Sean and Varn are back to talk current events, discuss theory and gripe about everyone and everything. On the tumbrils this week: artificial intelligence, the DSA, sovereign debt, multipolarity and how not to debate with Colin Drumm online. In the second half we talk about 'The Mamdani Moment', Varn's recent ascension to Chief Fly-in-the-Ointment in the DSA, the pre-political theories of the ILC and how the ruling class are dragging us all into the hellfire. For the full episode, and all past Divings into the Wreckage, support this show at http://patreon.com/thiswreckageSong: Gary Numan - This Wreckage
December 16, 2025 Daily Devotional: “A Fragrant Friendship” Proverbs 27:9 "Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so does the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel." In ancient times, precious oils and perfumes were a luxury since their fragrance was not only pleasing but often a sign of honor, hospitality, and celebration. They literally "rejoiced the heart," lifting the spirit with their sweet aroma. Solomon uses this beautiful, sensory image to describe something even more valuable: "the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel." The word "hearty" here suggests counsel that comes from the soul, which is sincere, earnest, genuine, and often courageous. It's not just a polite agreement or flattery but is of truth spoken in love. Just as a fine perfume can refresh a weary traveler, honest and godly advice from a true friend can refresh a confused, burdened, or misguided heart. This verse teaches us important lessons about the blessing of friendship. In the value of a Godly counsel, a true friend is one who is willing to invest their spirit and time into your life, offering more than just sympathy. They offer wisdom drawn from their own life or, more importantly, from the Word of God. This kind of counsel is a gift that brings true joy and direction. The Responsibility of a true friend is to offer "hearty counsel". We are called to be that friend. It means we must be close enough to know the situation and humble enough to speak the truth, even when it's difficult. Our words should aim to be as pleasing and helpful as perfume, not harsh or condemning. Take a moment today to consider the fragrant blessings in your life, those friends whose words have been a lifeline or a gentle nudge toward God's path. And then, consider this; Who might need the sweetness of your "heartycounsel" today? Reach out to that friend who has offered you godly, honest counsel in the past. Send them a text or call them to express your sincere gratitude for their "sweetness."

Every 30 seconds, someone buys a Lanolips 101 Ointment - here's how a sheep farm memory became a global beauty empire. This week on The Formula, founder Kirsten Carriol breaks down what it takes to build a brand that lasts in the age of viral trends. We're exploring how Kirsten's childhood memory of lanolin from her grandparents' sheep farm became the ultimate solution for chronically cracked lips - a problem the massive beauty industry kept getting wrong. She reveals why viral balms are often 'duds,' the crucial distinction between creating a product for Instagram "aesthetic" versus one that actually works, and how a long-haul flight moment led her to launch a brand that counts Lindsay Lohan and Gigi Hadid among its fans. If you've ever been frustrated by lip balms that promise the world but deliver absolutely nothing, this episode is for you! Is the devil in the detail? Yesterday NZR proudly released the news that they have finally got their long-negotiated broadcast deal with Sky TV across the line. On the face of it, the deal looks good for all concerned. The All Blacks, Super Rugby, and the Black Ferns are all tied up for five years, driving subscription numbers for the pay TV behemoth. Those products are what Sky, and realistically the subscribers, really desire. The free-to-air deal provides those unwilling or unable to pay for satellite TV a taste of domestic rugby through the exploits of the teams in the NPC, with some Farah Palmer Cup and Heartland Championship games thrown in. The vehicle for this is TVNZ, which in lieu of Sky TV's recent purchase of the Three network, appears out of alignment with the pay TV monster's trajectory. The Three deal not only arrived too late for consideration (I presume), and in eyeball terms, TVNZ has a greater reach, with a larger and less complex method for New Zealanders who aren't tech savvy or have no interest in multiple platforms. The ointment fly is the additional All Black matches that fall outside of the World Rugby test requirements. As yet unscheduled but more than likely to occur, these ‘extra' matches involve the revenue generating fixtures such as the American-based games. This is where more ‘fat' for NZR lives. These matches will likely be sold off to the highest bidder, think DAZN or Netflix, so if we want to watch, we'll be paying. Again. I will. I have to. I want to. But is this the thin end of the future pay wedge for AB fans? See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In this scholarly episode of Witch Hunt Podcast, hosts Josh Hutchinson and Sarah Jack welcome historian Dr. Michael Ostling to examine one of witchcraft history's most persistent legends: the hallucinogenic flying ointment.Dr. Ostling carefully separates historical evidence from modern misconceptions, revealing how contemporary interpretations often reflect our own misogynistic projections rather than the experiences of those accused of witchcraft. Through thoughtful analysis, this episode respects the memory of innocent victims while providing listeners with a deeper understanding of how witchcraft myths evolve and persist across centuries. This conversation challenges popular assumptions and offers valuable historical context on this fascinating yet frequently misunderstood aspect of witch hunt history.Content Warning: This episode contains discussion of explicit sexual content related to historical witchcraft allegations.Michael Ostling's ResearchBuy: Fairies, Demons, and Nature Spirits 'Small Gods' at the Margins of Christendom, edited by Michael OstlingBuy: Emotions in the History of Witchcraft, co-edited by Michael OstlingBuy: Between the Devil and the Host Imagining Witchcraft in Early Modern Poland, by Michael OstlingCheck out our new podcast: The Thing About Salem on youtube!End Witch Hunts U. Now that we're fresh out of indentured servitude, maybe it's time we keep our promise to the scary lady who rescued us from darkspawn. Off to Sundermount we go to present Marethari with an amulet. The Dalish are, understandably, wary of our approach, but we are expected so we get something of a free pass to at least keep breathing until they decide otherwise. Marethari asks Hawke and co to bring the amulet to the top of the mountain, let her apprentice do some magic over it, then bring it back. Once that's done then we're done! Oh but also can we adopt Merrill? Special thanks to Redd Spinks for our amazing logo as well as to Miracle of Sound for the song Age Of The Dragon, which we use as our theme music. Topical antibiotic ointments are unnecessary and more likely to cause an allergic reaction as many people are sensitive to these antibiotics. Good old fashioned soap and water are your friends for minor cuts and scrapes. The "ointment" part is great though! Ointment is the term for the jelly-like stuff called by the trade names Vaseline or Aquaphor. Pat dry and then apply Vaseline or Aquaphor as an ointment to protect the skin and keep the area hydrated. Hydrated skin will heal more easily and scar less.

Then Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, “Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?” John 12:4–5Jesus was with His disciples at the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary. He regularly spent time at their home and was close to them. This meal took place just before Jesus entered into Jerusalem for the first Palm Sunday and Holy Week. It was six days before Jesus would die on the cross.Recall that Lazarus had recently been raised from the dead by Jesus and also that Mary, Lazarus' sister, was deeply devoted to Jesus and is recorded as the one who sat at His feet, while her sister Martha served. During this visit, Mary offered another act of devotion to Jesus when she anointed Him with “a liter of costly perfumed oil.” She offered Him an act of love and devotion. The Scripture passage above records Judas' response as he also was at the meal. Jesus rebukes Judas and defends the act of devotion given by Mary, and the meal continues on. One clear lesson this teaches us is that nothing is too good for our Lord. It's true that we must do our part to help care for the poor, but Jesus' response to Judas is quite interesting. He says, “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” Jesus was not downplaying the importance of caring for the poor; He was emphasizing the importance of offering acts of love and devotion to Him.As we enter into this the holiest week of the year, we are given this image of Mary lavishing upon Jesus this liter of costly perfumed oil as a way of inviting us to do the same. Though we serve Christ in others who are in need, we must also seek to regularly offer Him devotion and love directly, even in ways that others may think is excessive. Honoring Him, expressing our love, spending time with various devotions, praying for extended periods of time, and even offering Him our financial resources are all ways in which we give Jesus the glory that is due Him. Reflect, today, upon ways in which you can imitate this act of loving devotion offered by Mary to Jesus. In what ways can you pour forth in an abundant way your time, money, talents, and energy upon our Lord? How can you best express your devotion to Him this Holy Week? Seek out ways to do this directly for the one and simple reason that you love our Lord and want to express that love this week. My glorious Jesus, You are worthy of all praise and honor. You are worthy of our deepest devotion and love. As I enter into this Holy Week, I pray that it will be a time in which I may express my deepest love for You. Help me to pour forth that love in abundance this week so as to show You the glory and praise You deserve. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Reflect… Now, let's explore verses 10-11. “Do not forsake your friend or your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him who reproaches me.” These verses emphasize the importance of loyalty to friends and the value of having reliable neighbors in times of need. Reflect… And finally, let's turn our attention to verses 12-14. “A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, the naive proceed and pay the penalty. Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger; and for an adulterous woman hold him in pledge. He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be reckoned a curse to him.” These verses caution against foolishness, advise caution in making financial...
