Last week while speaking at the Women Empower Expo in Ft. Lauderdale Florida, I had two people ask me a very important question: What if I don't have a vision? In this episode, I share some tools to help you find your vision and get clear on what you want to create in your life.
Alexa Carlin is a nationally renowned public speaker, Founder & CEO of (WEX), an acronym for Women Empower Expo, and Creator of the speaker training program, BeAPublicSpeaker.com. She launched the (WEX) in 2016 and grew it to become the largest premiere event for female leaders, entrepreneurs and executives. Alexa has been featured on FOX, ABC, CBS, Cheddar TV and The Oprah Winfrey Network. Her drive to make a difference was inspired after a near-death experience that happened during her senior year at the University of Florida in 2013 leaving her with a 1% chance of living. This experience inspired Alexa to share her story. Today, Alexa travels the world as a sought-after public speaker on the topics of entrepreneurship, authentic leadership, women's empowerment and overcoming obstacles. In this episode Alexa shares with us her inspiring story of having to start all over again after a grueling recovery and how she has turned her passion into a thriving career. Alexa talks to GGB about the importance of being an authentic leader and redefining ways to truly connect by simply being you. She emphasizes how vital it is to bring women from all over the world to connect at WEX and the strength in building community with one another. Alexa makes this event affordable and accessible to everyone and provides the chance for attendees to hear from over 60 speakers from all walks of life. Ever felt like you’re a ghost wandering the halls of your workplace? Sure, you’re physically there, but the REAL YOU is nowhere to be found. You’re mentally checked out, emotionally drained, and showing up as a watered-down, hollow version of yourself. In this month’s interview with a normal person, Kristen is chatting with Lana Jackson, who was all too familiar with that feeling. After years of feeling like a ghost of her real self, trapped by a boring, soul-sucking job, she decided it was time to get clear on what she *really* wanted out of her life and career. Now she’s a budding entrepreneur and personal stylist helping women express themselves from the inside out. She shares the whole journey with us, in this interview. On this episode we talk about: The heartache of feeling lost, directionless, and inauthentic The 3 questions Lana asked herself to figure out exactly what she wanted to do career-wise Lana’s advice for staying sane while balancing a full-time job and a side hustle Why making time for silence is the most productive thing you can do Style tips for women who want to feel more empowered and confident (and just generally in life) MORE ABOUT LANA Lana Jackson is a wardrobe stylist and founder of Narrative Styling, an image consulting firm that helps women build versatile and effective wardrobes that work from day to night and every occasion in between. Lana believes that style can be used by women to take back their power, because the way you style yourself can give you power over the story you present to the world, and change the narrative of how you feel and how you want others to feel about you too. Lana is passionate about teaching women how to simplify their dress routines, make the most of the clothing they have, and find clarity with a beautifully refined wardrobe – one that fits their lifestyle needs – allowing women to focus on the things that really matter, like their family, career, and other passions. The concept of “mind over matter” is incredibly powerful, especially when it comes to your health and healing. You may not have control over everything in your life, but you do have complete power over how you feel. You have control over your dreams, your goals, and how you pursue them. I say, ‘I'm going to make a difference in at least one person's life, every single day.’ When you start on the individual level, that creates a ripple effect.” —Alexa Carlin “The impact you're making in the world is happening, you just may not see it. But that's the thing—you don't have to see it. All you have to know is that you are doing your best to create that positive impact.” —Alexa Carlin “Confidence is a lifelong journey. You have to work on it every single day.” —Alexa Carlin “It's not like you have so many hours of work and so many hours to live…. This is your life. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend a slice of my birthday podcasting with than the inspiring spiritual life coach and yoga instructor, Jennifer Martin. We met up following her yoga class at the Hilton West Palm Beach where she teaches on Saturdays, and had this very uplifting conversation. Not only is she super-charged for spreading her life’s message through yoga and public speaking, but she is also a beautiful writer who regularly shares her inspirational and motivational musings on Instragram. Hers is definitely an account you want to follow!!), but also pens articles with messages like this: “The best decision I’ve ever made was leaving my corporate job and opening my first yoga studio. I’ve made sacrifices, but I get intense joy from sharing my passion. I’m so grateful for all that I have, I aspire to make an even bigger impact. Be relentless in your life’s pursuit. It's a disservice to the world not to share your gifts.” Clearly, with a message like that being so aligned with the purpose of this podcast, it was pure kismet that Jennifer and I were able to both geek out with and energize one another about the joy that is faith and following your dream!
