A detail of Scouts donated a day's work May 2 to benefit the Passion for Paws Memorial Animal Shelter in Nixon. The Scouts, members of Troop 118 from La Vernia, used materials supplied by American Legion Post 547 in Nixon to build a bench for people to sit on and installed three large tires on the shelter's grounds for dogs to play around. “This will be great entertainment for our rescue dogs, especially the long-stay dogs,” said shelter operator Patsy Scherrer about the tires. No exact date yet, but first, the store needs a “nest” built—a hub for 18 drones to charge, launch, and land. Mayor Michael Caldwell called it a step into the future, saying Woodstock is all about innovation (with safety in mind, of course). So, how does it work? Through the Wing app, you’ll pick your delivery spot—driveway, backyard, wherever—and confirm it’s clear. The drones, fully electric and FAA-regulated, can carry up to 2.5 pounds and fly six miles one way. Groceries, household goods, even over-the-counter meds? All fair game. Alcohol and prescriptions? No. 1 — Sequoyah (8-1, 5-1) The Chiefs? Absolute beasts. Last Friday, they obliterated Pope 70-13, breaking their own scoring record again. QB Kolby Martin was nearly perfect—seven passes, five touchdowns, 169 yards. Oh, and Will Rajecki? Just casually racking up 100+ yards on seven carries. They’re tied for first in Region 6AAAAA and face Creekview next. Buckle up. No. 2 — Creekview (5-4, 5-1) The Grizzlies are rolling. STORY 5: Turn lane coming to Lakeside Drive at Holly Springs Parkway  Changes are on the way for the intersection of Lakeside Drive and Holly Springs Parkway, right where new apartments and townhomes are going up. On Oct. 21, Cherokee County commissioners gave the green light for Calco Engineering to start designing improvements for the intersection. The project, tied to a 2021 rezoning deal with Quintus Development, includes a right-turn lane from Lakeside onto Holly Springs Parkway. As part of that deal, the developer chipped in $200,000 toward the lane’s construction. Now, with $42,000 approved for design work, plans are moving forward. A conceptual design will be reviewed before detailed plans are finalized. Visit the CharacterStrong Website   Mark Chapin is the principal of Meyer Middle School in River Falls, Wisconsin serving approximately 750 students in grades 6 - 8. Meyer Middle School was recognized as a National School of Character in 2016 and again in 2024.  Mark has served as a building administrator in the School District of River Falls for 16 years.   Prior to coming to River Falls, Mark taught for 12 years in the Ellsworth Community School District as a high school special education teacher and an 8th grade US History teacher. While in Ellsworth he also coached cross-country, track, tennis and basketball.  In 2008 Mark was recognized as the Teacher of the Year in the Ellsworth Community School District. In 2019 Mark earned his doctorate degree from Bethel University.  His dissertation focused on character education, leadership and the change process. Mark currently serves as a character education coach through Alverno College and on the Wisconsin Character Education Partnership Advisory Committee.   Mark works closely with the American Legion Post 121 in River Falls serving on their Veterans Memorial Committee. In 2014 he received the Post 121 Community Service Award. Finally, in 2023 Mark was the recipient of the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Leadership award. His wife Cary proudly served in the Minnesota Air National Guard as a C-130 pilot and retired in 2011 after five deployments and 20 years of service. Mark and his wife Cary have four children together: Matthew, Christopher Erik and Emma. In his spare time Mark enjoys spending time with my family, fly fishing, and mountain biking.
