This is the final chapter of my TEDx story before I step onto the stage, and this time, I'm not telling it from the other side. I'm recording it in real time, just days before the talk, while the nerves, perfectionism, and overthinking are very much alive. In this episode, I'm sharing what surprised me about getting close to a big goal, why success can sometimes make our stress patterns louder instead of quieter, and the shift that's helping me stay grounded as the red circle gets closer. Because sometimes the hardest part isn't starting. It's letting yourself arrive. What if real mental strength isn't about pushing through—but knowing when you no longer have to? So many women become the person everyone depends on. They lead at work, care for their families, keep everything running, and somehow continue smiling while quietly carrying more than anyone realizes. In this deeply validating conversation, Dr. Mariza sits down with psychotherapist, bestselling author, and mental strength expert Amy Morin to redefine what it truly means to be mentally strong. Drawing from her own profound experiences of losing both her mother and her husband unexpectedly, Amy shares how resilience isn't built by suppressing emotions or pretending everything is okay. Instead, it's developed through learning how to manage our thoughts, regulate our emotions, and take intentional actions that move us forward, even during life's hardest seasons. Together, they discuss why high-functioning women are especially vulnerable to burnout, how perfectionism and the inner critic keep us stuck, why "good enough" is often exactly what our families need, and how small daily resets can dramatically improve emotional resilience. Amy also shares practical tools for interrupting rumination, quieting negative self-talk, building self-compassion, reconnecting with your values, and creating simple habits that strengthen your mental health over time. If you've been holding everything together for everyone else while quietly wondering how much longer you can keep going, this conversation is the reminder that true strength isn't about carrying more. It's about knowing when it's safe to put some of it down. AMY MORIN Amy Morin is a licensed psychotherapist, bestselling author, keynote speaker, and host of the Mentally Stronger podcast. When you're hungry, you know you're more interested in food. But hunger also changes the way you think—and the effects can spill over into decisions that have nothing to do with eating. Researchers have discovered some surprising consequences of making important choices on an empty stomach. https://www.dundee.ac.uk/press-release/dont-make-major-decisions-empty-stomach-research-suggests Finding cheap airfare has become almost a game. People swear by booking on Tuesdays, searching in incognito mode, or buying tickets at a certain time of day. But how much of that actually works? The truth is that airline pricing is driven by a surprisingly complex system—and once you understand what really causes fares to rise and fall, you can dramatically improve your odds of paying less. Here with an insider's look at how airfare pricing really works is Scott Keyes, founder of Going.com (formerly Scott's Cheap Flights), which tracks airfare deals for more than two million travelers worldwide. Listening to this conversation will save you money. People say they're "burned out" all the time. But are they really? According to the official definition, true burnout is far less common than most people think. In fact, many people who believe they're burned out are actually dealing with something very different—and treating the wrong problem only makes things worse. Psychotherapist and mental strength expert Amy Morin explains how to tell the difference, what burnout really looks like, and the practical steps that can help you regain your energy. Amy hosts the award-winning Mentally Stronger with Therapist Amy Morin podcast (https://amymorinlcsw.com/podcasts/), her TEDx Talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFbv757kup4) has been viewed more than 25 million times, and she is author of The Mental Strength Playbook. In this week's episode, I sat down with the absolutely brilliant London-based author, poet, and songwriter Joshua Luke Smith to discuss his new book, This Is The Main Event: Finding Contentment in the Life You Have. I wanted to chat with Joshua about how we can anchor ourselves in the present moment, overcome the spiritual numbness of modern life, and reconnect with the quiet presence of God in our everyday experiences. From performing on massive stages to running poetry workshops in UK prisons, Joshua shares how leaning into our humanity, embracing our pain through lament, and paying attention to the "ordinary" moments around us can transform our relationship with God and help us realize that the life we long for is already hidden right in front of us.Highlights from this episode include:This Is The Main Event: Joshua breaks down the inspiration behind his new book, sharing how a family mantra turned into a practical, four-stage journey (Invitation, Lamentation, Consecration, and Adoration) toward finding true contentment. The Speed of Love: Exploring the power of slowing down in a fast-paced world. Josh shares simple, intentional habits, from walking slowly to carving out 4 minutes and 44 seconds of daily silence, to hear the actual "sound of your soul."The True Myth & The Power of Story: A deep conversation on why modern culture is hungering for narrative again. We discuss how the Gospel serves as the "true myth" that anchors our isolated, individual lives into something transcendent and shared.Form Finds the Feeling in UK Prisons: Joshua reflects on his work facilitating poetry workshops with offenders. He shares moving stories of how using structure and the Psalms helps men excavate their souls, name their grief, and discover deep repentance.A Closing Blessing: Joshua finishes the episode by sharing a powerful, spoken-word blessing straight from his book to remind us that grace can make broken things repairable.More About Joshua Luke Smith: Joshua is a community builder and podcaster, as well as a poet, author, and songwriter. He's the founder of Orphan No More, a record label and creative community, and The Psalmists, a charity supporting the lives of offenders through creative expression. He's been featured in Complex Magazine, BBC 1XTRA, BBC 6 Music, Premier Radio, UCB Radio, Wordplay, and many other outlets. Joshua has given a TEDx Talk, tours extensively, and speaks internationally on the subjects of spiritual formation and creativity.Connect with Joshua:Book: This Is The Main Event: Finding Contentment in the Life You HaveAmazon UK Linkhttps://www.amazon.co.uk/This-Main-Event-Discovering-Life/dp/191176408X?tag=linkfiregen&ie=UTF8&linkCode=as2&ascsubtag=586b4e59694a42e2717b560ef1bab802&ref=dmm_acq_soc_gb_u_lfire_lp_x_586b4e59694a42e2717b560ef1bab802HarperCollins Linkhttps://www.harpercollins.com/pages/this-is-the-main-eventWebsite & Socials: joshualukesmith.com | @JoshuaLukeSmithFollow For All The Saints on social media for updates and inspiring content:www.instagram.com/forallthesaintspodhttps://www.facebook.com/forallthesaintspod/For All The Saints episodes are released every Monday on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts and more:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVDUQg_qZIU&list=UULFFf7vzrJ2LNWmp1Kl-c6K9Qhttps://open.spotify.com/show/3j64txm9qbGVVZOM48P4HS?si=bb31d048e05141f2https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/for-all-the-saints/id1703815271If you have feedback or any suggestions for topics or guests, connect with Ben & Sean via hello@forallthesaints.org or DM on InstagramConversations to Refresh Your Faith.

You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?Jeffrey: But I do want to say the superpower is Being really good with names, and it's taken a lot of practice and many, many years of work, but being able to meet somebody, remember their name, make a connection, and see them anytime later and be able to call them out, remember their name instead of just being like, hey, buddy. Being able to call someone's name lets them know you see them, you hear them, you care about them, and they're important to you.Post-Hurricane Helene recovery in Western North Carolina needs capital that treats local entrepreneurs as builders, not charity cases. Jeffrey Kaplan, CEO of Optimist Ventures and Director of Venture Asheville, is helping make that possible with a new fund designed for Asheville's real economy.During this episode, Jeffrey explained how Venture Asheville grew out of the region's economic development work. The team had already planned to launch an accelerator and fund before Hurricane Helene. Then the storm hit. Assumptions changed. Fundraising changed. The community changed.Rather than step back, Jeffrey and his team pivoted. Optimist Ventures raised its first fund, invested in seven companies last year and is preparing to invest in 13 more. That matters because, as Jeffrey said, “net new job growth creation is coming out of small businesses.” He sees local entrepreneurship not as a side project but as core economic development. In a place better known for hospitality, food and beverage, health and wellness than high-growth startups, that shift is powerful. The fund pairs philanthropy with investment capital. Each participating company receives $50,000. Half is a grant. Half is structured through a Shared Profit Agreement note, or SPA Note, a new instrument Optimist Ventures created to avoid the limits of traditional grants, debt and equity.Jeffrey described the thesis this way: “Could we create a localized fund that wasn't a debt fund, that wasn't onerous equity, that would also have a built-in liquidity system to get returns to investors without strangling our founders, without forcing exits or acquisitions or IPOs?”The answer became a purpose-fit profit-sharing model. Companies repay from net profit over six years. The structure encourages founders to reinvest, take care of employees and grow sustainably instead of chasing a quick exit.Jeffrey made the impact plain: “Every dollar stays here in Asheville. Every dollar helps recovery. Every dollar is creating a job.”I love this model because it brings dignity and accountability together. Founders get capital and support. Philanthropists get meaningful local impact. Investors get a potential return tied to rebuilding a resilient economy.Optimist Ventures is also welcoming community investors through a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign at ventureasheville.com. That makes this work even more exciting to me. It gives people who care about Asheville a chance to participate in the recovery not just as donors but as investors in the future of the community.tl;dr:Today's episode shows how Optimist Ventures blends grants and investment for Hurricane Helene recovery.Jeffrey explains the SPA Note, a profit-share model designed for resilient Main Street businesses.Today's episode highlights Asheville's choice to rebuild toward what can be, not just what was.Local investors can support recovery through regulated investment crowdfunding and learn more at ventureasheville.com.Jeffrey's superpower, remembering names, reminds us that dignity begins with seeing people. How to Develop Remembering Names As a SuperpowerJeffrey's superpower is remembering names. He told me names matter because they “make such an impression when you're trying to build a network and build community.” For Jeffrey, this is not a party trick. It is a practice of respect. He said, “Being able to call someone's name lets them know you see them, you hear them, you care about them, and they're important to you.” In his work, where social capital helps move philanthropy, investment and entrepreneurship together, remembering names becomes a tool for trust.Jeffrey especially practices this superpower with children. When he meets a friend's child or sees a kid at an event he is emceeing, he learns the child's name immediately, calls them out and invites them to help. He does this because kids need special attention and affirmation. He believes being seen by an adult can shape a child's self-esteem and sense of possibility. That simple act of remembering a name becomes a way to say, you matter here.Say the person's name back immediately after you hear it.Ask how to spell the name so you spend a few extra seconds with it.Visualize the letters of the person's name over their head.Repeat the name early in the conversation to build memory.Connect on LinkedIn or another appropriate platform soon after meeting.Make the name conversation playful by asking about nicknames, spelling or origins.Practice with everyone, including parents at school, kids at events and casual acquaintances.By following Jeffrey's example and advice, you can make remembering names a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileJeffrey Kaplan (he/him):CEO, Optimist VenturesAbout Optimist Ventures: Optimist Ventures is a post-Hurricane Helene economic recovery fund based in Western North Carolina. It pairs $50,000 in capital with a 14-week accelerator for capital-efficient, community-rooted growth, targeting companies with $150,000 to $2 million in revenue. The fund blends grant and investment capital through a new instrument it created called the SPA Note, a hybrid grant-plus-investment structure designed to fund founders in disaster-affected communities without the usual friction between philanthropic and investment capital.Website: optimistventures.coCompany Facebook Page: facebook.com/VentureAVLOther URL: ventureasheville.comBiographical Information: Jeffrey Kaplan is CEO of Optimist Ventures and Director of Venture Asheville. In this episode, Julie talks to Savannah about how every person deserves to be 100% authentic in who they are and how to navigate a relationship where that authenticity is challenged by a partner. Whether the cis-partner is coming to terms with understanding the identity and presentation of their gender-expansive mate or setting up ground rules to limit them so a level of comfortability is achieved for the short-term, the ratification of a proper and fair compromise between partners is not always achievable. When is a compromise beneficial for the partnership and when is it simply one partner forced to give up their agency and autonomy for the comfort of the other?-----SAVANNAH HAUK is the author of “Living with Crossdressing: Defining a New Normal” and “Living with Crossdressing: Discovering your True Identity“. In Western Culture, the idea of men wearing feminine clothes is considered outlandish and fetishistic, while women wearing pants or more masculine articles of clothing is normalized and not seen as out of place. From the necessary changing fashion styles as humans found themselves in the Industrial Revolution to women fighting for their own rights for fashion equality, the modern era is still wrought with inconsistencies and inequalities.-----SAVANNAH HAUK is the author of “Living with Crossdressing: Defining a New Normal” and “Living with Crossdressing: Discovering your True Identity“. While both focus on the male-to-female (mtf) crossdresser, “Defining a New Normal” delves into crossdressing and relationships and “Discovering Your True Identity” looks at the individual crossdressing journey. The question, "What are you doing today?" and the response, "Nothing," might not seem like a life-changing moment to most people. But for Sim Shain, it became the catalyst for everything he has built since. As a paramedic, public speaker, entrepreneur, and CEO of Paraflight Aviation, Sim has dedicated his life to showing up for others. His story is one of stepping out of line, standing up for people who need someone in their corner, and proving that one simple decision can change countless lives. We met Sim years ago when Peri was a camper at Camp Simcha Special. She became severely dehydrated and had to be transported from camp to the local hospital for treatment. Sim rode with her in the ambulance alongside her counselor, kept Peri calm through the whole experience, reassured two terrified parents when they got the call, and then brought her back to camp the very next day. From that moment on, Sim has never stopped showing up for our family. If it wasn't for him, Peri never would have made it to her TEDx Talk in Texas in May 2025. He made it happen, just like he has done for so many people over the years. This podcast episode titled “What are you doing today?” is a special one because it is more than just a conversation. It is a conversation between friends, between people whose lives have been intertwined for years, and between people who believe in the power of giving back and how showing up for others can change everything. We're so excited for you to hear Sim's story. We have no doubt it will leave you thinking about the impact one person can have simply by saying yes when someone needs them.So what are you doing today?

What if everything we've been told about society's problems is missing the bigger picture? In this powerful episode of The MisFitNation Show, host Rich LaMonica sits down with retired U.S. Army Colonel Scott Paradis for a deep conversation about leadership, personal responsibility, economic systems, political division, human potential, and the future of civilization itself. Drawing from a distinguished 30-year military career, service in Congress, experience as a National Security Fellow at Harvard University, and over a decade of research and authorship, Scott presents a thought-provoking perspective on what he calls the "Five Storms" converging across society today. Together, Rich and Scott explore whether humanity is facing collapse—or standing at the threshold of a major evolutionary leap. Throughout the conversation, Scott challenges listeners to rethink power, question fear-based narratives, understand the influence of money and institutions, and recognize the role each individual plays in shaping the future. This episode dives into: • The difference between societal collapse and societal transformation• Why fear remains one of the most powerful tools of influence• The growing divide between wealth, power, and opportunity• How technology is reshaping human behavior and relationships• The hidden impact of political polarization• The importance of awareness and personal responsibility• Why human connection may be the key to navigating uncertainty• Lessons learned from military leadership, Capitol Hill, and Harvard• The concept of Apocalypse vs. Evolution• What signs humanity should watch for over the next five years• How individuals can reclaim their power and influence their future Scott also discusses themes from his books, TEDx Talk, leadership programs, and his latest work examining whether the chaos we see around us is evidence of decline—or a catalyst for growth. If you've ever wondered: "Why does the world feel so divided?""Who really holds power?""Is humanity headed toward collapse?""What can I actually do to make a difference?" In this episode, Savannah chats to Julie about the power of girl talk, especially as it relates to the strong bond between girls like Savannah and the vulnerable and deep conversations that results through and with those that share similar experiences and personal journeys and self-assessments over the years. It creates a lovely shorthand that allows those in the sisterhood a way to connect and converse at a deeper level. -----SAVANNAH HAUK is the author of “Living with Crossdressing: Defining a New Normal” and “Living with Crossdressing: Discovering your True Identity“. Send us Fan MailYou can feel it when your old life still “works” but your body has already started to leave. Beth Clayton joins us to talk about threshold moments, the ones that don't respond to hustle or optimization because they're asking for an identity death. We trace Beth's path from acting to coaching, somatic mentorship, and ceremonialist work, including the tender grief of putting down a beloved dream and the unexpected freedom that can follow a chosen crossing. We also unpack a pattern so many women live inside without naming it: the good girl as a nervous system protector. Beth shares how “good girl syndrome” isn't just people pleasing, it can look like overachieving, cool detachment, avoidance, or doing it all alone. We explore how protectors form through conditioning, attachment pain, and patriarchy, and why your mind may feel liberated while your body still braces against truth, power, intimacy, and pleasure. From somatic work to ritual and end-of-life awareness, we talk about what helps you cross without getting dragged: being witnessed, making space for grief, and learning to relate to protectors with curiosity instead of war. We close with the inner elder, the part of you that can take life seriously while holding it lightly, and how connecting to that wisdom can change what the past even means in your body.Three Truths from this Episode1. Every transformation requires a death.Real transformation isn't about optimizing yourself—it's about crossing a threshold. Every new version of you asks you to grieve a version you once loved. Sometimes we choose that crossing. Sometimes the crossing chooses us. Either way, becoming requires letting go.  2. Your protectors aren't your enemy. The parts of you that procrastinate, overachieve, people-please, avoid conflict, or try to stay in control aren't broken—they're protecting something. The invitation isn't to fight them, but to get curious, listen, and allow them to become guides instead of guards.  3. We aren't meant to cross thresholds alone.Whether you're grieving, becoming a mother, changing careers, ending a relationship, receiving a diagnosis, or simply becoming more yourself, witnessing matters. Many of life's biggest initiations go unnamed. Healing begins when we allow ourselves to be accompanied through them.  Journaling PromptsWhat version of myself am I still trying to keep alive, even though I know she's ready to be released?Where in my life am I standing with one foot in my old world and one foot in my new one?Which of my “protectors” tends to show up most often—my people pleaser, my overachiever, my perfectionist, my avoider, my lone wolf? What is she trying to protect?Where am I waiting to be dragged across a threshold instead of choosing to cross it?What grief in my life has never truly been witnessed? What part of me is asking to come home?Practices to Explore This WeekName your threshold.Instead of waiting until life forces change upon you, ask yourself:What threshold am I standing at right now?Simply naming it often changes how you move through it.  Have a conversation with your protector.Instead of trying to silence the part of yourself that's scared, perfectionistic, controlling, or avoiding…Ask:What are you protecting me from? What do you need me to know? What would help you feel safe enough to soften? As Beth reminds us, you don't fight your protectors—you invite them in.  Create a ritual of release.Thresholds deserve ceremony.Write a letter to the version of yourself you're releasing. Thank her. Name what she protected. Read it aloud. Burn it, bury it, or place it somewhere meaningful as a physical marker that you're crossing into a new season.Resources Beth's WebsiteFollow Beth on IG: @bethclaytoncoachBeth Clayton's Good Girl Protector Quiz, a free assessment to discover your primary protector archetype and learn how it shapes your relationships, purpose, money, and self-expression.  Beth's work can be found through her website, Instagram, and Substack, where she teaches on the Good Girl, Sacred Rebel, embodiment, and threshold work.  Beyond the Veil Retreat (New City, New York): Beth will be leading Crossing Thresholds: Living What Death Teaches, a transformative workshop on using the wisdom of death to navigate life's many initiations. DescriptionIn this episode of Perfect Prey, I'm joined by Jeremy Indika, child sexual abuse educator, survivor, speaker, and advocate. Jeremy shares his own experience of childhood sexual abuse and explains why understanding grooming, coercive control, and child exploitation has never been more urgent.Together, we explore how perpetrators identify vulnerable children, the similarities between child sexual predators and coercive controllers, and why abuse is so often hidden in plain sight. Jeremy explains how grooming happens both offline and online, why "stranger danger" misses the mark, and what parents can do to empower children without taking away their innocence. We also discuss the rise of online exploitation, the importance of body autonomy education, role-playing safety skills with children, and why creating confident, educated children makes them far less attractive targets for predators. This conversation is both deeply personal and incredibly practical—offering parents, caregivers, educators, and professionals the tools to better understand how abuse happens and, more importantly, how we can prevent it.What we cover•Jeremy Indika's story as a survivor of childhood sexual abuse•The connection between coercive control and child sexual abuse•The stages of grooming and how predators build trust•Why children are "perfect prey" for abusers•The dangers of online grooming, pornography, and sextortion•Why "stranger danger" is no longer enough•Body autonomy and age-appropriate abuse prevention•Teaching children confidence, boundaries, and safe disclosure•Why role-playing difficult situations helps protect children•Supporting children without creating fear•Why education—not shame—is the key to preventionWhy listenIf you're a parent, educator, clinician, advocate, or simply someone who wants to better understand how child sexual abuse happens, this episode provides practical, trauma-informed guidance that could help protect a child.Jeremy reminds us that abuse is rarely about force in the beginning—it's about grooming, trust, and manipulation. By understanding these tactics, adults can create safer environments where children are empowered to speak up and predators lose their greatest advantage.Guest BioJeremy Indika is a child sexual abuse educator, speaker, survivor, and advocate dedicated to preventing child sexual exploitation through education and awareness.Drawing from both his lived experience and years of advocacy, Jeremy works with schools, parents, law enforcement, and organizations to teach practical strategies for recognizing grooming behaviors, empowering children, and preventing abuse before it occurs. Through workshops, social media, YouTube, and his podcast, Jeremy is helping make conversations about child protection more accessible, practical, and impactful.Connect with JeremyWebsite: https://www.jeremyindika.comYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@JeremyIndikaInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jeremyindikaTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@jeremyindikaPodcast: https://www.jeremyindika.com/podcastConnect with Dr. Christine:Protective Parenting Program: https://www.coercivecontrolconsulting.com/services/for-parents/Dr. C's Community: https://go.drcocchiola.com/innercirclecommunityOfficial site: https://www.coercivecontrolconsulting.com/YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DrCocchiola-coercivecontrol/videosTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@dr.c_coercivecontrolInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.cocchiola_coercivecontrol/TEDxTalks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp2qByKOue4&t=24sBooks:https://url-shortener.me/c/FramedBookhttps://url-shortener.me/c/EveryMomentOfEveryDayIf this episode landed for you, please share it with someone who needs to hear it, subscribe for more trauma-informed conversations, and consider leaving a review—it helps other survivors find validation and safety.— Dr. Christine Cocchiola & Jeremy Indika
