Hey Lifers!Over the past 4 months we have been working on this very special project; a brand new 10 part mini series called Cloud, hosted by Life Uncut’s Executive Producer Keeshia Pettit. Cloud is a podcast series created to discuss ADHD and late age diagnosis; a conversation that was sparked after Keeshia’s own diagnosis. The name Cloud is inspired by the experiences of many late-diagnosed women who describe finally feeling like a “cloud was lifted” after learning more about the different ways that their brains work and how they ‘fit’ into society. With all of the content about ADHD on social media explaining what the condition is, I’ve been on quite a journey figuring out the difference between what I thought were personality flaws and what is actually symptomatic of this condition. I realised that there was a bit of a gap of what to do next. What was I meant to do with all of this information? Cloud was created to fill that gap. It explores the intersection of ADHD with identity, relationships, career, and well-being so that we can live more fulfilling and more present lives. Each episode will offer insight into a different aspect of ADHD from guests like Mark Manson, the author of ‘The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck, psychiatrist Dr Kieran Kennedy, focus and attention expert Johann Hari and relationship experts Sabrina Zohar and Logan Ury. Today’s conversation is about emotional dysregulation, shame, masking, impulsivity, self criticism and success. We chat: Why I was so hesitant to speak publicly about ADHD The ‘oversaturation’ of ADHD content on social media How ADHD presents differently in girls and women Wondering if I'd have known earlier, would life have been easier? How I've changed since diagnosis How Britt & Laura feel I've changed Rejection sensitive dysphoria, emotional dysregulation, shame, impulsivity and time blindness. Am I a chameleon or am I masking? The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson is a refreshing, no-nonsense guide to living a meaningful life by carefully choosing what truly deserves your attention. Instead of chasing relentless positivity, Manson argues that embracing life's struggles, limitations, and inevitable hardships leads to deeper happiness and fulfillment. At its core, the book is about values—understanding that you have a limited number of “f*cks” to give, so you must allocate them wisely. He dismantles the toxic obsession with always being happy, urging readers to accept discomfort, failure, and even pain as necessary for growth.Manson flips self-help clichés on their heads, asserting that: • Happiness comes from solving problems, not avoiding them. • Failure isn't the enemy; it's the foundation of success. • Not everyone is special, and that's okay. • Certainty is an illusion, and doubt leads to wisdom. • Death is the ultimate motivator—so live meaningfully.Through blunt humor, real-life examples, and deep philosophical insights, The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fck* isn't about being indifferent; it's about caring deeply about the right things—your relationships, values, and personal growth—while letting go of everything else.

A new challenger to rival OpenAI's best ChatGPT model has arisen from China named DeepSeek R1. The reason it's causing even more of a stir is because the creators claim DeepSeek R1 was trained for under $5M - a mere fraction of the cost of comparable models to date - and they've open sourced the code, the models, all of it.In the same vein, both TJ and Paige had the chance to try out AI coding assistant Devin.ai firsthand last week. Devin is best described as an energetic junior programmer, and while it offers unique ways of interacting with it: Slack threads, PR comments, and has oversight over multiple repos so it can be asked to do things like compare documentation in one repo to SDK endpoints in another repo, its end value is still questionable.TypeScript validation libraries have been catching on in recent years, and the creators of some of the most popular ones (Zod, ArkType, and Valibot) have gotten together to promote a common interface for libraries called Standard Schema.News:Paige - Standard Schema promotes a common interface for TypeScript validation librariesJack - DeepSeek R1TJ - Our firsthand experiences with Devin.ai and jokes about AI trained coding assistantsBonus News:Matt Biilman coins the next big term in web dev experience: AX (“agent experience”)Vercel acquires dashboard and chart library TremorHas the “Rust wave” crested?Fire Starters:toReversed, toSorted, and toSplicedWhat Makes Us Happy this Week:Paige - The Recruit TV seriesJack - The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ckTJ - Onyx StormThanks as always to our sponsor, the Blue Collar Coder channel on YouTube. Buckle up, listeners. It was only a matter of time before our paths crossed with Mel Robbins, one of the most respected experts on change and motivation in the zeitgeist, and today is that day. Known for being the host of the #1 ranking education podcast in the world, bringing deeply relatable topics, tactical advice, tools, and compelling conversations to her audiences, Jen and Amy spend today's hour diving into Mel's “Let Them” theory, which is taking the world by storm, already delivering instant peace and freedom in the lives and relationships of people putting it into practice. Together, they discuss: The difference between “Let Them” and “Let Me” Learning to release the white-knuckle grip we hold over other people's behavior (and other things beyond our control) Reframing disappointment to view it as a gift (yes, it's possible!) Repositioning self-worth inward, rather than leaving it dependent on others' opinions. *** Thought-provoking Quotes: “For a lot of women, we spend so much time upstairs in our heads as people-pleasers and over-analyzers, over-thinking and ruminating, trying to get things perfect. That's the last place I should be, personally. I need to drop into my body and get out of my head.” – Mel Robbins “People reveal who they are and what they care about through their behavior. Ignore their words. Watch their behavior. Let people be who they are. Let them do what they're going to do. Focusing on them is not where your power is.” – Mel Robbins “The difference between ‘not my business' and ‘let them' is worlds apart. When you say, ‘not my business', you're scolding yourself. Welcome to the second of a multi-part series where I cover brief and not-so-brief highlights from many of my favorite podcast guests! Learn about Gretchen Rubin’s 4 Tendencies (Upholder, Questioner, Obliger, and Rebel), hear a major life lesson from my 107-year-old barber, and another one from Seth Godin, who reminds us to “turn that s*it off!” when faced with distraction. You’ll hear from Ray Sidney, Google’s fifth-ever employee, on the importance of pure motivation, why Mark Manson says “self-worth is an illusion”, and that our purpose in life is to “create a string of hope narratives.” I share key advice from John Assaraf on how to rewire your brain for success, as well as important words from Dr. Ron Sinha, who warns us of the dangers of rumination and consumerism—the “hedonic treadmill.” You will also hear from Dr. Robert Lustig, who describes the “hacking of the American Mind” with corporate-driven instant gratification dopamine hits, Dr. Judson Brandeis on sexual health, and learn how to improve your eyesight with Jake Steiner. Finally, William Shewfelt offers a powerful perspective on having a resilient success mindset and Jeff Kahn explains the sleep bank account. TIMESTAMPS: In her book, Gretchen Rubin categorizes four main categories that people fall into with their behavior patterns. They are the upholder, the questioner, the obliger, and the rebel. [00:49] Here's what the research shows. The population, 41% of the population are obligers. 24% are questioners, 19% are upholders, and 17% are rebels. [12:55] The world’s oldest barber, at 107, gave Brad a haircut and inspired Brad’s longevity aspirations. [13:40] Seth Godin talked about persevering especially in athletics. [17:24] You must motivate yourself for the right reasons. [19:50] Mark Manson says that self-worth is an illusion, and it's actually a form of persistent low-level narcissism. You can learn to merge your thinking brain with your feeling brain. [23:11] The brain-training expert, John Assaraf, talked about the obstacles to rewiring our brain. You need to take baby steps. [30:31] If you are on the treadmill of the rat race of trying to achieve more and more, you are sacrificing your health and mental well-being. [33:57] When you ruminate about the past, that generally promotes depression and ruminating about the future, generally promotes anxiety. [37:08] Dr. Brandeis contends that 95% of erectile dysfunction problems are psychological. There is nothing wrong with the plumbing. [40:51] Jake Steiner is an expert on vision is challenging some of the foundational premises of using corrective eyewear. [42:47] William Shewfelt talks about having a plan, locking in that mindset and just never giving up. [44:26] Jeff Kahn, sleep expert suggests that you treat your sleep like a bank account. When you experience a deficit for whatever reason, strive to make that up. [48:48] In the last 40 years, government legislation and subsidies have promoted an ever- available temptation combined with constant stress, with the end result of an unprecedented epidemic of addiction, anxiety, depression, and chronic disease. In a conversation with Sabrina, Mark Manson shares insights on navigating relationships from the perspective of an avoidantly attached individual. Drawing from his 12-year marriage, Mark emphasizes the importance of open communication and realistic expectations, especially in long-distance relationships. He advises having clear end goals and intentional conversations about logistics and contact frequency to maintain connection.  Diving into Mark's own avoidant tendencies, he and Sabrina explain how avoidance often stems from fear rather than lack of care or feelings. Mark highlights the significance of allowing space in relationships and how his wife's patience helped him transition from avoidant to secure attachment. For anxious partners, they stress the need to become comfortable with an avoidant partner's need for space, noting that healing happens through gradual trust-building.  Sabrina and Mark agree that understanding different standards and managing expectations are crucial for relationship success. Mark also touches on societal pressures, self-improvement, and the importance of addressing negative self-talk through journaling and mindfulness. Ultimately, they emphasize that thriving in life and love is about embracing challenges and fostering meaningful connections through honesty and self-awareness.
