For decades and decades, young children have always been enamored, curious and excited to see fire apparatus. Whether it was/is an engine, truck, rescue or even a “buggy,” we all loved to see the flashing lights and hear the sirens. For some, this is where their “connection” ends. For others, they follow through and join the fire service. And some of those children find other paths in life yet are still enthralled with their local fire service and do what they can to follow them and shoot photos of active fire scenes correctly and legally. These are the “Fire Buffs.” And in some communities, Buffs even support the firefighters with cold drinks, hot coffee and sandwiches, if the department does not have it own canteen or rehab support team.My guest on this episode of “5-Alarm Task Force,” Andrew Cunningham, has been buffing for over twenty years with the Wheeling WV Fire Department. Andrew shares how it started for him and how, year later he and his co-founder created the Wheeling Fire Buffs. And it bears mentioning that there are indeed stories where those who started as buffs, went on to eventually join a fire department and turn their passion into a way of life. You can find Andrew's photos and more on the following sites:1.    www.Facebook.com/WheelingsBravest2.    www.whgfirebuffs.com3.    www.youtube.com/WheelingFireBuffs 4.    www.flickr.com/photos/197635805@N08 Take a listen – you just might learn something ==================================================================For the Firefighter Behavioral Health Initiative: If you need mental health assistance, you can reach out to the Firefighter Behavioral Health Alliance at their website: www.ffbha.org at 847-209-8208 or info@ffbha.org or you can text the word, “BADGE” to 741741, or speak with your officer or clergy. Veteran suicide is an ongoing problem regarding the high rate of suicide among U.S. military veterans, in comparison to the general civilian public. Join me for a more serious toned, emotionally charged episode as we dive into the veteran suicide epidemic with special guests veterans Daniel Brady & Jermaine Lucious. You are NOT alone! There is help! More than 78,000 veterans died by suicide between 2005 and 2017, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Veteran suicide deaths rose from 5,787 in 2005 to 6,139 in 2017. In the active military, the National Guard, with a suicide rate of 30.6 per 100,000, has the highest rate of any branch, according to the most recent Department of Defense Annual Suicide Report. The overall rate among all active military components was 24.8. This is occurring against a backdrop of rising suicides among all Americans. Veteran suicide is an ongoing problem regarding the high rate of suicide among U.S. military veterans, in comparison to the general civilian public. Corporal Daniel Brady hails from the muddy banks of lake Erie, in North Western, PA. If you are a fan of dark comedy, then come listen to Dan's dark yet humourous take on the demons he battles with. He regales the crowd with stories and dark observations from his life, and he is always heavy with the white trash undertones. Dan served in the United States Marine Corps from 2006-2015. He was stationed on Camp Pendleton for the majority of his service and deployed in support of OIF, OEF, and the 11th MEU. Born to a black American father, who was a 27 year Army veteran, and a German mother, Jermaine has lived in the U.S. since the age of 2 and became a citizen at the age of 8. A 30+ year resident of Wheeling WV, Jermaine is a 6 year Veteran of the U.S. National Guard as a military police officer.
