It is an all-time Victory Monday at the Shotgun Start, where a member of the podcast can truly celebrate a world championship. PJ Clark sat down for this episode after being awake for 36 straight hours, roaming the celebratory streets of New York like a nomad. PJ details his evening around Manhattan and the emotions of watching his Knicks win the championship. Then Brendan and Joseph turn to the golf in Canada, where Bud Cauley got his first PGA Tour win after turning pro some 16 years and many, many health issues prior. The Cauley round and story are given its due on a Tour that is increasingly difficult to win on in 2026. There’s also some great delight in Tosti getting in the mix with what may be the highlight clip of the year so far. They discuss Brooks Koepka’s injury with some concern and melancholy. On early U.S. Open chatter, the three discuss some juicy early weather reports and how the USGA could get into any trouble again at Shinnecock and if the past will have fans approaching the week with some level of bloodlust. Zach Johnson’s “dreams” being realized with a Champions Tour win are also discussed, as well as a medical exemption dilemma, the Curtis Cup, Juli Inskter bursting through the Cochran zone, and much more. He also shares the full story: from the pro shop at Hoylake that turned him away, to a chance encounter at the Belfry that landed him on the European Tour, to writing Tiger Woods' podcast script and nearly breaking his Scotty Cameron. If you're a coach, a fitter, or just someone who wants to actually understand the clubs in your bag — this one's essential listening.

The Content Gods delivered an absolute goldmine of press conference quotes for this Wednesday episode! Andy joins Brendan fresh off of U.S. Open Media Day at Shinnecock Hills and he airs some grievances about all facets of Long Island without PJ present. The two discuss whether Shinnecock is possibly the best golf course in the world and remember the most iconic shots from previous U.S. Opens played in Southampton. After a brief tangent regarding the new programmatic ads inserted into the audio version of the show - there's a first time for everything! - things get back on track with three major LIV stories from Tuesday. First, Jon Rahm has reached an agreement with the DP World Tour to pay all outstanding fines and pay the necessary events to retain membership. Rahm suggested that concessions were made on both sides, but the DPWT is merely forcing him to play one fewer event. Rahm also had some interesting comments regarding his future with LIV Golf, saying "I don't see many ways out," when asked about his contract. While Rahm got existential, Bryson DeChambeau spent the day at the White House alongside Todd Golden, Noah Syndergaard, and TJ Oshie among other "sports stars" as part of a new initiative from President Trump. He also revealed his plans for the future of his YouTube channel, including dubbing his videos into different languages to give the world a reason to watch YouTube! Before the LIV main event, there is a brief Truist Championship preview segment as the PGA Tour returns to Quail Hollow after last year's major championship delay. Rory McIlroy is back after another Masters win, Xander Schauffele looks to re-insert himself into the major conversation, and this Gambling Podcast looks to stay hot on picks! The two run through the rest of the Schedule for the Week, including an alternate event featuring Brooks Koepka, the LPGA's stop in New Jersey, and a Tiger Woods-less Insperity Invitational. It is then SHOWTIME for this episode, as Brendan does a dramatic reading of today's Scott O'Neil press conference at LIV Virginia. Welcome back!  In my last post, we examined how LIV Golf is unlikely to survive after the Saudi Public Investment Fund ends its financial support soon.  Will the PGA Tour choose to punish the LIV Golf stars who left in 2022 and 2023?  Or, should the PGA Tour take the high road and find a reasonable way to bring back the LIV golfers for the benefit of professional golf fans?  It’s time for ol’ SwampSwami to present a few possible outcomes should LIV Golf fold its operations following its final 2026 event in late August.   Let’s start with my least favorite idea and conclude with my preferred solution. First idea – The PGA Tour tells all LIV golfers that they are not welcome back.  Ever. My Mom would have called this one, “Cutting off your nose to spite your face”.  It’s simply not going to happen. I understand the angst.  Many pro golfers and fans are still hot about LIV’s top names accepting $100 million or more from a country (Saudi Arabia) which has a poor history on human rights issues. The seed money and current operating capital provided to LIV Golf, indeed, originated from the Saudi Public Investment Fund. However, a total ban on LIV Golfers would be a terrible business idea for the PGA Tour.  Golf fans want to see the best players competing on the course every week. If you still can’t get over it, perhaps celebrate the fact that Saudi investors have lost more than $5 billion on LIV Golf over the past five years. Second idea – The PGA Tour tells LIV golfers to sit out for at least one full year.  They would then be permitted to start over.  That involves earning a PGA Tour spot at the annual Qualifying school or playing in the Korn Ferry (developmental) Tour in 2027 in an attempt to earn a PGA Tour card for 2028. This would likely send the majority of LIV Golf players to play in the DP World (European) tour next season.  The prize money for that tour is much lower, and the players’ travel costs are significant. From the DP World Tour’s viewpoint, adding a number of LIV golfers would boost interest in their tour.  Perhaps the DP World Tour might add events at a few popular LIV Golf destinations such as Adelaide, Australia and in South Africa. Another factor to consider is that an across-the-board ban by the PGA Tour for at least one year may cause some LIV golfers to sue the PGA Tour. It is important to understand that PGA Tour golfers are not employees of the PGA Tour.  They are considered contract labor.  PGA Tour golfers are not guaranteed any prize money when they tee-up at traditional full-field golf tournaments.  They earn money only after making the 36-hole cut by placing in the upper half of the field. LIV Golfers could argue the contract labor position in court should the PGA Tour deny their right to compete for one or more years. Third idea – Utilize the same method which recently allowed Brooks Koepka to return to the PGA Tour this year Five-time major championship winner Brooks Koepka had one year left on his LIV Golf contract in 2026.  He quietly negotiated his way out of the final year of his LIV Golf contract following the 2025 season. Brooks Koepka then visited with the PGA Tour and was able to cut a deal to return this year in 2026.  Koepka had to agree to certain conditions: He must pay a $5 million donation to charity. Koepka is not eligible to participate in the new PGA Player Equity Program. He is not eligible to receive any money from the season-ending FedEx Cup Bonus Pool. Upon rejoining the PGA Tour, Brooks Koepka has received several tournament sponsor’s invitations to participate in full-field PGA events this spring.  Those tournament title sponsors should be permitted to add players (including other former LIV golfers) whose presence boosts local and national interest in their PGA Tour event. The “Koepka Plan” could be applied to the other returning LIV Golf stars beginning in 2027.  A sliding scale could be used to determine the amount of each player’s charitable donation based on the size of that player’s LIV Golf signing bonus. This idea seems plausible to me.  However… The PGA Tour is unhappy that other top LIV golfers failed to accept this type of “olive branch” offer made earlier in 2026.  Revenge may sound like fun to some, but most pro golf fans just want to see the best players on the course every week. The PGA Tour is a business.  Listening to golf fans who want to see the top players back in competition should be the Tour’s foremost priority. It is also Customer Service 101.  The customer isn’t always right, but the customer is ALWAYS the customer! Fourth and my preferred idea – Listen to the golf fans and let’s roll again in 2027! Anyone who has watched the four golf major championships over the past few years can see how much golf fans enjoyed watching top LIV golfers like Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm competing in those events.  The final twosome of DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy in the 2025 Masters made for some great final round drama.  It’s time for all parties to come together soon and make men’s golf stronger than before.   A personal analogy may be in order.   Perhaps you (like me) have been fortunate enough to have been hired by an employer, stayed for a number of years, left for another company, and then rehired by your original employer to fill an open position.     We had our reasons for leaving.  Earning a good reputation during your first time working for that original employer laid the groundwork for your possible return. Of course, most of us did not receive a hefty signing bonus from any employer.  Pro golfers who left the PGA Tour to join LIV Golf received some rather large signing bonuses.  Whether the amount was $1 million or $300 million, it was a personal business decision which involved risks to be weighed by each player. Importantly, the amount of the LIV Golf signing bonus received by a golfer should be none of the PGA Tour’s business. The PGA Tour’s primary concern – today – should be in determining how much value their enterprise would gain by adding the top LIV golfers to some of their golf tournaments beginning next season. Let’s get to work and create a win/win/win deal for the fans, the PGA Tour, and LIV Golf! *The SwampSwamiSports.com favored proposal covers only the upcoming 2026-2027 PGA golf season Step 1 – Allow each regular field (100 or more players) PGA Tour event to have the option of inviting up to ten former LIV golfers to participate in their local event. This would be in addition to the normal number of PGA Tour players scheduled to appear that week.  No PGA player would lose a spot in the field.  Former LIV golfers would not be eligible to participate in any of the PGA Tour’s “no cut” reduced-field events or The Player’s Championship.  All former LIV golfers (regardless of the number of FedEx points they earned during the regular season) would be ineligible to participate in the 2027 FedEx Cup series of year-ending events. Step 2 – Any PGA tournament earnings by a former LIV golfer in the 2026-2027 season will be split as follows – 1/3 to the golfer, 1/3 dedicated to the PGA Tour Players’ Retirement Fund, and 1/3 going to the local tournament’s primary charity or charities. The golfer would be financially “punished” by being allowed to keep just 1/3 of his weekly earnings.  Having another 1/3 going directly into long-time PGA Tour players’ retirement accounts is intended to honor PGA golfers who didn’t bolt for LIV Golf.  The final 1/3 going to the local tour stop’s charity will help make a positive impact in that community.  It’s also a smart public relations move. Step 3 – If any former LIV Golf player should earn enough FedEx points during the 2026-2027 season to qualify for a Tour Card in 2028, the player should be welcomed back onto the PGA Tour. Let’s say that the Zurich Classic team event in New Orleans invites LIV Golf’s Bryson DeChambeau and Jon Rahm to play as a team next spring.  If they should win the golf tournament, those two players may earn enough FedEx points to receive their PGA Tour cards for 2028. LIV Golfers must earn their way back onto the regular PGA Tour – by their performance! Step 4 – If any former LIV golfer earns enough FedEx points to qualify for a spot on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2028, the player is welcomed to join that tour. A former LIV golfer may be able to place high enough during limited 2027 PGA Tour events may qualify to play on the Korn Ferry (developmental) Tour in 2028.  The player would spend their next season trying to win events on that tour in an effort to regain their PGA Tour card. Step 5 – All LIV Golfers will be permanently ineligible to participate in the PGA Player Equity Program. This relatively new long-term incentive bonus plan was designed to incentivize PGA Tour members who stayed with the Tour instead of pursuing an offer from LIV Golf.  It is only fair that the LIV Golfers should be permanently excluded from that bonus pool. In summary: My program would give PGA Tour tournament title sponsors the right to invite up to ten LIV golfers to play in their events to boost public interest without eliminating any PGA Tour players’ spots in the field.  Those tournaments may also decide not to invite any LIV Golfers if they so choose. The LIV golfers must perform at a very high level in 2027 in order to have any chance of securing a PGA Tour card beginning in 2028. PGA Tour players have little to be concerned about except for some added competition.  LIV Golf players would be at a serious disadvantage, because they are only eligible to play in a limited number of events.  However, any LIV golfer collecting enough FedEx points during next season to qualify for the PGA Tour or the Korn Ferry Tour would have earned a playing card based on performance. The PGA Tour and its television partners also win. There will be increased interest in traditional full-field tour stops which have traditionally struggled to attract to top PGA Tour names.  It’s good for business. Most importantly, golf fans win big!  Local PGA tournament fields will include more top names in their fields beginning in 2027. It’s time to get over the feuding and sniping. Fans simply want to see the best players in the world competing every week.  LIV Golf’s expected demise could result in a much improved PGA Tour very soon. Gary Williams opens with a wide-ranging look at the Ryder Cup captaincy decision, reacting to Jim Furyk's return and the criticism surrounding it. He frames Furyk as a “piñata” for fans and media while defending the broader system the United States has built since 2014, arguing that context, road losses, roster construction, and generational transitions matter more than simple results. Gary also touches on Nelly Korda's win, the evolving PGA TOUR schedule, and growing concerns around LIV Golf's stability and its impact on players and competition rhythms. Brendon de Jonge, co-host of The Wagyu Filet Show, joins Gary to break down the Furyk appointment, calling it a safe but potentially uninspiring choice while acknowledging Furyk's professionalism and experience. They debate whether the U.S. should be leaning into a younger generation of leadership and how much blame should be placed on past captaincy decisions versus structural challenges like course setup and team composition.Brendon de Jonge also shares insights from the Zurich Classic of New Orleans, highlighting the team format's growing appeal and discussing the implications of Matt and Alex Fitzpatrick's win. The conversation expands into PGA TOUR policy, questioning whether non-members should receive full access to Signature Events and what that means for competitive balance and fairness across the membership. The discussion shifts to current form across the game, with Gary and Brendon de Jonge evaluating players like Keegan Bradley, Justin Thomas, Brooks Koepka, Rory McIlroy, and Scottie Scheffler. They analyze who needs to find momentum ahead of the PGA Championship and whether Scheffler is on the verge of another dominant run, emphasizing how consistency and preparation separate contenders from the field as the season intensifies. Finally, Gary and Brendon de Jonge dig into the reported LIV Golf postponement and what it signals about the league's future. They explore the competitive gaps it creates for players, the uncertainty around scheduling and funding, and how it could influence decisions for top players weighing their long-term paths in professional golf.5 Clubs airs on Golf Channel and SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio (Channel 92).0:00 Jim Furyk Returns as Ryder Cup Captain13:50 Brendon de Jonge 43:40 Status of LIV Golf FOLLOW 5 Clubs: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/5clubsgolf/X: https://x.com/5ClubsGolf Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/5ClubsGolf/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@5clubsgolf

SwampSwami.com - Sports Commentary and more!

Even the most stubborn owners of a failing business eventually must face the facts that their business may never become profitable. LIV Golf is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF).  The oil-rich nation’s investment conglomerate is worth more than $1 trillion.  It holds a variety of assets which are generally expected to deliver a reasonable rate of return to the fund. To date, LIV Golf has run through an estimated $5 billion of Saudi PIF funds during its first four years of operation. The sports media (chasing rumor after rumor hoping for bad news) pounced on a story this week that the Saudi PIF may be ending their support for LIV Golf soon. How soon?  No one knows. That hasn’t stopped the anti-LIV Golf crowd from generating headlines about a looming closure of the upstart league. LIV Golf president Scott O’Neill emerged Thursday prior to the opening round of the tour’s event in Mexico City to say that the league is fully funded through the August, 2026 season ending events. He was asked, “What about next year”?  No comment. At some point, every business needs to be able to stand on its own.  The Saudi group was initially excited and proud to begin a worldwide professional golf operation.  It hoped to rival the PGA Tour and the DP World (European) tours. Losing $1 billion per year only amounts to about 1% of the Saudi PIF assets. Make no question about it, the Saudis’ investment in LIV Golf has become a giant money pit with no end in sight. How did we get here? By early 2022, the Saudi PIF hired golf legend Greg Norman to put together a new worldwide golf league. Norman dangled plenty of bonus signing money (well over $100 million in several cases) to lure some of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars to jump leagues that spring. At least $1 billion would eventually be paid just to have these players under contract for three to four years (depending on each player’s negotiated deal).  American golf stars such as Phil Mickelson, Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, and Bryson DeChambeau all made the leap to LIV Golf. The new LIV Golf League initially offered tournament purses of $25 million (now up to $30 million) to a field of just 54 (or so) players.  That was nearly three times the $8 million average tournament purse being offered by the US-based PGA Tour. Each LIV event (prior to 2026 when the league went to a 72-hole format) initially featured a 54-hole competition. Reminder – LIV is the number 54 in Roman numerals.  In addition to individual titles, LIV golfers also participate on a season-long four-man team.  Every tournament pays an extra $5 million to the three teams posting the lowest total scores for the week. It appeared that money seemed to be no object to the Saudi PIF.  Each year has seen insufficient revenues to cover massive losses. LIV Golf plays more than half of its events outside of the United States.  That presents a big problem in trying to attract a US television audience. A tournament in Singapore, Australia, or South Africa will be played in a time zone which makes “live” TV coverage in the US quite unattractive to home viewers.  Who is going to watch golf on television during the overnight hours? LIV Golf’s actual on-air television coverage itself (which I find more interesting to watch than most PGA Tour events) has been hampered by poor distribution. The year 2025 brought the current television deal with FOX Sports.  However, finding LIV Golf on television from day-to-day on one of several different FOX outlets is akin to playing “Whack-a-Mole” daily. It’s quite confusing and almost as if FOX is intentionally trying to bury the golf coverage.  See for yourself at this link. The Saudi Public Investment Fund spent at least $1 billion just for signing bonuses for the players.  LIV Golf has then lost about $1 billion per year on bloated tournament purses and oversized operating expenses.  Television audiences have been shrinking (primarily due to lousy TV placement) instead of growing. The trends are not the friends of LIV Golf. “Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results” That saying is often attributed to genius Albert Einstein.  It definitely applies to the Saudi owners of LIV Golf as Season #5 nears the halfway point. The media pounced on information which surfaced this week that LIV Golf is likely “toast” – perhaps even before the end of this season in late August. The usual suspects (including LIV Golf’s biggest “hater” – Brandel Chamblee at Golf Channel) have reacted with “I told you so!” glee. Not me. I fully admit to have been rooting for LIV Golf to find its niche in professional golf. Remember the ABA? My youthful self in the 1970’s was a big supporter of the American Basketball Association. I still shoot hoops with my ABA red, white, and blue basketball! The ABA’s innovative three-point shot helped to make its basketball games rather unique and more fun.  This creative new league also placed an emphasis on higher-scoring contests in contrast to the NBA’s more deliberate playing style of the 1970’s. The ABA placed franchises into growing markets such as Denver, San Antonio, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, and Louisville.  Yes, there were numerous franchise failures in the ABA.  The league was woefully undercapitalized and lost millions trying to play in weak markets. ABA franchises outbid the NBA for the services of future Hall-of-Fame stars like Julius (Dr. J.) Erving, Moses Malone, George Gervin, Rick Barry, Dan Issel, and David Thompson. The league also attracted a younger audience to games and on television to watch the league’s higher scoring and entertaining contests. In 1976, four ABA teams (Denver, San Antonio, Indianapolis and the Virginia Squires-turned New York/New Jersey Nets) agreed to join the NBA.  Salt Lake City was able to lure the NBA’s Jazz away from New Orleans to Utah a few years later in 1979. Some basketball fans laughed at the ABA’s basketball.  Many traditionalists made fun of the ABA’s 3-point line. Years later, it was the NBA which added four key ABA franchises and the league’s 3-point shot. Yes, the ABA helped to shape today’s NBA. Likewise, PGA Tour golfers have benefited from the presence of LIV Golf LIV Golf started poaching golfers away from the PGA Tour in 2022.  Almost immediately, the PGA Tour began raising its tournament purses to keep other remaining golf stars from contemplating their own exit to LIV. LIV Golf’s limited its fields to 54 (or so) golfers with “no-cut” events.  That insured every player would receive a minimum paycheck for their weekly efforts. By contrast, most PGA Tour events begin with a field of 144 to 156 golfers.  Half of the field is cut after the opening 36 holes. Those sent home early leave without earning a dime for their troubles that week. Taking its cue from LIV golf’s star-laden but smaller tournament fields, the PGA Tour began creating several “no cut” tournaments a few years ago featuring only the highest ranked 70 golfers.  That type of event may not have occurred without LIV Golf’s competitive presence. Some media critics have laughed at LIV Golf’s 4-man team competitions within each tournament. Perhaps the media should take note that the TGL (Tomorrow’s Golf League) recently concluded its second year of indoor golf competitions.  This popular weekly made-for-television golf series features four-man teams comprised of top PGA stars! Let’s see.  Higher purses, smaller “no cut” fields, and team competitions.  None of those were on the scene for PGA players prior to LIV Golf’s entry in 2022. Truth – LIV Golf has been a flop in the US Competing in the United States against the established PGA Tour has been tougher than expected for LIV Golf.  Few top US golf courses have been willing to commit to months of course preparation and the financial obligations required to host a top-level men’s golf tournament. Several LIV Golf events in America have come and gone since 2022.  Cities like Houston, Dallas, Miami, Tulsa, and Chicago have hosted a LIV Golf tournament in previous years but not in 2026. This year’s remaining LIV Golf schedule brings the tour to several US markets.  LIV plays in northern Virginia/DC metro (May 7-10), New Orleans (June 25-28), New Jersey/NYC metro (August 6-9), and Indianapolis (August 20-23).  The LIV team competition season finale is in Detroit (August 27-30). Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry and his economic development team have invested $5 million of state taxpayer dollars to pay LIV Golf to play its June 25-28 event at the newly renovated Bayou Oaks at City Park (formerly City Park South).  An additional $2 million is being spent right now to prepare this venerable public golf course for the upcoming LIV Golf tournament. Pinocchio would chuckle knowing that the Pelican State officials claim that the LIV Golf New Orleans event is going to inject $40 million into the local economy during late June. As a former resident of the New Orleans area, locals know why major hotels are readily available and cheaper during the summertime.  It is exceptionally hot and steamy in the Crescent City by late June.  The conditions may be miserable for both golf fans and the players. Regardless, the State of Louisiana is now holding its collective breath that LIV Golf won’t shut down operations prior to playing its inaugural New Orleans tournament in two months. Around the world, LIV Golf has been more successful Sold-out LIV Golf tournaments in Australia and South Africa this spring brought LIV’s group of top golf stars to golf-starved countries.  Fans openly welcomed the LIV Golf stars and seemed to enjoy the league’s party-like atmosphere. LIV Golf’s 2026 schedule has taken the golfers to Saudi Arabia (of course), Hong Kong, Singapore, and, this week, Mexico.  Upcoming overseas events are scheduled for South Korea (May 28-31), Spain (June 4-7), and the United Kingdom (July 23-26). The costs of taking the LIV Golf’s traveling show via jet to tournaments around the globe is staggering.  PGA Tour events in the US are usually scheduled within a one-day driving distance.  That reduces transportation costs for the television broadcast trucks, crews and players. The clock is ticking for LIV Golf Let’s give LIV Golf a mulligan for its first two years of operation.  Since then, the losses have continued to be unsustainable.  By any reasonable measure, LIV Golf should cut its losses and end operations by the end of the 2026 season in late August. Perhaps the Saudi Public Investment Fund might forge a partnership with the DP World Tour to bring men’s golf to worldwide locations where LIV Golf has performed well. The top names in LIV Golf have been paid multi-million dollar signing bonuses.  They’ll be fine.  The remaining talented golfers at LIV Golf will find another home to play professionally soon. Just like basketball’s ABA did for the stalwart NBA, LIV Golf has made a lasting impact upon professional golf and, especially, the PGA Tour. Welcome to yet another Victory Monday episode of The Shotgun Start! Andy and Brendan went LIVE on YouTube on Monday morning to recap the Valspar, LIV South Africa, and more. Andy and PJ are rolling into the second weekend of the NCAA Tournament, so a brief Basketball Minute kicks off the show. Brendan shares some tales from his experience at the first round in Philadelphia, where he learned that UConn might be the new Duke for kids growing up in the 2020s. Andy continues to tout the Big 10's supremacy and that even extends to golf! Northwestern's own Matt Fitzpatrick avenged his loss at The Players by winning the Valspar Championship, his first PGA Tour win since 2023. Despite Brendan's uncertainty that we need an event the week after The Players going up against the NCAA Tournament, the Valspar delivered with a tight finish on Sunday. The two discuss Fitzy's win and continued ascendance back into the game's top tier, something that was improbable to judge at this time last year. They also give Fitzpatrick credit for calling out the slow play of his playing partner, fellow Big 10 legend Adrien Dumont de Chassart. Strong showings from Brandt Snedeker, Marco Penge, Brooks Koepka, and Jordan Smith are mentioned before Andy and Brendan give the Valspar some credit for being a different test than what is presented week-to-week on the PGA Tour. The biggest win in golf came at LIV South Africa as Bryson DeChambeau secured his second-straight playoff victory. He defeated Jon Rahm in the individual playoff and also led the Crushers to the team title, taking down the Southern Guards in their home event. Bryson was quite emotional throughout the week and Andy highlights that DeChambeau finds himself in his best form entering Augusta in recent memory. South Africa seemed like it was a massive success as a host for a LIV event, but Brendan wonders if these sellouts in Australia and South Africa are making the league truly viable. Jon Rahm, the loser of this week's playoff, has dug in even further in his fight with the DP World Tour and his 2027 Ryder Cup status is now really in jeopardy. Elsewhere in golf, LPGA's Founders Cup provided some great visuals and possible safety hazards, an American won on the DP World Tour, and the Champions Tour found a new level of social media innovation. Things wrap up with a brief bit of news on more PGA Tour scheduling possibilities and a further delay of the rollback by the USGA.

Andy and Brendan! went LIVE on YouTube for a Victory Monday morning recording following a Ballfrogs win over Jupiter Links late Sunday night. Andy is buzzing now that the Frogs have locked up the number one seed in the TGL playoffs despite the best efforts of "Tom Sim" and Max Homa. This turned out to be a loaded weekend of pro golf with national opens across the globe and a Cognizant Classic that absolutely delivered. Shane Lowry found the water twice in "The Bear Trap," blowing a four-shot lead on the final three holes at PGA National. The Salty Boy, Nico Echavarria, came up with a birdie on the 17th to take the lead and eventually secure his third PGA Tour win. Andy and Brendan discuss Lowry's collapse and debate whether he'll find himself in another position to win on the PGA Tour any time soon. Lowry, who hasn't won a solo event in the U.S. since 2015, had a win probability of over 96% standing on the 16th tee before being the first player to hit it in the water on Sunday. Brendan gives him props for speaking to the media immediately after his round and sharing that he wanted to win in front of his daughter for the first time. Following an epic finish - and despite a poor setup at PGA National - Andy runs through the Tour's schedule and puts the Cognizant in a tier above many Signature Events and all three playoff venues this year. PJ shares an update on the yearlong "Brooks Koepka vs. Mules" contest after Koepka's first top ten finish of the season. Is the money deficit already too big for the Mules to make up? Andy and Brendan then run through results from the rest of the week, hitting on the South African Open, New Zealand Open, and the Argentina Open, where winners and top finishers earned a spot at Royal Birkdale later this year. In news, the USGA had a massive Saturday news dump in which they awarded the 2045(!!!) U.S. Open to Inverness Club in Toledo, Ohio. Who knows if this podcast will exist in 19 years, but these two midwesterners are excited for the national championship to return to America's heartland. Things wrap up with some TGL chatter recapping the first overtime match of 2026 and plenty of Jason Kelce exposure on the Worldwide Leader in Sports. Smylie and Charlie recap a wild Sunday at PGA National where the Bear Trap once again decided the Cognizant Classic. After Shane Lowry appeared in total control — birdieing 9, eagling 10, and building a three-shot lead — everything unraveled at the 16th tee. The guys break down the wind setup, hole locations, and the pivotal swings that flipped the tournament in minutes. They dive into Nico's composure, his no-bogey weekend, and what this win says about his resilience after a rocky rookie season. Plus: Shane Lowry's growing 54-hole storyline, Brooks Koepka's encouraging signs with the putter, Max Homa's progress, the state of PGA National on the schedule, Bay Hill projections, and behind-the-scenes stories from a full week in South Florida.Additionally, Gil Hanse joins the show! How can the in-person experience level up? Is there a risk of players leaving after the second season wraps up? The two then move on to the Schedule for the Week and first discuss the Cognizant Classic in The Palm Beaches. The Florida Swing begins this week and Andy has his list of 5 Guys to Monitor, including a player returning on a major medical and Brooks Koepka once again playing his hometown event. Everybody makes a One-and-Done pick despite a weak field after many top players withdrew from the event following the Genesis Invitational.
