They have helped over 775,000 children nationwide. Darcy has fostered ten babies and adopted four as a single mother! Darcy's dedication to supporting abused children and navigating the foster care system is truly inspiring. If you're looking to support children in foster care or considering adoption from the system, here are some key ways to make a difference: Educate Yourself on the Process: Understand the ins and outs of the foster care and adoption process. Each state may have different laws and procedures, so it's crucial to familiarize yourself with those specific to your area. Advocate for Legal Change: Stay informed about legislation affecting foster care and adoption. Advocacy can include reaching out to local representatives or participating in community initiatives that push for improved protections and rights for children. Consider Fostering or Adopting: Taking the step to foster or adopt can have a profound impact on a child's life. If you're not ready to foster or adopt, consider supporting foster families in your community. Provide Support to Organizations: Engage with and support organizations dedicated to helping abused and foster children, whether through donations, volunteering, or raising awareness. Seek Legal Advice: If you're contemplating foster care, seeking legal advice can help you navigate the complexities of the process if questions or concerns arise on behalf of the child's rights.   As we listen to this episode, we hear how to take these steps, so we work together and contribute to create lasting and positive change for children in the foster care system.

“Child Abuse casts a shadow the length of a lifetime”               -Herbert Ward  Today's episode will hold the listeners hand as we walk you through a child abuse investigation from someone that has walked this tragic path nearly twenty years with the Dallas Police Department. Detective Corey Foreman hired on with Dallas in 1993 and graduated in Class #238 and then quickly headed to the Northeast Division to begin his career as a rookie cop. However, a prior internship at the Dallas Children's Advocacy Center seemingly foreshadowed the person Corey would eventually become and who he would help to protect as a Detective. The title of Child Abuse Detective elicits cringes and concerned looks for all when they find out they are talking with someone in the Child Abuse Unit. When it comes to crimes and solving certain types of crimes, in my opinion, there is no crime that can literally haunt the victims of those crimes and the people that investigate those crimes more than child crimes.  This episode will detail the early stages of an investigation, the partners involved, the puzzle building, and the emotional toll these investigations can take. We have special guest cohosts in Child Abuse Detective Kristen King and Nakisha Biglow, Director of Partner Relations of Dallas Children's Advocacy Center. Nakisha is a former forensic interviewer and has worked with Corey and assisted the Child Abuse Unit for several years. Detective King has been with the Child Abuse Unit since 2020 and has investigated child crimes ranging from chronic physical abuse, sexual abuse, and child homicide.  We are happy to present the Great Corey Foreman to the ATO stage. Together, they model uplifting partnerships that allow grassroots groups to transform children's lives. Will you join them by volunteering time or donating to organizations like Angels in the Outfield? About Shannon Kmetic Shannon was a Deputy District Attorney for Clackamas County when she founded the Angels in the Outfield in 2009.  She had been a prosecutor since 1996, and her caseload for quite some time had involved domestic violence and child physical and sexual abuse cases.  Shannon had just prosecuted one of the worst sexual abuse in her career, and she realized that more had to be done for this young victim and others like her. She was worried that the "system" was not equipped to deal with long-term issues related to victimization and healing. Shannon was blessed with a wonderful family and supportive parents, but not all children, including vulnerable children who are abused and neglected, get to experience what she did. Shannon's hope was, and is, that the Angels in the Outfield will provide hope to children who fall within our mission. Getting to experience or do things that they may not have otherwise, or participate in an activity or event, or have something that will assist them daily will be the impetus for healing.  Links from this episode: Angels in the Outfield Binky Patrol MrBallen Foundation

A picture is worth a thousand words, especially when that picture is drawn by a sexually abused child who doesn't have the words to tell you. Trigger Warning: For those who have experienced sexual abuse or have a loved one who has been a victim, this episode deals with this topic and may be triggering for survivors. Please contact the RAINN Hotline for supportive services. We wanted to share findings of a study that comes from researcher Scott R. Neubauer and the Child Abuse Education Foundation which details red flags for childhood sexual abuse found in drawings. We'll share how the results of this study can result in parents, educators, and childcare workers becoming significantly better at detecting signs of sexual abuse. To see the gallery or watch the video for the Broken Crayons Exhibit by Amigos for Kids visit: brokencrayons.us To download this booklet from the Child Abuse Education Foundation visit this link. This episode is dedicated to Scott R. Neubauer, who passed away suddenly in 2018, and whose passion in life was for getting help for children being abused. May his legacy live on through his family and important life's work.

Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit Court by President George W. Bush. Judge Saad retired from the appellate court in 2017. The conversation with Judge Saad is focused on concerns raised by America's engaged citizens regarding the deterioration of the rule of law, the actions of the administrative state, and the fate of individual liberty and private property rights. The conversation will also look at how America's rule of law impacts U.S. foreign policy, and specifically the current process put in motion which has allowed Iran — a state sponsor of terrorism to pursue its military goals of developing nuclear arms. While the Biden Administration has failed to hold to account a nuclear-armed Russia for invading a sovereign state on the European continent, the question raised is how will the White House cordon a nuclear-armed Iran from attacking sovereign states in the Middle East including Israel and beyond. The discussion will also highlight the one-year anniversary of the chaotic and disastrous withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan that saw the Taliban take power by force and 13 American service men and women killed in the withdrawal. We also discuss divine timing, inner knowing/intuition, and spiritual awakening. About This Episode: Jonathan Goldsmith is an actor who began his career on the New York stage, then started a career in film and television. He appeared in several TV shows from the 1960s to the 1990s. Before becoming the Most Interesting Man in the World, Jonathan worked as a garbage collector, crashed in bug-infested apartments, and snuck into strangers' bar mitzvahs for free food. He appeared in hundreds of plays, movies, and TV shows, including Dallas, Gunsmoke, and the Clint Eastwood film Hang 'Em High (1968). After he retired from his showbiz career, he found success in a network marketing company for waterless car-wash products – but after his business partnership went bad, he lost it all. It was that loss that pushed him back to Hollywood and helped him to find his defining role as “The Most Interesting Man in the World.” Jonathan has been an advocate for landmine victim support and has assisted the Morris Animal Foundation in their efforts to prevent and cure cancer in dogs. He also supported the S.A.B.R.E Foundation, Free Arts for Abused Children, which pairs artists with children in protective custody, and the Stella Link Foundation, a group calling attention to child sex trafficking in Cambodia. For Jonathan, a large part of his life is about giving back.
