POPULARITY
As a creative and entrepreneur, I value talking to others working in this industry. I think it is so key to learn from one another - not to compete but more so to lift each other up in an effort to grow our businesses. Claire Tregoning and Pip Edwards join me to talk about my favorite thing - fashion. They are the founders and creative directors of P.E. Nation, one of my favorite active sportswear lifestyle brands. All of their pieces are so fresh and unique, so I was very excited to learn more about their process. We talk about the importance of looking beyond who your customer is, the struggle between staying true to your vision and using data to inform your designs, and MORE! Claire and Pip's combined talent and vision have seen the brand grow from start-up in 2016 to wide global admiration and demand, with immediate industry recognition – taking home prestigious accolades including Best Emerging Designer at the Australian Fashion Laureate Awards in 2017, and the National Designer Award at VAMFF in 2018. Does budget and more expensive makeup get made in the same factory?....Hello and welcome to Beauty Island, the award-nominated beauty podcast that celebrates life and lipstick.I’m your host, beauty journalist, Brittany Stewart. Each episode, I sit down with a guest and ask them about the 8 beauty products that have a special memory or meaning for them. The ones they’d take to a desert island, or Beauty Island, that I am sending them off too.Maybe it’s the first beauty product they ever bought, the one that gives them their signature look, or the perfume that instantly sparks a memory of a special place or person.Along the way we find out more about their life, career and the people and events that have shaped them into who they are today.Thank you for the feedback on last week’s address of Coronavirus. Obviously even in the space of a week, things have changed dramatically. Again, while done remotely over the phone as my partner works in hospital so I’ve been implementing social distancing for a little while, this interview was conducted before things escalated, and as I’m trying to do with most of my episodes, does not talk about the virus. Instead, I hope it can be a brief respite for the overload but essential updates of information.Today, my guest is Sarah Laidlaw, award-winning hair and makeup artist and Hair and Makeup Director of Priceline. And I really do mean award-winning; Sarah has won Australia’s prestigious Session Stylist of the Year title no less than five times. She’s had work published in top local and international magazines, worked with some of the best photographers, celebrities and has experience on everything from TV shows to editorial to music videos to runways. It’s been a glittering 29 years with no end in sight. It was also a complete joy to talk to someone who is so obviously passionate about what she does - you’ll hear it in her voice. We talked about her inherited love for chapstick, working with celebrities, why an eyelash applicator is a complete game changer and, my favourite, she busts a popular myth about the price tag on makeup products. As Priceline celebrates its Festival of You, running until March 26, we also had a really interesting conversation about visibility of women over 40 in media and beauty advertising, and she shared an Instagram account celebrating women over 50 you need to follow. It’s certainly brightening my feed.As always if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe, rate five stars and write a review. And if you’re listening, share a screenshot on your Instagram story and tag me @BEAUTYISLANDPODCAST so I can see!If you fancy chatting more beauty, you can find me on Instagram @beautyislandpodcast or my personal beauty account @brittanybeautybts, where I regularly share products I’m loving and talk about all aspects of beauty culture. Ever wondered if Fashion Week is just a big wank fest? Michelle and Zara went down to VAMFF this week to check it all out, and Mich walked away with a few key concerns about the festival. Plus, we deep-dive the months-long saga involving Ryan Seacrest and try to make sense of sexual misconduct allegations that are made public before they're proven. Oh, and do we have any right to know about Bella Hadid’s face? It feels like now more than ever plastic surgery is prevalent among our youngest and brightest stars. So what the hell do we make of it all? If you're interested in a comprehensive explainer on Ryan Seacrest, Variety have done some great reporting on the issue: http://variety.com/2018/tv/news/ryan-seacrest-sexual-abuse-allegations-stylist-details-1202710460/You're so welcome to join the conversation in our Facebook group!
