Hansen then shares memories of late NBA coach Don Nelson, including their first meeting tied to Nelson's 1961 Iowa–Ohio State game and a darkly comic Maui poker story involving Willie Nelson. Justin Goodrum, Matt Thomas, and Allan Muenzler are back with a packed episode of "In the Lab," covering a coaching legend's legacy, a WNBA season boiling over with controversy, and a fresh update on one of the NBA's biggest ongoing scandals. The guys open with some personal updates and a preview of upcoming interviews — including a 45-minute conversation with former "Around the Horn" host Tony Reali and ESPN college basketball commentator Sam Gore — before honoring the legacy of Don Nelson, who passed away recently. They break down Nelson's Hall of Fame coaching career, his all-time wins record, his pioneering "Nellie Ball" style that helped shape the modern guard-heavy NBA, his role in drafting Stephen Curry, and a broader conversation about whether today's shorter coaching leashes mean we'll ever see a tenure like his again. From there, the show dives into the WNBA's latest firestorm. The hosts break down the flagrant foul from Chicago Sky's DJ Carrington on Sophie Cunningham, the social media fallout that followed, and play Indiana Fever head coach Stephanie White's raw, emotional press conference defending her team. They also cover the rescinded technical foul involving Caitlin Clark before shifting into a pointed, opinionated discussion of WNBA leadership — including reaction to Front Office Sports reporter Colin Salao's take on what the league needs in its next commissioner, a breakdown of the publicity stunt surrounding Enes Kanter Freedom and Royce White's threats to enter the WNBA draft, and renewed discussion of the Paige Bueckers–Angel Reese betting clip the league's own social account briefly promoted. Worth noting: this segment includes the hosts' own strong, candid opinions on some politically charged storylines around the league this season — presented as their take, not a neutral breakdown. The episode wraps with a pivot to the NBA, where the crew reacts to Pablo Torre's continued reporting on the Kawhi Leonard–Clippers sponsorship investigation, debating what consequences could be coming for Leonard and owner Steve Ballmer. They close with shoutouts to rookie standout Olivia Miles and the Golden State Valkyries' historic first season.

The $800,000 Sports Betting Dispute A bettor claims he won nearly $800,000, only for Caesars to void the tickets over alleged violations of betting rules. The Mookie Betts Foul Ball That Got Away Brian revisits the time Mookie Betts hit a foul ball directly toward him and he failed to make the catch, despite being perfectly positioned. Former Cal State Bakersfield Coach Gets Prison Time An update on the former Cal State Bakersfield basketball coach who was convicted in connection with a prostitution operation. Brian and Ed pick sides — while acknowledging that certain Irish-style breakfast potatoes may deserve consideration. Cocaine Wars: Tim Raines vs. Doc Gooden The Baller Lifestyle's unofficial Cocaine Wars returns. This time the competitors are two MLB legends: Tim "Rock" Raines Dwight "Doc" Gooden The guys discuss the notorious cocaine use of both players, including Raines' infamous habit of carrying cocaine in his uniform pocket and Gooden's struggles with addiction during his spectacular but troubled career. And, of course, the show gets another custom AI-generated Cocaine Wars theme song. The "Rot" Has Set In A listener submits a bizarre take on Mets rookie pitcher Jeffrey Yan celebrating after a strikeout, leading Brian and Ed into a discussion about player celebrations, individuality, ego, and the increasingly dramatic policing of professional athletes' behavior. How Often Do You Check Your Fly? A listener asks the guys how frequently they make sure their zipper is actually zipped. This leads to an unfortunately detailed discussion of zipper-related injuries and Brian's history of unfortunate encounters with his own pants. The Technology Problem Brian and Ed discuss the strange reality of modern technology, convenience, smartphones, and the idea that we're increasingly tethered to the machines in our pockets. The conversation eventually reaches Ted Kaczynski, The Terminator, data centers, and the uncomfortable possibility that some of the concerns about technology were not entirely insane — even if the methods were. PATREON / BONUS CONTENT The regular episode wraps up with a reminder that the show continues exclusively for Patreon subscribers. It's just the two of them this week — Harp's off in San Antonio, so Robert Horry and Rob Jenners are running the show solo, old-school style. No Shoot Around this Friday either, so they're packing everything into one episode.   They start with the good stuff: the NBA dropped a taste of the schedule, and the Christmas Day slate is loaded — Spurs-Knicks, Heat-Celtics, Sixers-Lakers (hello LeBron revenge tour), Thunder-Wolves, and Nuggets-Warriors closing it out. Bob and Rob debate whether Denver deserved the marquee spot over Dallas, and that turns into a bigger conversation about how much longer Jokic and Steph stick around their current teams — and why neither of them should ever, ever run for office.   From there it's opening week previews, a Pistons discussion that gets real about the Jalen Duren contract standoff, and Bob's old war stories about guys faking injuries to force a new deal. Then the Kawhi Leonard stuff. Another secret endorsement deal surfaced this week — this time with Daktronics — and the guys walk through it, plus the resurfaced details from the Lakers' 2019 free agency pitch that the league is now investigating. They get into whether the Clippers star actually suits up this season and what it means if the NBA lets this slide.   Also on deck: Dillon Brooks cashing in with a $73 million extension from the Spurs, Wemby flying the whole Spurs roster to Paris for a mini training camp, and Robert's take on a young guy trying to "lead" without doing anything out of the ordinary.   VJ Edgecombe getting FaceTimed by LeBron leads Bob into one of his own stories from his playing days, and then Scottie Pippen's blunt comments about Zion Williamson's discipline get the full breakdown — including Bob's offer to personally get Zion in shape.   They pay respects to the late, great Don Nelson, run back Adam Vinatieri's surprisingly filthy Hall of Fame speech, and there's a QVC clip that has to be heard to be believed. Big Shot of the Week goes to a Virginia man who donated a kidney to a stranger and wore his Santa hat into surgery to do it.   And to close it out — since it's just the two of them — they finally play 82 and 0 on the show for the first time, drafting all-time rosters and trying (and mostly failing) to go undefeated.   00:00  Kickoff: Just Rob and Rob This Week 01:34  Christmas Day Slate Revealed 02:34  Jokic, Steph and the Nuggets-Warriors Debate 07:05  NBA Opening Week Schedule 08:04  Pistons Outlook and the Jalen Duren Standoff 10:34  Old-School Contract Holdout Stories 12:34  Setting Up 82 and 0 14:11  Kawhi's Latest Secret Endorsement Deal 15:34  The 2019 Clippers Free Agency Allegations 20:34  Will Kawhi Suit Up This Season? 22:34  Dillon Brooks Cashes In 24:34  Wemby's Paris Minicamp 27:05  VJ Edgecombe's LeBron FaceTime Story 29:34  Scottie Pippen Sounds Off on Zion 37:34  Remembering Don Nelson 39:30  Vinatieri's Hall of Fame Roast 40:55  QVC Wig Clip of the Week 42:32  Big Shot of the Week: Dave Bell 43:36  Playing 82 and 0 53:03  TV Talk and Sign-Off

The 49ers' training camp injuries pile up again, and we dig into the Santa Clara substation conspiracy theory behind San Francisco's historic run of bad injury luck. Cal Raleigh follows a 60 home run MVP runner up season with a .161 batting average, and Lincoln Riley heads into a make or break fourth season at USC with the number one recruiting class in the country and zero excuses left. This week: whether Raleigh's power outage is a fixable blip or a 29 year old catcher's body telling the truth, Brock Purdy earning the Layer King nickname from 49ers DC Raheem Morris, Sam Darnold finally getting a real nickname after leading Seattle to a Super Bowl LX win, and whether USC's offense or the defense is the real problem heading into Riley's last chance. Plus a tribute to Don Nelson. Thirty minutes. Caught up, fired up, and ready for the group chat. Subscribe so you never miss an episode.
