James, Rocco and Darragha are back after a beautiful Friday night at Elland Road as Leeds United beat Burnley 3-1 to move up to 14th and on to 43 points - the kind of total that's never seen a Premier League side relegated. Anton Stach opened the scoring with a stunning left-footed strike from outside the box (his fourth goal from range this season), Dominic Calvert-Lewin's outrageous back-heel set up Noah Okafor for a glorious Bogle assist, and DCL bundled in his 13th of the season to put the game beyond Mike Jackson's interim Burnley side. We break down the perfect Stach goal in slow motion, debate whether Calvert-Lewin is now Rocco's favourite striker since Tony Yeboah, and reflect on the form run since the Manchester City defeat - 12 points from 21, including the win at Old Trafford and the Wembley FA Cup semi-final alongside it. There's full appreciation of Daniel Farke's elite-level Premier League management, a debate about the referee, and a look at how Leeds have quietly become one of the best-organised sides in the league. Then it's on to Tottenham away on Monday 11th May, with the small matter of Spurs being in the relegation zone, on their third manager of the season under Roberto De Zerbi, and missing roughly half their squad to injury (Simons, Solanke, Kudus, Odobert, Kulusevski, Romero, Vicario, Maddison and more). Plus: the man who lost his watch in the stand, Michael Jackson on the tannoy at full-time, Dara's surprise summer transfer pick to bring back to Elland Road, and why this Leeds squad genuinely wants to be here. 00:00 Welcome and Bass & Bligh 02:07 Reaction to a beautiful night at Elland Road 06:27 Stach's stunning opener 10:19 DCL's back-heel and Okafor's finish 15:11 Calvert-Lewin appreciation 19:14 The third goal and Farke's "43 points" line 23:23 The watch, Michael Jackson and a full moon 27:01 Struijk's error and the referee debate 30:37 Spurs preview: the injury apocalypse 34:05 Summer ahead and Farke is elite 39:24 Dara's curveball: bring Rutter back 42:11 Final thoughts and sign-off

Teddy Draper is joined by Charlie Eccleshare, Jack Rosser and Carl Anka to reflect on the weekend's sporting action. We kick things off by talking Man City and Arsenal, as the title race tightens heading into the final stretch. Is it really City's to lose, as Jack claims? Carl's backing Arsenal to drag themselves over the line.Next, to De Zerbi's new-look Spurs — Simmons' stunner cancelled out by Rutter's last-minute equaliser as Brighton snatched a 1–1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Despite dropping points at home, was this Spurs' best performance of the year? And finally it's on to Manchester United, who picked up a huge win at Stamford Bridge thanks to Cunha's strike — a result that dents Chelsea's Champions League hopes. Carl highlights Ayden Heaven's “meat and potatoes” defending, alongside another standout display from Bruno Fernandes as he closes in on the Premier League assists record.-•You can watch the sporting action live on Sky Sports. Stoppage-time heartbreak. Again. Spurs threw away two points at home on Saturday as Georginio Rutter stole in to make it 2-2, denying Tottenham a first Premier League win in 15 games and keeping us firmly rooted in the relegation zone. Five games to save our season. Gary, Jake and Adam are in the studio tonight to pick over the bones of Roberto De Zerbi's home debut. Pedro Porro's opener, Kaoru Mitoma's first-half equaliser, Xavi Simons' brilliant strike that should have sealed it, and Kevin Danso's costly lapse in the fifth minute of added time that let Rutter in. We'll talk about the performance, the selection, Lucas Bergvall's impact off the bench, and where De Zerbi goes from here with survival hanging by a thread. And the phones are open. This is a live phone-in, so get involved. Whether you're still clinging to hope, bracing for relegation, or somewhere in between, we want to hear from you. According to Bader Rutter CEO David Jordan, a brand's ultimate goal should be to become the reflex choice of consumers. The ultimate way to achieve that is by establishing mental equity. Think of it as an equation: Belief + Behavior = Mental Equity. During this discussion, Jordan highlights two recent campaigns — including a 2026 PRWeek Awards finalist in the Best in B2B category — to illustrate this innovative marketing approach, one that has reaped impressive and measurable benefits to the brands involved. There are many men who lived alongside William Shakespeare in turn of the 17th century England, but today's featured contemporary is a man who served as King James' ambassador to Venice in the 1600s. This man was named Henry Wotton. At grammar school, he received the same humanist education as Shakespeare, but unlike Shakespeare, Henry went on to university, studying at Oxford where he was tutored by Alberico Gentili, the man who was just then publishing the first handbook on international diplomacy. After graduation, Wotton spent five years travelling across Europe, stacking up experience that gained him employment, after which he returned to England to serve as personal secretary Robert Devereux, Earl of Essex. That life abruptly ended when Wotton fled England after the 'Essex Rebellion' that cost Devereux his life. But a chance encounter brought Wotton to the attention of the man who, within months, would claim the English throne. King James recalled Wotton from exile -- and immediately sent him ambassador to Venice. Here today to share the remarkable story of Sir Henry Wotton—a man whose real-life adventures in diplomacy were unfolding even as Shakespeare was staging ambassadors on the London stage and setting his plays amid the politics of Venice—is our guest, Professor Carol Chillington Rutter, author of Lying abroad: Henry Wotton and the invention of diplomacy. In her book, Dr. Rutter explores the extraordinary life of the man King James I called his "honest dissembler"—a maverick diplomat who fled England in disgrace, only to return and redefine the very art of diplomacy in ways that still influence international relations today.

Of all living composers, perhaps none are more closely associated with the sound of Christmas than John Rutter and Bob Chilcott. Earlier this year, both marked milestone birthdays - Rutter turned 80 and Chilcott 70. A few days before Christmas, we caught up with them to talk about carols, choirs, and the enduring magic of the season.Jimmy Lai is one of Hong Kong's most prominent critics of the Beijing government: a media tycoon, democracy campaigner, and a Roman Catholic. The 78-year-old British citizen has been in prison since December 2020 and is now, after last week's guilty verdicts, facing the possibility of spending the rest of his life in prison. In her first interview with UK media, his daughter Claire Lai, tells the BBC's Danny Vincent she fears her father may become a martyr. 'Before The Millennium'- a Christmas production by Karim Khan. It's set in a Woolworths store in 1999, the year Ramadan and the Christmas season coincided. It explores the friendship between two migrant women during the festive season. Muslim writers and performers like Karim are telling stories of faith, friendship and everyday life as British Muslims, and fringe theatre has become an increasingly important platform for them.Presenter: Emily Buchanan Producers: Bara'atu Ibrahim & Catherine Murray Studio Managers: Mike Smith & Patrick Shaw Editor: Tim Pemberton
“What sweeter music can we bring / Than a carol for to sing / The birth of this our heavenly king.” The lines of this 17th century poem “What Sweeter Music” were reimagined by modern-day choral composer John Rutter to become an Advent season favorite. Its gentle melody describes a long, cold season of waiting that’s thawed by the springtime feeling of Jesus’ arrival. The singers bring Him a Christmas carol; the listeners are invited to bring their hearts. Rutter’s arrangement was commissioned to correspond with a church reading on the wise men who brought Him gold, frankincense, and myrrh. These mysterious magi traveled a great distance to meet baby Jesus with the express purpose of worshiping him (Matthew 2:1-2). God gave them wisdom to keep Jesus’ location a secret from wicked King Herod. When they finally found Him, they “were overjoyed” (v. 10). They bowed down in reverence. Then “they opened their treasures” to lay precious resources at His feet (v. 11). The Christmas season shouldn’t be focused on material goods—but it’s certainly about giving and receiving gifts. God gave His Son to heal a broken world. If we’ve never given Him our hearts, today’s a wonderful day to do so. If He already reigns there, let’s offer a carol of peace and joy as we think about His arrival all those years ago in Bethlehem—and wait for His return.

One of the most-performed composers of our time, Sir John Rutter, celebrates his 80th birthday on September 24. To mark the occasion Harmonia Mundi has released an album of his choral music sung by the Choir of Clare College, Cambridge, directed by Graham Ross – ‘John Rutter: A Clare College Celebration'. And next week Decca releases an all-orchestral collection, ‘Reflections', that includes a performance of Rutter's piano concerto, which gives the album its title. Rutter himself conducts the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with Steven Osborne the piano soloist. James Jolly went to visit Sir John at his home to talk about the new releases but also reflect on his long association with Clare College, and much else.

This episode was originally published on February 5th, 2024. My guest this week is Charity Rutter [39:50], a great friend and longtime guide in the Great Smoky Mountains. She and her husband Ian have just finished a great book (I read the manuscript and loved it) and although it won't be available until April, you can pre-order it here: https://randrflyfishing.com/store/fly-fishing-guide-to-great-smoky-mountains-national-park/ Charity shares her secrets for making more out of your time on small waters, and although she concentrates on her area, she has fished small streams throughout North America and her tips will help you no matter where you fish. In the Fly Box this week we have a nice assortment of questions and tips on fly fishing and fly tying, including: Why do you hate hook keepers so much? Is it true that you should not hook your fly onto your stripping guide? A listener recounts his first experience with selling flies he tied himself. A number of people chide me for not using a wading staff—yet. Will it hurt my fly line if I stretch it first before fishing? A listener gives some good advice on how to get out of a dangerous situation while wading, and how to prevent your waders from acting like a sea anchor. A tip from a listener on how he deals with litter during a day of fishing and one on how he carries rods on the back seat of his vehicle. A listener tells me how pleased he was with Orvis reel repair service. Should I wear socks when wearing the new Pro Approach Hikers in salt water? Can I Euro nymph in lakes and ponds? A tip from a listener on making more durable peacock herl bodies. Where should I put the heavy section of mono on a shock leader? A listener shares a tip on playing darts during the winter to keep those casting muscles in shape I used rubber soled wading shoes on slippery rocks and had poor traction. Should I stud them or just get a pair of felt-soled boots? In a remote lake with an inlet and outlet, will trout move into the outlet as well as the inlet? How can I keep my dropper and tippet from slipping off my barbless hook when fishing with a dry dropper? And what knot is best when attaching a dropper to a hook bend? I have a 9-foot 5-weight rod and want a rod for fishing for panfish and streamers for trout. What rod should I get next?
