Ket tells Kim about the newly released, already classic, Hokum, starring Adam Scott looking quite unlike melty dough. The girls now know to expect a couple things from Damien McCarthy. One, there will be an indeterminate amount of chains. Two, there will be bunnies and they will be creepy. The girls were also very happy to get a visit from another Jerry that they'd love to set up with demon Jerry for a play date. Stay tuned for part 2 where we find out who the true evil jerk of the story is.Writer/Director: Damien McCarthySupport the girls on PATREON for some sweet BONE CON (bonus content) at: www.patreon.com/kimandketstayalivemaybeCheck out Ket & Producer Arik's new show MAJOR SLAYAGE: KET & ARIK REWATCH BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER on YouTube! https://www.youtube.com/@majorslayagepod and follow on instagram: instagram.com/majorslayagepod KKSAM Facebook Discussion Group!!"Sammies Stay Alive... Join hosts Gaius and Jackson on 'Back To The Blockbuster' as they delve into the world of Hokum, a supernatural horror film written and directed by Damian McCarthy and starring Adam Scott, Peter Coonan, and David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh and Michael Patric, Will O'Connell and Brendan Conroy. This episode sees the co-hosts diving into the mysteries and hauntings of The Bilberry Woods Hotel as Adam Scott's Ohm Bauman travels to Ireland to lay the ashes of his parents to rest and finds himself learning about a local witch name the Cailleach, a local witch who kidnaps children and leads them in chains on a tour through the underworld, where they are clawed by the souls of who live there. How is this connected to a bartender at the hotel that goes missing? Is the hotel haunted? And, what will Ohm discover that his past traumas will collide with the horror that's on display at The Bilberry Woods Hotel. It's a mystery worthy of exploring, much like this episode which looks into what is one of the best horror films of the year.
The new horror movie Backrooms is about some of the creepiest places imaginable: the nondescript, beige-carpeted rooms that populate countless office spaces and discount furniture warehouses. The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor as the manager of a pirate-themed furniture store, who, as he discusses with his therapist (Renate Reinsve), discovers a secret labyrinth of backrooms – each with a strange and unsettling design. Directed by Kane Parsons, based on his “creepypasta”-inspired web series, the movie doesn't have a plot so much as a deeply unnerving sense of place. If you're looking for more moody horror, check out these episodes:In ‘Obsession,' love hurts. Ireland. A haunted inn. A witch with a grudge. And one very unlucky writer who should have known better. This week, we are heading across the pond for another Damian McCarthy masterpiece, Hokum — the latest from the Irish filmmaker who gave us Caveat and Oddity and has apparently made it his personal mission to make sure we never sleep again. Adam Scott stars as Ohm Bauman, an author who travels to a remote Irish inn to scatter his parents' ashes and ends up with way more than he bargained for. Because of course he does. We're breaking down the atmosphere, the folklore, the scares — and yes, we have thoughts. McCarthy's slow-burn style is either your love language or your nightmare (or both), and we are absolutely here for it.Director: Damian McCarthyTawny: 3.9/5Miriam: 4.8/5Send us Fan MailSupport the showAll things TCHF: https://linktr.ee/twochicksandahorrorflickSupport the Show:Join our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/twochicksandahorrorflickTCHF shop: https://twochicks.threadless.com/designs/podcast-cover-art/Connect with Us:Join our horror community on Discord: https://discord.gg/8WBByTQPFXWatch us on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@twochicksandahorrorflickFollow us on Social:Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/twochicksandahorrorflickFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/twochicksandahorrorflickTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@twochicksandahorrorflickTwitter: https://twitter.com/twochicksHF Send us your reviews, thoughts, and recommendations: twochicksandahorrorflick@gmail.com or visit our site https://www.twochicksandahorrorflick.com/

Adam Scott stars in a new witch film from the director of Oddity, a film we really dig. Irish film director Damian McCarthy had only made two features before 2026's Hokum but has already proven to have a distinctive style and tone. McCarthy also wrote the screenplay which tells the story of an American writer (Adam Scott) visiting an isolated Irish Inn with a spooky past. Shot on location in County Cork, Ireland, the film's supporting mostly Irish cast includes Peter Coonan, David Wilmot, Florence Ordesh, Michael Patric, Will O'Connell, Brendan Conroy, and Austin Aumelio. Dan and Vicky discuss the film, out in theatres now, and lots of recently seen films like Deep Water, Normal, The Sheep Detectives, Over Your Dead Body, and Lorne, the documentary about Lorne Michaels. If scary bunnies and folk horror are your thing, you're probably already familiar with Damian McCarthy's work — but in case you aren't, his newest project, Hokum (2026), is about to put him on your radar. Starring Emmy-nominated TV actor Adam Scott, this horror movie about an author contemplating bleak endings at a remote Irish inn is about to introduce its indie darling director to a whole new American audience. But after Oddity nabbed five knives across the board when we covered it last August, can his follow-up film survive the hype? Join us on our latest episode as we dig into this flick's symbolism and realize Mommy Issues May is still alive and well here at Spooky Tuesday. Movie Mike counts down his Top 10 Best and Worst Movies of the decade as we are well over halfway into 2026. He breaks down the scenes that have defined modern cinema, these top movie quotes and the most gut wrenching movie so far of the decade that still chokes him up to this day. On the flip side, Mike doesn’t hold back on the Worst Movies of the year, calling out superhero misfires and breaking down what went wrong with some of Hollywood’s weakest offerings of the decade and some of all-time. In the Movie Review, Mike talks about the new supernatural horror film Hokum starring Adam Scott. He plays a novelist who travels to a remote hotel to scatter his parents' ashes and is consumed by tales of a witch haunting the honeymoon suite. Mike shares whether he thinks it’s really the scariest movie of the year, the single frame that may have scarred him for life and why it feels like a modern day “Shining”. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Super Troopers 3 which leads him to ask the question “what year are we living in???”. This time, the troopers try to bring down a new drug ring, while Farva's wildly over-the-top engagement to Thorny's sister spirals into chaos. Mike talks about the best 'Broken Lizard' movies, his top 5 Super Troopers Quotes and his most viral clip with the cast of the movie. New Episodes Every Monday! HOKUM (2026) — Full Spoiler Breakdown & Ending Explained SPOILER WARNING — this one is fully spoiled. Cupcake and WillDaBeast go deep on Hokum, Damien McCarthy's 2026 supernatural Irish folklore horror starring Adam Scott, and nothing is off limits. What starts as a haunted hotel story quietly becomes something much more devastating: a film about guilt, accidental violence, and whether the ghosts we carry are out to destroy us or set us free. We unpack the full mythology of the witch in the honeymoon suite, trace every character's haunting back to its source, and wrestle with whether McCarthy earned his ending or showed too much too soon. Mike also gets personal in a way that genuinely stopped us in our tracks. We also break down the full Damien McCarthy filmography fingerprint....every crossbow, chalk circle, chained man, and creepy rabbit across Caveat, Oddity, and Hokum...and make the case that these three films deserve to be packaged and sold as an Irish folklore trilogy. Starring Severance and Parks and Rec actor Adam Scott, the film is already off to a strong box office start. We chatted with Damian about his experience collaborating with Adam and what he brought to the role of Ohm, the influence of Damian's Irish Catholic background on his writing, and the grueling experience of filming in a burning hot desert. Synopsis Ohm is a writer struggling to let go of his past. In an effort to move on, he travels to Ireland to spread his parents’ ashes. When he checks into the very hotel his mom and dad stayed at on their honeymoon, Ohm learns about the witch said to haunt the building. Some shady business is afoot. But, having some shady business to attend to himself he goes to his bedroom with a rope and a dream. Fiona, an employee at the hotel stops him from committing the ultimate L, and is later discovered to be missing. Ohm sets out to find the woman who saved his life and hopefully return the favor. Review of Hokum Hokum is directed by Damian McCarthy, who also directed both Caveat and Oddity, which are both great movies. Hokum follows suit with the same feel and spooky imagery. If I could describe Damian McCarthy's style in one word, I would call it unsettling. While I think I like the premise of Caveat and Oddity better than Hokum, the themes were better in this film. At hokum's core there is a message about self-forgiveness and allowing yourself to heal what is broken within. The main character Ohm, played by Adam Scott, who you may recognize from Krampus (or like Parks and Rec and Severance), is a man who did something terrible and never let himself forget it. He became the villain in his own story and lets that show in the conversations and interactions he has with others. But just like the story he is writing, maybe our character will learn to do something selfless. It’s beautiful, shocking, and unexpected. I will say that I was hoping for a little more out of some plot lines. The witch feels like a subplot that barely makes it into the movie, but maybe I’m just being nitpicky. Score 9/10

In the satisfying new horror movie Hokum, Adam Scott plays a misanthropic writer who takes his parents' ashes to the lonely Irish inn where they honeymooned many years ago. There's just a few things dampening his stay: surly staff, a local eccentric and a witch haunting the hotel. Hokum was directed by Damian McCarthy, known for making similarly spooky films like Caveat and Oddity. Dave laid out a sharp argument using the championship futures board, noting that the series price is far tighter than the gap between the Sixers at 40 to 1 and the Knicks at 9 to 1 to win the title would suggest, implying the market is undervaluing Philadelphia at the series level. He also cited the regular-season split, with Philly winning both road games in New York and losing both home games, an ideal setup for a team walking into MSG as a road underdog at plus 220. In Game 1 he likes the Sixers plus 7.5 and the over on the 212.5 total. Munaf came in even hotter, revealing he had grabbed futures tickets on the Sixers to come out of the East at 25 to 1 when they were trailing Boston 3-1, and his case rests heavily on Paul George shooting 55 percent from three-point range in the first round and rookie VJ Edgecombe, who posted 23 points in Game 7 against the Celtics and is playing nothing like a first-year player. Player props discussed include Kelly Oubre Jr. over his points line, Deuce McBride over 1.5 three-pointers at minus 137, and Karl-Anthony Towns at plus 128 to connect on two or more threes. Out west, San Antonio opens as a 13.5-point home favorite against Minnesota and both hosts are fading that number aggressively. Dave noted the Spurs were only 4.5-point home favorites in their most recent regular-season meeting and the historical trend on second-round big favorites against the spread is brutal, 9 and 25 covering just 26 percent of the time since 2016. His player prop of the night is De'Aaron Fox over six assists at minus 144, a near-lock based on Fox's season average and his consistency throughout the Portland series. Anthony Edwards is questionable for Game 1 and both hosts lean toward him sitting out, with Munaf projecting a Wednesday return. The MLB side features Dave's Grand Salami over on a wind-friendly slate, a live Cardinals underdog look against Milwaukee, the Braves rolling despite Ronald Acuna Jr. heading to the IL, and a detailed breakdown of why Shane Baz and the Baltimore bullpen are in serious trouble against the New York Yankees tonight. Dave's featured best bet is Yankees team total over 4.5 runs, backed by a brutal Yankees-versus-Baz history including seven home runs in 48 combined at-bats. Munaf closes with his best bet of the week, Tyrese Maxey over 25.5 points at minus 107 on DraftKings, citing five 30-plus-point games in Maxey's last six matchups against the Knicks. Damian McCarthy's 2024 horror film, “Oddity,” sent a chill down our spines, so we were eager to check out his latest: this time about a hotel whose honeymoon suite is said to be haunted by a witch. Tune in to hear our thoughts on “Hokum” — from the visuals and settings that scared us most, to the character arc of Adam Scott's Ohm, and some key insights from the Q&A we attended with the director and star.
Editor - Brian Philip Davis Hokum editor Brian Philip Davis teams up once more with director Damian McCarthy. Prior to this film the two joined forces to craft McCarthy's supernatural thriller, Oddity. This time out, they double down on the dread and jack up the jump scares to keep audiences on the edge of, and often a few feet above, their seats. Written and directed by Damian McCarthy, Hokum stars Adam Scott as novelist Ohm Bauman. When Bauman retreats to a remote inn to scatter his parents' ashes, he's consumed by tales of a witch that haunts the honeymoon suite. Soon, disturbing visions and a shocking disappearance force him to confront dark corners of his past. BRIAN PHILIP DAVIS Brian Philip Davis is known for his work in genre cinema, with films showcased at major festivals including Sundance, SXSW, Tribeca, TIFF, FrightFest, and Fantastic Fest. He has a strong ability to work across multiple genres—from horror to comedy—bringing a confident balance of tone that allows each project to feel cohesive, engaging, and distinctive. In addition to Damian McCarthy's Hokum, Brian's upcoming working also includes The Incomer, a folk comedy (starring Domhnall Gleeson), written and directed by Louis Paxton and winner of the Sundance Film Festival NEXT Innovator Award 2026. Additional titles include Oddity, Bad Day for the Cut, Boys from County Hell, The Occupant, Here Before, and The Devil's Doorway. He is a member of Irish Screen Editors, British Film Editors, and BAFTA, and is represented by UTA. For one final time, Andy joins Brendan from The Shed(!) for this Sunday recording as they look back on the formative years of this podcast. It's often said that the more things change, the more they stay the same, so it's nice that Cameron Young's dominant 2026 season remains in progress despite Andy leaving The Shed behind. Mr. 1,000 blitzed the field at the inaugural Cadillac Championship, defeating World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler by six in the end. This event was practically over on Friday afternoon and Cameron secured his third PGA Tour victory despite calling a penalty on himself for his ball moving at address on a day with Preferred Lies. Brendan found the whole week at Trump Doral sleepy and wonders if there's anything the PGA Tour can do to make events between majors truly stand out. The two discuss which PGA Tour events matter on their own and nearly all occur before the Masters. Andy gives major props to Cameron Young for his continued evolution into a top three player in the world and there's a debate whether the foursome of Young, Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Matt Fitzpatrick have separated themselves from the rest of the world. In other Doral news, Adam Scott looks likely to qualify for his 100th straight major, Justin Rose's McLaren irons didn't make it out of the garage, and Alex Fitzpatrick secured a top ten finish without his brother! Brendan and Andy then run through results from the rest of the world, including a back-to-back runaway win for Nelly Korda, a famous Michael winning on the DP World Tour, and a SECOND major championship win this year for now-Ryder Cup Vice Captain Stewart Cink. Lastly, Brendan wraps up this show with some... enthusiasm for a Game 7 performance from James Harden! Visit BDraddy.com and use promo code SGS30 for 30% off your 2026 Presidents Cup gear! It's s super-stylish Saturday here at Breakfast All Day. We took Friday off to honor the May Day work stoppage, but we're back to kick off your weekend. Here's what we reviewed: THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2. Twenty years later, everyone's back at Runway magazine, but Runway magazine is a shell of its former self. This is a sad movie about the state of modern journalism, but the clothes are still fun. Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt star. This one's gonna be huge. In theaters. THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA (2006). Of course we had to go back and review the original film, which was a massive, crowd-pleasing hit that remains infinitely meme-able. It's the definition of the breezy, escapist rom-com. The sequel is very different. HOKUM. Adam Scott goes to Ireland and stays in a charming, countryside inn. Weird things start happening. Writer-director Damian McCarthy's film is a trip, and Scott is great in it. In theaters. MILE END KICKS. We both loved this romantic comedy, which takes place in the cool Montreal neighborhood of Mile End. Barbie Ferreira stars as a young music critic who moves to the city in the summer of 2011 to cover its indie rock scene. From writer-director Chandler Levack. In theaters. This week's Empire Podcast is the kind of episode that could leave other film podcasts in its wake. Mainly because there's a lot of discussion of ships, boats, the high seas and the like. First off, our guests this week are Callum Turner and George Mackay, the British actors who star in Mark Jenkin's latest movie, the fisherman-themed Rose Of Nevada, which is out now, and in a cracking chat with Alex Godfrey, they talk about how they first met, working with the unique Jenkin, and more. Either side of that, Chris Hewitt returns to the host chair after two weeks away, some of which was spent on a cruise ship, and he scrapes the barnacles off long enough to welcome Helen O'Hara (or is it?) and James Dyer into the podbooth to discuss the best ship-related scenes, have a look at the week's movie news, try to convince James of the merits of the Jackass movies, and review the likes of The Devil Wears Prada 2, Rose Of Nevada (with help from an unexpected quarter), Greenland 2: Migration, and new Adam Scott horror, Hokum. You best start believing in Empire Podcasts, Ms Swann... YER IN ONE! Enjoy.
This week we host one of the most exciting horror filmmakers of the decade – Damian McCarthy, the twisted mind behind Caveat, Oddity and now, Hokum. It's the biggest film in Damian's career so far, with his biggest star, Adam Scott playing Ohm, a deeply flawed American writer who travels to Ireland, to spread his parent's ashes. Whilst staying in a creaky old hotel, he stumbled across dark human conspiracy and witchy haunting. Damian is so much nicer than Ohm, and this is a cheery conversation about the cheeriest scary film I've seen in a while!
