A construction crew installs a lumber support July 22 to the portico structure of the Wilson County Courthouse's front entrance. Three of the courthouse's four main entrances were closed off temporarily, due to large pieces of concrete falling from the covered entryways. A new EMS station could take shape in eastern Wilson County. Wilson County Emergency Services District 3 (ESD 3) was approached by a developer with a proposal for a new station in ESD 3's coverage area. ESD 3, through Wilson County District 3 EMS, provides emergency medical services to all of eastern Wilson County, an area of approximately 400 square miles. There will be no reserve deputy constables in Wilson County — for now. During their July 28 meeting, county commissioners heard a presentation by Pct. 1 Constable Santiago “Jimmy” Morales, asking them to approve appointing reserve deputy constables. The Dewees Remschel House, located in southern Wilson County 5 miles southwest of Poth, off of F.M 541 and C.R. 206, sits on a 130-acre park. Wilson County officials advise that C.R. 122 northwest of Floresville remains closed Wednesday, July 9. Work to install drainage structures in the 2200 block of the road began Tuesday; however, due to rain, material placed on the road was washed away. The continuing work will not block access to any driveways. The remainder of C.R. 122 will be open to normal traffic, but drivers will not be able to travel from F.M. 1303 to F.M. 2579 using C.R. 122. The Texas Tribal Buffalo Project, in partnership with The Conservation Fund, has secured the Carney tract, a 149.5-acre parcel of vital pastureland within the historic Lipan Apache territory and traditional bison range in Wilson County. The project's mission is to restore the cultural and ecological significance of the bison to Indigenous communities. This tract of land is located on F.M. 536 west of Floresville, between F.M. 2579 and F.M. 2505. The Wilson County Courthouse will be under emergency repair in the near future. Visitors to the courthouse, built in 1884, may have noticed three of the building's four main entrances have been roped off; this is due to the deteriorating porticos at each of those entrances, where large pieces of concrete have fallen since early this year. The San Antonio River floods into the lower part of the Floresville River Park on Friday, June 13, causing Floresville officials to close off the area as water levels continued to rise. A flood warning for the river was also issued that evening, and was lifted Sunday, June 15, as the flood stage fell below 21 feet. Flood stage for that part of the river is 27 feet; this past weekend's flooding was below the previous high crest of 38.1 feet, recorded in June 2016.
