Jesus responds in a way that might just change how we think about showing love and gratitude today. But that's just the beginning! The story builds toward an epic moment—Jesus' grand entrance into Jerusalem! But here's the twist—many people thought Jesus had come to be a powerful king who would overthrow the Romans, but He had a much bigger mission in mind. What was He really doing? John MacDonald: Seymour is the fly in Luxon's ointment

Canterbury Mornings with Chris Lynch

Whenever people used to bang on about Christopher Luxon being the next John Key —which, I think we all agree now, he isn't— but whenever I used to hear that talk, I pooed-pooed it. All because of what the two of them did before they got into politics. And the fact that Luxon isn't another John Key is why we've got two new political polls telling us that, if an election was held now, the left-wing parties would have enough votes and enough seats to form a government. Because his political leadership is invisible. Particularly, in relation to his handling of ACT leader David Seymour. Seymour is running rings around the Prime Minister and voters are seeing it a mile off. Which is why last night's 1News-Verian poll had National down 3% to a 34% share of the vote and Labour up 4% to 33%. Overall, the National/ACT/NZ First coalition would have 60 seats (not enough to form a government) and Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori would have 61 seats (enough to form a government). And Seymour is the reason. Or more to the point, Luxon's reluctance to thump the table publicly is the reason. Before Sir John Key got into politics, he'd been a financial trader. Christopher Luxon, before he got into politics, was a chief executive. So, what's the significance of that? Traders thrive on chaos and chief executives avoid chaos at all cost. Chief executives are like ducks on the water. They like it to look as if everything's going smoothly, nothing to see here, but underneath the water their legs are going flat out. And being a former chief executive, that's how Christopher Luxon is handling David Seymour —“nothing to see hear, nothing to see here”— and that's why we have two poll results telling us that, if an election was held now, the National/ACT/NZ First coalition would be out the door. And he was treading water again on Newstalk ZB this morning when Mike Hosking asked him what he could do about Seymour – whether he could actually sack him from Cabinet. For trying to drive the land rover up the steps at parliament yesterday but, more significantly, doing that stupid thing where he wrote a letter to the police on behalf of Philip Polkinghorne before he was accused of killing his wife and, subsequently, found not guilty. The PM was saying he didn't have time to think about David Seymour and it's natural for minor coalition partners to seek media attention, despite the fact that Seymour has got into a public spat with the Prime Minister over the letter he wrote to the police. When the PM was asked yesterday about Seymour writing to the police, he said it was “ill advised”. Straight away, Seymour fired back in a media interview saying, “before criticising a local MP for doing their job, you should know all the facts”. I reckon more and more people are looking at Luxon and thinking “when are you going to tell him to pull his head in?” Especially when you consider that, in a few months time, Seymour will be Deputy Prime Minister. Luxon's approach might be appropriate for the corporate world, but, as the numbers are showing, it's not the way to handle things in the political world. https://www.patreon.com/witchyworkwishes https://witchyworkwishes.com/ The tale of the flying ointment begins in the shadowy past of medieval and early modern witchcraft traditions. Long before “witch” was a term whispered with fear or disdain, wise folk in villages and forests crafted potions and salves to connect with the spirit world. These ointments were not merely concoctions of whimsy but were carefully designed to aid in what we now call spirit flight—journeys of the soul beyond the physical realm. I am reviewing our modern uses and practices of flying ointments today and pulling some safe ingredients & DIY recipes. Of course, I'll be giving some suggestions on how we can use flying ointments in connection with our jobs, work and corporate world too. So …. Whether you've dreamed of soaring through the astral realms, connecting with spirit guides, or just unlocking a little extra magic in your practice, this episode is for you. Grab your favorite cup of tea, light a candle, and let's explore the history, the magic, and the modern-day uses of these mystical tools.

I need wisdom ointment, but so much ointment contains flies. Wisdom that comes from above, wisdom that is pure and holy.   I was visiting a friend the other day, and she noticed I had some eczema on my hand. It had been there a few days and was slightly irritated and red. She offered to rub some ointment into the skin. I gladly accepted. Touch is a wonderful thing, especially when it regards a skin disease. She gently worked in the ointment and I could feel the pain ease away. I almost teared up because someone had noticed, cared and offered ointment and love. I checked out the tube of ointment she had taken a small dab of ointment from. Looking over the ingredients, I noticed that there were no dead flies in the mix. There were no ‘flies in the ointment' as such. It's a funny litt   le saying, but I think it comes from the wisdom writings of Ecclesiastes. Dead flies make the perfumer's ointment give off a foul odour; so a little folly outweighs wisdom and honour. Ecclesiastes 10:1 The eczema is no longer there, but maybe the touch and the offering of wisdom to pain remains. So I wrote a poem!   Read more here

The Dalish are, understandably, wary of our approach, but we are expected so we get something of a free pass to at least keep breathing until they decide otherwise. Marethari asks Hawke and co to bring the amulet to the top of the mountain, let her apprentice do some magic over it, then bring it back. Once that's done then we're done! Topical antibiotic ointments are unnecessary and more likely to cause an allergic reaction as many people are sensitive to these antibiotics. Good old fashioned soap and water are your friends for minor cuts and scrapes. The "ointment" part is great though!  Ointment is the term for the jelly-like stuff called by the trade names Vaseline or Aquaphor. Pat dry and then apply Vaseline or Aquaphor as an ointment to protect the skin and keep the area hydrated. Hydrated skin will heal more easily and scar less.

Then Judas the Iscariot, one of his disciples, and the one who would betray him, said, “Why was this oil not sold for three hundred days' wages and given to the poor?” John 12:4–5Jesus was with His disciples at the home of Lazarus, Martha and Mary. He regularly spent time at their home and was close to them. This meal took place just before Jesus entered into Jerusalem for the first Palm Sunday and Holy Week. It was six days before Jesus would die on the cross.Recall that Lazarus had recently been raised from the dead by Jesus and also that Mary, Lazarus' sister, was deeply devoted to Jesus and is recorded as the one who sat at His feet, while her sister Martha served. During this visit, Mary offered another act of devotion to Jesus when she anointed Him with “a liter of costly perfumed oil.” She offered Him an act of love and devotion. The Scripture passage above records Judas' response as he also was at the meal. Jesus rebukes Judas and defends the act of devotion given by Mary, and the meal continues on. One clear lesson this teaches us is that nothing is too good for our Lord. It's true that we must do our part to help care for the poor, but Jesus' response to Judas is quite interesting. He says, “Leave her alone. Let her keep this for the day of my burial. You always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.” Jesus was not downplaying the importance of caring for the poor; He was emphasizing the importance of offering acts of love and devotion to Him.As we enter into this the holiest week of the year, we are given this image of Mary lavishing upon Jesus this liter of costly perfumed oil as a way of inviting us to do the same. Though we serve Christ in others who are in need, we must also seek to regularly offer Him devotion and love directly, even in ways that others may think is excessive. Honoring Him, expressing our love, spending time with various devotions, praying for extended periods of time, and even offering Him our financial resources are all ways in which we give Jesus the glory that is due Him. Reflect, today, upon ways in which you can imitate this act of loving devotion offered by Mary to Jesus. In what ways can you pour forth in an abundant way your time, money, talents, and energy upon our Lord? How can you best express your devotion to Him this Holy Week? Seek out ways to do this directly for the one and simple reason that you love our Lord and want to express that love this week. My glorious Jesus, You are worthy of all praise and honor. You are worthy of our deepest devotion and love. As I enter into this Holy Week, I pray that it will be a time in which I may express my deepest love for You. Help me to pour forth that love in abundance this week so as to show You the glory and praise You deserve. Jesus, I trust in You.Source of content: catholic-daily-reflections.comCopyright © 2024 My Catholic Life! Inc. All rights reserved. Pastor Chris tells a story of a group of men troubled by their female pastor's lack of fishing skills. Inviting her along, they witness her walking on water to retrieve her jacket, but still find fault. This leads to reflecting on Mary of Bethany's extravagant act of pouring expensive perfume on Jesus. Despite criticism, Jesus commends her, recognizing her heart of worship. The sermon emphasizes worship as the foundation for service, drawing parallels to Jesus' sacrificial love. The message urges believers to prioritize worship, embodying childlike wonder and devotion, regardless of others' opinions. It concludes with a prayer for renewed hearts of worship and acknowledgment of Jesus' worthiness.

Welcome to Day 2325 of Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Wisdom Nuggets – Proverbs 27:8-14 Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2325 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2325 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. In today's Wisdom Nugget, I will guide you through the vast landscapes of biblical wisdom. Today, we'll be exploring Proverbs 27:8-14 from the New Living Translation. In these verses, we'll uncover insights into the value of friendship, the importance of reliable counsel, and the benefits of diligent stewardship. Reflect… So, without further delay, let's dive into the wisdom of Proverbs. Verses 8-9: “As a bird that strays from its nest, so is a man who wanders from his home. Ointment and perfume delight the heart, and the sweetness of a man's friend gives delight by hearty counsel.” These verses highlight the value of friendship and the comfort found in reliable counsel. How can we understand the importance of friendship and the benefits of reliable counsel? Recognize the value of genuine friendship and the comfort it brings, especially in times of need. Cultivate deep, meaningful relationships with those who offer sincere counsel and support, knowing that they can provide invaluable wisdom and encouragement. Be a loyal friend yourself, offering your support and counsel to others in their times of need. Cherish the bonds of friendship, knowing that they are a source of joy and strength in life's journey. Reflect… Now, let's explore verses 10-11. “Do not forsake your friend or your father's friend, and do not go to your brother's house in the day of your calamity; better is a neighbor who is near than a brother who is far away. Be wise, my son, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him who reproaches me.” These verses emphasize the importance of loyalty to friends and the value of having reliable neighbors in times of need. How can we understand the importance of loyalty to friends and the value of reliable neighbors? Recognize the importance of loyalty to friends and neighbors, especially in times of adversity. Build strong relationships with those around you, investing time and effort into nurturing these bonds. Be there for your friends and neighbors when they need you, offering your support and assistance without hesitation. Foster a sense of community and belonging, knowing that we are stronger when we stand together. Be wise in your interactions with others, seeking to build bridges rather than walls, and striving to be a source of encouragement and support to those around you. Reflect… And finally, let's turn our attention to verses 12-14. “A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, the naive proceed and pay the penalty. Take his garment when he becomes surety for a stranger; and for an adulterous woman hold him in pledge. He who blesses his friend with a loud voice early in the morning, it will be reckoned a curse to him.” These verses caution against foolishness, advise caution in making financial...
