When it comes to Hollywood, Morgan Fairchild has seen it all... and done it all to boot. She's starred in primetime soaps, acted in movies and theater productions, and has plenty of stories to share about it all. She stops by the podcast to chat about what's next for her and her career, including a podcast project she's working on. You won't want to miss it!Support the showwww.joeruggiero.com
One of the more successful imports in the 60s and 70s was The Avengers. An American version was bound to happen, and it did from the genius that was Quinn Martin. The leads were played by a name mentioned on this podcast a bit the last few weeks, Granville Van Dusen, and Morgan Fairchild. CBS took a pass, but the Avengers franchise (non-MCU version) lives on to this day.
While Bill is on a research and writing sabbatical for the next 4 weeks we decided it's important to revisit the horrors we laid out in our Project 2025 podcast series, Trump's Project 2025: Up Close and Personal – and have the series author, pro-democracy advocate and the author of nine books, David Pepper, tie them to what's actually happened so far. In Chapter 5, Part one, the fictional characters Congresswoman Louise Getty (a stand-in for Liz Cheney) and Senator Wade Stiller, former rivals, meet at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. They reflect on their pasts and express concern over a hostile political climate under Trump's second term, feeling fear and paranoia about being surveilled and targeted by the government. Their conversation reveals a sense of vulnerability as they confront the reality that many of their colleagues have abandoned principles out of fear. Louise recalls the intense political maneuvering and betrayals leading up to and following the January 6 insurrection. In Part Two, Woody Nuxhall, the newly appointed head of the Treason and Political Crime Section of the DOJ, oversees his zealous young team of prosecutors, eager to pursue investigations and vendettas against political enemies. The group discusses tactics to surveil and undermine former colleagues and opposition figures, planning a strategy fueled by partisan loyalty and vengeance, while embracing a radical transformation of the DOJ's role in politics. While these stories are fictional, they are based on Trump's own words and Project 2025.We'd like to thank the artists who contributed their time to make this episode:Richard Schiff and Morgan Fairchild who read the chapters and Jason Kravits, Tony Michaels, Jim Hilmes, Joe Walsh and Omid Abtahi contributed character voices. Before we commence with the back-clapping and drinks on me at the Moulin Rouge, the synopses: Spinal Tap (1984):A rock mockumentary following the fictional British heavy metal band Spinal Tap, chronicling their disastrous American tour after a failed album six years ago. The tour forces them to come face-to-face with their age, egos, dwindling fame, and their crumbling careers. Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (1985):The madcap Pee-Wee Herman embarks on a desperate cross-country journey to find his stolen bicycle, encountering a cadre of zany characters and bizarre situations along the way. Raising Arizona (1987):H.I. McDunnough, an ex-con with a passion for robbing convenience stores and his police officer wife, Ed short for Edwina, are unable to conceive. When unpainted furniture kingpin Nathan Arizona's wife gives birth to quintuplets, HI and Ed kidnap one of the babies, leading to a chaotic and life-changing, one might say life-affirming, series of events. This special series is a joint production by David Pepper and Resolute Square. The book, “Trump's Project 2025: Up Close And Personal” by David Pepper, is available for purchase at https://a.co/d/adWcJ4S. Special guest host Stuart Stevens starts by detailing the potential horrors to come from Trump's cabinet. From Kash Patel, Pam Bondi and the rest, this is a group specifically designed to carry out the President's unchecked retribution against his political enemies. In Chapter 5, Part one, the fictional characters Congresswoman Louise Getty and Senator Wade Stiller, former rivals, meet at the World War II Memorial in Washington D.C. They reflect on their pasts and express concern over a hostile political climate under Trump's second term, feeling fear and paranoia about being surveilled and targeted by the government. The group discusses tactics to surveil and undermine former colleagues and opposition figures, planning a strategy fueled by partisan loyalty and vengeance, while embracing a radical transformation of the DOJ's role in politics. The narrative emphasizes the deeply entrenched fear and moral compromise within Washington's political landscape, contrasting the idealistic memories of past sacrifices with the present-day weaponization of governmental power. Overall, the story highlights the erosion of democratic norms, and the personal toll this environment takes on the individuals involved. While these stories are fictional, they are based on Trump's own words and Project 2025. In fact, the New York Times, just last week reported just how Trump would use the Justice Department to go after his enemies. As we are taking a holiday break, we are re-running two of the episodes of Trump's Project 2025: Up Close and Personal series that we produced before the election. We produced it to warn people of what was coming if Trump were reelected, but now we think it's just as important for people to understand what we can actually expect in the next four years. And we hope it will help fuel our collective opposition and resistance to Trump 2.0 This is the second re-run, The Department of Retribution. Dennis continues his conversation with TV writer Stan Zimmerman, author of the memoir The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore. In Part 2, Stan talks about working on the Gilmore Girls and learning to write dialogue in the show's unique, fast-paced style. He also talks about the humiliating T-shirt gift he got from Roseanne and Tom Arnold while working on Roseanne, taking random meetings with icons like Diana Ross, Goldie Hawn, Joan Collins and Pia Zadora, being a judge/mentor on the Bravo reality show Situation: Comedy, getting into playwriting and directing theater later in his career and going to Russia to work on the Russian Roseanne and meeting sexy Russians on the gay app Hornet. Other topics include: the holiday movie he wrote for Donna Mills, Loni Anderson, Nicolette Sheridan, Morgan Fairchild and Linda Gray, going to Studio 54 and telling Andy Warhol to stop taking his picture, his natural optimism, the thrill of having his beloved mother come to tapings, and why he wore glasses to pitch meetings when he didn't actually need them. After the interview, Dennis recalls his epic 60th birthday weekend.

Our hearts go out to the people impacted by Hurricane Helene and their anti-government governments, who will be replaced one day with public servants, which is what this conversation is about. To help those who are impacted, there's a resource on where to donate in the show notes. (Do not choose the Red Cross, for reasons explained in the show notes). Thank you. Thank you to everyone who joined our live taping with Laboratories of Autocracy and Saving Democracy author David Pepper, who is not just a democracy warrior, but also the mastermind behind the new podcast series Project 2025: Up Close and Personal. Picture this: short, terrifying vignettes with a cast so star-studded, you'd think it was Hollywood's last gasp before a fascist takeover—J. Smith-Cameron, Fisher Stevens, Richard Schiff, Morgan Fairchild, Omid Abtahi, and many more! We previewed "Chapter 2" of the series–it's the audio equivalent of a cold sweat. You can listen to it [here]. Democrats have been playing defense for so long, they've forgotten what offense looks like. "There are two million uncontested races out there," David pointed out, which is about as comforting as knowing JD Vance's particular brand of weird fills the halls of power in Republican hostage states. David also shared the story of how he got a call out of the blue from Vice President Kamala Harris last spring, to discuss ways to fight back. Thanks to the audience Q&A, he shared who he thinks should be her Attorney General—should she win, of course. Want to make that dream a reality? Join the fight! Gaslit Nation hosts phonebanks with Sister District every Wednesday at 6 p.m. RSVP [here]. Join our next live taping on Tuesday October 1st at 12pm ET with Greg Palast, discussing his new film Vigilantes Inc: America's New Vote Suppression Hitmen. Bring your questions on all the ways Russian-backed MAGA is trying to steal the election, their plans if they lose, and ways to protect the vote. Come As You Are Weekly Political Salons! Although I think I forgot 1981 hilariously (we'll get back to it) there certainly is a treasure trove to discuss. We'll discuss the hilarious Morgan Fairchild vehicle, The Seduction; the awful sequel to Grease, Grease 2 and the classics, or at least the Juskow classics, Al Pacino in Author, Author and the Mel Brooks inspired, My Favorite Year. News and Notes About "Blind Date Book Club" Directed by Peter Benson. Peter is a well known actor and seen in many Hallmark films. This is his 17th directing credit. He's previously directed Hallmark faves like “The Wedding Veil Expectations,” “The Santa Stakeout” and “Sweet Carolina.” Peter's next project is as Pat in the upcoming sequel to “The Cases of Mystery Lane.” Blind Date Book Club was written by Nicole Baxter. Nicole 19 writing credits - most look to be Hallmark films. A couple previous favorites of ours are: “A Pinch of Portugal,” “We Wish You a Married Christmas” and “Presence of Love.” Related: Listen to the Girls Gone Hallmark review of "A Pinch of Portugal" Erin Krakow plays book shop owner Meg. Erin is probably best known for her role as Elizabeth on “When Calls the Heart.” You can't tell me Hallmark doesn't know what it's doing by premiering an Erin Krakow movie, the same weekend season 11 of “When Calls the Heart” premieres. The last MOVIE we saw Erin in was the “The Wedding Cottage” with Brendan Penny. Robert Buckley plays author Graham Sterling. Robert has 29 acting credits including 18 episodes of “Chesapeake Shores,” “The Christmas House” and “The Christmas House 2: Deck Those Halls.” Outside of Hallmark, Robert has been a regular in series like “iZombie,” “One Tree Hill,” “American Heiress” and 2006 show called “Fashion House” which also starred Bo Derek and Morgan Fairchild. Faith Wright plays friend and co-worker Alice. She has just 20 acting credits and has been seen in shows like “Riverdale,” “Nancy Drew,” and “So Help Me Todd.” For Hallmark, she's been in “Three Wise Men and a Baby” as well as “A Godwink Christmas: Miracle of Love.” Glynis Davies plays Aunt Renee. She's got a healthy list of acting credits but her last Hallmark credit was from 2020 in a “Picture Perfect Mysteries.” Related: Listen to what Girls Gone Hallmark thought about "One Bad Apple" Hilary Jardine plays Graham's sister Lizzy. We saw Hilary over the weekend in “One Bad Apple: A Hannah Swensen Mystery.” Johannah Newmarch plays the NRP reporter Raina. Johanna also appears on “When Calls the Heart” as Molly. This movie was filmed in January and February in Langley and Gibbons, British Columbia. According to Heavy.com, production was hit with a snow storm during filming. And on TV, she created the iconic roles of “Jennifer Pace Phillips” on “Search for Tomorrow”, “Constance Weldon Carlyle” on “Flamingo Road”, for which she got a Golden Globe Award nomination, “Jordan Roberts” on “Falconcrest”, for which she received a Soap Opera Digest Award nomination, “Julia St. Martin” on “Murphy Brown”, for which she earned a Primetime Emmy Award nomination, “Sydney Chase” on “The City”, “Sophia Blakely” on “Fashion House”, and “Angelica Devereux” on “Days of Our Lives”, for which she received a Daytime Emmy Award nomination. And let's not forget that she was the original “Jenna Wade” on “Dallas”. She also guest starred on the most popular TV shows including “Mork & Mindy”, “Roseanne”, “Friends”, “Happy Days”, “The Bob Newhart Show”, “Police Woman”, “Kojak”, “Murder, She Wrote”, and dozens more. She's appeared in some great miniseries including “The Dream Merchants”, “Too Old to Die Young” and “North and South, Parts 1 and 2”. And most recently, she co-starred with Donna Mills, Nicolette Sheridan, and 2 of my friends who recently appeared on our show, Loni Anderson and Linda Gray, in a delightful TV movie entitled, “Ladies of the 80s: A Divas Christmas”, co-written by Stan Zimmerman, who appeared on our show last week. On stage, our guest starred in the off-Broadway play “Geniuses”, which was named by Time Magazine and the New York Times as one of the top 10 plays of 1983. But our guest is much, much more than a talented, beautiful and glamorous Hollywood star. She's an extremely dedicated and highly respected humanitarian. She's been in the forefront as an outspoken and dedicated advocate in the fight against AIDS, the pro-choice movement and many environmental issues. In fact, she helped found the Environmental Communications Office, which fosters education and activism among entertainment industry professionals. And somehow, on top of everything else she's done, she found time in the 80's to write a book providing beauty tips, and she's also on the Board of Directors of SAG-AFTRA. Michael was born in the wagon of a traveling show... At least that's what it says on his website. He is a graduate of Marymount Manhattan College and has been directing and producing in any and all mediums. Some recent projects are Broadway's Caroline, or Change revival (co-producer), off-Broadway's long running A Musical About Star Wars (director), and the decadent new soap opera, Mélange, starring Morgan Fairchild (editor). During the pandemic he produced and directed several high profile streaming benefits to raise money for various neighborhood institutions in need of some help. Save West Bank Cafe was a 10 hour Christmas Day telethon, followed by Save Birdland, The Musical of Musicals (the York Theatre) and a benefit for The Stonewall Inn to name few. Les, Kurt, and Jason are ready to dissect a Lifetime movie that SHOULD hit the sweet spot, Lifetime's Ladies of the 80's a Divas Christmas starring Morgan Fairchild, Nicolette Sheridan, Donna Mills, Loni Anderson, Linda Gray, and Christopher Adkins. But first, we get the Blac Chyna news that she and Tyga are now getting along and sharing joint custody of their son. Kumbaya. Then, the guys test whether or not THEY are as powerful as a Siskel and Ebert review that once got Alen Zweibel's son bullied as they dig into this week's movie. Even stacked with so many 80's icons, this movie's many lapses in simple logic make it a rough watch that needed more actual tension between the characters that's not even saved by using (potentially) scalding hot gravy in a food fight and winning an Emmy by showing one's gray hair. Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth Interview with Linda Gray, Legendary Actress, Star, “Dallas”, “Ladies of the 80's: A Divas Christmas” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guest, Linda Gray, is a beloved, multi-award winning actress, director and author who became a global superstar with her portrayal of ‘Sue Ellen', in the blockbuster TV series “Dallas”, for which she won numerous international awards and was nominated for 2 Golden Globe Awards, an Emmy Award and 4 Soap Opera Digest Awards. But her career extends far beyond “Dallas”. On the big screen, she's appeared in many movies including “Dogs”, “Oscar”, “Star of Jaipur”, “Expecting Mary”, “The Flight of the Swan”, “Hidden Moon”, “Intuitions” and “Wally's Will”, which won her 2 Best Actress awards at the USA Film Festival and the North Hollywood Film Festival. And she's starred in dozens of TV shows like “Melrose Place”, “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “Models Inc.”, and many TV movies including “Murder in Peyton Place”, “Haywire”, “The Wild and the Free”, “Not in Front of the Children”, “Moment of Truth: Why My Daughter?”, “Accidental Meeting”, “When the Cradle Falls”, “Perfect Match”, and of course, the 2 “Dallas” TV movies, “J.R. Returns” and “War of the Ewings”. On the stage, our guest starred in the world premiere production, in London, of “Terms of Endearment”, AND in the West End production of “The Graduate”, in which she starred on Broadway for a limited engagement. In 2014 she returned to the London stage to star in the Christmas pantomime “Cinderella”, playing the Fairy Godmother. She's also starred onstage in “The Vagina Monologues”, “Agnes of God” and “Love Letters”. In 1982, she was named Woman of the Year by the Hollywood Radio & Television Society. In 2013, she was included in People Magazine's list of the Most Beautiful Women in the world. And in 2015, she published her highly compelling, emotionally powerful and inspirational memoir entitled, “The Road to Happiness is Always Under Construction”, which became an instant best seller. The book chronicles our guest's amazing life journey, through childhood illness, family trauma, and the many challenges of an ultimately triumphant career and fulfilling personal life, bringing her to a place of honesty, serenity and joy. And I'm very excited to announce that on December 2, our guest's highly anticipated, brand new TV movie, entitled “Ladies of the 80s: A Divas Christmas” will be premiering on the Lifetime channel. This is a delicious comedy in which our guest co-stars with Loni Anderson, Morgan Fairchild, Donna Mills and Nicollette Sheridan, who play 5 glamorous soap opera queens who reunite to shoot the final Christmas episode of their long-running TV series. And if all of that weren't enough, our guest is also a highly respected philanthropist. She's been very involved with the Best Buddies Program for people with intellectual challenges, as well as Meals on Wheels and the Force For Good Foundation. And for 10 years, from 1997 to 2007, she served as a United Nations Goodwill Ambassador to promote women's rights, and the health of women and children. I'm a huge Friends fan. Like...watch the whole series multiple times per year. Did you know they did something in Season 1 to grow their viewership 25%? Season 1, Episode 16 was called, “The One with Two Parts, Part 1,” it was the first of a crossover event with two other NBC shows. Before landing the role of Phoebe on Friends, Lisa Kudrow was a waitress named Ursula on NBC's hit show Mad About You, also set in NYC. The show wrote them as twin sisters, and Ursula was introduced to the Friends audience in Episode 16 when Joey started dating her. Helen Hunt and Leila Kenzle, who played the main characters on Mad About You, also make an appearance, mistaking Phoebe for Ursula at Central Perk, a common hangout in Friends. But it doesn't stop there. At the end of Episode 16, Rachel falls and hurts her ankle. Episode 17 opens with her and Monica at the Hospital, where they meet two young doctors, played by George Clooney and Noah Wyle, the stars of ER. The results of that cross-over event? The most-viewed episode before that arc had 26M views and guest-starred Morgan Fairchild as Chandler's mom. After that, the average viewership was 29.8M per episode. What can podcasters learn from this? Get in front of other people's audiences. The Friends team knew that pulling in Mad About You and ER cast would bring the fans. After all – they were similar shows (daily lives of young people in big cities), at similar times, on the same network. You can replicate this strategy 2 ways: Going on other people's podcasts as a guest Doing podcast swaps, where you and another podcast plug each other shows I did each of these and grew my own show from 33,000 monthly downloads to 72,000 monthly downloads in 10 months. Not bad, right? Now it's your turn. Write back and let me know: what are 2-3 podcasts you can work with on a podcast swap? Harvey Brownstone conducts an in-depth interview with Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka, Co-Stars “Our (Almost Completely True) Love Story” About Harvey's guest: Today's special guests, Mariette Hartley and Jerry Sroka, are 2 beloved entertainers who happen to be husband and wife - or as they call themselves, the “icon” and the “leprechaun”. Starting with the “icon” first, she's been dazzling us with great performances for over 6 decades, in classic movies like “Ride the High Country”, “Marnie”, “Marooned”, “Skyjacked”, “1969”, “Improper Channels”, and of course, her many highly acclaimed TV movies including “MADD: Mothers Against Drunk Drivers” and “Silence of the Heart”. On television, she's been in everything from “The Twilight Zone”, “Daniel Boone”, “Bonanza”, “Gunsmoke” and “The Bob Newhart Show”, to “Little House on the Prairie”, “M.A.S.H.”, “Murder She Wrote”, “NCIS”, “Grey's Anatomy”, and dozens more. She created the unforgettable characters of “Dr. Claire Morton” on “Peyton Place”, “Sister Mary Daniel” on “One Life to Live”, “Liz McVey” on “W-I-O-U”, “Lorna Scarry” in “Law and Order: SVU”, “Patricia Clark” in “9-1-1” – and let's not forget that classic episode of “Star Trek”, where our guest, who played “Zarabeth”, fulfilled every woman's dream of having her wicked way with “Mr. Spock”. And for a while in the 80's, she co-hosted NBC's “The Today Show”, and she also co-hosted “The Morning Program” on CBS. And we all loved her wonderful, long-running TV documentary series, “Wild About Animals”. She's been nominated for 5 Emmy Awards and WON an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her work in “The Incredible Hulk”. And she has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She also wrote an incredibly impactful and emotionally powerful book entitled, “Breaking the Silence”, which is one of the most compelling, insightful and inspirational celebrity memoirs I've ever read. And at the risk of making her blush even more, I can't resist mentioning this remarkable woman's extraordinary devotion to community service. She's been the national spokesperson for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which honored her with a Humanitarian Award. She's also worked tirelessly as an advocate for mental health, and with a number of vitally important organizations, including the Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, SOJOURN, and Mothers Against Drunk Drivers. And get this: she was named Outstanding Mother of the Year by the National Mother's Day Committee in Washington, D.C. It doesn't get much better than that. And now, moving on to her loving husband, the “leprechaun”, he's an actor and producer, well known for his work in the movie “Godspell”, the mini-series “Murder One: Diary of a Serial Killer”, and dozens of TV shows including “Murphy Brown”, “Seinfeld”, “Ally McBeal”, “Star Trek Voyager”, “The Brothers Flub”, “The West Wing”, “Shameless”, “The Comeback Kids” and many, many more. And now, these 2 great talents have joined together in a terrific and very charming movie which they wrote, called “Our (Almost Completely True) Love Story”, in which they play themselves, telling the story of how this initially very unlikely couple met and grew to love each other. The movie, which also features veteran stars Tess Harper, Bernie Kopell, Morgan Fairchild and John Rubenstein, has been conquering film festivals everywhere, and it's won 9 prestigious awards. After seeing this humorous, poignant and heartwarming movie, I just had to invite our guests on our show. You know Morgan Fairchild from Dallas, Flamingo Road, Friends, Roseanne and many other television shows and theater work she has appeared in for many years. We think you probably don't know this side of Morgan - the science nerd! We dove into Morgan's other life and her fascination with all things science and what she describes as her moral obligation to share her knowledge, especially in the 80's when she was the first Hollywood personality to get involved with AIDS. She is beautiful, smart and funny - no dumb blond! And of course, this week's "reviews" by Alan & Joey of movies, TV and bad clothes! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Jessica Clark steps Behind The Rope. Jessica is here to chat about her new gig as host of “Coming Out For Love”, the first ever, all inclusive Queer Women Dating Competition Show which follows influencer and activist Amber Whittington as she searches for love among a diverse group of women all picked to live together under one roof. Jessica talks about her hosting duties, the recent comparisons to both Padma Lakshmi and Cat Deeley, and many sensitive racial conversations, volatile scenes, racy sexual encounters and not so “PC” moments producers decided to keep in this epic Freshman Season of Coming Out. On a larger note, Jessica talks queer representation in the media today, where she thinks the world is and what we can still do better. Finally, as an actress by trade, Jessica breaks down her many past roles and co-stars - Morgan Fairchild, True Blood and Rob Lowe to name a few. @thejessicaroseclark @behindvelvetrope @davidyontef BONUS & AD FREE EPISODES Available at www.patreon.com/behindthevelvetrope BROUGHT TO YOU BY: INDEED - indeed.com/velvet (Start Hiring Now.
