The pressure campaigns of the Trump administration are beginning to bear fruit. Last week saw two major institutions acquiesce to the president's demands after actions taken by the White House threatened to undermine their budgets, workforce and, in some cases, ability to perform core business. The first was Paul Weiss, a major law firm that some accuse of trading pro bono work on behalf of Trump causes to maintain business ties to federal agencies. The second was Columbia University, which agreed to terms laid out by the government in exchange for the restoration of funding that had been slashed earlier this month. Hailed as victories by Donald Trump, Isaac Stanley-Becker, staff writer at The Atlantic, says these are just two of the highest profile examples of the ways the president has learned to wield fear as a political tool. While Donald Trump has always used scare tactics in his exercise of power, Stanley-Becker explains, what we are seeing now is different from his first term, marked by name-calling and social media bullying. “What I think is especially significant,” says Stanley-Becker, “is the use of government assets and government resources -- and denying those as a bargaining chip to bring these institutions to heel.”Stanley-Becker joins Diane to talk about his recent piece for The Atlantic, “The United States of Fear.”

This episode is one of the most raw and inspiring conversations I've ever had. I'm sitting down with Nick Klingensmith, a guy who's been through more than most of us can fathom. He is a four-time cancer survivor, Type 1 diabetic, recovering alcoholic, and obstacle course racing beast. But here's the kicker: it's not what he's been through that defines him; it's how he shows up every single day.Nick's story isn't just about survival; it's about thriving with purpose. We dive into what it really means to embrace vulnerability and confront ego head-on. You'll hear how Nick turned fear into fuel, tackled nearly 100 Spartan Races, and reframed his mindset to achieve what most people would call impossible. This isn't just another feel good story, it's a wake up call to stop letting fear hold you back. If you're tired of playing small, if you're ready to push past your limits, or if you just need that spark to reignite your purpose, this episode will hit you right where it counts.Let's go ALL IN.We Meet: Nick Klingensmith, Stride Motivation, LLCEpisode References:Sufferfest - https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/sufferfestNick's Book - https://www.stridemotivation.com/through-the-fireConnect:Connect with Rick: https://linktr.ee/mrrickjordanConnect with Nick: https://www.stridemotivation.com/ Subscribe & Review to ALL IN with Rick Jordan on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/c/RickJordanALLINAbout Nick: After being thrown out of a Las Vegas hotel in a drunken haze, jeopardizing his career and relationships, Nick Klingensmith had to make a change. It's ok to not have the answer. I believe one of the bravest things you can do is boldly embrace the unknown. Accept your fears. All fear is manageable. When fear is not managed and tuned into fuel and fire, it leads to doubt, hesitation, and procrastination. Fear will play tricks on you and make you think that you're not ready. Courageous people feel fear too; they just embrace it and use it to fuel them. Fear is contagious, but so is courage. Continue to move forward. A clear mission does not always have a clear path.
All That Glitters Isn't Gold, Ep #55On my drive to work, I mostly like to listen to podcasts but on occasion, I will listen to the radio. And frequently, I hear advertisements that claim that the economic sky may be falling and that one needs to invest in gold to protect themselves from the oncoming economic apocalypse. Well, the truth regarding investing in gold is a very different story and those that invest in gold may not have fools gold but I'll share why it could be very foolish to do so.In this episode...Using Fear to Sell [2:54]The lies salesmen tell you about Gold [4:10]Gold has grossly underperformed for over 40 years [6:26]Three Additional Reasons to NOT invest in Gold [10:25]Beware When Salesmen Use Fear to Sell [13:13]This communication regarding a precious metal is limited to a general and educational discussion as an asset class such as an economic or market commentary. This is not a promotion or solicitation for the direct purchase of a hard asset. Gold has enamored the mind of mankind for millennia. There are tales of Eldorado, the lost city of gold, or King Midas who had the golden touch, or even a leprechaun that hides a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. In fact, the very state I reside in, California, owes much of its initial rise to the tens of thousands of people that came out west in hopes of also striking it rich in the gold deposits after gold was first discovered in 1848 at Sutter's mill. Gold holds a certain allure to people and the commercials advertising investing in gold use this perception to peddle an investment theory regarding how gold supposedly has these incredible wealth-preserving capabilities. Now the advertisements I have heard always focus on fear and emotions with references to a teetering economy or references to the stability of the dollar owing to our massive national debt. That they use fear is no surprise as few things motivate people like fear. Greed is a close second, but fear is certainly the most powerful.Since 1980, Which Investment Has Generated the Best Returns? Stocks bonds or gold? From January 1980 through January 2023, the S&P 500, with dividends reinvested, returned an annualized 11.4% before inflation. Adjusted for inflation, it was 8.0%. As for bonds, the benchmark 10-year Treasury note delivered an annualized total return of 5.6% over the same period. Adjusted for inflation, it was 2.4%.What were Gold's returns since 1980? Gold had an annualized return of just 3.1% before inflation. After adjusting for inflation, the average annualized return was negative. 0.01%. Meaning you had less money than you started with 44 years later.Let me repeat that, since 1980, over 44 years, gold has had a negative return when adjusted for inflation. Again, how these people can get away with these lies on the radio and TV is beyond me. Now if that's not enough reason to convince you why you shouldn't invest in gold let me share 3 additional reasons why all that glitters isn't gold.First - Gold pays ZERO incomeGold doesn't produce income. It's only worth what someone will buy it from you in the future, whereas stocks pay income via dividends and bonds pay income via interest payments. I like Apple products. I own a Macbook Air, a watch, an iPhone, iPad and Airpods, and Apple TV. These are all products Apple makes. They sell these products to consumers for a profit. Some of those profits are shared with stockholders/part owners in the form of...

Did you know your brain's job is not to help you achieve goals or bring your vision board to life? It's actually designed to help you align with the thoughts you've repeated so many times, your brain sees them as truth. In this episode, we'll discuss what your brain does when it sees a repeated thought – like fear that you'll never be able to fully replace your income and find freedom – and how you can turn that around and use it as fuel. You don't have to let your brain dictate what you do. You can tap into that flight or fight energy and use it to figure out what needs to happen in your business. This is the dividing line between you and the 7 and 8-figure entrepreneurs. Fear tests your future. And it will always present itself when you're trying to grow! The biggest takeaways from today's episode are: Everyone feels fear, whether you're just getting started or you're already at 6, 7, or 8 figures! It's a neurochemical based reaction in our brains. 7-figure business owners expect fear, they know how to handle it, and how to let it fuel the important questions that move them forward. You can view fear as the sign that you're moving in the RIGHT direction. It's not a sign to slow down! In this episode, I'm getting really transparent about the big vision for my business and the way I know I need to approach the fear that comes with it. (And this isn't just how I do it! All the 7-figure entrepreneurs I know approach fear this way!) Remember, you don't have to believe everything your brain tells you. You have a big calling from God… don't let fear get in the way of that. Armor up with this knowledge and start playing big! You're invited to the best 7-figure uplevel you've ever experienced! Starting Sept. 18th, I'm sharing a Video Series + Live trainings for 5 days, helping you to think Think 7 Figures. I'm so excited to teach you brand new, brain science-backed 7 figure mindsets. If you don't have this, you'll continue to struggle with that fear response. This is only for serious and ambitious entrepreneurs who are ready to go all in. In ancient Greece the god of war was named Phobos. Phobos was the god of fear. In ancient Egypt the goddess of fear was named Sekhmet. It was believed that her fierce and fiery breath created the desert itself. Her wrath and destruction were legendary...

Using Fear of Judgment to Your Advantage Piggybacking onto their most recent episode, today Matt and Garrett discuss the fear of judgment in the real estate industry and how it can hold agents back from being customized in their business. They examine the psychological factors that contribute to this fear, including self-judgment, comparing oneself to others, and the fear of standing out, and highlight the importance of stepping outside of one's comfort zone and using fear as a catalyst for growth. As they note here today, fear of judgment is prevalent in the real estate industry, but it is important to embrace it and use it to drive success. Acknowledging that agents are often concerned about their reputation among their peers. Matt and Garrett offer practical advice on how to navigate situations where fear of judgment may arise, such as when a client changes their mind about a deal or when an agent must stand their ground against other realtors. They emphasize the importance of prioritizing clients' best interests and building a strong reputation for standing up for them. While it may be challenging to make difficult decisions and face judgment from others, our hosts argue that doing so can ultimately lead to new business opportunities and long-term success in the industry. In the end, fear of judgment should not hold agents back from achieving their goals, and instead, it should be embraced and used as a powerful motivator for growth and success. You can often be your worst enemy in achieving success. Stay tuned for great tips on using your fear to achieve the “once imagined” impossible.” The post Episode 133—Using Fear to Achieve the Impossible appeared first on Endless Brain Energy.
Are you using your fear as a security blanket? And if not “fear”, can you substitute a feeling that you struggle against but if you really stop to think about it, you might be the one grasping onto it?I had a crazy revelation during a visioning NLP process. For so long I have felt shackled to fear- as if it was an anchor holding me down against my will. But through this exercise I realized that I have been holding onto fear for dear life. Keeping it as close as possible because letting go of it felt like letting go of my identity and the most important relationships in my life.I realized that for me, fear is love.Fear means love. Fear is “doing your due diligence”. It means you care enough to think 147 steps ahead of where you are to consider and anticipate any harm that might occur and be proactive in the way of steering the ship to avoid it. To protect my loved ones and myself. What I truly did not realize until 2 nights ago is that subconsciously, it felt like letting go of fear was betrayal to those I love most. Ouch. It hurt to see this. And you know what pisses me off?How fucking obvious it all is to me now. But more than being pissed at missing something that now feels obvious and somehow instantly turned something from a scary ambiguous mount everest into a rolling hill on the countryside- I feel relief. excitement. empathy & compassion. My whole life of this dynamic- my relationship with this word/feeling/state.Demystified. Dismantled. Decoded.By sitting down, getting still, and closing my eyes to see.During this particular moment I had a guide walking me through this visualization NLP process, but I have had other truly powerful experiences that helped bring so much clarity to me. What was the common thread?Me.Sitting still. Closing my eyes. And becoming present to a vision I always had/have/will have.Listen to this week's episode to hear more about this and some questions to ask yourself if this resonates with you.notes-sign up for my upcoming free workshop here- The Help Me See Visioning WorkshopDo you identify as an intentional photographic artist?
