markbreiter (@BerlantBro) has written about contemporary art, humor, and edgelordism for The New Inquiry, Artforum, Baffler, Momus, and Garage, among others. On this week’s episode, we talked about their interest in comedy and humorlessness; a recent interview they conducted with scholar Lauren Berlant; why the NYMPHOWARS podcast subverts right wing and liberal expectations; gimmickry, social justice, and being annoying; and the impotent self-destruction of Jackass. The outro music is “Delete Yourself!” by Atari Teenage Riot. This week, Steve and Remfry pay tribute to Scott Walker who passed away on Monday. An innovative and uncompromising artist whose career encompassed everything from 1960s pop to a collaboration with hooded Seattle doom-merchants Sunn O))), Walker was a huge influence on a diverse range of artists including Radiohead, Pulp, Cult of Luna, David Bowie, Brian Eno, Goldfrapp, Opeth and Leonard Cohen. In much better news, the boys discuss the incredibly exciting announcement that Machine Head will be back with original members Logan Mader and Chris Kontos to play their colossal 1994 debut album Burn My Eyes in full. They also review new albums from UNKLE, Whitechapel, Brutus and The Pirate Ship Quintet and trade-off comes courtesy of Broken Bells and Atari Teenage Riot. After her family moved to Berlin, Hanin Elias ran away from home and into the city’s punk and hardcore scene. In 1992 she formed Atari Teenage Riot with Alec Empire and MC Carl Crack, fusing punk and techno into what they termed digital hardcore. In 1999, Elias left the band and focused on solo work and championing female and female-identifying artists through her label Fatal Recordings. Here, Elias retraces her steps from punk squats to festival stages and onwards to a lasting independent career.
Following the fall of the Berlin Wall, a young Alec Empire looked to the rebellious sounds of techno, acid house and punk to inform a new project: Atari Teenage Riot. The trio debuted in 1992 and became notorious for its self-styled digital hardcore sound. When ATR split in 2000, the group and its founder had become household names beyond their humble beginnings. In this episode recorded as part of the Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp Berlin 2017, Empire recalls the city's reunification years and more.

Progressive Rock ensemble APE SHIFTER will be releasing their self-titled debut album in March 2017! APE SHIFTER is all instrumental and reaches from rockin' 70's riffs played with punk rock ferocity to creeping metal grooves. Intense Simian Instrumental Rock from the nasty pits of the Hellabrunn Zoo. Born on Friday the 13th in Washington, D.C. and raised in Laurel, Maryland, Jeff Aug is a cool underground guitarist who lives at the foothills of the Alps in Southern Germany for the last 18 years. He has toured with Allan Holdsworth, Soft Machine, Johnny A., Albert Lee, and has performed shows with Jawbox, Shudder To Think, and Ice-T & Bodycount with his old band. He's worked with John Stabb from Government Issue, has been touring and recording with Anne Clark for the last 10+ years, and has been touring as a solo guitarist for the last 20+ years. Jeff can also be heard on the Atari Teenage Riot album “Is This Hyperreal?” (Dim Mak Records / Digital Hardcore Records). Jeff is also a Guinness™ world record holder setting the world record for the “most concerts performed in different countries in 24 hours” twice (2009, 2012)!
The creator of digital hardcore on how to start a riot.
My guest this week is CX KIDTRONIK. He’s a producer, DJ, vocalist and videographer with a musical resume that goes back to the 80’s. We first got to know each other when he contributed to my Height With Friends Versus The Continental MC’s album. We talk about his childhood in Madison, WI and the hip-hop and hardcore punk that influenced him there. I ask him about his collaborations with Atari Teenage Riot, Saul Williams, Rammellzee and Kanye West and what he took away from those experiences. We also discuss releasing his two Krak Attack albums through Stones Throw Records, working as a fetish clip director and his new Sewer Rats BK project. Mike Riley’s art this week is an homage to Mantronix’s In Full Effect. This episode is hosted by Splice Today.
Atari Teenage Riot's 1995 album Delete Yourself! was supposed to be at the start of the wave that would usher the end of guitar music and a takeover by synths, samples and drum machines. That didn't exactly happen, however plenty of interesting albums were released during that time, and we're checking out the German trio's self-described “digital hardcore” debut. How are contemporary pop culture ideas about resilience used by Neoliberal capitalism? Robin James addresses this question using philosophy of music (and by doing philosophy through music) in her new book Resistance and Melancholy: Pop Music, Feminism, and Neoliberalism (Zero Books, 2015). The book opens with a discussion of Calvin Harris (& Florence Welch’s) Sweet Nothing as a way into theargument that ‘resilience discourse is what ties contemporary pop music aesthetics to neoliberal capitalism and racism/sexism’. James combines musicological analysis of specific techniques, such as soars, stutters and stops, with an exploration of the aesthetics of pop videos and a critical theoretical framework. In particular the book connects theories of biopower and biopolitics, along a critical take on gender and ethnicity, to the work of Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Rihanna. The text also offers a consideration of alternatives, whether those that have already been incorporatedinto contemporary pop, such the techniques and sounds of Atari Teenage Riot, or new strategies and new forms that might be beyond profit, beyond capital, and represent ‘bad investments’ to suck the life fromMulti-Racial White Supremacist Patriarchy. The book will interest a range of humanities and social science scholars, as well as anyone keen to know more about popular music and critical theory.

Kris Keogh is a musician and producer from Arnhem Land, NT, intent making the most beautiful noise possible, any way he can. In the case of his latest release, this means making hyper-glitched processed harp works under his own name, influenced as much by Ravel and Debussy as Aphex Twin and Atari Teenage Riot. He joins Stu Buchanan to talk about the new album, 'Processed Harp Works Vol. 1'.

Show #103 goes BUCKWILD with plenty of rants from Macedonia and music from M.I.A., Madvillain, Atari Teenage Riot, Youngblood Brass Band, Jonny Sonic, and lots more. this episode is NOT WORKSAFE.
Our eleventh podast is from party noise makers, Prinzenallee. Named after the street where they lived and recorded, Prinzenallee are bleubird (vocals/noise) and Jayrope (music). Hopping and hooting and hollering and banging immediately began after meeting in Berlin in early 2008. This previously mentioned racket led to the two performing a last minute improv set at the kick-off party for the Goldmund Festival and due to its great success they were quickly asked to perform another improv set during the festival itself. The second improv set didn’t work out as nicely as the first so they decided to hurry home and write some songs. File under: Sidetracked Hiphop, Rap, Noiserock, Electronic. bleubird is a hungry-hungry rapper from Florida, USA who ate too many Dead kennedy’s and 2live crew records and made his name touring relentlessly and releasing albums on Endemik Music out of Montreal. Jayrope is the child of two pipe organ players, which sentenced him to be audiotic ever after. Ever after, then, includes having been the main recording engineer for Atari Teenage Riot and releasing two albums on the DHR sublabel Geist Records under the name Rope. This project was born out of their mutual disdain for music they do not hear on the radio. They exist within their own West German Turkish ghetto Utopia and that is cooler than cool. SONG 1 – intro SONG 2 – piano motherfucker! SONG 3 – don't let nerds take over your life(jayrope booty mix) SONG 4 – Sobo(Scott Da Ros remix) SONG 5 – live in Berlin Sep 2009 SONG 6 – haiku (to fuck to) semi-live in copenhagen Feb 2010 SONG 7 – drunk on movement live in copenhagen Feb 2010 SONG 8 – horny electro free jazz SONG 9 – live hippie jam copenhagen/dresden 2024 SONG 10 – laser metal dogs SONG 11 – your party's burning (live/studio mix) SONG 12 – reverse party burn disco

Oh how I hate power outages. You get a slightly shorter episode this week thanks to us losing about 30 mins worth of topics thanks to my shoddy power strip. COD4, a summer of superhero movies, and techno music is discussed. Random as hell. Learn to lie.
