Be sure to find Business in the Bedroom - A Bootstrapper's Guide to Doing It, with ME--Curve the Cube host, Jaime Legagneur. I've built my business, Flint Stone Media, from MY bedroom as my passionate pursuit of making OTHER people's dreams and goals come to fruition. I started my first podcast on this subject back in 2014, calling it "Curve the Cube," interviewing other people on how they had been finding success doing what they truly love--in order to guide not only myself, but also others. And, I've been building a business around helping others achieve their OWN business goals ever since. So, this new show, Business in the Bedroom, is my latest effort to do just that, and I'm sooo happy that you're going to be joining me. Normally, this show will be delivered every other week on Mondays. But, I'm getting things ready to launch on Monday, January 4th with a strong 8-episode push, which I'll give a rundown for in this trailer, so you can know what's coming up! Welcome to the THIRD ANNIVERSARY episode of the Curve the Cube Podcast!! My special guest on this milestone of a day is author and entrepreneur, James Oliver, Jr. of WeMontage, who wrote a book that I absolutely fell in love with and have discussing in pieces with a few of my most recent guests. His book, The More You Hustle, the Luckier You Get, provides a deluge of raw, relatable trials and triumphs that all of us shooting for a dream can find both humor and comfort in. In this episode, James parses out the difference between being a successful entrepreneur and having a successful business, and we touch back on those concepts I discussed earlier in this series of episodes: Listening to that inner voice and honoring your true self Going out on your own takes effing hard work Keeping the faith "Don't make safe choices in life because it's convenient to do so." James doesn’t pull any punches and was simply the PERFECT pick to sum up some of the main touch points I’ve been covering all along on this show. So…. Enjoy!! And, thank you from the bottom of my heart for listening for these past three years; as you've heard me say on the last couple of episodes, my plan has been to flipping the name of the show from from “Curve the Cube: Where Dreamers Become Doers” to “Dreamers Become Doers: Curve the Cube and Do the Impossible.” But, after a very thoughtful conversation with my mentor, Glenn the Geek from the Horse Radio Network, there is an even BIGGER change that I now have planned for the show and hope you can all get behind. As the coincidence of good timing would have it, Glenn and I will be spending some time together this weekend. So, he’ll join me in recording a fully fleshed-out announcement and explanation of that change. So, be sure to look for that, as it could even be released ahead of the next scheduled release date for the show, which would normally be the first. I had a chance to catch up with long-time friend of the podcast--artist and photographer, Jamaal "Visualist" Clark. We chat about his painting, his photography, and expanding his horizons and his vision for the future! Now, I didn't have a chance to record a Learning Curve segment for this episode. Things have been CRAZY these last couple of weeks with technical issues post-Hurricane Irma and with preparing for my International Podcast Day broadcast. But, I promise to get The Learning Curve back on track for the next episode!! Also, I'll be starting up a new segment in a future episode where I share something cool that a former guest or one of you guys is doing in pursuing your dream. One of my favorite people (and my birthday buddy), Jason "Jafleu" Fleurant, visits the podcast FOR THE THIRD TIME!! He's our first three-peat, and this is our most exciting conversation to DATE! He shares fun stories of his milestones, opens up about the struggles, lays down insightful knowledge, and comes through with all the feels. He is a remarkable talent who is a rising star!! Included in this episode is a VERY special announcement of my own--one that is a culmination of 6 months of solid hard work on my part and mentorship on the part of Glenn the Geek from the Horse Radio Network. It's HUGE. This episode is being released ahead of schedule, as Hurricane Irma is most likely going to knock out my power and internet for a while. Eek! Thanks for joining me on my second annual birthday episode! Episode #122 will sound very different, as I sewed together a number of daily Podcast Movement recaps with the newly-discovered Anchor App almost exclusively using my phone. The audio quality does vary from clip to clip, as I was experimenting on the fly with the app in part for the next episode of Eggheads After Hours, out on the 3rd. In addition to my PM17 adventures, you'll hear my IGNITE presentation, my interview with Chris Krimitsos--the man behind The Messengers: a Podcast Documentary, and (what I was most excited about) my birthday interview with Glenn Hebert from the Horse Radio Network! Hey! Welcome to episode 121 of Curve the Cube where we talk to people walking the walk--those dreamers who've become doers--or, "curvists," as I like to call them, since they curve their way around those obstacles and figure out how to get stuff done. And, this episode features a lady who I am not only so happy, but also so proud to call a friend. Her name is Kate Volman, and if you are also a fan of my other podcast, Eggheads After Hours, then you have heard her voice before giving all kinds of fantastic tips, or "Business Bites," as she calls them, about how to propel your business forward. She is undeniably smart and strategic, AND she has figured out how to really craft her career with purpose. Kate's specialty is vlogging--a.k.a., “video blogging”--and using videos to create fantastic brand content, communicate with her followers, and create lasting relationships. If you have a blog, vlog, marketing team, or are just thinking, "What's the best way for me to get my message out there and build an online reputation?" Kate is for you!! Now, the Learning Curve segment at the end of this episode is going to be SUPER short, because Kate does such a fantastic job of digging in deep with her ideas and creating clear action items for you to take. So, I really don't have to do much. She makes my job so much easier, lol. So, let's get on with my talk with Kate Volman. You are going to gain so much valuable information and see pretty quickly why I adore her so. Enjoy!! Thanks so much for joining me on episode 120 where I feature one of my new best friends (seriously... I told her I was adopting her as my new little sister), photographer Nikyta Haynes!! Her brand is Kyta Beez and her tag line is "Definitely Different" and I can personally testify that this girl STANDS OUT!! I got to meet her at an art exhibit by long-time friend of the show, Jafleu. She was just walking around doing her thing and taking pictures. I had brought my son, Jordon, along with me and surprised him by bringing his camera, so he could take pictures, too. (He wants to be a photographer when he grows up, after all.) We ran into Nikyta while wandering the various photography studies and Jordon and I were both instantly taken by her. She was so kind to him, he loved her "cool" camera, as he put it, and they even took photos together in one of the professional studios. You simply don't meet kind people like that everyday. And, when she gave me a glimpse into her story, I just HAD to have her on the show! And, she was so nice in joining me at my Entrepreneur Influencers Brunch hosted by Style Chambers last weekend. She took some great photos of the event, which you can browse through here. Now, sit back and relax and listen to this inspiring episode with Nikyta and check out her work at Kytabeez.com! Hey there! Welcome to episode 119 of the Curve the Cube podcast. I can't believe it's already episode 119. Thank you so much for being a listener and coming along on this journey with me. I hope you are becoming more and more of a curvist yourself, too!! This episode features a girl I am sooo excited to introduce you to, in case you don't know her, yet. She's Yamilia Avendano, a.k.a. Yami, and she founded her uber successful video game press site, Twinfinite.net, about 6 years ago. We sat down right on the heels of her coming back from E3 and had SUCH a fun time! She may seem unassuming and even a bit shy. But, don't let her fool you. She is a force to be reckoned with, and there's simply no stopping her rise to the top! On this episode we talk about how she gets creative with her video series, whether turning your passion into a career makes it feel like a job, feeling you need to do it all (but, for everyone else), and of COURSE, some of her E3 reviews. In a bit of a formatting toss-up (I warned you I would be playing a bit with the show's format for a few episodes here and there), I will be diving deep into the whole passion-feeling-like-a-job issue in a mini-solocast before then taking the topic to The Learning Curve. AND, you will be treated to a quick sneak appearance by one of my new favorite people, Glenn the Geek of the Horse Radio Network! So, just a couple of quick reminders: Please check out all the shows on the Flint Stone Media Podcast Network by going to FSMPodcastNetwork.com. And, join the conversation on Facebook the the Dreamers Become Doers group. Head to DreamersBecomeDoers.com for all the info! Thank you for joining me on this 118th episode! It's a solocast about becoming an influencer in your industry, which is very timely for me, as it seems to be starting to happen to me right NOW. I am fresh off of my podcasting presentation to the Mystery Writers of America, Florida Chapter, and it could not have been a more fun event. And, even more, the aftermath has been fantastic and really driven into me the power of being seen as an influencer in your industry. So, let's dive into the benefits and how-to of becoming an influencer and spark some creative ideas of how you can become an influencer yourself. I switch up the format on this episode, leading with my usual tasty nuggets in The Learning Curve. Then, I treat you to my MWA presentation audio, which is chock-full of tips on how to get booked on podcasts (a GREAT way to gain exposure and be seen as an influencer) and tons of information on how to start your own podcast (also a great way to become known). He is a true hustler, and on this episode we talk about when the switch flipped for him to break out on his own and what he did to break free. Then, I take the discussion to The Learning Curve on the flip side, of course. There's an added treat at the end of this episode; so, don't let it confuse you--haha. I'll be sharing a quick clip pulled from Hustle All Day, where I appear as a guest cohost to interview creator James Oliver, Jr. So, you'll hear us both again. Alright, you fearless curvist you... On this next solocast for episode #116 of the Curve the Cube podcast, I dive into the idea of building your personal network. It is not only advantageous, but essential (and, thereby, very important) to build yourself a personal network while navigating your passion pursuit. Who else is going to understand your struggles--those times you want to pull your hair out, give up, start questioning EVERYTHING, can't find your way through a seemingly insurmountable obstacle? We are a select tribe, people! And, no one understands our level of crazy (um, I mean "commitment") like another who's in the game right along with us. So, on this podcast, I talk about the many benefits to be gleamed from forming your network. Then, at the end, I take the "how-to" of creating your own inner circle to The Learning Curve with 3 Ways to Find Your Tribe! Enjoy!! Music Beds courtesy of DJ John Hitta!!! Hi, guys!!! I'm so glad you guys are joining me for episode #115 of Curve the Cube where my guest is serial entrepreneur, Michael Hall of Digital Grassroots Innovation & Technology (D.G.I.T.) and Medium Four. Michael and I get into a LOT on this podcast: mental blocks, diversity, finding your target audience, and the concept of dying empty. He really gave me such good stuff to work with. But, I decided to take two things to The Learning Curve at the end of the episode: Getting around that mental roadblock that naturally happens when you are super excited about a great idea, but then realize you're not the first to market. And, What Michael says in this conversation about dying empty hit me so hard, I just HAD to talk more about that, too. There's tons to digest, guys; so, I tried keep my own updates in this intro as short as possible. But, yeah... I have a lot going on, too! SO... with all that said, sit back and relax with this, the 115th episode of the Curve the Cube podcast with Michael Hall. Enjoy!! Music Beds courtesy of DJ John Hitta!!! Today's Curve the Cube solocast episode is all about being relentless!! My dad calls it my "bulldog" effect, and I'm going to break down what it means, the dos and don'ts of being relentless, why you shouldn't be afraid to hear "no" (and what to do when you DO hear it), AND my biggest tip for not giving up (which actually can help in any number of life situations, as a matter of fact). I know the practice of being relentless doesn't come easy for everybody. So the first step is to decide everyday that you will move forward. Give yourself a pat on the back... you've already accomplished your minimal daily productivity by listening to this one episode! Now, when you're done, go out and be relentless in your pursuit of your dreams! Thanks so much for listening. Remember to find your passion and do your thing with the Curve the Cube podcast!! This super-charged, energy-filled, and insightful Curve the Cube podcast episode is brought to you by the creative electricity flowing unabated through Michael 'Spaz' McGoorty's veins. This is a man who has, through music, acting, and comedy, managed to channel his creative energy into some highly impressive projects. He becomes Robert Plant as he leads The Pure Zeppelin Experience, has starred in Jesus Christ Superstar, and is half of the comedy company duo, Casey 'N' Spaz Comedy with nephew, Casey Peruski. This latest Curve the Cube Podcast episode is all about the conundrum of working for free. Yikes!! When you are working hard toward your dreams and goals, it can be very tempting to take an opportunity that doesn't pay you because there are other potential benefits involved. But, beware--there are leeches out there you have to watch out for and it's easy to be taken advantage of. Some friends of mine help me examine these dilemmas, and I of COURSE take it to The Learning Curve at the end. I will also share with you my own exciting stockpile of news and a clip of me on my mentor, Glenn's, show, Horses in the Morning. It's an episode full of fun and insightful takeaways. So, keep in mind all the dangers that lurk when you decide to do any work for free and make sure you don't fall into common traps. Thanks so much for listening. Welcome to episode #111 of the Curve the Cube podcast, where I will continue to take you with me on my own journey of curving the cube and also catch up with musician Charles Milling--solo artist and Live Hymnal band leader, previously featured on episode #13. He is a visionary, marrying new sounds with the traditional church, and he and I talk a bunch about Live Hymnal's latest album, Procession while also diving into some totally curvist-aimed topics, like: 1) Dealing with industry changes you never saw coming, 2) The challenge of getting people to say, "I must have that!" about YOUR unique thing, and 3) As a creative, knowing when it's ok to end the pursuit of project perfection. Then I take those topics to a new segment I'm calling The Learning Curve, where I share specific actionable items, tips, tricks, and pieces of advice for you to put into play as you curve your own cube. So, buckle up for a pretty packed episode, guys!! It was my first foray into the world of editing with my new software, Hindenburg, and I was super nervous about it!! Thanks so much for listening. Curvists! As I aim to inspire you to pursue your own dreams, I thank you for coming with me on this episode through a milestone in my own journey: my first podcasting convention, Podfest 2017!! Podfest was three equally exhilarating and exhausting days of being completely immersed in my own slice of heaven. I got to mingle with my peers, meet my idols, and experience some very significant, life-altering moments. Through this episode, you will get to meet many of the people who made my experience so special as they share with my why podcasting is their passion and where they are on that journey. Along the way, we will pull out some great nuggets of both inspiration and actionable items to motivate and help YOU on your journey! And, regarding the future of this show, I have made a promise to a podcasting legend that affects you all. I have committed to changing the show's release schedule to the 1st and 15th of every month. Yes, this means fewer episodes; but, it will also mean BETTER episodes. So, this is officially the first release in that new schedule. (I told you I would keep my promise, Glenn!!) Hey guys! In order to make this podcast an honest resource, it is important for me to share how I'm curving my own cube, too. Well, a must-make-happen item for me for 2017 was to attend at least one podcasting conference this year. It was a BIG, lofty, pie-in-the sky goal that I was determined to make happen, and thanks to Chris Krimitsos and the generous team at Podfest, I'm getting to do just that!! They have sponsored my ticket for podfest, and I am gearing up... So, take a listen! It's important, when you are a dreamer wanting to become a doer, not only to take advantage of every opportunity that comes your way, but to do whatever it takes to make the opportunities happen in the first place. I recorded this podcast with Jason Parsley, Executive Editor of the South Florida Gay News about a month ago, guys, and I'm so excited to finally bring you this episode! We first met on episode #102 when Jason lent his voice to the post-election protest in downtown West Palm Beach. I loved his passion for his cause and just HAD to have a guested episode with him! As the Executive Editor of the South Florida Gay News, Jason lends his journalism talents to depicting gay life down here in south Florida. He strives to strike a balance between being gay community-focused, while also presenting people in a broader sense to remind us all that sexual orientation and the issues that go along with that aren't the only ways to define people. With a wide reach of TOPICS ranging from entertainment to politics (and all the blurry lines in between), there are a host of interests in the South Florida Gay News sure to keep you reading and in the know!! Guys!! I was invited to present recently at a Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at Florida Atlantic University's Career Day, and it was wonderful. One of my career goals is public speaking, and this was my first dive into it. I was such impressive company--other presenters including an environmentalist, event planner, comic book illustrator, creator of an online social community for the disabled, and a police officer. So, THANK YOU to Mr. Darius Murray, CARD's Clinical Mentoring Associate, for having me. It was such an epic honor!! But, I only got to talk for about 10 minutes (and, you guys know I can TALK!). Since I really had to rush through my story and its lessons, I decided to flesh out a whole solocast for you. On this episode, I share how and why I changed my career, the journey I took to get to where I am (so far), and some advice on how to do the same yourself. (Hint: It involves a LOT of hard work!) I have included my actual Career Day Powerpoint presentation as a bonus download, in case you want to check that out as well. And, there are so many opportunities to positively and powerfully /impact youth with autism. Reach out to Darius by phone at 561-213-6936 or by email at dmurra23@fau.edu. Or, head to Autism.FAU.edu. I mean, holy schnikes!! You've been warned, curvists... This episode is pretty raw. But, we ended up talking, yes... about that, but also about SO MUCH MORE!! From the HIV/AIDS crisis in the 80s through the evolution of activism into modern times, Rolando has seen up close and personal a history in this country that hasn't always been pretty, but has brought out a spirit of activism that has always been at the core beautiful. Curvists and new listeners, the foundation of a pursuit of dreams for many is the American Dream itself, and there is really no dream more emblematic or inspiring around the world than that beacon America has been as a place where hope meets hard work. But, we find ourselves at a time in our American history where masses of people feel like that American Dream is at grave risk for them. And, this election (and, for many, Donald Trump himself, is a driving force of either a promise newly lost or a promise newly regained. So, as I heard of an anti-Trump protest on Veterans Day right here in West Palm Beach (and, a bubbling counter-protest), I decided to head down there and see what those dreams are for people. There is a clear passion involved in both protesting and counter-protesting, and I wanted to get to the root of some of this passion. And, I was as struck by the diversity of answers as I was by the possible areas of common ground that seemed to surface. So, my hope with this episode is to allay fears, but inspire action; to propose areas of commonality, so we can focus on continuing to progress as a unified, strong country and world leader; and to help people understand one another's struggles better. We really need to stop living only in our individual pockets. As diverse of a country as we have, we need to step out and listen to one another more. And, I hope we can all be more active toward that American dream that unites us all. Mentioned in this episode: #56 – FAITH – Sharif Elhosseiny & Rev. Established Curvists and new listeners alike: your host and producer shares a message of the importance of doing what you dream on this episode of Curve the Cube! People get taken off their course in life for all sorts of reasons. But, whether as a hobby, a part-time gig, or as a full-time thing, doing what you love is simply vital to one's spirit, and we can't allow ourselves to forget that. I mean, the alternative is to live every day in black-and-white, instead of the vibrant color that could await you. And, since we all only get one walk through this life on Earth, we shouldn't waste it, right? In this podcast, I discuss not only the importance of feeding your soul with what you love, but to do so smartly and with measured risk, if, like me and some other curvists, your goal is to make a living off of your dream and your dream alone. And, I share what pursuing my own dream has meant in my life: the opportunities I've had come my way, the people I have met, and the conversations with guests that have really touched my life. None of that would have happened had I never stepped out and pursued my dream. The road hasn't always been easy, and I share some of the particular difficulties and challenges I have faced. Pursuing your dream, quite simply, is really, really hard. But, at the end of the day, when you are doing what you love, every bead of sweat and lost hour of sleep is completely worth it!! "When you're not practicing those things that are really authentic to you and you're just giving all of your time to these other things that are pulling you off of your path and the person that's aching to be you, then you have to fill the void with a lot of junk food for the soul." ~ Tami Stronach from episode #100 and star of The Neverending Story This episode of Curve the Cube is sponsored by Big Brain 2: No Hard Feelings tattoo shop! If you're anywhere NEAR as big of a fan as I am of my FAVORITE movie of all time, The Neverending Story, then you will LOVE hearing me chat with Tami Stronach. (I mean, it's not every day you get to talk to a childlike empress!) And, it’s not every day you get to talk to a star you’ve admired for 30+ years on your 100th episode. I was absolutely beside myself. And, what a wonderful conversation we had! Tami is as equally driven as I am to spread the message of the importance of doing what you dream. In this podcast, we explore how the film for each of us (her as a participant and me as a spectator) has influenced our lives and encouraged us to do just that. She was absolutely delightful and just a pure joy to talk to. This podcast came about following an exchange she and I had on Twitter after I took my son to a special screening of The Neverending Story. It was a magical experience for me to see it on the big screen for the first time, to be able to pass on the hope of the film to my son, and to then have that experience connect me with Tami. It was so amazing, and I hope it’s the first of many great conversations with her!! Tami has since spent her life in the love of dance with her studio and production company, Tami Stronach Dance, in which she puts together very expressive and beautiful performances. She and her family have also started the Paper Canoe Company, in which they focus on media for young children. They have their first album coming out soon; so, be sure to look out or that!! Hi, Curvists! I really need to update you all on what's going on! There was no episode last week. (Eek!!) Well, there was a reason for that named Hurricane Matthew. So, I wanted to share with you all what is going on and what is coming up, including a new direction I am taking the podcast in. So, I'm excited to get into it!! I am working to reschedule with Jared Easely, founder of the Podcast Movement annual conferences and something called the Podcast Cruise, which I have no idea what it is, but it sounds amazing, and I can't wait to talk to him. I know a lot of you were particularly excited for that episode. We were supposed to record just before his podcast MeetUp of the Podcast South Florida a couple of Saturdays ago on the 8th. But, the venue had to cancel the event, due to the hurricane. So, that of course meant my podcast with him that was supposed to happen right beforehand has to now be rescheduled. So, we are working that out. Local small biz and digital marketing powerhouse, Kate Volman was to be on as well. She's a content creator and web show host who is on her way to taking over south Florida. She helps businesses share their stories as part of their marketing efforts, is super smart, and a lot of fun. But, we are having to reschedule, again because of things being just thrown off course, lol. But, both of those episodes are still coming up! So, because of recent events, I wanted to share with you a lesson I have learned about keeping my priorities in check. I am a big-time planner. Between my marketing company and clients and growing that, this podcast, my Podcast Network and sister shows, and the Palm Beach Podcasters, my to do list is gargantuan. So, I HAVE to be a big-time planner and schedule as much as possible weeks in advance. For the most part, this is a one-woman show. So, if I don't do it, it doesn't get done. I'm currently considering ways of reducing that workload, but that's for a whole other conversation. AND, I'm (most importantly, and as many of you know) also a single mom to a beautiful 4&1/2 year-old little boy, Jordon--my angel and whole heart. So, as you can imagine, he comes first, everything else comes second, friends and family get peppered throughout as much as I can, and then my needs usually come last. My plate is simply crazy-full! I had already put on pause pretty much all of my duties as the social media person behind the KVJ Show's fan accounts, KVJNation, because something had to give. I mean, that should tell you right there the fullness of my plate right now, if I've temporarily set aside something that I love that much. So, my cup already runneth over, and my body was suffering the consequences. Lack of sleep and healthier eating coupled with more stressors than I could speak of (all good things, but come on, let's get real, still stressful, right?), September turned into the Month of the Migraine, with my having more days WITH these debilitating headaches than not. In fact, at one point, I was in the fetal position for about a day and a half. It was awful. With everything suddenly being thrown off by the massive Hurricane Matthew having this area in its crosshairs, my schedule was thrown out the window, I had to scramble to get hurricane-ready because I had to make sure Jordon was well set, I had to set some clients up for the hurricane because, yes, hurricanes impact marketing efforts, too. So, everything was suddenly just completely nuts and unpredictable. After getting myself and my clients hurricane-ready, I still had so much more on my plate--even more than usual because of the total disruption that is a major hurricane. I had a choice to make, a fork in the road, so to speak. Have a complete panic-induced meltdown, or just accept it for the opportunity it was: the chance to relax. Sometimes in the hustle and bustle of the hustle itself, we get so caught in the momentum--especially when great things are happening, that we lose sight of the bigger picture. We pursue our dreams, ultimately, in the pursuit of happiness, right? Well, if my body is screaming at me that it needs rest, and that message is being delivered in the form of relentless migraines, mama is NOT happy. I looked around my room. With plywood covering the windows for the hurricane, it was like a cave--a perfect little recuperative nest free of light. So, once it was clear we had been spared by Matthew (thank GOD!!), I had Jordon spend a couple of days with his dad, so I could spend a couple of days under covers with an ice pack on my neck to knock out my migraine once and for all. I succumbed, and it was definitely the right decision. Not only did I reenergize, but it gave me a chance to step back and see the forest--not just the trees I was usually caught up in. I thought through how to move forward while making my rest more of a priority. So, I've taken some time to concentrate now on just finishing getting EHAH, a new podcast project off the ground. It's something some friends of mine and I have just recently launched where we talk about putting tech into our community and the community into our tech. But, getting it rolling has been a massive responsibility. And, being able to focus on finishing that rollout now while taking advantage of this gap in Curve the Cube, has taken a load of the pressure off! So, if you like tech talk, please had to EggHeadsAHP.com and subscribe to us in iTunes. In fact, the aforementioned Kate Volman is one of my Egg Head cohosts. So, that podcast can give you an intro into my upcoming Curve the Cube episode with her! I have also made a decision with CTC that I hope you will all find interesting and appealing. I have decided to spend more episodes doing exactly what I'm doing now--sharing my own Curve the Cube journey. Since this podcast started as being all about inspiring people to pursue their dreams by talking to other people who are doing just that and has sprouted a shunt to this parallel story of me curving my own cube, I decided to start doing just what I'm doing here: sharing more of my own journey to curving my own cube. In episode 93, my amazing compadres, Scotty Fusion and Jessica Prestige, helped by cohosting and asking me a bunch of questions from themselves and some listeners. And, I think I caught a bug for it in that episode and really just want more personal interaction and conversation with you guys, my fellow Curvists, about what it is to pursue your dreams--stuff my guests have taught me about that pursuit and what I've been learning here as I navigate my own. In fact, on episode 4 of EHAH, which comes out October 25th, I talk a little bit about a recent decision I made on whether or not to archive my early episodes of Curve the Cube and why or why not. So, that was an interesting thought process I shared there. So, this slightly evolved structure will help me stress less about my guest scheduling and concentrate more on bringing better quality in overall content and audio. So, by adding in interviews with myself, it should help me be able to slow down and give better focus on post-production. But, have no fear! I am continuing to bring you great traditional CTC content, and once episodes start back up in the next week or two, I'll be back to posting episodes every week! In addition to the rescheduled guests, I also have other super inspiring people lined up to motivate you to find your passion and do your thing, too! Jennifer McGrath She is the Director of Hearing the Ovarian Cancer Whisper, a local non-profit that raises money to help those fighting ovarian cancer who are experiencing financial difficulty. And, she has a unique story of her own for why she is passionate about helping others with ovarian cancer. Tami Stronach If you're anywhere NEAR as big of a fan as I am of my FAVORITE movie of all time, The Neverending Story, then you will LOVE hearing me chat with Tami. I mean, it's not everyday you get to talk to a childlike empress! Unnamed!! And, to add one more to the list, I am waiting on confirmation back from a very, let's just say, special kind of matchmaker. I can't say her name, yet, because she is waiting for approval back from her manager. But, she thinks it's likely; so, keep your fingers crossed!! (Wow, I just realized this is a list full of ladies. Go, girl power!!) I am also in very early talks to get a sitdown with aerial reporter, Johann Hoffend of WPTV's Chopper 5, and Jerry Soma, who puts on the Feast of Little Italy every year, no small task!! So, like I said, loads of great stuff coming, guys. So, no worries, friends!! In the meantime, shuffle back through the old episodes. I know some of you have missed some great guests! All of the other Egg Heads (Eddy Garcia, Aaron Wormus, and Joe Russo, have all been featured previously on Curve the Cube. I've had conversations with former pro-wrestler Glenn Ruth aka Thrasher of the Headbangers, actors from the Blacklist and Bloodline, the president of Nerdist Industries, hosts of the KVJ Show, Representative Lois Frankle,... I mean, just some really, really fascinating people! I've had lots of other greatly inspirational Curvists on, too--from musicians to artists, entrepreneurs to writers, and so much more in between!! And, I've had really meaningful conversations with people like my friend, Drew, who shared his very personal story of gender reassignment, and my friend, Sharif, who shared insights into his Islamic faith. And, of course, I CAN'T forget my Pod Squad with regular co-hosts, Jay Cintron and Scotty Fusion. We talk about all sorts of funny stuff, and you can find those episodes organized for you right on CTCPodSquad.com. So, all in all, there is a great big backlog of nearly 100 episodes for you to listen back to as I get some great new content and these fantastic new guests all lined up. Remember to keep pursuing your own dreams. Do not give up or get discouraged. Dig in, work hard, but, don't miss the forest for the trees. Find Your Passion... Do Your Thing!! Multiple award-winning street artist Jennifer Chaparro creates interactive 3D art on a spans of flat pavement, concrete, … you name it! And, her work, though physically temporary, will never leave the audience’s memory. Whether pretending to sit in a kayak about to go over a waterfall, or (as I did) practicing a balancing act on a giant crayon, I can personally testify that enjoying her interactive art is simply a joy that sticks with you. On this podcast, Jennifer explains the genius behind how she does it. Very cool!! Jen is a fun and extremely business-savvy woman, and in this episode tells her story of how she fell out of the corporate office and into the life of 3D street art—at first accidentally; then with all the drive and gusto of a determined business owner. Former NWA World Tag Team Champion and WWF World Tag Team Champion, Glenn “Thrasher” Ruth of the Headbangers, sat down with me and Jay “Captain KVJ” Cintron to talk about his time in the ring and how he’s working to build up the local pro-wrestling scene here in south Florida! I couldn’t have asked for a better person to spend a slice of my birthday podcasting with than the inspiring spiritual life coach and yoga instructor, Jennifer Martin. We met up following her yoga class at the Hilton West Palm Beach where she teaches on Saturdays, and had this very uplifting conversation. Not only is she super-charged for spreading her life’s message through yoga and public speaking, but she is also a beautiful writer who regularly shares her inspirational and motivational musings on Instragram. Hers is definitely an account you want to follow!!), but also pens articles with messages like this: “The best decision I’ve ever made was leaving my corporate job and opening my first yoga studio. I’ve made sacrifices, but I get intense joy from sharing my passion. I’m so grateful for all that I have, I aspire to make an even bigger impact. Be relentless in your life’s pursuit. It's a disservice to the world not to share your gifts.” Clearly, with a message like that being so aligned with the purpose of this podcast, it was pure kismet that Jennifer and I were able to both geek out with and energize one another about the joy that is faith and following your dream! A year ago today, I left a job for a dream. Having built a successful career as a data analyst, I was willing to walk away from a sure thing for one reason: I found my true passion in life was elsewhere. So, after spending a couple of years laying down a foundation, I was able to take a bit of a bolder step towards a career reset, and life refresh. Both for the time before a year ago and since then, my guests on Curve the Cube have been a constant source of excitement, inspiration, and motivation to know (unequivocally!) that I wanted that same passion and zest in life, and I was willing to work my butt off for it. It hasn't been easy, but it has been well worth it. As this podcast comes out today, I'm not sitting home burnt out from spending a week with the weight of drudgery. Rather, I'm exhilarated, having been immersed in the world of digital marketing all week, and I am tackling the world of podcasting with full gusto. This morning, I am recording my special birthday podcast, where I've had people turn the tables and ask me questions. This afternoon, I will be hosting the first meeting of the Egg Heads After Hours podcast, a new show I am cohosting with other tech movers-and-shakers in our community: Aaron Wormus (a Guy on Clematis), Kate Volman, and Eddy Garcia of Vivid Arts. Then, I'll be headed home to work on a client's video projects and some more podcast stuff--including planning the Palm Beach Podcasters relaunch MeetUp event! Sound exhausting? Nope... Best. Day. Ever. I will certainly feel more fulfilled laying my head on my pillow tonight than I did this same night last year. Sounds all well-worth it to me. And, pursuing YOUR passion can be just as worth it to you! Want to be a musician? Artist? Entrepreneur? Community Organizer? Whatever it is... find it and do it! That is the point of my mission: to encourage you to Find your Passion... Do your Thing!! Claire Bronson is an actress who keeps popping up in my favorite shows, such as Resurrection (RIP), The Walking Dead, and Bloodline (which is filmed right in our own backyard of the Florida Keys), and I was so excited to talk to her for this episode!! A long-time performer, Claire grew up with a strong inner pull toward acting, and she has followed it all the way to success. We talk about pursuing acting and landing roles, being on these amazing sets and working with such wonderful casts, and what she sees for her future. As the cofounder of her own acting studio, Drama Inc. in Atlanta, GA, Claire is equally focused on guiding others in what can be a very tricky and difficult field. In this conversation, she does not hold back in giving tips for others wanting to pursue their dreams—both specifically in acting and in whatever else one is passionate about. You’ll love her!! As we stood by the capybara exhibit (where I had to refrain from freaking out from pure excitement), these ladies shared their infectious enthusiasm for working with these wonderful animals. They conveyed the Zoo’s message and mission of conservation and education and how they see these animals in their care as ambassadors for their brethren in the wild. The sound of the Zoo’s animals all around us was just a symphony of confirmation of the beauty of our planet’s beautiful creatures. How much Amy and Amanda truly love and care for the animals is completely obvious. They have a true passion for what they do, and it was a privilege to have them on! Special thanks to Naki Carter (ncarter@palmbeachzoo.org), the Zoo’s award-winning Public Relations Manager who is absolutely amazing in setting this podcast up. She and her team have really been coming up with innovative ways to promote the park and its message, including tons of real-time pics and videos on their social media feeds, special events, animal paintings, and more!! Rewind to episode #84—a bonus episode all about the Zoo’s use of Pokémon Go to “lure” trainers to their park on Fridays to “Catch ‘em all” at their Safari Nights. It’s pretty fun and ingenious!! This episode is dedicated to the memory of Stacey Konwiser and in honor of all the zookeepers and other zoo staff (such as Amanda and Amy) who dedicate their lives to being a voice for the care and conservation of our planet’s beautiful creatures. I was absolutely delighted to see my old high school friend come back to the south Florida theater scene last March. David Abeles came through the Kravis Center on his Broadway tour of Matilda the Musical, playing the dominant and imposing role of Miss Trunchbull. I took my son to go see my friend do what I know he does best, and we were both so delighted by Dave’s performance and the entire cast and production! What a treat!! Dave and I went to high school together at Pine Crest School in Ft. Lauderdale, and I always knew he would grow up to give his talents as a gift to the world. He was one of those people who just had that “it” factor; but, what makes him so special is that he is truly humble. On this podcast, he shares the story of his journey from Broward County to London to New York, and what life is like as an actor on the move!! Follow Dave on Twitter as @iAmDavidAbeles! In this episode, I catch up with young and super-talented DJ & music composer, Alex Ariete! You may remember Alex as one of my very first CTC Kid from episode 11—back when he was known by his original stage name, DJ Pop Drop. Each time I see Alex out and about, it’s incredible how much he’s grown—physically and musically. Since we last sat down, Alex has continued to develop his skills as a musician—creating new original tracks, playing a bunch of gigs, traveling for different events and things, meeting amazing EDM mentors, and collaborating with different artists. On top of that, Alex continues to excel at his dance, competing regularly and doing very well! He’s simply a powerhouse of young, ambitious, and promising talent. On the podcast, we talk about how he’s grown musically and artistically and how important his parents’ support continues to be. Catch Alex on Palm Beach FM every other Tuesday night where he is not only a resident DJ, but is also starting to conduct his own industry interviews. I’m so excited to see where this kid goes! Founder of Poetry In Motion Productions: (PIMP!), Jessica, now known as “Empress Prestige,” knows a thing or two about doing her own thing. She began what started as an unformed idea mass four years ago and worked it into what is now a thriving, repeat project of her own unique concept: ChoreoPoems. These are forms of dramatic expression that combine poetry, dance, music and song. She conceptualizes the overall story arc, directs the talent, and produces the overall program; but, what makes her plays so unique is that she leaves creative license for each role and its expression to the individual player. Essentially, the cast writes much of the content and she threads it together into a cohesive, intelligent expression of her story. Their next project is the 4th installment of Pleasant City Thee ChoreoPoem to be shown soon at The Palm Beach Improv and The Mozart Theatre. Also, Empress is working to bring this piece into the forum of a film called Thee Movie. So exciting!! Her storytelling has community and cultural purpose for the enjoyment and education of every generation. Her diligence, humor, and passion are a true inspiration! Welcome to a BONUS episode of the Curve the Cube Podcast. It is just a bonus, but still very worthy of a number. So, it’s #84! It’s been a while since I’ve covered an event, and this was very impromptu, but still very fun. (To hear the last event I covered, you will have to rewind to episode #60 where I covered an art gallery opening and then pretty far back to episode #16 with the Shock Pop Comic Con.) In THIS episode, I get to geek out about the phenomenon of Pokémon Go! There is one local spot that is taking FULL advantage: The Palm Beach Zoo! They laid down some lures and transformed their park full of Pokéstops into a Pokémon trainer’s dream. Sending out a map ahead of time, the zoo primed the local masses to get their teams together and have a #PokemonGo invasion… and it worked!! A newbie trainer myself, I was SO JAZZED to get out there and go hunting for Pokémon. So, I had my map ready and spent a fun evening capturing Exeggcutes, Pinsirs, Poliwags, and TONS more. The fountain area was particularly littered. It was awesome!! I stopped along the way and talked to a couple of groups of fellow trainers who were kind enough to spare a few minutes for my questions. (Thanks, guys!) We talked about the sudden craze that is Pokémon Go, getting into teams, strategy, and how much the special event drew them to be at the zoo that night. It was awesome! There was live music, a Food Truck Invasion (shout out to Hoffman’s Chocolates!), and of course the wonderful and real-life Pokémon—the animals themselves! They absolutely remained the stars of the show!! I’m having a full podcast with some peeps from the Zoo in a couple of weeks. It’s slated to be episode #88 and released on August 8th; but, keep in touch over social media for updates—mostly on Twitter. But, aslo keep an eye out while playing the game yourselves! Remember to keep looking up and watching out for “No Trespassing” signs, sketchy folk, cliffs, and mall fountains. It’s just a game, people!! This is Pokémon Go at the Palm Beach Zoo! Enjoy!! Since this quick, impromptu episode has no sponsor, I’ll ask you to please consider supporting the show yourself. It’s my complete pleasure to continue to bring you a show for free, and I thank my sponsors for covering most of my costs. But, there is still room for more help—and, that is where you can come in. Help me continue to keep bringing you conversations with south Florida’s most inspiring, passionate, and talented people. Any amount helps. Visit https://www.patreon.com/CurveTheCube. I’ve been an admirer of Estelle DeShocka’s photography for quite some time—watching her in action at various events and then seeing the amazing results online. She is quick on her feet and truly takes such great shots! I’m so glad that on this podcast, I got to finally talk to her more in depth about all the amazing photos she captures at other photo shoots and I then see her share through her various social media outlets. (My favorite was definitely the zombie wedding!) Estelle and I get into the types of photo shoots she likes best, where she gets her great theme ideas, how she secures her models and additional vendors and more. She even gives me insight into a very valuable insides source for some of her most amazing props and locations. She has been carrying around a camera since the time of her earliest memories. With a mom in graphic design to learn from and an unending devotion to her craft to develop her skills, Estelle is sure to continue to take her photography and career to the next level! Raised amongst generations of musicians, Myles “The Trufe” Robinson was destined to find the rhythm of his own musical beat. He uses his talent to dig into often difficult issues with a message that is always raw and real. Speaking to his most inner and honest emotions, his flows are smooth and captivating. However, it is his work ethic that has had him rising about the rest. There are no participation trophies handed out in the music industry, and Myles has put in every ounce of the hard work it takes to really make it and be taken seriously. On this podcast, Myles talks about the importance of smart, chemistry-driven collaboration and the meaning of a hard day’s work. A young dad with more than one job, Myles is more determined than the average dreamer, and his hard work is paying off!
