A Floresville teen faces multiple charges, after fleeing from Wilson County Sheriff's Office personnel. According to the sheriff's office, a deputy attempted a traffic stop at approximately 2 a.m. on Nov. 12 on a white Dodge Ram truck near Enchanted Oak Drive and Rolling Hills Drive near La Vernia. “The driver fled at a high rate of speed, eventually driving through a fence and immobilizing the vehicle in the brush,” said Public Information Officer Zach Garcia. Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) 5 has lost a second attempt to increase revenues through a sales-and-use tax election. In the Nov. 4 election, a proposition to adopt a 1.25-percent sales-and-use tax for the 256-squaremile district in central and western Wilson County received 681 votes for and 892 votes against. The tax would not apply to sales and use within the city limits of Floresville, where state and local taxes have already reached the 8.25 percent allowed by state law. For the last 40 years Chester Dugi (center) has been gracious enough to allow Wilson County 4-H to place a sign on his property off U.S. 181. Wilson County may be home to an AI data center in the near future. A renewable energy and data infrastructure project — called Misae Energy Hub — is aimed to be established on 2,742 acres near Stockdale, through a company called Misae Investments. Volunteers are invited to join in painting a colorful mural planned for downtown Floresville. Wilson County Extension Master Gardeners (WCEMG) had a busy October, with lots of opportunities to share with the community. Goober Games on Oct. 7, the group assisted children with planting peanuts. Later that week, Master Gardener Intern Garden Granny Kim Mahr taught a class at La Vernia Primary School about planting peanuts, and the teacher had them write a report. Wilson County Emergency Services District 2 (ESD 2) announces a significant achievement that may benefit property owners throughout its service area in the North Central region of Wilson County. Following a comprehensive evaluation by the Insurance Services Organization (ISO), ESD 2 has earned an improved Class 4 Public Protection Classification rating; this is an advancement from the district's previous Class 6 rating in 2015. A sign honoring Charlie Kirk, the founder of conservative advocacy organization Turning Point USA who was assassinated Sept. 10, goes up Oct. 3 on a site between U.S. 87 and Chihuahua Street in La Vernia. Kirk, 31, was shot and killed while speaking at an event on the campus of Utah Valley University. Reports of heavy smoke sent crews from two Wilson County agencies to a restaurant in Stockdale early Monday morning. A Friends of NRA committee has officially formed in Wilson County. The 501(c)3 organization is a grassroots program that fundraises for the National Rifle Association of America (NRA). A Castroville man is facing charges of evading arrest, after he led local law-enforcement personnel on a 100-mph chase north of Floresville Saturday. The Wilson County Sheriff's Office was notified Oct. 4 at approximately 12:08 p.m. of a stolen Ford F-250 which had entered Wilson County. Workforce Solutions Alamo reports the August 2025 unadjusted unemployment rate for Wilson County is 4.2 percent, increasing from 3.7 percent in July 2025. Part 2 of 3. After the disappearance of Patty Vaughan in the fall of 1996 under suspicious circumstances, the Bexar County Sheriff's Office was reluctant to name her husband JR a suspect, although they admitted the investigation was centered around him. The circumstances surrounding Patty's abandoned Dodge Caravan were highly suspicious, as was the idea that she would leave her children behind. Blood evidence found in the minivan and in her Wilson County home certainly indicated foul play but still, with no body, authorities declined to make an arrest, or, it seemed, treat the case as a homicide.
