The Elmendorf Economic Development Corp. (EEDC) has approved a three-year contract with Retail Strategies LLC to help grow the local economy. The city corporation's board members took the action Aug. 14 at an early-afternoon meeting, following a presentation by Tyler Sudderth, Retail Strategies' director of community partnerships. Equestrian performances are not unusual, but when the River City Renegades enter the arena, the audience is in for a unique entertainment experience. Longtime Poth High School Head Volleyball Coach Patti Zenner has been recognized by the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) with its Hall of Fame Award. Stockdale centenarian Theresa Shaw, born in October 1922, celebrates her 103rd year of life with a meal June 7 at La Vernia's Den restaurant. Shaw, who served as a nurse in World War II, has longevity in her genes; her mother lived to the age of 104, and Theresa and six of her siblings were celebrated in 2022 by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the highest combined living age of siblings, at 682 years and 36 days. Multiple emergency service agencies responded to a fire on Memorial Day, May 26, in far west Wilson County that took five hours to extinguish.
