For the first time in six weeks, this is NOT a Victory Monday episode of The Shotgun Start. Andy and Brendan are both deflated after losses by the Bears and Browns but at least a great weekend of professional golf made up for it! Despite zero wins, a Football Minute kicks off the show with plenty of ranting and raving about the College Football Playoff and its selection process. To tie this back to golf, Andy ponders which golfer would "pull a Notre Dame" by taking their ball and going home after not getting an exemption into an event. After that detour, the Australian Open is first up on the weekend recap. The two focus on how to make this event the fourth men's major instead of the PGA and wonder whether a new date on the schedule would convince more top players to make the trip down under. Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen picked up his biggest win to date and an invite to next year's Masters. Cam Smith and Adam Scott also popped on the leaderboard in their home country to secure some OWGR points and in Scott's case, a spot in the 2026 Open. The Nordic takeover continued at the Nedbank where Kristoffer Reitan withstood some heat from Dan Bradbury to shore up his own trip to Augusta in April. Finally, Andy and Brendan begrudgingly discuss the Hero World Challenge. Wyndham Clark was unhappy with the conditions at this "hit-and-giggle" event and Tiger joined his Jup Links teammate Kevin Kisner in the booth to reminisce about Kisner's infamous bunker shot at the SoFi Dome. After another sleepy tournament week, Andy and Brendan are left wondering why this event even exists. After a brief bit of news, PJ is called on to unpack a bizarre Skechers World Champions Cup and his trip to Madison Square Garden to watch the Utah Jazz's great young core. What a weekend......The Australian Open was sensational, and we are going to spend the next hour reliving it.Mark is in Queensland with the family, Nick and Dan at Titleist and FootJoy HQ in Melbourne, so the show sounds a tad different today. Onto the AO. Nick and Mark loved it. The Australian Open is back, and it was an event that everyone involved, and golf fans broadly, should be very proud of. Mark says last years Open was a 2/10 rating, this years was an 8/10, and he has a Top 5 later in the show of things that could get it to a 10/10 in his view. The big one being the date, it is a challenging date with the South African event and the Bahamas event on at the weekend attracting a lot of big name players. That said, Mark says on TV those two looked second-rate compared to The Australian Open. Changing the date is a no-brainer says Mark.Nick notes that each of the 4 days had completely different weather which made the event challenging but exciting, and he loved the Sunday pin placements...he also said that he was 'sweating bullets' on friday when Rory was sailing a little close to the cutline.But that finish. In fact the 17th and 18th holes. Extraordinary. We analyse what happened, how Rasmus and Cam played the holes. The pressure was huge and Rasmus came out on top obviously.Nick talks about some of the older players who played, and he loved it. And some players who missed the cut who really shouldn't have. How about Min Woo Lee's Open, a tough sunday according ti Nick, and Mark says can you imagine if Adam Scott's putting was more consistent what might happen.Then, Mark makes a big call about the BMW Australian PGA Tournament saying it needs to be moved out of Queensland. He explains why.The BMW Touch of Class today is Richard Forsyth and his team at Royal Melbourne for the incredible job they did getting the course into the shape it was in, it looked magnificent and considering how it was only a few months ago, Mark says that they are well deserving of the Touch of Class award. Speaking of BMW, Nick bumped into his good mate Wolfgang, the former boss of BMW Australia, now in Germany, and a huge supporter of golf in Australia.The Top 5 for Betr....Marks Top 5 things to get The Australian Open to the next level, including a red hot crack at the commentary....which is a little awkward given Nick is one of the commentators.And for Hostplus, each week we look at what is a plus for golf - today, the running of the event by Golf Australia in how they handled a monster crowd over the week, the number of kids roaming around Royal Melbourne, and Mark adds a final one involving Nick O'Hern.PING Globals, well there was plenty of golf on aside from the Australian Open, and Nick runs us through all the results that matter. I need you to take a deep breath. Exhale. And I need you to mentally delete the last five YouTube videos you watched about "supinating the wrist" or "hitting Position 6."Because today, we are going to stop the craziness.(Music fades to a subtle background rhythm)I see it every day on the lesson tee. A student walks up, and they look exhausted before they've even hit a ball. Their brain is spinning. They're thinking about ten different positions. "Daniel, is my elbow at 45 degrees?" "Daniel, am I shallowing the shaft enough?" "Daniel, what about P4?"Stop. Just stop.Golf is a hard game, yes. But it is not as complicated as the industry wants you to believe. We have turned a stick-and-ball game into advanced calculus, and it is killing your scores.Today, we are going back to basics. Not "boring" basics—essential basics. I want you to forget the 10-step diagrams and focus on the 4 Pillars of a Great Golf Swing.If you nail these four things, you can play this game forever, and you can play it well.Pillar 1: Proper SetupPillar Number One. This is non-negotiable. Proper Setup.You wouldn't build a house on a swamp, right? So why are you trying to hit a golf ball with your feet touching and your back hunched over like you're reading a text message?The setup is the only part of the swing you have 100% control over. The ball isn't moving. No one is tackling you.Grip: Get your hands on the club comfortably so the face is square.Alignment: Aim where you want to go.Posture: Get athletic. Bend from the hips, not the waist.If your setup is bad, your swing becomes a recovery mission the second you take the club back. But if your setup is solid, you've done 50% of the work before the club even moves. That's free money!Pillar 2: Logical BackswingNotice I didn't say "Perfect Backswing." I didn't say "Adam Scott's Backswing." I said a Logical Backswing.What is the logic? The logic is simply to get the club up and around your body so you have room to hit the ball with force. That's it!People get obsessed with "hitting positions." They freeze-frame their video and say, "Oh no, my clubface is 2 degrees shut." Who cares?! Does your backswing put you in a position to deliver the club to the ball?Did you turn your shoulders?Did you shift your weight?Is the club behind you?Great. That's logical. You are loaded. You are ready to fire. Stop trying to paint a Picasso in the air and just load the catapult.Pillar 3: Solid ContactThis is the Holy Grail. Solid Contact.The golf ball does not know what your swing looks like. It doesn't know if you're wearing the latest gear. It only knows one thing: Impact.You can have the ugliest swing in the world—look at Jim Furyk or Matthew Wolff—but if you hit the back of the ball first, flush on the face, the ball goes straight and far.We spend so much time worrying about how we look getting to the ball that we forget the job is to hit the ball.Are you hitting the center of the face?Are you brushing the grass after the ball?If the answer is yes, you are a golfer. I don't care if your left arm is bent. I don't care if you lift your heel. If the contact is solid, the swing works. Period.Pillar 4: A Natural Follow-ThroughAnd finally, the pillar that holds it all together: A Natural Follow-Through.I see so many amateurs who hit the ball and then... stop. They chop at it. They flinch. Or they try to force themselves into this perfect PGA Tour finish where their back is twisted like a pretzel and they're in pain.Your follow-through is a reaction to what happened before it. It's the braking system. If you swung with speed (which we want), your body has to rotate through to slow the club down safely.Let the momentum pull you around.Finish balanced on that lead leg.Let the club wrap around you.If you are "steering" the club, you have no follow-through. If you are "swinging" the club, the follow-through happens naturally. It's the signature on the check you just wrote.Setup. Backswing. Contact. Follow-through.That is the cycle. That is the rhythm.When you go to the range this week, I want you to strip away the rest.Check your Setup.Make a Logical turn.Focus on Solid Contact.Allow a Natural finish.If you do a bad shot, don't ask, "Was my wrist bowed?" Ask, "Did I have a bad setup? Or did I just miss the contact?"Keep it simple. Golf is meant to be played, not analyzed to death.Get out of your head, get into your body, and trust these four pillars.That's it for this week. ANOTHER GREAT INTERVIEW THIS WEEK, REFINER!!No 'Severance' production person is safe! Vinny P. is tracking them down and locking them into interview slots for the show. This week we talked to a legendary figure in the world of 'Severance' props and set dec. We've got "Penko the Sculptor"!!Penko's last name, Platikinov, is a bit of a mouthful. Rather than say it incorrectly, the folks around the 'Severance' set have gone to referring to this incredibly talented man as "Penko the Sculptor".  This is also a succint description of what he does around here. If it's a thing that's a little off...like say the Irv-head melon, or the statue of Kier in the town square...Penko probably had something to do with it. Penko is the 'anti-CGI' guy. Much of what he does I have attributed to CGI throughout my re-watch of the show. Nope! Those amazing visual tricks...like a dead seal carcass along the path, or a big statue in the town square...are all practical effects. Penko is that good. He's creating things you would believe were CGI if you didn't know any better. You're gonna love this guy! Hit 'play' Refiner!
