Lucky for you, Miss Thang, this episode is a real scream for Friday the 13th (in October)! Mark welcomes horror experts Tim Murdock & Matt Emert from the Happy Horror Time podcast to take a trip to spooky Pendelton University and celebrate the 25th anniversary of Urban Legend! The Jamie Blanks slasher came after Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, and was released in theaters on September 25th, 1998 starring a cast of familiar faces from both TV (Jordan Catalano!) and horror classics (Chucky and Freddy!). They discuss the over-the-top performances and great dialogue, along with the importance of hair in this movie, from a blonde Joshua Jackson to a redhead leading lady to those campy curls. Plus, Loretta Devine steals our hearts and saves the day as an underrated final girl! And how many times did Tim see this in the theater? Listen if you dare!
The Exorcist is #228 on the IMDb Top 250 Movie List as of August 2023 (the number may differ based on when you listen). "In my dreams I'm beautiful... and Baaad." We watched A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors (1987) with our friends Tim Murdock and Matt Emert from the podcast Happy Horror Time and we need to get some sleep - Ándale! We covered "the gay one"(NOES2) and "the MTV one" (NOES4) and now we're here to talk about the critically aclaimed one. The start of the "dream trilogy" brings back Freddy's original Final Girl Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) as a hot-shot grad student who studies dreams. Kristen Parker (Patricia Arquette) and her fellow troubled teens are the last of the Elm Street Kids and are fighting for their lives (literally) as Freddy is taking them down one by one. We get some radical 80's dream-logic sequences featuring punk rock chicks, D&D wizardry and bodacious nurses - all set to a hair metal soundtrack lead by Dokken and their title track Dream Warriors (which still slaps). The first in the Nightmare "Dream trilogy" is by far the best and quite possibly the most quotable of the entire franchise. "Welcome to prime time, bitch!" The Turkey Hunter Podcast with Andy Gagliano | Turkey Hunting Tips, Strategies, and Stories
Great Stories, Positive Attitudes, and Box Calls with Tim Murdock This week, Tim Murdock from West Virginia joins Cameron and me on the show to share his story along with a few turkey hunting stories as well. Tim turkey hunted for many years before completely losing his eyesight after having 2 different and rare eye diseases. Tim thought his days of turkey hunting were over until some fellow turkey hunters devoted time and resources to helping Tim to not only get back into turkey hunting, but actually kill a couple more turkeys. Listen in to Tim's inspirational story, a couple of awesome turkey hunting stories, and then his amazing box calling tips that he shares with us at the end of the interview. This is sure to be one of your favorite episodes. I know it is definitely one of mine!
“Ladies’ Choice” (November 10, 1992) Ninety episodes later, we dared to venture back to Roseanne. How does its legacy of LGBT advocacy hold up all these years later — and in light of the show’s namesake’s hard right turn into all manner of Trumpy badness? Glen and Drew have their takes, but that ultimate decision is up to you. However, this episode represents a milestone in representation as it makes Sandra Bernhard’s Nancy a queer part of the show for seasons to come. Listen to our previous episode about Roseanne. Listen to Roseanne writer Stan Zimmerman share his stories about Sandra Bernhard in our interview with him. And if you need more Morgan Fairchild in your life, listen to the Monday Afternoon Movie episode about The Initiation of Sarah. Do you like scary movies? We watched Scream (1996) with the always hilarious Tim Murdock (Happy Horror Time) and who says it has to be October to watch horror movies? The slasher that changed the genre forever, Scream embraced everything that was tired and cliche in horror and made it fresh for a new generation of horror fans... and gays everywhere rejoiced. Was quirky video store clerk Randy (Jamie Kennedy) a coded gay character? Were Billy (Skeet Ulrich) and Stu (Matthew Lillard) a little too “close” for comfort? Was Casey (Drew Barrymore) wearing a wig? The answers to all these and more, lie in Episode 61 of Movies That Made Us Gay!
