In 2020 we got a double dose of Muirfield Village in Ohio with the Memorial and the Workday Charity Open (everyone's favorite last minute sponsor). In 2021 we're back with fans and a loaded field after a ho-hum field at Charles Schwab last week. We should be in for a really tough track since Jack has given the already difficult course some renovations from last year's tournament. Let's walk them in again this week!

Denny's Instagram: www.instagram.com/mccarthy_denny/?hl=en Denny's Twitter: twitter.com/_dennymccarthy?lang=en Hey everyone I am Cory Siegfried and this is my interview series - The Turn. Welcome to a different side of golf. Our first season will include 9 episodes with one released every 9 days. In these episodes, we'll approach what each individual does both on and off the golf course with a business perspective in mind. Our first guest is Denny McCarthy, a PGA Tour professional and the number one ranked putter on Tour for the past two seasons including this current one. Denny and I were teammates at Virginia during his first year, where he entered as one of the most sought after recruits in the country among the likes of Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth. He was subsequently named ACC freshman of the year and an eventual two time all-American. He has won the Junior PGA Championship, the Porter Cup, the Maryland Amateur twice, the Maryland Open three times, and has represented the United States at the Junior Ryder Cup, the World Amateur Team Championship, the Walker Cup. He has also competed in seven US Amateurs, and has qualified for two U.S. Opens. Before turning pro, Denny was ranked as one of the top 50 amateurs in the world. He is currently ranked 72nd in the FedEx Cup standings(as of 8/1/2020) and has notched a few top-ten finishes. We spoke two weeks ago while he was in Ohio at Muirfield, in between the Workday Charity Open and the Memorial. Most recently, he's been mentioned in headlines as one of the first Tour players to test positive for Covid-19 at the Travelers Championship. We touch on that briefly, talk about his transition to Tour life, how he's surrounded himself with the right team to help cultivate his personal brand, and how golf has helped him create opportunities for others. Denny also shares an incredible story about his first round with Tiger Woods at their home club in Florida right in the beginning quarantine. I hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

Jakovac told us about Morikawa's key attributes and shared several others stories, including what it was like to be part of the winning 2016 U.S. Ryder Cup contingent at Hazeltine and the time he Monday-qualified for a Korn Ferry Tour event only to have the player he typically caddied for go on to win that week.

This ain’t the Workday Charity Open. PGA Tour pros battled a hellacious Muirfield Village in blustery conditions today. The course proved to be a true challenge, with average scores being over a stroke higher than they were at last week’s Workday Charity Open (1:36). Tony Finau holds the lead after an astonishing first round 66. The flat-stick was hot for Tony today as he gained nearly 4.5 strokes putting. Is this type of performance sustainable through the weekend (3:55)? Tiger Woods was the center of the golf universe today. How are our analysts grading his first round performance at the Memorial (10:50)? We wrap with some players to keep an eye on heading into the weekend, is anyone further down the leaderboard worth a wager to win (9:57)? ————————— 'First Cut' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts.  Follow our hosts on Twitter: @KylePorterCBS, @mark_immelman, @RickRunGood, @therealGFD Check us out on YouTube for video podcasts and exclusive content, visit https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyeer4UbTK9pzZL9_hhCimA/ For more golf coverage from CBS Sports, visit https://www.cbssports.com/golf/ To hear more from the CBS Sports Podcast Network, visit https://www.cbssports.com/podcasts/ Learn more about your ad choices. We finally bring you a guest we have wanted on the show for awhile. Samantha Marks of Golf Channel joins us to explore some topics that only a female journalist, accomplished golfer, and active user of social media can address properly. Her insight will be eye opening for some as she relates how she navigates many aspects of a world that is not always welcoming to some, for no good reason. The former University of Arkansas golfer covers a lot of ground from breaking into media, how she deals with detractors on social media, and how she chooses to pave her own way in life with no apologies. It's a fun conversation. Before Stefan takes off on vacation we take a look back at the Workday Charity Open, banter about the plans to have no fans on the PGA TOUR through the Tour Championship, discuss the prospects of Collin Morikawa, and take a look at the Canadian men surging out on tour. We dig into the ridiculous world of Cameo; who are the golfers taking part, how much they are charging, and just how bad some of the greetings are. In the mail bag we talk island greens on golf courses, the merit of golf course rankings, Covid putting cup preferences, old pros we would have liked to see live, and if we prefer the PGA TOUR with or without fans.
