New Mexico Woman Charged with Murder After Husband's Body Found Wrapped in Plastic in Their Carport Deana Thetford of New Mexico has been charged with first-degree murder after authorities discovered her missing husband, Craig Thetford, dead and hidden in their carport. She allegedly confessed to shooting him during a domestic altercation, then used a tractor to move and conceal his body for months before fleeing to Texas. Craig Thetford was reported missing in May 2024; his body was found a month later wrapped in plastic under trash. Deana Thetford allegedly told her daughter she shot Craig in a rage and dragged his body with a tractor. She fled to Texas, where she bought property using cash; over $84,000 and firearms were later found in their safes. Thetford is being held without bond in Wichita County Jail and faces charges of first-degree murder and evidence tampering. A New Mexico woman who initially told police that her husband had gone to Mexico with another woman has been arrested and charged with his murder after authorities discovered his decomposing body hidden under trash and debris in the carport of their shared home. Deana Thetford was taken into custody in Wichita County, Texas, and is being held without bond on charges of first-degree murder and tampering with evidence, according to the Otero County Sheriff's Office and court records. She is accused of killing her husband, Craig Thetford, 60, sometime between January and May of 2024, and hiding his body for months on their property in Otero County, New Mexico. The investigation began on May 12, 2024, when concerned family members requested a welfare check after not hearing from Craig since January. When Otero County deputies visited the Thetfords' residence on May 15, Deana claimed Craig had left her and gone to Mexico with a new girlfriend to go fishing. She also told deputies the couple was in the process of divorcing. Deana showed deputies two locked safes that reportedly belonged to her husband, stating she didn't know the combinations. She claimed that Craig had taken as much as $1.5 million in cash with him to Mexico. However, inconsistencies in her statements soon emerged. During a follow-up interview, she changed her story, now saying Craig had gone to Texas to care for his mother—a claim his sister later disputed. Deputies also noticed unusual details on the property, including a 4- to 5-foot-deep hole in the front yard, which Deana said was intended for a raised garden bed, and non-functioning security cameras that could have recorded any activity around the time of Craig's disappearance. On May 13, just one day after the initial welfare check, Deana's adult daughter called investigators and revealed disturbing details. According to her statement, Deana admitted during a phone call that she and Craig had a violent altercation, during which he allegedly pushed her down the stairs. In a fit of rage, Deana allegedly shot Craig multiple times. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? GDP Script/ Top Stories for July 12th Publish Date: July 12th PRE-ROLL: From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Saturday, July 12th and Happy Birthday to Christine McVie I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Gwinnett charges dropped against detained journalist Mario Guevara Georgia Power to update energy forecasts amid uncertain demand Lawmakers conclude listening tour on access to cancer care All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: 07.14.22 KIA MOG STORY 1: Gwinnett charges dropped against detained journalist Mario Guevara Local journalist Mario Guevara, known for covering Atlanta's Hispanic community and ICE operations, is no longer facing traffic charges in Gwinnett County. Solicitor General Lisamarie Bristol announced insufficient evidence to prosecute charges of reckless driving, unlawful use of a telecommunication device, and failure to obey signs, as the incidents occurred on private property. However, Guevara still faces federal immigration charges, with ICE questioning his legal status despite his work permit and ongoing efforts toward permanent residency. Guevara claims he is being targeted for his journalism, which has drawn local and national attention. STORY 2: Georgia Power to update energy forecasts amid uncertain demand Georgia Power's 2025 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) faces scrutiny for overestimating energy demand, driven by the rapid growth of data centers. Critics, including environmental groups, argue the projections could leave ratepayers covering billions in stranded assets if demand falls short. While Georgia Power committed to updating forecasts and reporting on large-load projects, many called for stronger demand-side management (DSM) efforts to reduce energy needs. The utility plans to increase DSM spending from $90M to $160M annually, but some remain dissatisfied. The PSC will vote next week, with debates ongoing over coal plant operations and natural gas upgrades. STORY 3: Lawmakers conclude listening tour on access to cancer care Around 66,000 Georgians will be diagnosed with cancer this year, with 19,000 deaths expected, prompting state lawmakers to study ways to reduce these rates. Georgia exceeds national averages for lung, prostate, breast, and colorectal cancer, with rural areas facing significant barriers to care due to rising costs, limited access, and medical industry consolidation. Experts highlighted issues like pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) controlling drug markets and low reimbursement rates for clinics. Lawmakers aim to address drug pricing, access to screenings, and systemic healthcare challenges, with plans to continue studying cancer care access and solutions. We’ll be right back Break 2: STORY 4: Deputies: Buford man threw deep freezer at 59-year-old at Lake Lanier after fight over nudity A Buford man, Logan Nicholas Young, 42, was arrested on July 3 after a bizarre incident on Lake Lanier involving public indecency, a fight, and a flying deep freezer. Young allegedly got naked on a boat, argued with a 59-year-old man, punched him, and later threw a deep freezer at him, causing a head injury and knocking him into the lake. Deputies found Young hiding under a bed on his houseboat after he ignored their attempts to contact him. He was charged with six offenses, including aggravated assault, and released on bond on July 6. STORY 5: Robert Michener named Gateway85 CID's interim executive director The Gateway85 Community Improvement District (CID) appointed longtime employee Robert Michener as interim executive director following Emory Morsberger's resignation after nearly 20 years of involvement. Michener, with 17 years at Gateway85, previously served as director of operations, overseeing infrastructure, security, and landscaping projects. Board Chairman Shiv Aggarwal praised Morsberger's contributions and welcomed Michener's leadership during the transition. The CID will continue focusing on economic development, mobility, and quality of life improvements as it searches for a permanent leader. Michener expressed excitement about guiding the district's next phase of growth. Break 3: STORY 6: 'Superman' stars excited to bring DC reboot to theaters Edi Gathegi, Isabela Merced, and Anthony Carrigan star in the new "Superman" reboot, with Gathegi playing Mr. Terrific, Merced as Hawkgirl, and Carrigan debuting as Metamorpho. At a red carpet event in Atlanta, Gathegi contrasted his survival as Mr. Terrific with his infamous death as Darwin in "X-Men: First Class." Merced highlighted the mix of CGI and practical sets, comparing her Hawkgirl role to her experience in "Dora the Explorer." Carrigan, excited to bring fan-favorite Metamorpho to life, praised the detailed makeup used instead of CGI. STORY 7: Gwinnett fire investigators say arsonist tried to burn down Lawrenceville home Gwinnett County fire officials are investigating a suspected arson at a Lawrenceville home on Clairidge Lane on June 27. Firefighters responded to a fire alarm and smoke report, discovering an incendiary device behind the home. The fire was out by the time they arrived, and no injuries were reported. Officials are seeking public help to identify the suspect, with a potential reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Tips can be directed to the Gwinnett Fire Investigations Section or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline. On February 11, 2022, David Shier disappeared from his home in Trinidad, Colorado. That morning, his wife, Rosemarie, saw him around 11 a.m. before she left home to run some errands. When she returned later that day, David was gone. She tried calling him, but he didn't answer. She also reached out to friends and family, but no one had seen or heard from Dave. As the hours passed and Dave failed to return home, the family decided it was time to report him missing.Dave's truck was still parked at home, so it was assumed that he may have left on foot, possibly heading to his workshop in the neighboring town of Starkville. Deputies went to the shop and gave the area a quick look, but there was no sign of him there. They combed the path between his home and the workshop, but still no clues. Later, it was discovered that a neighbor's trail camera captured Dave walking away from his property on the day he vanished, but it wasn't enough to tell where he was going or what may have happened next. Despite extensive searches of the surrounding area, not a single trace of David Shier was ever found. For a while, it seemed like the case had gone cold. But about a year later, something unexpected happened, something that brought David's name back into the spotlight. The county coroner came under scrutiny by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation after being accused of improper secret burials, misuse of funds, and shocking misconduct. At first, it sounded like a completely unrelated scandal, but something shocking and unexpected happened that prompted the investigation. While exhuming the body of one man, investigators found a second body buried in the same grave. A body that wasn't supposed to be there. For the Shier family, the possibility that it could be Dave was chilling. The mystery surrounding Dave's disappearance only deepened, leaving his loved ones with more questions than answers. If you have any information regarding the disappearance of David Shier, please contact the Las Animas County Sheriff's Office at 719-846-2211.If you have a missing loved one that you would like to have featured on the show, please fill out our case submission form.Follow The Vanished on social media at:FacebookInstagramPatreonSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Branden Keith Orr is an alleged predator caught in a Polk County, Florida investigation of Takedown with Chris Hansen. Known for working as a lifeguard at Disney World and giving ghost tours, Orr became infamous for fleeing the sting house and being tased by deputies in the yard. As part of Operation Cyber Guardian, the Polk County Sheriff's Office set up a sting house and was “bombarded” with men attempting to meet minors for sex. Orr was one of them, engaging in an explicit chat with a decoy posing as a 14-year-old girl. He quickly escalated the conversation, suggesting they watch a movie, cuddle, make out, and have sex—promising to bring a condom. When the decoy asked if sex would hurt, he replied, “It's not going to hurt for me.” After a 45-minute drive, Orr parked, briefly left, then returned and approached the house—only to suddenly flee. Deputies chased him around the yard and tased him before arresting him. A condom was found in his back pocket. Once detained, he was brought back inside, where Chris interviewed him while officers searched him. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Florida Mom, Rachiel Moore Gets Life Without Parole for Hiring Ex-Stepdad to Take Out Father In Custody Battle A 27-year-old Florida mother will die in prison for orchestrating the murder of her 4-year-old daughter's father—an ambush carried out in front of the child only hours after a judge granted the victim shared custody. On Thursday, Santa Rosa Circuit Judge Clifton Drake sentenced Rachiel Moore to life without the possibility of parole for the March 2023 slaying of 24-year-old Colby Vinson. A jury had convicted Moore of first-degree murder and evidence tampering, finding she enlisted her former stepfather, 55-year-old Jason Curtis, to pull the trigger. Curtis was convicted of the same murder in May and also received life without parole. Prosecutors said phone and social-media records showed Moore and Curtis traded messages “all week” plotting the hit. Moore wired gas money and provided Vinson's home and work addresses, physical description, and daily routine so Curtis—nicknamed “Booger”—could identify and kill him. Deputies were dispatched just after 10 p.m. on March 19 to an apartment complex on Navarre Parkway, about 170 miles west of Tallahassee. They found Vinson on his back outside his doorway, shot once in the face, as his preschool-aged daughter stood beside his body unharmed. Moore's godmother told detectives the shooting came the very night Vinson first exercised overnight visitation in nearly a year. Hours earlier, a family-court judge had awarded him split custody after a contentious legal fight with Moore. When investigators questioned Moore, she admitted venting to Curtis about the ruling. She said Curtis responded by sending Facebook Messenger photos of guns and knives. Moore thanked him “for making her feel better” and then deleted the app, later claiming she had not believed Curtis would act on his threats. According to the probable-cause affidavit, Curtis phoned Moore around 10 p.m. on the night of the murder and told her, “You don't have to worry about it—everything is fine. I have to put my a-- in the wind.” Moore described his tone as “excited” and promised to reimburse him $50 for gas. License-plate readers and cellphone data placed Curtis's vehicle on a northbound route to Alabama, where state troopers arrested him the next day. Inside the car, officers recovered a handgun believed to be the murder weapon and a handwritten note listing Vinson's appearance and both residential and workplace addresses. During trial, jurors heard that Moore deleted messages, removed apps from her phone, and asked acquaintances to lie about her whereabouts in an effort to hide her involvement. The tampering conviction stems from those attempts to erase digital evidence. After Thursday's sentencing, State Attorney Ginger Bowden Madden praised local, state, and federal agencies that “worked seamlessly to secure justice for Colby Vinson and his daughter, who witnessed an unimaginable crime.” Moore showed little emotion as she was led from the courtroom in shackles. She offered no apology to Vinson's family, who filled several rows wearing blue ribbons in the victim's memory. Curtis remains in a Florida state prison; Moore will soon join him, both without any chance of release. Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
