Gary Miller wasn't searching for a new religion. He loved serving as a Baptist pastor and felt learning about different religions strengthened his preaching. But when he stumbled across an audio recording of the Book of Mormon while looking for something to listen to on a drive, curiosity led him to press play. On this week's episode, Gary shares how that unexpected decision set him on a six-year journey that ultimately led him from the Baptist pulpit to serving on a stake high council in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. 2:30- Cassette Tapes, Religion, and Searching for Answers 9:04- A Podcast Recommendation 16:11- A Jesus Book 20:00- Identity and Faith 31:40- To a New Member 38:06- The Temple 46:36- The Blessings of the Gospel 49:30- What Does It Mean To Be All In the Gospel of Jesus Christ? Liz's guest Jim Chi is President of Oregon Sports Angels. This week, two of the company founders that he advises are on Shark Tank. So exciting for these two college seniors with a patent in materials science! Jim can't share the result yet (we had to bleep put him out at one point) but Tanvi and Madhav sent a great audio message describing the behind-the-scenes vibe at the Shark Tank taping. Congratulations to Tanvi Gadamsetti and Madhav Aggarwal of BRCE. More here on LinkedIn. More here on BRCE Shop. WATCH SHARK TANK March 4, 10PM ET on ABC.On the episode, Jim talks about how after years as a leader in Product Management and Global Sourcing, he had not intended to focus on advising/mentoring/investing in new founders. Liz Dolan is also a founding member of Oregon Sports Angels and shares her perspective on advising young founders. Oregon Sports Angels is the only angel investing organization in the US devoted exclusively to sports. For HOMEWORK, Jim recommends Edge: Turning Adversity into Advantage by Laura Huang. There is an exciting new book out now from the nation's top sorority rush consultant, Trisha Addicks, called THE RUSH BIBLE: Secrets to Crush Sorority Recruitment and Find Your Forever Greek Home (Simon & Schuster; May 12, 2026). With a record number of 125,000+ women go through sorority rush across the country each year, Trisha's services are in demand now more than ever. If you've tuned into any of the sorority news over the past few years, you're likely already familiar with Trisha. She was the first official rush coach in the business with her consulting firm It's All Greek to Me, which now employs a 24-person team. Trisha has been featured on the front page of the Wall Street Journal and in The Cut and you'll likely recognize her from the HBO Max documentary, Bama Rush. Addicks is the best in the business, but her services come at a high price. Now, for the first time ever, Trisha is lifting the curtain on the rush process in THE RUSH BIBLE, a straight-talking, warm, and prescriptive guide for any panicked young woman (or, let's get real, her mom) facing rush. In episode 677 of the Fraternity Foodie Podcast, we find out what happened to Trisha when she went through recruitment at Georgia, how Trisha describes her work, why now was the right time to the write "The Rush Bible", how the book is different from what we see on social media, how to separate self-worth from bid results, advice for students who feel crushed when they are released, how social media has changed expectations around recruitment, what many students misunderstand about the process, whether recommendation letters matter today, whether being a legacy is really powerful or not, why authenticity is so important in this process, what role parents should play, how we can create healthier recruitment cultures, and how students can reframe rejection when it happens. Enjoy!
Today's guest is Roberta Katz, Liz's faculty advisor at Stanford last year. Roberta is so fun to talk to. She's a senior research scholar at the Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences at Stanford and a PhD Anthropologist. She is the author of the book Gen Z, Explained, a project she describes to Liz as a "second glass of wine idea." Roberta also holds as a law degree, and was previously the General Counsel of McCaw Cellular Corporation (now AT&T Wireless) and then of Netscape Corporation. From 2004 to 2017, she served under Stanford University Presidents John Hennessy and Marc Tessier-Lavigne as the Associate Vice president for Strategic Planning at Stanford.Sponsor:Welcome to our new sponsor Stanford Federal Credit Union. Special Release for Satellite Sisters: On today's Lizness School, we hear two stories from listeners whose big transitions were not by choice. Both of them are longtime Satellite Sisters and regulars in the Satellite Sisters Facebook Group. First we talk to Kathy Douglass, who lost her husband Ron last fall. Since then, she's sold or packed or shipped everything and moved from Minnesota to a town in France she'd never even visited before. Then Liz reads from a message from Doris Matter, who shares what her life as a widow is like on what would have been her 50th wedding anniversary. There's no right way to adjust to losing a partner. There's only your way. Email us about your experience with a life-changing transition at liznessschool@gmail.com.Also today, update from Leah who ran her half marathon in Nashville! Woo hoo! Today's special Lizness School episode is inspired by a letter we received from listener Laura Tiberi asking us to consider how life choices can be different for "those who are faced with significant transitions as a result of medical illness or injury." Laura was "retired by leukemia", has experienced two stem cell transplants and "is 3 1/2 years old in transplant years."We speak to Kira Dales, a fellow Fellow of Liz's at Stanford last year, who tells us of her life since a brain tumor and stroke. Her story includes physical, communication, cognitive and emotional recovery over the last 6 years.Kira Dales on Stanford DCI site and LinkedIn.Homework:Kira recommends Between Two Kingdoms: A Memoir Of A Life Interrupted by Suleika Jaouad. Here is Suleika Jaouad's substack Creative Alchemy: The Isolation Journals. Here is an interview on CBS Sunday Morning with Suleika Jaouad and her husband Jon Batiste. DescriptionToday's Lizness School episode starts with a conversation with John Evans, a Lecturer in Nonfiction in the Creative Writing Department at Stanford University. John was Liz's memoir writing teacher during her year as a Fellow in Stanford's Distinguished Careers Institute. Their conversation is about why people get interested in memoir writing and why being in a memoir writing group can be so meaningful. John leads groups and workshops through Memoir Mentors His two published memoirs are Young Widower: A Memoir (University of Nebraska Press, 2014), and Should I Still Wish: A Memoir. (University of Nebraska Press, 2017)In the second half of the episode, Liz and Leah discuss what they learned about themselves by using The Values Bridge, an assessment tool created by Suzy Welch of the NYU Stern School of Business.Welcome to our sponsor: Stanford Federal Credit Union. Awaken & Manifest Your Best Life: A Spiritual Awakening Podcast
Spiritual awakening in 2025 is changing fast. In this video, I share the top 5 spiritual lessons of 2025, including how AI can weaken intuition, why nervous system healing is essential for spiritual growth, and what it really means to trust your inner guidance during awakening. If you're experiencing a spiritual awakening, developing your intuition, or feeling overwhelmed by information, technology, or AI tools, these lessons will help you reconnect to your inner knowing in a grounded, embodied way.Sharing my top 5 Reality Check Breakthroughs I had this year. In 2025, my spiritual growth changed in ways I didn't expect... This year taught me that spiritual growth isn't linear — it's a spiral, intuition isn't something you “optimize,” and that over-reliance on AI and external guidance can quietly disconnect us from our inner knowing. In this video, I share the top 5 spiritual lessons I learned in 2025, including how intuition develops through nervous system regulation, why growth often reveals itself in strange ways, and how learning to feel safe with uncertainty is essential for spiritual awakening (and the collective chaos happening all around us) This isn't about rejecting technology — it's about discernment, embodiment, and reclaiming intuitive authority in a world that constantly pulls us outward.Lets be clear i'm not anti-AI but I SURE think it's doing something bts to our intuition if we're not careful and it's DESTROYING FREE THINKING. Let's talk about it.✨ In this video, you'll learn:Why spiritual growth happens in spirals, not straight linesHow intuition acts as your guiding post during awakeningThe hidden ways AI can suppress free thinking and intuition when used as a crutchWhy nervous system healing is foundational for intuitive developmentHow to feel safe walking with uncertainty instead of forcing answersIf you're navigating a spiritual awakening, emotional healing, intuition development, or feeling overwhelmed by information overload, this episode is for you. Before you go don't forget:

Who was Harlem Congressman Adam Clayton Powell, why was the House so intent on excluding him in 1966, and how precedential might Powell v. McCormack be for the lawsuit which Arizona has filed on Grijalva's behalf? Powell v.
