Alissa was diagnosed with Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer in January 2021 and despite the doctor's belief that she would never "get better", she was announced in " full remission" via Pet scan in June 2021. Three banks, three sets of earnings — but only one clear standout. DBS defied expectations with stronger Q2 profits, while UOB and OCBC faced headwinds. Hosted by Michelle Martin, this episode with Tim Phillips, Founder of TimTalksMoney, unpacks what drove each bank’s performance, from shifting interest income to tariff impacts. We explore how leadership changes could redefine strategic priorities for the next decade. Plus, we switch gears to dissect position sizing and country diversification through ETFs, and how investors can balance concentration with broad exposure. The conversation closes with when to let winners run, when to take profits, and how to ensure your portfolio is truly diversified. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

When Rebecca was 27 years old, her mom was diagnosed with glioblastoma. It turned her life upside down. And it wasn't until 15 years and 4 kids later that it righted itself. She herself was diagnosed with glioblastoma, given the same bleak prognosis as her mother of 12-15 months and limited treatment options. Rebecca's entire adult life had been ruled by anxiety but something happened during her surgery that changed her perspective. She felt an overwhelming sense of peace and deep knowing that she was on the path she was meant to take. This experience had a huge impact. Rebecca bravely tried a new treatment in Germany, threw away her chemo and used food, fitness and mindset to save her life. Since then, Rebecca has tried to raise her children with the empowering message that you can control your own health by making good choices. A year after starting a business that took off like wildfire, Wally noticed her health began to suffer. Her hair started falling out in clumps, she was sleeping a lot, had a sore neck, and just couldn't get up in the morning. She saw several doctors who all agreed it was a cyst. But In August of 2018, when she began to have problems swallowing and breathing, she had a biopsy. The results showed that it was squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. Wally was never one to take anyone's word without proof and researching things herself. When given the very limited treatment options, that didn't sit well with her. She had an inner knowing that she created the dis-ease and knew she could fix it. Following her intuition, Wally told her doctors that she would cure herself. Today, Wally has been cancer free for over 6 years. She is passionate about health and helping people become aware of the power of healing with mindset, along with healthy lifestyle changes. Most importantly, Wally prioritizes laughing her way through the life she once never expected to have. Dr. Neja Zupan is a trailblazer in holistic health and personal empowerment, whose journey of overcoming aggressive hormone-dependent ductal breast cancer has become a source of inspiration worldwide. Diagnosed in 2013 with a grim prognosis and only a 5% chance of survival without medical intervention, she chose an unconventional path—rejecting chemotherapy, radiation, and hormonal therapy. Instead, she embraced natural healing methods, mindset transformation, and inner resilience, emerging not just as a survivor but a thriving advocate for holistic health. All her female ancestors passed away from cancer. She is the first to survive—and also the first to reject allopathic medicine. She was BRCA gene positive, with two cancer centers and one lesion. Thank you so much for tuning into By Their Side, my friends! Joining me today is Cordelia Cranshaw! Cordelia is a coach, therapist, storyteller, and the founder of From Survivor to Thriver, an organization that is committed to empowering youth in foster care. Cordelia's journey is truly nothing short of inspiring. She grew up in the foster care system and experienced generational trauma, but she overcame personal struggles and is now a beacon of strength for others facing similar challenges. Listen in as Cordelia and I discuss her powerful transition from a foster youth to a social worker, where her experiences gave her the ability to connect with and help others in the system. Through her work, Cordelia has worked so hard to help ensure that children in care not only receive the support that they need but also understand the system. Cordelia reflects on how her own journey led her to compete in and win a pageant, representing D.C. at Miss USA 2019, an achievement which became a defining moment in her life and proved to her that with the right support and a boost in self-confidence, even the most difficult pasts can lead to extraordinary futures. We also discuss the importance of self-worth and how even the smallest gestures of support can make a world of difference in a child's life. Throughout our conversation, Cordelia shares with us what it's like to be a social worker with actual lived experience, and she touches upon why it's so incredibly important to build upon confidence and how trauma impacts both children and the adults around them. You'll hear about the work which she is doing to break cycles of trauma and how, via her advocacy, she is giving foster youth the tools to thrive. If you are someone who feels passionate about making a real difference and/or you are someone who is seeking inspiration, then this episode is definitely for you! Highlights: [1:45] - Cordelia uses her personal experiences with foster care to help others as a social worker. [4:03] - Hear how Cordelia found empowerment in using her struggles to relate to and support others via social work. [6:54] - After entering foster care at only five years old, Cordelia's two foster families showed contrasting environments for her. [8:35] - As a child in foster care, Cordelia struggled with uncertainty, which inspired her Survivor to Thriver program. [11:10] - Hear how Survivor to Thriver teaches children about foster care and helps them understand their situation. [14:46] - Cordelia recognizes that unresolved traumas and lack of resources often influence parents' ability to effectively nurture. [17:50] - Hear how a supportive 7th-grade teacher helped Cordelia through a difficult time. [20:04] - Cordelia's journey from foster care to winning a beauty pageant may help demonstrate the power of support and confidence. [23:40] - Kids are very perceptive and intelligent, and negative comments from social workers can impact their perception. [24:52] - Hear how pageantry at 16 helped Cordelia build self-worth and confidence. [27:38] - For Cordelia, building upon confidence involved healthy habits, reflection, and surrounding herself with support. [30:24] - Cordelia travels in order to inspire foster youth, working toward challenging the myth that they can't overcome their situations. [32:09] - Learn how, as a social worker, Cordelia fought to keep children in their original school for stability. [35:26] - Cordelia encourages others to stay focused on their goals and to put forth real effort into shaping their future. After living with a metastatic breast cancer diagnosis for many years, in 2020 Belinda was in a wheelchair, on oxygen and not expected to live. Facing her own mortality helped Belinda to realize what is most valuable in life… the ability to find peace in the middle of turmoil, the discovery of joy in the smallest of things, to be held in love, to allow ourselves to receive support, to listen to our own wisdom, and to live with meaning and purpose. Belinda has been 'back in harmony' since 2021. With a background in medical science and post-graduate training as a P.S.H. therapist, Belinda drew from both science and spirituality as part of an integrated approach to recovering her wellbeing. Gently healing her own emotional memory was a significant part of Belinda's recovery. Alicia is a passionate life enthusiast whose perspective was profoundly transformed by her experience with Stage 3 Pancreatic cancer in April 2021. There were ups and downs every step of the way, there were many teachings and challenges. She had 7+ hour robotic Whipple surgery with a very challenging recovery followed by chemotherapy. During her treatment and recovery Alicia adopted all 10 of the Radical Remission Healing Factors. She believes that if cancer hadn't knocked on her door, she would have never changed. She never would have felt so much happiness by watching a sunset or a sunrise, sharing experiences in the physical with the people she loves, or the simple pleasures in life like a great cup of warm tea in her hands on a chilly morning. Today, Alicia cherishes her time with Picasso, her beloved horse, and enjoys invigorating walks and heartwarming conversations with her dog, Tequila-Pepper.
