After 21 years of marriage, one day therapist Vikki Stark's husband walked out on her. Unbeknownst to her, he'd been having an affair for six years. She thought they were happily married. Vikki and I had a very deep and very real conversation. Vikki has experienced a relationship that didn't work out. She talked about how her husband abandoned her without any explanation..he just left. She explains to Keep It Real how she felt and now she helps other women who went or going through the same situation. Vikki Stark, family therapist known worldwide as a divorce recovery expert, is the editor of Planet Heartbreak: Abandoned Wives Tell Their Stories and the author of Runaway Husbands: The Abandoned Wife's Guide to Recovery and Renewal. In her work as a therapist, her publications and her profile as a public speaker and workshop leader, she has dedicated herself to helping women who are struggling following divorce recover and rebuild their lives. Vikki has an active international psychotherapy practice in which she works with clients both in her lovely Montreal office and worldwide online. She is the founder and director of the Sedona Counselling Centre of Montreal, where she have experienced therapists providing a full range of therapy services to individuals, couples and families. Vikki shares her own story of being an abandoned wife and what led her to researching and then writing the book. She discusses the ambivalence and anger that runaway husbands show towards their abandoned wives. In many cases, men who abandon are in other relationships prior to the abandonment. She provides advice on helping kids (both younger kids and adult children) getting through this event. She also covers the real life physical impact that women experience when going through this traumatic event. She provides tips on stopping the obsessive thoughts that women have after the abandonment and not getting stuck in the healing process. She also offers advice on dealing with the other woman when there are kids involved.
